Any plans for the merch shop reopening at Sanctuary release time? – M in the comments
This is a tentative yes: when the Sanctuary novella is published this summer we will likely be able to celebrate with official merch.
I say tentative, because releases are busy times and House Andrews have to fully recover to be up for all of it. Things are progressing well after the unexpected surgery last week (thank you to everyone for all your well wishes), so we’re optimistic and making arrangements.
To this end: because we’ll need to get the designs commissioned and all our kolovershi in a row, please let me know below what merch you would like – it will be Roman’s release so there will be a focus on his quotes and items, but if there’s anything else from the other books, put it in the comments too.
We may have a poll voting on your suggestions, because you guys always come up with so many hilarious options. “Wanna come back to my place and pet my nechists?” probably kills on Volhv Tinder hehe. A small disclaimer here, however: as much as we love Roman’s Eeyore nature and calling him a “Care Bear in the streets/ Dark priests in the sheets”, some of those classically-known images are copyrighted, so we won’t be able to make merch with them. I’m sure you’ll come up with suitable alternatives.

Look into kintsugi kits! Food-grade ones are pricier, but you’ll be able to drink out of it again.
There are more affordable kits available online if you want to repurpose the mug for decorative use (like for pens or as a planter).

yes! I’m new to the BDH world so I don’t know what merch usually looks like or if it’s feasible but I have wonderful images of a cutesy cartoon version or Roman and his critters in my head. on a T-shirt or a mug or a dishtowel I will take it in any form 😊

It’s very dependent on the local suppliers and their stock- last time I remember everyone in Australia was basically wiped out of mugs, for example. More Merch! YAY! I do have a bit of feedback on the BDH art (as shown in the pic at the top) when it was used on the large white mugs. The print on my mug is already looking like it’s worn off/faded. Not faded/bleached like we have hard water and use harsh dishwasher soap, but faded like it’s worn off/down. Anyway it’s only used it Saturday mornings when I have enough leisure time for several large mugs of tea, so it does seem to be an unusual amount of wear. Thought I’d let you know as a data point for your vendor selection. Happy to send a picture if you like, just let me know.

Thank you for the feedback, I’m sorry to hear the item didn’t satisfy. Depending on design and supplier, items are not always dishwasher safe. I know the merch store issues replacements on faulty goods, but as it’s already been over 10 months, it’s too late.

Mugs I bought on an Alaska cruise all lost their pictures. I am sure it is because I put them in the dishwasher all the time. Magic Clams is not going in the dishwasher

if it’s the BDH one of the cartoon. I use my mug every day and it’s not faded at all, I forget if I got it from Canada/ the USA or a UK store, as I wanted the large mug, not I only hand wash it, no dishwashers, so that might explain the difference?

Putting in request for dish towels (tea towels to some) … I have way more mugs than I can use and very seldom wear t-shirts. Straight bottomed sweat shirts or fleeces would be grand, but the are a higher $ inventory item.

I’m so glad you are feeling better. Gall bladder surgeries are so much.. NOT fun.. BTDT got the T-shirt.. etc. ad nauseum. Now is the walk and walk and get strength back and learn what you can and can’t eat and get better. I do like the broth and sardines idea. My son came in the other morning, after another one of my normal “I’m a retired RN, and I keep weird hours” all nighters, to find me eating sardines on saltines at 0500 and nearly gagged. He doesn’t like them to start with and could *not* fathom how anyone could eat them for breakfast. I pointed out, that after being up all night, this was, after all, dinner! Get well the soonest!
As a chronic insomniac, that’s what I call the 3-6 am meal too!

Re. Issues with fading mugs, if more feedback helps, the last time the merch shop (UK) was open I got two of the large mugs – these have been in the dishwasher since then most days and the mug design is still fine.

I don’t know if I’m in the minority here (also I’m late to the party), but I love shirts and hoodies that look like an intricate design/ drawing to outsiders but have meaning to the respective fans. This would translate into designs less leaning on whole quotes but more on simple drawings with no text or just up to 3 words. Like the outline of the tree that gets transformed through Nav but no catch phrase for example.
BDH designs without text, just the pictograms. Or sth many might appreciate is copying free but known styles and adapting it to BDH-content. Like that classic black shirt with names listed: “Kate, Dina, (insert several main characters here ) and Julie.”
What is also possibly a hit is designing sth to look like a University logo but it’s post-shift Atlanta with the unicorn alley. Or it’s Gertrude hunt. I would go broke. please make me go broke.

I tend to go this way as well – having stuff that is not immediately recognizable so that:
(1) BDH can recognize each other, and/or
(2) so that others ask about the design on the shirt, and I can proselytize (oooh, spell checker had fun with that) about House Andrews books.
My “If the skies could dream, they would dream of dragons” t-shirt has prompted multiple inquiries from strangers.
Along this line of thought, in a nit-picky way, I’d love if the Gertrude Hunt graphic could be tweaked to take out the “Humans must never know”, which makes it clear it’s not a t-shirt for a real b&b. And just have the graphic to prompt inquiry/conversation…
