Kirkus is one of the most prestigious review sites. We’ve had column reviews at Kirkus through Booksmugglers, but never an actual Kirkus review. Until now.

Classification: RomancePrivate eye Nevada Baylor (Burn for Me, 2014) takes another case putting her in the path of Connor Rogan, and it soon becomes clear they’ve taken on some powerful enemies; Nevada may have to truly embrace her magic in order to save her family and fight for her happiness with the prickly mage. When a client asks Nevada to look into the murder of his wife, she discovers a coverup that sprawls into at least two magical Houses and seems connected to a recent event that nearly destroyed the city of Houston. Working with the powerful Rogan to get to the bottom of both mysteries leads them into danger as well as into the highest echelons of magical society, but things get really interesting when combat-grade soldiers attack her family’s office and home. Nevada has never been sure of Rogan’s feelings, but things between them heat up when he takes a protective stance toward her—and she is both touched and resentful. Nevada has spent years trying to keep her magic—the ability to tell when people are lying—under the radar, but when she chooses to save a child with her power, her secret gets out, complicating her life even more. Tracking down at least one layer of adversaries fulfills her promise to her client but leads to even more questions as to who the true mastermind is and sets up the third and final title in the series. Andrews (which is a pen name for a husband-and-wife writing team) is a prolific and popular author, and her magical worldbuilding is brilliant and compelling. Her imaginative use of magical personalities and traits is spellbinding, and Nevada, Rogan, and the other characters jump off the page. Add breathtaking romance and sexual tension plus a complex, layered plot, and you have a book that’s hard to put down.An enthralling paranormal romance from a master of the genre.
The link to the review for posterity. 😛
Meanwhile, we’re working feverishly on finishing Wildfire edits which are due tomorrow. Tomorrow. Oy.
Where is a time traveling machine when you need it?!? Can’t it be May 30th now???? Looking forward to reading Nevada & Mad Rogan’s next adventure – congrats on the awesome review!!
Ditto
Wowwww!! That is awesome and I’m drooling over this book even more than I already was! Congrats! That’s so cool!
CONGRATS!
Well deserved praise…… like everyone else is beginning to realize what the book devouring horde has known all along! Kudos!
?
Exactly!
Awesome
Congratulations! That is an amazing review! You guys deserve it and I can’t wait to read this book. Good luck with the edits!
I think it’s official; you can now demand to be addressed as “Master”. Congratulations!
Whoop whoop! Congrats on thd great review, but why can’t it be May already…
Wow! That’s quite a (well deserved) review!
All hail the White Hot Authorlords! (see what I did there? 😛 )
Couldn’t have been said any better.
?
Congratulations and well deserved
Sooo cool! Totally fan-girling right now…..Bring on May!
Taps e-reader. Sigh, not here yet.
Though semi-fan CF sister will get to read hard copy OFS soon. And next week Patty Briggs and Anne Bishop come out. Will devour, then lend to CF sister.
I can’t wait for Briggs and Bishop. Two books to devour on one day. I already took the day off.
You absolutely lucky duck! That is good planning ahead.
Did the same. Assuming the pre-ordered dead tree versions arrive on that day. (Has to be hard copies, since CF is unable to utilize my e-reader.)
I am trying to figure out how to manage three books in one day because Seanan McGuire’s new book in the InCryptid series is out that day too. The other hard question is which do I read first?
I probably won’t be lucky enough to get the hard copies in on Monday, so whichever ebook arrives in my Kindle after midnight wins. And yes, even though I’m taking Tuesday off, I’ll probably still stay up ridiculously late to read as much of the first book as I can.
Of course, who could sleep with a shiny new book sitting in the Kindle? New books are better at 3 am.
Ain’t that the truth?!
Not tried any Anne Bishop – oh look, here’s my kindle. You know what’s coming next.
Sigh. No wonder I never have any spare money at the end of the month.
I could not get into her other books but ” The Others” series had me hooked from the first book. What a difficult choice to make next Tuesday!
Testify!
Awesome and I’m sure well deserved. Now I feel even more tortured waiting for this book to come out. Sigh…
Amazing review–congratulations. Looking forward to your books…with all the madness going on, sometimes an escape into another realm is needed 🙂
Congratulations! Looks like they got it right…You’re the greatest!
Shameless drooling here. Congrats on that review. I hope it helps you feel better. We’re all just about standing on our heads for both these books. ARRGGHH!!!
Well done you guys!!!
“An enthralling paranormal romance from a master of the genre.” The Book Devouring Hoard will agree! The Authorlords are definitely masters of the genre. Glad that it is now March – it means May is that much closer.
Lol my thoughts too.
Can’t wait for May!
Very well said.
Woohoo that’s awesome! Of course we all knew that you guys are brilliant 😉 Roll on May!
Harumph, I knew this before any review; i.e., characters jumping off the page. That is what makes IA’s books sooooo fab! Doesn’t hurt to see it validated. June is soooo far away. I think I will plan a special staycation in celebration, wine, lots of chocolate, phone off the hook, turn WiFi off, lock the door, put the dog in the kennel and throw all the cats outside. This book is going to be so good!
Congratulations on the review. It is wonderful when a professional says what I have recognized as truth for years. I am s-o-o-o looking forward to the continuation of this story.
HUZZAH!
Congratulations; that’s awesome. 😀
That is a fantastic review. Congrats! Sounds like we’re in for another awesome ride. Is it May yet, because I’d really like to read the book too!!
So glad Kirkus has finally discovered the wonderfulness that is your work! They have a reputation for snark and hating everything, so getting a starred review is truly a major (but well-deserved!) accolade. Congratulations.
Woot! Congratulations and I can’t wait to buy the book!!
Congratulations on this great review. Like the rest of the BDH I am eagerly awaiting May 30th for my next Nevada and Connor fix. They are correct in saying your characters jump off the page. I feel I know Nevada’s family because they are so well drawn they seem like real people.
Thankyou Kelticat for the reminder that the new Patricia Briggs comes out next week. I’ve never read Anne Bishop’s books but so many of you recommend her that I will hunt them out.
I’ve only read Anne Bishop’s Other series, which is the one that has a book coming out on Tuesday. I haven’t read her other books yet.
Chiiiiiiiiii! So worth it just to see what you have been missing with Anne Bishop’s the Others Series.
Like IA books, her books you never want to put them down once you start reading….. And you will have the complete set of 5 books on March 7 too! And if you can get them, the audio books are highly recommended for this series…. the characters leap off the pages and hit you in the head and will leave you at the edge of your seat from start to finish…… and then some!
Oh- you asked about the second book- its Patricia Briggs book “Silence Fallen” is also out March 7th.
Congratulations! That’s really great news.
Well deserved and earned congratulations. 🙂
Three months… ::sigh:: It would be so nice to have this to read on the plane next week. =) I’ll have to settle for Anne Bishop instead, not that it’s a terrible thing, but I’m really looking forward to seeing what you do with Rogan to humanize him a bit. He was larger than life in Burn For Me, but he has such huge potential as a character. =)
Brilliant and compelling! ?
Oh yeah “master of the genre”……TRUTH!
hurray! congratulations!!
Congratulations! Great praise and I’m sure it’s well deserved. All of your books are extraordinary, amazing and full of suprises!!!
You fully deserve it.
I. Am. Dying for Neva/Rogan snippet……. ?
I’m sooo happy for you, though! ?
Fully deserved!
Ohhh man, I didn’t know Wildfire was third and final in the series. Bummer?!
Brilliant and compelling. From Kirkus. Wow. Just Wow!
Well deserved praise. Congratulations!
I’m very excited to read White Hot on May 30, 2017.
What a wonderful review! If someone wrote something like that about my work, I’d be over the moon! Congrats! Very much looking forward to May and White Hot.
grats!
WOW!! And very deserved!!
Congratulations! We already knew about the master (actually masters) of the genre, but it’s nice to see the review.
So….now all of the BDH have to wait (seriously?!) over two months (gasp) for our Nevada and Rogan fix……..what’s the world coming to? :p
Congratulations, I can’t wait!
Wonderful review so I went to their site and then said I wanted to buy it thru amazon preorder ! Hope that helps to. Good luck with your revison’s and take additional time with the family. Relationships are so key! Cheers!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
WOW
Oh my, in libraryland that review is a gold star and automatic purchase for all branches. Congratulations!
Congratulations!
Well deserved.
Congratchiiiilations?
Y’all definitely deserve the recognition for your fantastic story telling abilities. Love your world building. Love your characters. Congratulations!
A well deserved great review! Can’t wait for the book ?
This is so awesome! What a great review. Congratulations you both really deserve the praise! Can’t wait to read the final two. Thanks for sharing your magical work with us!! xx
Wow. What a fabulous review. Congratulations. You deserve it after all your hard work. So looking forward to my Book Depository delivery in June (always takes a while). Sigh. But your books are always worth the wait!
With all the “Master” labeling happening here, I await some orders. Maybe a whip crack or two. Windows, now! (Grin) shameless is the way to be.
Eager for May!
Woo to the Hoo!! That is one fab review and now I’m even more excited for the book!!
God, I’m so exited for this boon I don’t know how I’ll be able to wait until may! Could you give us some crumbs? Just tiny ones? Pleeeeeease!
Book*
YAY, congratulations! 😀 It’s such a great feeling, seeing or hearing that your favourite authors are rightfully praised ^_^
Congrats! Well-deserved praise.
The only mystery is why it took so long for Kirkus to review you. The outcome was, of course, a given.
Congratulations to you and Gordon. You let light and joy into people’s lives, so it is only justice that that is acknowledged.
How exciting! Congratulations!
Congratulations!!!! Well and truly deserved!!
Eeek! It’s coming!!!
So excited for YOU and validation for all your fans that we have excellent taste and foresight because we found you first! Good luck getting the copy editing finished on time. Really enjoying this series, even if it’s only one book so far!
And because you are crafty and live in Texas (horses) I want to share this info with you and this group from around the world. I went to a quilt show a couple weeks ago and met Cathy Wiggins.
She makes quilts with leather! Her Facebook account is – GypsyWoodLeathers. She does fabulous work. One of her quilts was purchased for posterity by a quilt group for innovation and ingenuity. There is also Lucifer, a black horse dressed with metallic leather, fringe, and blinged out with 6000 rim-set rhinestones. She even has a dragon head that she sculpted the head form for. I was so impressed! And she is a very nice lady who explained why she tried leather and how she works and shared techniques. Sigh, total fan girl moment. A down-to-earth very nice woman.
Oh yes, she said she uses 80/20 leather and a household sewing machine with a leather needle. The leather gauge didn’t mean anything to me but it is light and thin, about like a woven upholstery fabric. A piece about 15×15 was $45 at her booth, so tempted, maybe next year! I just had to share.
“Online Publish Date: February 21, 2017”
I almost fell out of my chair when I read that bit. I’m guessing it doesn’t mean what it looks like it means?
It’s pretty cool to get that sort of recognition for your work. Even if your fans keep telling you the books are awesome, to have the professionals do it as well must be a nice feeling.
I had the same reaction 😀 ! ! !
Me too! I jumped straight on my pre-orders before crying as it’s still May :…(
Great review, kudos on the recognition.
Absolutely wonderful and so well-deserved review.
Woo hoo! Well-deserved!
I am so happy for you!!! Well deserved. 🙂
Enthralling! Compelling! I’d start planning my tattoo using those words! But who gets which word? I guess Ilona could take enthralling and Gordon compelling. Add “NYT Bestseller” to the design. Okay, now the only decision is placement. Center of back? Bicep? Gotta leave room for later rave reviews too. Hmmmmmmm…….
Bravo!!!! Congratulations!!
It’s about time that one of you books was reviewed on Kirkus!
Well done!!
FELICIDADES! That review is a testament to how great your books are 😀
Kirkus!!!! Squeeeeeeeeee!
The review has me so psyched. We’ve got even more of a teaser on what will happen in the second book. I literally can not wait for it!!!!
I think I should take a vacation day on May 31. 😀
I already have that date approved for vacation! Planning ahead this time so I don’t need to wait to read the book.
Congrats! But I think of it as urban fantasy more than paranormal romance.
Congratulations! Long overdue.
Congrats on the review…
But did I read that right, Hidden Legacy is only meant to be a trilogy?
Congrats on the great review!
I wish I had read the book to review it, but alas! I’ll have to wait with everyone else for it to come out.
Thanks for you great writing!
Woot! Congrats! I’m counting the days….
Here’s hoping the Authorities are triumphantly (and exhaustedly) celebrating the completion of Wild Fire stuff.
Thank you for the link to the Kirkus review. Hopefully I shall wait and read the review after the book.
recognition well deserved!
It is a great book and this review is well deserved. Congratulations!
Online Publish Date: February 21, 2017 – Does this means, that it is already available to buy? Where?
Thank you.
Robin
Wonderful review and well deserved!!!
“brilliant and compelling” “spellbinding”. I got goosebumps. Congrats!
What is the “on line publication date”? The review said the “on line publication” date was in February.
That’s the review’s publication date. 🙂
Thanks!
As a public librarian I read Kirkus all the time to order books. They can be very snarky, my fellow librarians and I call it the Kirkus Burn. I am so glad they recognized what we all see and gave such a great review. I have definitely ordered White Hot for the library.
