Behold, the silliness we entertain our tired brains with.
Ozzyman reviews Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. NSFW. So NSFW.
Blow the stealth horn!!! So excited for this game. Once BLOOD HEIR is safely in the production team’s hands, Valhalla, here I come. Ozzyman also narrates all sorts of things like bad driving and kitten videos.
Dragon Age Origin: the Music Video Version

Sorry (not sorry).

Same here. I see all these fun games and I’ll occasionally play with a friend but when I’m on my own my nose is always stuck in a book.

Oh, good. I need some comic relief. We go back on full lockdown Tuesday, which makes me crazy, because it SHOULD have been done the moment the R# passed 1 again in September, but no, they had to wait until we jumped from 400 new cases/day to 9000. That’s 3 zeros there.
On the plus side, we FINALLY bought a couch. We moved in at the end of August, and have been living couchless since. It seemed like every time we made a step forward, something went wrong (right up to the point where we were ordering the couch, and both credit cards expire at the end of this month, so the store wouldn’t take them). It’ll be in the local warehouse in 2-3 weeks, at which point we REALLY hope they are allowed to deliver.
And our elevator, which has been broken for the last three weeks, is finally fixed. Again, JUST in time for lockdown. But if we are going back to ordering groceries, then I am very happy for the delivery dudes.
Justine says
Wow! Stay healthy, the cases in California are climbing but not that fast.
Siobhan says
Austria did. so well until they reopened the borders on June 15th. By July 1, the number of daily cases was going up again, and even when it started getting very bad (R>1) by the start of September, they did NOTHING. I wish universal masking was the last option on the policy table instead of the first. It doesn’t stop the virus spreading — it theoretically reduces the rate of transmission, but if you can breath through a mask, a virus can get through — but it makes the politicians look good while they avoid the one thing that HAS been proven to stop it — complete lockdown and quarantine. A week ago they tried instituting a half-assed solution. Close restaurants and schools for those 12 and older, and institute an evening curfew. I said at the time that it was the worst of both worlds. It would do damage to the economy AND fail to prevent the spread of the virus. A week later, even Wien, which keeps hundreds of emergency beds ready in the event of a bad flu year, is closing hospital doors and getting ready to set those beds up — and the doctors here don’t think there will be enough at this rate of infection.
To be clear: wear your mask. Everyone is safer for every person who wears one. I am not against masking as much as I am the misconceptions around it and the POLICY of universal masking obscuring the reality of it. “Safer” does not equal “safe”. And I’ve seen people on Facebook blaming non-mask wearers for spreading COVID and even an author I enjoy reading including the line in his newsletter that “it’s become clear that as long as you’re masked, you can do anything you want.” No! If everyone wears surgical masks and otherwise behaves as always, the rate of spread is supposedly slowed, but no model sees it STOPPED (seeing how quickly it’s spreading here, I’m inclined to think the false feeling of safety while masked outweighs the benefit gained from wearing one. It certainly makes the policy decision to lock down less likely).
I’m frustrated. Austria has undone all the good it did. between March and July. And now they’re doing the right thing again, but WAY too late.
Bill from nj says
The point of masking was not to stop Covid,it along w distancing, limiting capacity in bars and restaurants, limiting gatherings is how you keep the curve from overwhelming hospitals and not then requiring a lockdown. It also requires testing and contact tracing and quarantine. Wearing a mask doesn’t mean you can do everything, not wearing one on the other hand increases the rate of infection, in the US the places exploding refused to mask, they actually banned masks in some places, they let restaurants and bars run at full capacity and they are in trouble, now they are talking mask mandates bc hospitals are so bad they are telling medical professionals who have tested positive to keep working…and the idiots who live there are making death threats and refusing to wear masks. To be honest I hope they see how horrible Covid is, they see the pain and anguish it causes and there is no herd immunity and the vaccine won’t allow any kind of normal until summer 2021. In Europe was the same story, they opened up and people acted like it was over and the rest is history.
Hard part is a lot of people were careful, where I live people have been really good, wearing masks ,distancing, capacity in stores, etc, but all it takes is enough idiots and we may end up in broad based lockdowns. US has 180k new cases and 1500 deaths recently a day…..
Siobhan says
You understand the point of masking, but the people making the policy don’t. Any more than the people blaming non-mask wearers for their illness, or the gent that wrote “with a mask you can do whatever you want.” Because that’s how the people making policy here understood it or at least they pretended to. But again, I see no evidence that masking alone slows the spread, given that with only masking (and people here wearing their masks), the numbers jumped from 400/day to 9000/day positives in a week. Better testing accounts for some of that (they instituted greater access to tests), but we’ve been masking and only masking for months.
Part of the problem is simply human nature. There were a bunch of studies done in the 90’s on universal masking in hospitals, and they found that doctors and nurses who wore masks stopped taking other precautions (my pre-med roommate did a paper on it at the time). Because I was aware of this tendency, I noticed about ten years ago that when I wore gloves to cut chicken I was less careful about cross-contamination and I stopped wearing gloves. I saw overnight here from the day before masking was instituted to the day it was instituted — people in line at the grocery store stopped standing on the meter-apart lines (to make distancing easy) and stood right against each other the way they did before. Yes, masks + distance + hygiene slow the spread significantly. But masks alone don’t.
But mostly, it’s that universal masking is made the policy, most people obey, some are idiots, but when nothing else is done, it slows nothing. Which is why I wish it was the last policy option instead of the first, because when it’s the first, they don’t do more. Again, wear masks AND keep distance AND be careful of hygiene. Sure, if everyone does this, the spread will slow significantly. But since you can’t count on people doing all three, more needs to be imposed from the top down. And that’s the problem. And why I wish masking was the last option on the policy table. After closed borders, after lockdown. Because when it’s the first policy option, governments quit there.
Kat says
The problem with the full lockdown is the impact on the economy. It’s all a balancing act.
In South Africa, for example, we went into full lockdown early on and got a jump on the virus but it was extremely harmful. It’s doubtful it will happen again simply because the people most affected are those who can’t afford to lose their income. The protests and crime would skyrocket.

Thank you, Ilona Andrews, for the post.
Titan jumped yard fence in dark at 3am and went “streaking naked as a jay bird ”( meaning he left his breakaway collar with his ID and GPS tracker hung on barbed wire pasture fence) after a predator (coyote or fox coyote hybrid from tracks in quicksand mud). Thus I had to wait on him to finish tracking and to bring his canine rear end home. GPS works when collar goes with Dog. Sigh.
Thus I appreciated the hilarious post and the belly laugh.
Now to go order another breakaway collar from Amazon. Sigh. It a Labrador thing (the tracking) and a Rhodesian ridgeback thing (the protection). Pups. Vet says he will mature etc.

Might I suggest that a GPS tracker under the skin might be a good idea for your puppy?

I’m a bit too old for these games, but I did my little “happy dance” three times yesterday at the cancer center. Last radiation, blood test showed the new meds to maintain potassium levels are working, no more tests for that until at least mid-December now. Final chemo treatment on Wednesday, but no happy dance until the blood tests they did on Friday came back. So I did my happy dance for both treatment places and then for the registration ladies who have been so nice to me, and we all laughed and I’m HOME AND FREE until December 16 when scans will tell if it all worked or not. Until proven otherwise, I’m going with “it all worked”. The doctor at radiation does scans every time the machine runs, and he says it shrank, so I’m going with it.
Which leads me to say that I am now looking forward again and hope I’ll be around to read many more of your books. Your books, your blogs, and the promise of books to come have kept me on task to stay alive for it all. I can’t pre-order, but when the time comes, I’ll just buy Blood Heir and I look forward to it greatly. I also don’t buy green bananas, so don’t feel bad about no ordering ahead here. LOL! I can now stay home and enjoy using the medical marijuana without fear of having to go out in public too high to function. Hey, I’m ready to enjoy something here!
You enjoy your games, because you have earned the break. It’s great to hear that it’s done and sent to publishers and ready to roll out. But it’s even better to know that you are done working on it and have time to enjoy something.

He also did a handful of Purina commercials, as well as a Cat Diary and a Dog Diary (searching zeFrank followed by either Purina or Cat Diary, etc, will bring you straight to them). It’s like he knows my cats — all three of them are fully aware that humans have TWO hands. And if we try petting & scritching with only ONE hand, they’ll beeline right for the non-cat-petting-hand. I won’t say “idle” hand, because often that hand is holding a book or texting with a friend. You know. Completely unimportant things compared to petting cats.

Your blogs show me so many cool things.
Ohh , I remember when you posted a blog about the first Guardians of the galaxy. Just love Rocket. He would be an asset to Kate Daniels , or Hugh.

Can somebody who plays or played the Dragon Age game explain the chick’s dancing to me? I don’t play games, but it seems a bit out of place. Did it call magic? Just curious. They did a really good job editing it with the song though. ????
Kristy says
I played Dragon Age Origins, and that dancing or anything like it was no where in the game. Leliana is dancing to Like A Prayer because she’s part of a religious organization called the chantry and she’s a former bard.
I’ve no idea how they managed to make the video, whether through mods or exporting the models into a video editor, but I agree with you that it was beautifully edited. I needed that laugh.
Breann says
Thanks! I was guessing that the dancing wasn’t actually part of the game, but I’ve heard or stranger things in games (like picking up a hooker in 1 of the Grand Theft Auto games). ????

I’m playing Valhalla right now! Seriously, it’s amazing (and brutal), I hope you love it!

I love Ozzyman after my sister-in-law had us watching him narrate animals and hooked me in. My youngest brother is the youtuber though and he got us laughing our derrieres off with the Jalal brothers prank video’s (and we shouldn’t because they’re really wrong) and I also enjoyed the equally miscreant Trollstation pranksters. Clearly my family has deviant minds! Most recently he had us watching Who’s the Daddy (Wall of Comedy) which is not bad either.

I sooo want do get back into gaming (Elder Scrolls Online). But until my twins learn to sleep (1.5 years…still waiting) I have no chance to play Veteran Raids with my guild. Since I play one of two healers in a 12 person raid I really can`t just say sorry guys, my son/daughter needs some Momma Time: dear boss, please refrain from killing anyone for 5 minutes, I`ll be back. One healer AFK in end boss fight = wipe.

I still raided in WoW when my daughter was a baby, she refused to sleep unless i held her – so I played healer one-handedly, while my left hand was stuck under a sleeping baby. Thank the gods for addons and druid HoT spells. I can still hear my raidleader scream on discord “jump from fire!” at the same time my daughter woke up with a snort, made a huge fart and kicked my mouse to the floor..
