Audible didn’t give me a refund for the pirated audio of Small Magics.
Audible will refund the credits, but not the credit card purchases. We are working on this from our end. We can’t make any promises, because Audible is a large company, but we are doing our best.
This is why it was kind of an emergency yesterday. This crap victimizes the readers. Not only they buy pirated and subpar books, but they lose their money. And on our end everyone has to drop what they are doing and scramble to get the fraudulent listing pulled down and contact legal departments, etc, etc. Huge thanks to our agency for jumping in there and fixing things.
When requesting a refund, please point to the previous blog post as proof of being defrauded.
We didn’t get Small Magics audio.
We will be releasing our own. Absolutely. Even if it’s just to plug a hole so no more pirated copies will be uploaded. We have our audio Kate and Curran, so we should be able to get this done for you. We will be including Curran POV, Jim’s POV and the Grocery lists.

In a bit of good news, we will be reopening the merch store in time for the release. We found some international vendors, so some of the merchandise will be available outside of US with reasonable shipping, because it will be created locally. We are currently testing distribution to UK and should have distribution to EU and AUS.
We will have Wilmington related items and specifically some of Keelan’s sayings. “The Consort, ever merciful.”
The release is almost here. We have some fun stuff planned. We hope this doesn’t overshadow the glory of Magic Clams. All those shells shimmering softly in the sun…

I can’t say I’m counting the minutes till Magic Claims is released, but that’s only because your countdown timer saves me the bother.
There are full Ilona Andrews audiobooks up on YouTube. These people aren’t making money directly, though they might through the magic of YouTube algorithms, but for sure the authors are not getting the money they deserve from these. I won’t post links here so as to not encourage anyone to listen to these, but they are easy to find.
The agency periodically takes them down but it’s like a game of Wack-a-mole 😞

I really, really hope there is a Magic Clams t-shirt in the next merchandise release. That would be delightful. I have been profoundly entertained in some of the recent comment threads when people have been going off on just terrible(fantastic) mollusk related puns.
Just a FYI for anyone else who purchased on Audible with a CC. I went into a chat under Amazon and told them I wanted the book returned and quoted the blog for the reason and they returned it for me. I have a credit going back into my account today.

Idea/question: can you ‘update’ anaudio version the same way a kindle book updates?
As a concept moving forward, you could upload a ‘crap’ audio version with a disclaimer stating intent to update with a professional recording. This would ‘fill’ the audio slot, preventing pirating. Using a mechanical narrator to reduce cost and hold the space, you would insert a disclaimer about how it was temporary, waiting for the preferred narrator to be available.
I bet there are better solutions (like Amazon/Audible being competent/upstanding/secure). I don’t expect a reply. Just wanted to throw a random idea out.
This is not a feasible way further for multiple reasons, but thank you very much for having House Andrews’ best interests at heart 🙂
I just want to say thank you. Thank you for always being there for us, your readers. For stepping in to help people who got cheated out of their money. For working hard nkt only on writing wonderful books but also on behind the scenes stuff like site renovation and shop reopening. I am not sure I can put into words how much I appreciate all that. I paid for Small Magics at Audible using a credit card, not with a credit and was able to get a refund when I stated the request was made due to piracy. I had to call and speak with a representative but they did provide a full refund for my purchase.

I bought the “Audio That Shall Not Be Named” and did get my credit back; I just placed a call as well as the return did not give me the option as to why I returned it.
In my phone call I started with, “I want to tell you why I returned by audiobook – it’s a pirated copy”…
Customer Service Agent: Would that be Small Magics?
Me: …yes…
CSA: We’ve been numerous calls about that audio and we are working very hard to get this resolved and off our website.
Me: When you say “numerous”, how many?
CSA: Hundreds so far.
Me: Well the Authors have a very strong fan base *snickers*
CSA: So we have discovered over the past few days.

Hi Jing, yes, there’s some good news there, there will be an option for Canadian shipment!
Another option for refunds is to file a fraud dispute through your credit card company. It should be quick to do and with the information from the author confirming the fraud Visa/Mastercard should approve the charge back.
