Things to do today:
AMA at r/books. We’ll start answering at 11:00 am, but you can ask questions now.
Do laundry.
Fold laundry.
Figure out how many days for the first leg of the trip.
Pack for West Coast and San Diego Comicon: printed T-shirts and capris and shorts.
Schedule an appointment to do my nails, because they are a disaster and I will be signing, so people will be looking at my hands.
Buy more markers while I’m out.
Activate the travel iPads I bought for us, because the laptop is bloody heavy.
Load the iPads with all of the software we need.
Find time to write somehow.
Identify the knitting pattern and make sure I have the proper yarn and needles to work with on the plane.
Identify which audio books I can listen too on the plane.
Ugh. Uuuuuugh.

I pre-ordered through Book Depository and they let me know last week that the publisher had authorised the release of the book (the same thing happened with the last one as well) I actually got the paperback before I could download the ebook (which with this one won’t happen until late on the 25th). I think it must just be a thing with that publisher as I have never received any other books from Book Depository before the release date.

I’d preordered Wildfire from a store and was told (because I asked) that it had a hard release date of 7-25. Imagine my glee when someone called me this morning and said my special order (Wildfire) had come in!! (I will buy a second copy on Tuesday for the library.)
It’s even better than I hoped!!

I got a copy yesterday from my local B&N. It came in on Friday’s shipment of books. Naturally I ran right over there, picked it up and am having a blissful weekend. I’ll get the hardcover copy and Kindle download on Tuesday but for right now the mass market paperback copy will do me just fine! Mmmmm, good. If you have a B&N nearby, give them a call and find a sympathetic sales associate who will go dig in the shipping box for you. It will definitely be worth the effort for you.

Weird random question… do they have rules about what kind of needles you can have on the plane? I have metal ones I like to work with, but I never take my knitting when I travel because I’m afraid they’ll take my needles and wreck my project. I just assumed they’d view them as a weapon. Can I keep them in my carry-on?
I am also literally on the edge of my seat staring at the clock waiting for Wildfire, but I don’t have that yet so knitting.

When people ask me what I miss about America, I say english bookstores. I have to wait for Barnes and Noble to release the ebook.
