If you haven’t seen Thor, you should go. It was hilarious, over the top, with lots of cool action and fantastic visuals. Everything a comic book movie should be. Take the kids, they will enjoy it. Jeff Goldblum was to die for. Chris Hemsworth has spectacular comedic timing. Cate Blanchett was amazing, Idris Elba was great. Everything was great. They even pulled in some material from Planet Hulk. I had an awesome time and the whole date was marvelous (<—Ha!) Go see! So they can make another one just like that.
Yesterday was Sunday, but today is Monday. Working on Kate today, as usual. Here is a tiny snippet of the baby.
That done, I sat Conlan down, got his fire truck out of storage, and chanted it into life. The truck was a gift from Jim and Dali for his first birthday. Large enough for a small child to sit in and climb on, it had a tiny enchanted water engine, which powered lights and a ladder. It must’ve cost them an arm and a leg. Conlan adored the truck. He showed no interest in riding on it, but he liked to climb on the roof, which usually took him a solid five minutes and multiple tries. Once he ascended, he would wave his arms and make strange noises. Sometimes he fell asleep on top of it. Like his dad, my son enjoyed being in high places.
DawnK says
Life is keeping me away from the theatre and Thor! Must go this weekend! Neither he’ll nor high water will keep me away! And omg can’t wait to read more Conlan!
Colleen says
It was very funny and over the top. They even snuck Karl Urban in there. What a cast!
Thor: Quite unique. It was made from this special metal from the heart of a dying star. And when I spun it really, really fast it gave me the ability to fly.
Korg: You rode a hammer?
Thor: No, I didn’t ride the hammer
Korg: The hammer ride you on your back?
Thor: No, I would spin it really fast and it would pull me off the…
Korg: Oh my god, the hammer pulled you off?
Thor: The ground! It would pull me off the ground, into the air and I would fly.
Tracy says
It was a very intimate relationship 😉
M says
I am planning to see Thor… that snippet soooooo cute!!!
Kristine says
Thank you!
I cannot wait to see Thor too…
Meryl Markowitz says
Saw the movie too. Loved it. Laughed a lot. Did you catch Matt Damon in it? Thanks for the snippet.
Tink says
Who was playing opposite Matt? I couldn’t quite figure out if it was someone we should have known. It would have been hilarious if it had been Jimmy Kimmel, but if it was, I didn’t recognize him in makeup.
Kendra says
It’s Chris hemsworths other brother Luke Hemsworth.
ladyreadsalot says
And Sam Neill opposite both of them.
wont says
Sam Neill is in this movie?
Tink says
Small part.
Patricia Schlorke says
Yes. It’s when Odin is having a theater production of Thor and Loki. So funny. I didn’t realize who were playing them until I saw the credits.
Cindy says
Saw it last week, what a riot! Cate Blanchet was having a blast being absolutely badass! Think I’m going to see it again
SoCoMom says
Loved the latest Thor movie. Everything you said. Jeff Goldblum was made for this role. The soundtrack punched it in all the right places.
SoCoMom says
I think if you remember the 1970s, you’ll get an extra couple levels of enjoyment out of this.
Patricia Schlorke says
Definitely.
Ariana says
Saw Thor on the Thursday the week it came out. I loved the comedy in it, reminded me more of Deadpool comedy than the previous Marvel movies.
Loved the snippet even more, thank you for sharing!
Richard says
Love the snippet. Thank you!
Ms. Kim says
Thank-you for making up my mind to see Thor.
I take it Conlan got the truck for his first birthday? With talk of getting it out of storage, it makes the timeline sound really far along. Is he still about 18 months? Did the family move? Is that why the truck was in storage?
kelticat says
I took it to mean that they don’t keep the toy out in the open. It is probably the same size as one of those drivable battery operated cars, so they could keep it in a shed, spare room, or the garage. If it has all the bells and whistles as a real fire truck that means that it could have a bell and/or siren that doesn’t need the water engine to work. Kate never knows if he will start playing with it instead of climbing on it, so she probably keeps it where he can’t get to it so he doesn’t wake the CEO of the Guild, CEO of Cutting Edge, a high school student, and the neighbors.
It’s like Homer’s Odyssey, where the woman put the rubber band guitar in the closet so her cat wouldn’t start playing it while she’s trying to sleep.
Brandi says
Thank you! Happy world kindness day! I’m still debating whether it makes me a good mother or bad mother that I took one of my four boys out of school in the middle of the day to go see Thor with just him and I. With four of them, it seems like they never get enough one on one time so that was his. In my defense, I did make him go back to school after.
Diane says
I still remember in Grade 6 (aged 10 or 11) my mother taking me out of school to see Fantasia. I can’t remember the reactions of my two sisters. I can’t remember if they ever had similar times with my mother.
I think you are a good mother. Just make sure the other three get similar treats at some time.
ladyreadsalot says
You are an awesome Mom. I have not taken my kids out for a movie but I have definitely allowed them “mental health days” where I accept a questionable reason for not going.
We saw Thor last Sunday and loved every second of it!!
Mimi says
I guess I have to the bad guy here. Education should not be trivialized by taking a day off to see a movie, no matter how splendid a time Mom and son might have. That’s what weekends are for. And that’s also why my husband retired after 20 years of teaching. Both parents and students seemed to think education was a low priority when compared to all the other distractions life has to offer. Sad really, when children in many places would give almost anything for the educational opportunites available here in the US.
edgarharris says
My kids understand that “mystery days” can only happen if they are doing very well in school. Plus missing lunch, gym and “enrichment” is not going to set them back, or teach them that education is not important.
Diana says
Assuming school is the only path to education trivializes learning. There is value and things to be learned outside of the classroom. My mother let me skip school so I could nap and go to the midnight premier of The Phantom Menance (I am, and was, a Star Wars fan). What I learned from that was life needs balance, and working all the time isn’t healthy either. Quite frankly, that was a more valuable lesson for me than anything covered in school that day. Should skipping class for movies happen often? Of course not, but teaching how to balance work and play is important too.
Brandi says
This is the only time he has ever missed school for anything other than an illness. Missing two and a half hours of school does not mean I trivialize the importance of education. It’s great that you and your husband had weekends to do special things with your children but do understand that is not always the life experience of everyone. Learning also does not take place just inside the doors of school. Are we blessed to have the educational opportunities we do here in the US? Yes but I don’t plan on ever assuming someone else will teach my children everything they need to know.
Regina says
Best Mom Ever Award ?!
Regina says
(Just don’t make a habit of truancy or it won’t be special any more, just illegal)
Kelly Jacobs says
I loved your snippet.
Thank you
Joylyn says
OMG, we just saw it this weekend also and it was AMAZING! How can a movie that has “the goddess of death” in it be sooooo funny? It was so worth paying to see in the theater!
Thank you for the snippet to start my week 🙂
Mark says
Saw it with two of my grandkids on Saturday. We all had a blast and came out of the theater still laughing.
Patricia Schlorke says
Thank you for that very adorable snippet of Kate and Conlan. When I get back from my Thanksgiving trip, I may go see Thor again before the new Star Wars movie comes out (providing my local theater still has Thor to show).
Tink says
Yeah, one of my brothers suggested Thor as the family Xmas movie, but no way was I going to wait that long to see it. As my nephew said, we’ll just have to see it again.
Tink says
The only problem with the movie was the girly screams. They were funny, but what caused the screams didn’t seem scary enough to elicit that type of response from that character.
Oh, and Benedict! Love me some Benedict.
Candice says
Yes Benedict!
Bookworm says
Now I can’t wait to see Thor! I rarely go to see movies in the movie theater – I usually just wait to see it until it comes out on video. However, I will go see movies that are truly made for a huge screen (usually some sort of epic/visual masterpiece). I do have a question for anyone who’s seen it: is this one of those movies or would it be equally good if seen at home? And thank you AuthorLords for the snippet, it was delightful as always!! May all that you have to do (from writing to preparing for your new house to getting ready for the holidays) go well and be filled with joy.
Tabitha says
It’s definitely worth seeing in theaters! There are several moments where it’s a slow motion wide screen shot of total epicness that just wouldn’t be the same at home.
Lauren says
Definitely worth seeing at the theater (especially IMAX, Chris Hemswoth – two stories tall and no shirt. Yes!)
wont says
The snippet!! The snippet!! So many times, kid (especially little kid) parts sort of roll by me. This was excellent. A tiny enchanted water engine!! Hahaha!!!! I’m enjoying all the Conlan parts far more than I expected. They all are helping with the wait. Thank You!
jewelwing says
I have had a little crush on Chris Hemsworth ever since the Star Trek reboot. Can’t wait to see this.
KR says
Dying to see Thor. My daughter and I have a rivalry about which of us loves Jeff Goldblum more. I think I win because she’s 17 and I have loved him since Tenspeed and Brownshoe. So there. hehehehe
ladyreadsalot says
Is it wrong of me to be “shipping” toddlers?? and between authors? Somehow when I started reading Conlan snippets all I could think of was “He needs to meet Naya “( baby panther shapeshifter from Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series).
Patricia Schlorke says
Oh my gosh! That would be a great collaboration. It would be interesting how Lucas, Sascha, Kate, and Curran would react to that. 😀
Natalie says
The cuteness would be overwhelming. I might not be able to function after uttering all the Awwwwws.
DianainCa says
Thanks for the snippet! Glad you loved the movie!
Gail K says
Ohh I agree , Conlan needs to have a play date with Naya from Nalini Singh’s books . And now I definitely need to see Thor. Sound just like what we all need some fun and laugh out loud silliness ??
rbhawk says
Love the snippet.
One question: Enchanted water engines are described as loud enough to wake the dead.
Isn’t that a bit wrong for a toy?
RobtheFiend says
Isn’t 3 am (03.00) made for just such toys?
(From one of Pratchett’s books)(Hogfather, i think)
Tink says
That’s the beauty of it. If you’re the friend, aunt/uncle, grandparent, etc., you give the kid the noisy toy to annoy the parents. You know, like the drum set or the toy fire engine with the loud siren. Or the fart gun that Sean loved so much. 😉
kelticat says
When my sisters were little my aunt gave them a popper with bells for birthday/Christmas. My mom responded with the identical toy for her sons.
Ara says
My favorite movie in the Marvelverse…it was hilarious, fantastically paced, and the actor’s all did a super job. Loved the Cumberbatch cameo! That said, imo it’s not for kids < ~10. It's gory and the opening scene would terrify both my kiddos (5 & 7). Helena's imagery is dark and menacing, plus there's lots of general murder and mayhem.
Ami says
I saw Thor!! It was so totally awesome and just exactly what I needed this weekend! I’m glad y’all loved it too.
And thank you for the snippet! I’m so excited to meet this kid!
Rena says
I forgot that Thor was out. Hum, I wonder if it will be out on DVD by Christmas. I should get a day off for Christmas, so I can preorder it and watch it then.
I am not losing sleep to go to the theater to see it.
Tink says
Nope. I think the soonest you see a DVD is 4-5 months after the end of the theatrical release. I expect Thor will still be in theaters to the beginning of December, at least, possibly even to Xmas. Which means DVD wouldn’t come out until March or April at the earliest.
Donna says
Awww, cute Conlan.
Christine says
First thing I imagined, Conlan as King Kong ruling the fire truck ♡ Cutie I’ll keep you! ♡
ready to read says
haha. I saw it in my mind as King Kong or when I was a kid … King of the Hill.
Love the snippet.
My second thought was Titanic.
Cortland says
I guess I’m in the minority here. Thor Ragnorak underwhelmed me.
I thought the acting was outstanding, the story decent enough, and the direction… left a lot to be desired. I enjoy slapstick or silly humor when done well – Caddyshack or Guardians of the Galaxy being excellent examples of doing it right. Dumb and Dumber type humor though … to me it’s simply – dumb.
To me it felt like the director prioritized stupid jokes and over the top cinematography more than good story telling.
Jess B says
I kind of felt like that the first time I saw it as i have always loved the focus on intertwining all the marvel stories and great writing – i went to see it a second time and allowed myself to just Laugh.
I really love it now, and i appreciate how thor has evolved into his true potential as a God. I guessed that this was going to happen before its release
What i like is …by this new direction and storyline has the potential to go in different directions after avengers 3…chris Hemsworth is so far only contracted for the one more movie…by this one doing so well i hope he gets more!!!

I fear that this book may very well kill me.
Andibugs says
Thor was fantastic! Bit of national pride here! New Zealand director Taika Waititi and classic NZ humour. Best bit when Thor kept swinging around in the chains interrupting the threatening…
Korg sounds like a shearer from the East Coast! Brilliant!
If you want more of that kind of silliness check out ‘What we do in the shadows’, a mockumentry on vampires also directed and acted in by Waititi plus Jermaine Clement (Flight of the Concords).
Andibugs says
though I must admit I did miss some of the shakespeare gravitas a little. But then you can’t have everything… Wonder how they’re going to intergrate this with the darker Infinity War…
Annamal says
Taika Waititi is amazing (and also a national treasure).
Natalie says
I imagine Conlan making the squeaking, chittering and breathy meh sounds my kittens make while perched on his truck.
Omar Mtz says
Ahhhhhhhhh, i need visual representation of this.
Fan in California says
James Corden did a “4D” takeoff of Thor at a local cinema — surprising moviegoers who were there to see the film. Chris, Tom, Mark, and Cate participated. Someone shared the video on FB and it’s available on YouTube. It’s a hoot!!!
Fan in California says
PS. Thanks for the snippet!!!!
Nona says
Thanks !
? What form does conlan ascend in?
And that teaser hints that he is well over 1 or not half way there….
Carol says
I am so happy you had a good time! Just perfect for renewal! Thank you for the snippet!! I love that little boy! He is great!
Dimitra says
I have a question.. From all the snippets so far we see the baby a lot so I guess my question is do we see the pregnancy or the birth at all?
kelticat says
Birth yes, pregnancy no.
Anita says
I’m glad you liked it as much as I did. I haven’t laughed that much watching an action movie in a while.
Aside from that, thanks for the new sneak peek of Kate 10 and Conlan in all his cuteness.
Marianne says
So glad you enjoyed the movie and your date night!! Going to have to go see it now – sounds hilarious!!
Thank you for the snippet as well. Too cute! Can’t wait to read meet and read more about little Conlan. ?
Serious question here – did the Throat Coat tea help? I have had a sore throat for a little over a month now, and nothing is getting rid of it! Rrrrrgggg!!!!! I know I usually suffer with allergies & such this time of year, but have never had this particular problem that nothing works on. Frustrating!!!!
Marianne says
Oops! Take the first “read” out from in front of “meet” . Did NOT mean “read meet”. Sigh!
Ilona says
Throat Tea helps for a little bit.
Marianne says
Thank you. I hope your throat is better!
Tamara Grantham says
I’m a huge fan of the new Thor movie. I even took all 5 kids to the theater to see it. Even the 2 and 4 year old. That’s saying a lot.

On that note, thank you for the snippet! It reminded me of my boys when they were young!
