The new website is up and running. Thank you for bearing with us during this difficult time. We were shut down for whole 6 hours. We would like to thank Aimee and Jayana of Anchored Design, who were amazing to work with.
HIGHLIGHTS
If you follow EMERALD BLAZE preorder link from the main page, you can now read the first two chapters.
BLOOD HEIR, codenamed Ryder, now has its own dedicated page. You can find it by clicking the button in the second menu. The posts will still appear on the main blog, but now they will also be listed on that page. They are organized from earliest to latest, but the latest post is highlighted at the top of the page, so you don’t have to hunt for it. If you are reading Ryder on that page, the links at the bottom of the post lead to other Ryder chapters, so your reading can be almost seamless.
Innkeeper website has gone away. Innkeeper will now have a dedicated page like Ryder, to make things easier to find. Innkeeper Series page has an area that informs you if the Innkeeper is currently active.
Some of the older free fiction is now only accessible through Other Fiction link.
The Release List is up to date.
You will be seeing minor tweaks. We are still waiting for some art and things have to be adjusted here and there. As of now we are resuming work on Ruder, which needs to be edited a bit. There might be some post reshuffling there, as we cut a few hundred words to make it leaner. This is about normal at this stage of the manuscript, so no worries.
A FEW OTHER RANDOM THINGS
The ebook of MAGIC SLAYS had vanished from Commonwealth markets for a bit and nobody can explain why, but it’s now available again.
Someone sent me links for the African American owned yarn stores but redesign resulted in us using a different form, so we lost a lot of your queries. Please resend and I will highlight the link in one of the posts.
The responses to your emails will be delayed because of this and also because despite being repeatedly warned that it was a bad idea, Brandi adopted a puppy. He and other litter mates were rescued by Human Society from a backyard breeder where they were starved and only allowed to drink stagnant water. His tail is permanently crooked as the result and it proved a massive barrier to him being adopted. Until Brandi came along.
His name is Quincy and he has four types of intestinal parasites. He has his own medicine shelf in the kitchen. Currently Brandi is sleep deprived, cleaning up worms everywhere, and doing fun things like taking Quincy to be X-rayed because he might have eaten something he shouldn’t. Spoiler: he didn’t, but the bill was still $200.
So a little delay on emails.
Well, that’s all for this Friday. I am exhausted. The migration was a huge amount of work, but it’s done, and hopefully it’s more organized now. We have to do our weekly house cleaning and then it’s work. How was your week?
Siobhan says
Congratulations! This seems to have been a massive amount of super-annoying work, and I am glad for your sakes that it is done and you can breathe again. And get back to doing the work you *enjoy* doing.

Your new website design is so clean and gorgeous! Also I’m in awe with how fast all the pages load :O
jenn says
Yes!! The speed with which the pages load! it’s awesome.
Aj says
I want to say thank you so very much for the chapters from Catalina’s book. I was so excited reading it that I was holding my breath. My husband told me to quit it. Also, is that Derek in the Ryder cover? That is fantastic as well. You two rock. Can’t wait. Love the new site. Have a great weekend.
Readerbabe says
It is beautiful, isn’t it? It’s SO much easier to navigate through. I love how each series had a separate tab and when I select it, I get to enter a whole new world altogether.
And don’t even get me started on the gorgeous artwork, it’s just marvellous! The fact that it’s individualised to each main character is a cherry on top. I feel like a kid in a candy shop, uncovering new exciting thing with each click. 🙂
Goethebier says
So I am still in awe about the new site and everything you build in those past years. And when I read your story about how long the road to publication was. Wow. But what stood out was the title the Dog and the wheel. Because it reminded me of a story oder better a documentary called the biggest little farm. Where kg all startet with a dog and through lot of hardship and learning all kinds of stuff the build this new ecosystem (world). Just like you with the kate books build this whole world. And now your daughter got a dog…and the wheels are turning…kind a funny. Thank you guys for giving us such wonderful places to go and meeing all those wonderful people. And to Brandi all the best and much joy with her new dog!
Popcorn says
Awwww poor pupper!! It’s good he will now have a much better life than he did previously. Hope you are able to relax a bit this weekend after all the work you did though having a new grandpup in the house might mean you all get less sleep!
Siobhan says
Ooh, two questions:
1) do we need to sign up again for the quarterly newsletter and/or the blog site?
2) what prompted the move to weekly blog updates? I know a lot of people don’t like daily — I don’t like it anywhere but here — but I really appreciated the daily updates here.
Ilona says
There have been no alteration to the mailing list that we know of. We didn’t even stop it, we just dumped the worldbuilding posts.
Siobhan says
Ah, because the button on this page says “click here to subscribe to weekly blog updates”.
Ilona says
There you go.
Siobhan says
Thank you for clearing up that confusion!
Siobhan says
Aaaaaand, I hate to do this, but I just saw it was in the footer as well.
Gordon says
Look at those ears, I would have named him Tabaqui.
Ilona says
::fans self:: Ooo, a literary reference. Do you come here often, because you can have my number?
Gordon says
Baby, if you were words on a page, you’d be fine print.
Tink says
That’s a new one. Did you use that when you were first trying to get her to date you?
Patricia Schlorke says
Aanndd the Horde will go somewhere else while you two flirt. 😉
KC says
Speak for yourself.
It’s cute in an adorkable way. 🙂
Oh Kay says
Totally cute
Karen says
Awesome! That’s a good one.
Tom says
Beautiful! (Both the redesign and the puppy)
Enjoy your rest/sleep/relax!
(Oh and I love the Curran ‘logo’ – not sure of the proper name – the image that appears in the url bar next to the address and in bookmarks etc. It’s so simple and yet characterful)
Ali says
Oh my gosh as GSD mom I am squealing this morning, such beauties!
Jen says
Well, it’s Fridee night and you have my synpathy: skunked dogs, adopted puppies AND switching software systems and you are still happily sane. Yep I’m exhausted but since it’s well past 5’0clock somewhere, I’m amused by life and astounded by the your capacity to cope with the incidentals in life whilst finding a way to work around them … reality reading at it’s best… 😉
Jessica says
The website redesign looks great! Quincy looks like a sweetie.
PMG says
So wonderful that you’re up and running again. LOVE Quincy and wonderful that he was rescued. Poor baby. We have a rescue potcake dog from the Dominican Republic. Love her to pieces. Will be getting another one as soon as the planes start flying. Can’t wait for next book.
Suzanne says
This post might be one of the best post on the Internet. New look- check! Puppies- check! ALL the info and updates- check!
I’m listening to the KD series on audio for the 1,028th time. (Next is the InnKeeper, then Hidden Legacy. I may have a clear schedule set…) I adore all of y’alls work on some level and will eager devour anything you release!
Meredith says
You guys worked so hard and everything looks amazing!
My week has been ROUGH. Work kind of sucks right now, and even though restrictions are lifting, the enforced togetherness with small kids along with lots of work responsibility is sapping my sanity. Looking forward to Emerald Blaze SO MUCH.
EliEden says
I hear you! We have two under the age of 4 and if it’s not the eldest throwing temper tantrums its the youngest opening the front door by herself and leaving (when did she learn to do that?). I hope this weekend things get better!
My husband has to go physically back to work next week so they’re starting daycare again on Monday. I’m absolutely terrified and yet a small, guilty, I’m-a-horrible-Mom part is also relieved.
Emerald Blaze cannot get here fast enough…
Angela says
He has the cutest ears ever! And looks only ready to pose if he is chewing on something precious, lots of fun ahead. Well done with the website. I recognize the amount of work behind the scenes cannot be seen from the front end, up we appreciate all your work.
Kristi says
Oh, so cute! Yay for rescue dogs!
kim hurt says
WOW i am tired just reading about your list of dones.
Anne says
Wow, am I impressed with your mad skills! Very minimal downtime and a beautiful update.
Wendy says
Congrats on the update! Looks awesome!
Rose says
The puppy is ADORABLE! He’s going to be kind of large…but cute. Best wished to the new baby…and his mum.
Emily Edwards says
Cute puppy! Hope he gets better soon!
Website looks great! Is the new title Blood Heir or Iron Heir? On the homepage it says Blood Heir and on the blog Iron Heir. I have never commented before about typos, but I thought that might be important. Sorry
Michele Conley says
Thanks for all your hard work. Congratulations on completing the transformation. Please rest and recharge. Hope you enjoy new levels of creativity!
Hazel Fitzgibbon says
Well done on the migration – I always think of birds with that word though… And well done with the puppy; poor little mite has fallen on his feet. Yes, puppies have a habit of investigating anything below waist height! And protein content is not a requirement!
Simone Wilhelmy says
this looks great, thanks for doing so much work to be in contact with your fans, i appreciate this.
i will miss the colors a little bit, though 🙂
i have a question, is “Iron heir” something different from “blood heir”? i thought there is only “Ryder” active on the blog. i mostly wait for the full book, its easier to read for me so i might have missed something.
Cherylanne Farley says
Whoa. Impressive and so clean looking. Well done. We have 6 day reprieve from horrible heat fires power loss so I’m running working hard saving ALL the goodness here to read when were down. Secret treasure. Now quick thanks. To keep working I had to switch to WFH plus become independent contractor. Also required to set up light mic essentially video studio from home. Finally to access required networks blahblah required to have domain name and web hosting and website. Barf, and of course install and pay for it. Borrowing inspiration from you all I. DID.IT. completely shocked. Words matter. Woohoo!
Tiffany Crystal says
You’re back, you’re back! YAY! The blog looks wonderful, so at least the hard (and annoying) work was worth it? ????????????
Alex says
I love the new site! I’m sure there will be some bugs and minor fixes, but it looks fantastic and I hope you’re thrilled.
Best of luck to Brandi with the new pup! My partner and I are old hands at caring for sick pups (and kits)… we might be running a hostel for tired older animals that need some TLC. It’s a lot of work, but stick it out through the hard parts, it’s worth it.
AP says
Thanks for suffering through the change because the new site looks fantastic! Love the lion logo too!
Pam says
Wowsers, that’s enough for 3 weeks! Good luck with the GSD puppy…hugs to all for saving him ! I love the new launch of the website, it’s fun to rediscover information. Happy Furday…umm Friday!
Tara Crescent says
Adorable! And I love the new blog design.
I know you have a zillion things going on, but if there’s any way to restore the Alphahole article you’d written, I’d really appreciate it. Thank you!
Siobhan says
Also, thank you and thank Avon for the Emerald Blaze excerpt/beginning. Excuse me:
SQUEEEEEEEEEEE
*breathe*
10,5 weeks. And Peace Talks in between. I can make it without collapsing into a complete puddle.
Susan Hoover says
Hugs
Jenn says
it’s been a crazy week. Looks like I may have recycled our “economic stimulus debit card” that I didn’t know we were getting. Apparently they send you a letter about it 15 days after it’s mailed to tell you about it. Then you find out it came in a plain envelope from a bank in Nebraska no one on the East Coast would ever have heard of. I didn’t think we were eligible, as I went back to work full-time last year, but they based it on old numbers. Which I’m sure will end up biting us in the ass eventually. SIGH.
I love the new site. it really looks beautiful and clean! I hope it serves you well!! Congrats on getting through it. Huge heaps of blessing upon Brandi for her rescue of the puppy. You are all such wonderful good people. Stay safe and well. Hope you can enjoy this coming weekend!
Kristi says
Jenn, you are not alone. One of our local columnists wrote about the number of people who had shredded the card.
Jenn says
Wow! Thank you! I did learn they waived the $7.50 replacement fee. What a fiasco.
J says
FYI, I’ve always subscribed to the blog but decided to add the newsletter. I clicked the link and subscribed. The confirmation email link went to a 404 page not found. Don’t know if that’s by design…
Anyway really like the new website!
EarlineM says
Cool new website!!! And poor Brandi…a new furbaby is WORK!!
Thanks so much for all you do. You’re blog is my daily work break. Either you or the new Horde posts are just what I need!
Melinda says
Congratulations! I love the website and all the beautiful artwork!
SueS says
Web site is really great (obviously worth the effort even if I don’t understand half of what all you went through to make it so pretty) and Quincy is adorable and thank you Brandi for the rescue! He’ll be SO worth it!
K Edgar says
after watching the news all I can say now is hunker down and pull up the drawbridge. Up here in the true north the face shield is being touted as the best as it covers face.
I had a stray kitten…he had the biggest ears…matured at 20 lb….he was an absolutely lovely cat .
Love the redesign. Love Ryder…..love all your writings…your a great team.
Stay safe and healthy.
S says
Does this mean older writing articles (like “Show Don’t Tell”) are gone forever? Darn, I wish I’d saved them, I liked to go back and read them on occasion, they were so interesting
Jenn says
Hi S, there’s a tab at the top when you first click on “latest posts Blog” that says “Writing Articles”… click that box and they are all there!
🙂
S says
I know, I looked through it and the older ones are all gone, “Show Don’t Tell” isn’t there anymore for example. There used to be more.
Priya says
The new website is lovely 🙂 And I am absolutely excited about Blood Heir. Hopefully, you guys can have a glass of wine each and chill for a few hours after all the hard work.
Brandi says
As a Brandi, I can personally testify that we don’t often listen. Especially when it comes to cute pets. He is sure a cutie.
New website looks great!
Joylyn says
Wow, it looks amazing! Great job!
Wenny says
Brandi is a doing a great thing for what I’m sure is an amazing dog. I very much relate to all the activities listed– did rescue in North Texas before moving west. I look forward to the stories of Quincy in the future.
But like, now I have to know: what are some of Quincy’s early nicknames? What is your dog speaking style?? Will our dogs ever pet us back??
(Website looks bomb, btw!! Great job!)
Bob says
The site redesign looks really nice 🙂
I do have a possible bug to report.
Reproduced consistently on a fully updated version of mobile Chrome (Android) on a Nokia 6.1 running Android 9
1 – enter a blog post, so far I’ve tried the latest 4 on the blog.
2 – start scrolling down
3- after scrolling down a small amount the page will snap back to the very top before continuing to scroll down. After this one snap to top it will start scrolling down for the rest of the page as normal.
4- this can be repeated on the page as often as you want
I’ve tested this on an old Moto G3 (on Android 5 I think) with updated chrome and Firefox and while it is there it is not nearly so noticable. I think because the phone is so old and slow it doesn’t render the snap back as well.
I’ve got no idea if this is more widespread than my phone or not so I thought I’d mention it.
Kim says
Just checked on my android using Chrome and I think it’s the name/menu switching format. It goes from menu above the name to a smaller version of the name with ‘menu’ beside it, and the page goes to the top when it redraws this.
Karen says
Wow – the website is fantastic! Read the 1st two chapters of Emerald Blaze woohoo can’t wait for the release.
Thank you for your hard work and amazing writing.
Stacy McKnight says
Looks great! I appreciate the work you guys do-both the writing and the fan support stuff ! Thanks.
Claudia says
Congrats on getting the redesign done! And, OMG, Quincy is the cutest!! God bless Brandi, he’s the best justification in the world for a little sleep deprivation.
Jennifer says
The new site is beautiful. Doesn’t it feel like you’ve took all the clothes out of a closet you haven’t organized in years, your room looked like a tornado blew through, and then you had to take the time to tediously sort through everything (keep, donate, toss) before it looked amazing again? 🙂 It’s always worth it.
I’ve been knitting (and struggling with) three sweaters. Startitis has taken hold during this social distancing time.
Lateefa Dawkins says
Ohh!! The redesign is so nice! When I scrolled down and saw the Hidden Legacy picture I got chills.
jewelwing says
Quincy is adorable! Having been through the parasite issue with a few rescues,I can say it is usually fixable.
Website looks great! Looking forward to Ryder as always. Have a wonderful weekend!
Ann M says
Beautiful puppy. We do need to adopt the ones that others pass up. He is going to be a gorgeous energy ball when he feels all better.
Rose says
It looks great!
Karen says
Good for you Brandi!!! He has the most gorgeous eyes.
