Kid 1 and her boyfriend went down to South Padre for a short getaway. Once the school ends, prices at South Padre beach fall dramatically, and they were very excited about their 4 days getaway. They are supposed to be back Tuesday. Except there is a tropical storm and the area they are in is registering 85 mph winds and floods. They would have to drive through it the entire way up. So they are stuck and we ended up booking the room for a couple more days.
Kid 2’s dishwasher broke and died a sad death due to its very advanced age. New dishwasher was bought.
Someone opened a bank account in my name. We are on top of it. We have signed up for fraud alert, but even if we hadn’t, we caught it within minutes anyway because Wells Fargo helpfully sent out a notification. Given their prior history, I am mildly suspicious as to how this new account originated, but it is now frozen pending investigation.
We saw the cover of Ruby Fever. We sent it back. The less is said about it, the better.
Still waiting on Fated Blades preorder link, but it is good news. The delay is due to the publisher deciding to do a print edition, so yay! This “novella” is long enough to do a print.
My hair keeps falling out. Is it stress? Is it age? Who knows.
I am going to finish my cup of Harney & Sons Vanilla Black Tea and cook lunch, and then it’s back to Ruby Fever. How is your Monday?
Katie R says
I’ve been running around all day. Barely had enough time to grab a protein bar and got dehydrated and seriously head-achy.
Son’s b-day is tomorrow and I still have to do some shopping because several of the mail ordered presents haven’t come in yet. Daughter gets off work at 7:30 so she’s meeting me for night shopping, which should be a nice pick-me-up after a too-hectic day.
I will sleep well tonight. (I hope!)
Elizabeth says
As a school bus driver, you hope people have common decency. Alas, 3 drivers ran thru my stop sign 3 different times as kids were getting on the bus.
I managed to get two license plates & a partial. They each get $250 ticket, 5 points on their license & 60 day suspension. more if not first offense.
Personally, I want a machine gun mounted on my bus that shoots paintballs. Sooooooo many cars would be covered in paint.
Please ALWAYS stop for the school bus with lights flashing. Kids lives depend on it. The driver will wave you on if you don’t need to stop.
And my kid won her Miracle League baseball game. Life is good!
Jean says
As a former preschool bus aide, I thank you for this post!! And congrats on the “trifecta” on the fools who went through your stop sign!!
My bus driver co-worker and I had a good laugh the day an impatient person couldn’t wait for us to pick up two kids and drove around us, only to have a police squad that was headed the other direction pull a U-turn and stop the driver, who then got a ticket and a hefty fine.
(Don’t tempt Fate. It always costs more than one thinks it will!!)

Sitting in my office at Texas Children’s Hospital, waiting for Nicholas to arrive. I am here on the ride out squad, so will be working tonight and tomorrow, assuming that there is actually enough rain to interrupt hospital services. I have left my son home with the cats, and the electronics unplugged and elevated. The forecast is looking better for central Houston, so I hope it was all unnecessary!

Both of my kids were healthy enough for school and cats aside I had some peace and quiet! It’s a good Monday for me. Yay for print!!

Hope things calm down. hope kid 1 gets home safely. I feel your paid regarding hair. I used to have enough hair for two people, but it’s getting thinner all the time. Stress, age, medicine, genetics.. or all of the above. sigh…….

Just recently realized because the landlords changed, we can get a pet! There is still a lot of stuff that needs to happen prior to getting one, but I’m so excited to be able to have a pet as an adult!

Sorry about your aggravations and worries. Hopefully everything comes out okay with the storm and karma rebalances the scales w/ good things.
I spent three hours looking for a spreadsheet someone kindly misplaced or deleted to no avail but then was given a nice gift card from my coworkers at the end of the day so that made things better.

I saw this suggestion on a British nutrition show about thinning hair and it has worked for me.
Every day I eat a handful of raw pumpkin seeds for my hair and nails.
After years of doing this I still marvel when I get to trim my nails, and my hair grew back thick enough for a pony tail.
kommiesmom says
My hair thinned when I had to start estrogen blockers after the lumpectomy and radiation. (I really had the least dangerous breast cancer ever. I felt like an imposter at the doctors for my treatments. The other ladies were had such a worse time of it.)
Doesn’t matter – you take the same medications afterward, for the asme 5 years. That means I can stop about next April.
My hair is both thinner in texture and sparser. Since I keep it short, I can’t tell whether the hair on my clothes is mine or the white cat’s – he’s an “almost long-hair”. The long-haired Maine Coon is a tortoise shell tabby, and partially dilute, so she sheds every color from cream to bright orange to inky black. The mix is just plain grey, however. If I could just get her to shed where the Halloween decorations go, I’d never need fake spider webs…
Sorry about the crummy cover. I guess it’s par for the course given how much pain you guys are dealing with otherwise on the book front.
I am “looking forward” to the storm hitting Houston. I decided I would not need to buy any extras. I already had bread, milk, and toilet paper. There’s enough non-refrigerated stuff in the house that I can eat for days and so can the felines.
I hope your kids ride / rode out the storm in good shape. Luckily the storm surge is not predicted to be big.

Hey, my thyroid died, my hair stayed put. I have to take vitamin D every day, my hair stayed put. Chemo took most of my hair last summer, left me with something like 14 strands hanging around, which I forced my husband to cut off me. I put out what fell out for birds to use in nests last spring. Good time. Hair grew back, it curls like Shirley Temple’s did, but the ends are fuzzy like baby hair. Looks awful. Pandemic on top of chemo continuing means I have zero energy to go get the ends cut off, but all mirrors show me looking like Art Garfunkel. It’s not a good look.
You know what? I don’t really care much.
Get your thyroid tested. My mother never had eyebrows until she got her thyroid tested when she was really old because her doctors when she got old were not the same one who gave her the original replacement pills and they had too low a dose for her. It’s just a blood test and any doctor can run it, but few do. See an endocrinologist for real information. A wonky thyroid causes a lot of real issues you’d never imagine. Trust me on that one.
The storm will blow, the rain will fall, and your child is intelligent enough to stay put until it’s over and done and safe enough to leave. You raised her right.
The Ruby Fever book cover will be done better, I’m sure, and the book will be finished because that’s how you do things. The new Fated Blades going into print should have been predicted, because everything you two write is too good to say it shouldn’t be printed on paper.
The real beauty is the new dishwasher. I was so happy to get my new one that I danced after I got it installed. It runs so quietly that you have to look to see the lights on it to know it’s even running. I hope they enjoy it.
And now Monday is ending and we all can hope for a better Tuesday.
Aggiereader says
Oh my word, Ruby Fever is just being so difficult for you! I think you need to have a very good bottle of wine when it is all done.
I had surgery today. I planned it specifically so that it wasn’t during a busy time at work, and my little kids would be at school. Well, school just got cancelled due to the tropical storm. I know it’s selfish, and other people are dealing with much bigger issues, but I just can’t believe that after multitasking with kids and a job during a pandemic, that I now have to multitasking with surgery recuperation (abdomen) AND children during a storm.

Both kids were healthy and back in school at the same time for the first time in 2 weeks so I got a full day of work during normal work hours. Today is rated A++

I’m sorry that happened to you! If I were you I would bail out of Wells Fargo, they’re going to go down. They’ve ended their personal loan program. They keep getting in more trouble.

My Monday started by canceling my chiro appointment. Went back to office after being away on a staycation last week. I had received an email Sunday night from the big boss about staying home if possible flooding/school zones closed. No such luck on school closures Monday morning so went to the office to check my inbox and print whatever I could so I can work from home Tuesday. Came back home (30 minute drive), ate lunch and continued work. Now I am praying Houston/we/other areas don’t get any massive flooding. ????

Wow what a Monday! So sorry for all the hassles. It does look like kid1 and s.o. might get a decent break tomorrow and Wed. Just checked the forecast there. Hopefully they can get beach time tho probably not water time.
Good news on the novella! Hang in there and thanks for pet pic! Darn cute.

My Monday was great. About an hour ago I got back from an Eric Clapton concert. He was in Fort Worth at Dickies Arena which is about 5 minutes away from my place. The concert was awesome. ????
I’m taking Tuesday off from work to recover.

Mondays? Pfui. Although with no drama or real problems. I haven’t tried Harney & Sons Vanilla Black, though I’ve enjoyed their Queen Catherine tea. I once tried a Creamy Earl Grey, which was with vanilla. Not to my taste, but I dumped it on, er, donated it to a group and the one comment I heard was of real pleasure.
For later in the day I do like Celestial Seasonings Honey Vanilla Chamomile.

Regarding hair loss.
I had covid February 2020. I wasn’t tested because it wasn’t a thing yet, and it takes a lot more than a 104 fever, body aches, and a lossed sense of taste to send me to a doctor. Anyhow, I lost 2/3 of my hair over about a month and a half period starting April 2020. After loosing more hair than seemed normal for a couple weeks I called a bunch of family members on the other side of the country that had experienced the same crazy flu as me a weeks earlier and they were also loosing a lot of hair.
At that time we had lockdowns, but far less information was out about covid aftermath and I was informed by people that it was unrelated, however my own research indicates that very high fevers turn off the growth switch in our hair follicles and it’s not uncommon to experience hair loss 1-3 months after being sick with a high fever. By the end of summer 2020 there were articles to be found about hair loss as a result of covid fevers.
On the plus side, I lost the hair evenly so while it’s much thinner, people don’t notice. Also it did eventually stop falling out for both myself and my relatives. Yay!

I tell people that I lost brain cells when I lost my hair; the hair is growing back, but the brain cells, not so much!

For the cover of the awful book maybe you could change it up, instead of the lead couple make it something funny like Shadow and a used birthday club. (This will impact sales negatively please don’t do it)

When my hair started falling out, I thought stress, vitamin deficiency, etc., and bought a Theradome. That thing is marvelous! My hair is back as thick as ever. Last August, I learned the hair loss was caused by lupus. Apparently, I’ve had it for several years, but my old rheumatologist hadn’t checked for it after the initial blood tests. New rheumatologist found it immediately.

Hair falling outā¦ get your thyroid checked. That one is a classic symptom.
Generators are lifesavers especially if you could be hit by hurricanes in your area as well. I really like the ones that auto test themselves and that power on when the house looses power. They are a great investment.
Solar power is a whole other dramatic production. Yes you generate solar power and the power is put into a battery bank. Then the house uses it whenever you want it and if the battery bank gets too full the excess goes back into the grid.
Texas is a good area for solar, but winter will always give you less output because the angle of the sun changes and a lot of UV power doesnāt permeate the atmosphere. Still Texas has a lot less issue with that than Washington.

Oh I was just a victim of fraud too! I went out west in mid-August to visit Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Glacier and it looks like at some point during that visit my card info was stolen. I used it pretty frequently and who knows where they swiped it. When I got back from vacation, I noticed three charges for a AAA membership (I don’t own a car) and some weird Google charge I knew I had not made. My bank is also Wells Fargo so they cancelled the card, reimbursed me the credit, and issued me a new debit card since I called right away as soon as I noticed the charges. The friend I traveled with was not a victim of fraud but she used mostly cash while we were traveling. The most inconvenient part was being without a debit card for about a week.
Moral of the story: check your bank statements frequently.

No, seriouslyā¦ My hair was coming out in gobs. I was complaining to a co-worker and she asked what shampoo I was using. As a former hairdresser, her first response was, āwhy do you hate your hair?ā Apparently LāOrĆ©al is not the hair care brand anyone should use. She recommended āStrong Sexy Hairā. Iāve never even picked a bottle of that up to look atā¦but her response sent me straight to the store. My hair stopped coming out in gobs. I am happy. I do like reading your snapshots of your days. It just shows me that there are others out there in the great universe who have odd days/ weeks & get through them as painlessly as possible. Hereās hoping that the precautions youāre taking now for winter prove more than adequate.
Today, after my partner had finished his shower & Id helped him get dressed & shaved him, I sorted myself out & then got on with a few jobs before taking him to visit his cousin who is now completely blind due to cataracts. While there I removed the penicillin growing on her butter before returning it to the fridge????????????. At home we waited in vain for the chap who was supposed to come & measure the conservatory floor for new flooring????.
On an up note Im in the middle of a Chinese historical drama on YouTube that Im looking forward to later this evening. And the heating is back onāŗļøāŗļø

“We saw the cover of Ruby Fever. We sent it back. The less is said about it, the better.” Wow, that must have been disappointing.
I bought some H&S flavors that are new to me:
1. Venetian Tiramisu – Yum! White tea with a lovely custard flavor. Will buy more.
2. Chocolate Chai- one of the spices made me nauseated smelling it. Why, I don’t know. I drink chai from other brands all the time. I’ll try it one more time in case it was a fluke.
3. Black Cask Bourbon – Tasted lovely, smokey with a hint of bourbon, but gave me heartburn. Gave it to my mom.
4. New England Breakfast- it’s ok I guess. Not much maple flavor, but it’s drinkable.
5. Viennese Earl Grey – tastes like plain tea. No bergamot to be found.
I also bought a herbal pumpkin spice from them, but haven’t wanted to try it yet. It’s 86 today, doesn’t feel like pumpkin spice season.

Regarding dishwasher, mine lasted 15 years then was recalled by manufacturer ādue to fire hazard. Mother freaked out and used a sledge hammer on it. Sigh. I hate the new one with all the buttons as Mother likes to randomly push while running. Sigh
Well at least we will hear about the lawn mowing orphans mafia again this year as grass might get enough rain to grow. Or there may be mud pits. ????. Time for a cup of tea here.

You could install a solar power system, our home is powered by a combination of solar and hydro-generated power, they feed into our inverter and battery bank, which stores the power and supplies the house. We also have a petrol-powered generator which hooks into this as a back-up for droughts, extended low-sun periods, and major storms. If you’re only using this as a back-up, you’d need a way to bleed off excess power as it is generated, some electricians hook it into a hot water “supplier” tank, (which then feeds into your existing hot water, or swimming pool filter system), to prevent wasting it.
Solar panels need to be kept clean to be effective, and there’s a decision to make on how many you need depending on what rating you want your system to be (5kw? 15kw?) and choosing what type of storage battery system to have (lead acid ones are like a giant car battery and need maintenance, or Tesla have a more high-tech option).
Of course, you have to check the legislation and requirements for your area, we’re in New Zealand so ours will differ, but there must be specialist electricians local to you who could advise further. Hope this helps!

My Monday was wonderful – a water heater was finally installed, 10 days after my old one died: of course it died Saturday evening of Labor Day weekend, of course it did ! Nothing like a hot shower (and being able to wash the dishes properly). The simple pleasures.

Speaking of electric generators, you aren’t that far off. I work for a Blue Bird school buses dealer. The electric school buses have v2g (Vehicle to Grid) technology that gives you the ability to reverse the charged batteries from the vehicle back into the power infrastructure. A huge electric vehicle benefit of this technology is it makes the vehicle become a giant electric storage system for emergency use. Image what a fleet of bus-sized power sources can do in power-down conditions or emergency conditions.
