As promised, here is the running list of US independent bookstores participating in the Tor preorder promotion for This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (Maggie the Undying 1). These stores have confirmed that they will receive the official swag kits and are offering them with qualifying preorders.
As always, please remember that quantities are limited, so check with the indie of your choice directly if you have questions about the kits available and shipping etc. We will not be able to help with these details in the comments.
We’ll keep updating this list, so if you work or own an indie who wants to participate, please drop it in the comments below.

I did my best to group the bookstores by region per your requests, but as a non-USian, my understanding of American geography is based on vibes and airports. If I have committed a regional faux pas by putting a state in the wrong cultural bucket, please know it was done out of sheer ignorance, not in an attempt to trigger civil war in the comments.
A huge thank you to everyone who chimed in. Thank you, BDH, for showing up for indie bookstores, supporting authors, and generally being the delightful menace we rely on. May your swag arrive safely!
PS: Speaking of book news (always!), the Arcane Society Hidden Legacy special edition boxes have started to ship. If you have ordered another item alongside the HL box, shipping may be delayed for your order.

It’s fascinating to see which states have bookstores that are participating. A little surprised to see so few in some and so many in others. Either way it’s a fun way to order a much anticipated book from our favorite authorlords. Thanks, as always, for the useful info, Mod R!
I’m a bit disappointed that my own local bookstores have not responded to my emails, so I will be contacting one of the ones on the list. Fingers crossed they haven’t run out yet!
Thank you! I ordered mine already and am waiting with bated breath for March.
FWIW – I don’t think I would put Oklahoma in the South… especially since it is north of Texas. It is a toss-up if one considers Oklahoma and Texas part of the South-West. I personally would put “Great Plains” and include that all the way north to North Dakota… but that is the old Kansan in me. I leave it to those states’ inhabitants to weight in 🙂 Personally, I find it weird that the “Midwest” in some peoples’ minds goes from Ohio to Kansas and from Minnesota to Texas – but perhaps that is b/c people view it as fly-over land.
When I was taught the regions decades ago for state capital memorization, OK was part of the South because it also south of the Mason Dixen line that in the Missouri Compromise pre-civil war (so geography and history were tied together)
but also it was a school in Missouri and might not reflect the ideas of the Oklahomans
Ah yes… the “Show Me” state… 🙂 and of course, Missouri and Kansas don’t have a interesting (and bloody) history. [heavy sarcasm – lol]
Oklahomans have a weird mix of ideals and culture (former Okie, sister is the bookstore owner in Norman). I was raised with very southern ideals and social norms (foods, gender roles, politeness, and blessing everyone’s heart), a whole mess of twang that wasn’t always very refined, and a somewhat conservative but relatively broad political spectrum (80’s kid 🤷♀️) where people generally tried to live and let live. I tend to classify it as southern (I learned similarly about the mason dixon line) but only ever minded being called a midwesterner if it was someone from Texas saying it 😂
I’m going to go by my little bookstore this evening. Hopefully get some more Midwest representation.
I pre-ordered from Blue Willow Bookstore in Houston TX and got an email I would get the extras from the promo kit.
I believe Borderlands in San Francisco is also participating!
excellent! I went into Main Street books this weekend, ordered my copy and told them about the blog post, suggesting they let you know so the Horde can know!
I’m glad they did reach out! (the Midwest/Missouri store)
I absolutely missed the Virginia bookstore listed because it was under an Oklahoma bookstore –Virginia is more Southeast/Mid-Atlantic and Oklahoma is South West. 😄
Regions based on vibes is a great description of our part of North America.
I really want a signed copy, so hopefully whatever bookstores offer a signed option in the future will have swag as well.
To be fair to you Mod R, I think Americans would disagree. I as someone from Michigan only think the Midwest is those states that touch Michigan. Everything else is out west (which I recognize makes the west giant.)
