Okay, so I screwed up. When UK sent the packet listing the editions, the wording was slightly confusing.
This is the regular UK hardcover.

This is the International HB hardcover.

It is my fault. I did not confirm. The pack of promotional materials made it seem like this was the regular UK hardcover, so we advertised it as such. Nobody caught it on our end or the publisher’s. The publisher sent advertising materials with the plain edge hardcover on April 1st, which we did not see until this Monday because we were on tour. This is on me. I am very sorry.
My suggestion is to return the book. Right now the only way to get sprayed edges in UK is to buy the Waterstones Edition, so if you want the sprayed edges, I would return and purchase the Waterstones. I am not sure where or how one would get the International UK HB, but I will have the ISBN for you when Tor UK provides it. Thank you to Kat in the comments: ISBN 9781037400674.
I apologize. It was not my intention to engage in false advertising.
Everyone who purchased the plain edge UK edition expecting the painted edges will have an option to receive a free ebook copy of the upcoming Guide to Kair Toren, which will include art and bonus material. We know it’s an inadequate compensation, but we hope it will help a little. We will provide you with the details on how to get that free copy closer to the publication date, which hopefully will be around the end of May/beginning of June.
We will explore additional options to make it up to you. Mod R is currently out for an important errand, but when she returns, she will forward your emails to me and I will contact everyone who emailed personally to apologize.

No one is perfect. Try to be kind to yourself. I got my basic hardback at my local store and it is wonderful!
Thank you. You are very gracious. But I should have confirmed what I was advertising. I know better.
I live in the U.S. and was being supportive but thank-you for the reply anyway! You caught a mistake and are dealing with it. Sometimes that is all one can do. Thank-you for all you both do for your devoted hoard of readers!
Thank you for demonstrating, as always, the ethical core that makes you the person that you are. Taking responsibility for a mistake and then taking steps to mitigate the impact as well as you can is all you can do. You’ve made it clear that you’re not motivated by guilt or shame. I appreciate that you act with integrity.
+1000!
BDH loves you regardless, Ilona/Gorden/ModR/Others…
Also more Kair Toren material? When? Where??? Sign me up!!!
After devouring Maggie I in record time, I am now embarked on a savouring journey for my second read, and perhaps I can coincide the third read with this mythical-as-yet-unseen Guide for an even more in-depth dive into The Shennanigans of Kair Toren!
*claps enthusiastically*
+100. Mistakes happen but I know guilt is hard to let go
It’s okay, we still like you!
Now I wish I had ordered the UK version just to get a personal email from Ilona.
Also Guide to Kair Toren? When is that coming out? Did I miss a blog post? We love you guys!
Check here: https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/art-owlcrate-and-other-things/ — scroll down to “companion book.”
I’m not affected, being an ebook reader, but your post is another reason you are my favorite authors. You owned up to a mistake and are trying to make up for it.
You are good, ethical people and I truly admire you.
Well said +1,000
Seconded. There is not nearly enough of this going around, so every bit adds to the ambient goodness. HA always comes through on that count.
Here here!!
💯
They are truly a class act! +1000
+1
Before I purchased my copy I looked at a bunch of different versions and saved the ISBN of the International Hardcover version as an option. It’s sold out at Blackwell’s but still appears available at a bunch of other retailers.
Of course the publishers (and Ilona’s) word trumps everything but if you search for ISBN 9781037400674 it should bring up options to purchase this version
Brilliant! Thank you so much!
I was able to purchase this ISBN from Blackwell’s UK over the weekend. It seems they’ve restocked, though I’m not actually in the UK, so it’s theoretically possible that I’m seeing different info.
Looks like they’re out of stock again. I got the plain edge version sadly. I’ll be returning it and will keep searching for UK HB copy with the spayed edges. I also managed to snag the blue edge Canadian version (as well as the audio and kindle versions so I was covered in all eventualities). It is such an amazing story.
Oh no! That feeling like you’ve disappointed people AND that you’ve just made more work for yourself….I know it well. Also, I second the person who said that if they knew they would get an email from Ilona, they would have happily ordered the wrong book!! I’d pay real money for a real-life HA pen-pal!
Mistakes happen, it’s ok. Be kind to yourselves; we adore you and you bring our lives so much joy.
I bought the UK cover from UK Amazon it has the right cover but the edges are not sprayed. Very disappointing. Lesson learned.
Is there any news about the Polish edition?
Aw thank you! I was one affected, but I thought it was just one of those things, possibly my own error in ordering.
It’s good to get clarity around the different versions, and very generous to create something for us.
The International HB edition and edges I bought came from Blackwells.co.uk
Also, heads up that they had multiple listings for the various versions of this book, so be sure to select accordingly.
++++1
The multiple listings started to trip me up, very glad I didn’t change my mind and order the cheaper option.
Mistakes happen. It’s okay. There are ways to fix it and returning a purchase is a part of the consumer experience.
Thank you for this amazing world. All three of my sons (18, 15, and 12) are devouring this book and there have been gasps and side conversations with me individually so as not to spoil the experience of those that aren’t as far in the book journey. We have loved this new addition to our family library. They will be thrilled to learn of the extra guide and art!
Ohhhh that’s so fun that your kids love it too!
The joys of the publisher having different versions of same book.
I agree with everyone else mistakes happen. I have the e-book version, so I am not affected by the craziness.
We still love you (and want book 2).
This is above and beyond resolution work.
Thank you for all your care to the BDH!
I love my waterstones edition, my to be delivered owl crate, and my to be delivered arcane. And the three regular I picked up at my local independent.
It’s an amazing story and I rue that I have to work instead of just reading all day…but it lets me buy all the books
I was a little sad not to have the sprayed edges, however the book is fantastic, so I’m all fine. I also got the book on time, so was able to read and enjoy sooner. 😊
Well, I did have a moment when I looked at the white edges, but then I thought actually I’m buying it for the words not the sprayed edges and I got a good discount on the price, so I just settled down to enjoy! If it makes you feel better, the Waterstones website didn’t make it clear about the sprayed edges either. I feel as if my copy is truly embodying the spirit of the book anyway as the delivery guy left it under a hedge in the rain – I respect its resilience and will not be exchanging it!
Fabulous story, the book is like Maggie and refused to give up to the rain!
Lovely message. I’m in the UK. Bought the hardback with accidental plain edges but I stick with the “don’t judge a book by its cover” protocol. Loved it. Have the digital version also. Please just keep the books coming. If you’re able to send me the ebook Guide to KT that would be great but not essential.
Oh… and if anyone is sad because they read the book in a day and now need to either re-read old favourites or find something new… Rachel Aaron has just released “Death Has Joined the Party”. (A LitRPG novel). I haven’t finished it yet but so far so good. Will probably have to re-read all of the Inn Keeper books as a booster.
Things happen. . .be kind to yourself you are amazing! Also I am adoring Maggie so thank you so much for writing it!
I was one of the test readers, but did not get a (free) copy of the book. My email address has changed so that may be the problem.
I am really enjoying reading the final book and seeing the development!
Okay, so your UK publisher, your publicist team and finally you screwed up on whether one version of the book did or did not have a pattern sprayed on the page edges. Absolutely no issue with the printing or binding or – of course – the writing quality.
And you have drawn the error to everyone’s attention quite promptly, apologized, and suggested anyone deeply offended by the lack of patterns on the book edges return it for a refund.
Admirable. I have bought books in the past where sections were bound out of order or once where about a hundred pages in the middle were left out and replaced by a repeated section. No apology, refund or replacement.
So frankly, your customer service at this point is already well above industry standard. But to that you are adding a personal apology email and a free ebook to anyone affected!
All I can say is “Wow!”
Unfortunately, I am in Canada where we just get the standard American version with plain blue page edges anyway…
The irony is, I’m in the US, but I’ve been longing for the version that doesn’t have sprayed edges!
Very gracious of you to acknowledge your mistake under your best to make up for it. Everybody makes mistakes, but not everybody can be a good person about it.
No need to apologize. You have a lot on your plate. Things happens and the cover is really beautiful. One of my colleagues one time said that only people doing nothing never make mistakes.
I’ve just received the book and I haven’t noticed that the hardcover is different. I just want to start reading.
Enjoy your day!
I really wondered about this. I just got my Blackwells UK hardcover and the edges were white and I thought it was their fault or they were doing something wrong.
Thank you for this post. When my copy arrived with plain edges I thought this was an issue best raised with the publisher rather than wasting the authors time. I haven’t actually got round to doing so because as one other commenter has already said it is the content that matters. It is extremely generous of you to be offering us extras.
they are all beautiful. also, I just got to the part with the butcher and now I have to read it over from the beginning. which is ok too 😁
❤️ never apologise for your genius. It was the publisher‘s fault.
Love this book so much. Starting my reread and waiting on special edition to come in the mail. Thank you for the book, art, and all the extras
In everyone’s defense, we are not used to looking at purchasing books as if we’re buying clothes or furniture, with a side view. I wanted the Waterstone version, and when I started looking months ago, realized that I had a choice of three books, with only two having side view pictures (and even then, there was a wait list!). I am (still) waiting for my book to be delivered (although I think it’s in my country now). If it turns out I bought the wrong one – no matter, I just need to read it, the w*it has been killing me!
I am now so glad I made sure I bought a UK copy that showed sprayed edges in the pic. My International UK hardcover arrived yesterday and its so prettyyyy.
Ditto!
Maybe someone who ordered the Waterstones Special Edition can clear something up for me: I just got mine and it is lovely. However, I expected sprayed golden edges. Mine are definitely yellow, no gold in sight (I would have at least expected a slight metallic shimmer). Is that normal? Waterstones says it is and I can‘t go Check in a store since I live in Germany…
I just got mine today, ordered from Blackwell’s, had the right ISBN, said it was the Waterstone’s version.
Mine has the sprayed edges, and I think I see what you’re saying. The yellow/gold bits on mine are not metallic, but they do have a gradient shift from a darker yellow at the bottom and top, with a lighter yellow in the middle.
It does match the images in the previews, and it gives the impression that it is gold, while not actually being metallic. I can certainly see where looking at the image you would think it’s gold/metallic.
I’m honestly not sure what I thought it would be, but what I got does look like the picture, and I’m happy in the end.
Thank you so much!
I think I got lucky. I ordered my copy from Blackwell’s and it references Waterstones and uses the right ISBN. It’s being shipped to me in the US, and I don’t have it yet, so I guess I will find out for sure when it gets to me. *crosses fingers*
Same here, Chris – fingers crossed!
It actually was at my door when I got home, and it is the sprayed edges version. So, if you order from Blackwell’s and your order shows the ISBN from the post, you should be getting the sprayed edges, I think.
I should have known mine wouldn’t have sprayed edges as it didn’t show a side view, but that is not your fault.
I went and bought the ebook anyway because my hands were aching and holding the book was making them worse and there was no way I could wait to get started reading. 😁
Hello,
I bought the UK edition for the pretty edges for a friend from Amazon.co.uk. It will be delivered April 12th. I guess it won’t have the pretty edges based on ISBN. When you say to contact you by email, which email and is there a particular subject line you would like? My friend will be disappointed and I think the extra art will help. I’m just not sure the method of contact you wanted.
Also, I am confused. Are there still 2 different edged books in UK? One with Rosettes and one with a more
Geometric pattern? And where are each available?
It’s not your fault but I would still like to get my friend what she wanted. Sadly she doesn’t live close to me and neither of us live in the UK so returning doesn’t make financial sense. Sigh. Stuff happens.
Hi Kirsten, I will send you a private email too, you can contact me on modr@ilona-andrews.com if you don’t receive it.
There is one international UK copy which is the floral one, and can be found at the ISBN in the article from Blackwells and other retailers.
The geometric edges one is the Waterstones special edition, still from UK, only on the Waterstones website https://www.waterstones.com/books/search/term/this+kingdom+will+not+kill+me . Unfortunately, both signed and unsigned appear out of stock.
Heyho, I got hit by this too, but I really don’t think you should blame yourselves here. When I was on the pre-order page, the book was shown with sprayed edges. In my opinion, the responsibility clearly lies with the seller, who basically used misleading advertising.
What worries me a bit is that I immediately went ahead and placed another order here in Germany online with my local bookseller—the image again showed the same sprayed edges—and now I’m concerned that I might end up receiving another copy without them.
So for everyone in Germany ordering the book: maybe be smarter than me and check directly with your bookseller first🙈.
I love the book ❤️and have already been eagerly waiting for a special edition that I really like and can order, so from the start I was planning to buy another physical copy anyway. But having two normal copies that are completely identical would be a bit over the top 😅
I’d also like to thank you again for your fantastic work. I truly feel spoiled by all the extras and the effort you put into us. Thank you so, so much. And as always, stay healthy and take care of yourselves.
Wishing you all the best
drachenauge
You do get to be human, especially when swamped with work!
You are still the best and it’s the book content that will stay with us for years. Don’t let a little missing paint cause you stress!
Event+Response=Outcome
You couldn’t control the event, only your response—and thus, the outcome.
Your response here to the unintended event is *flawless*, and the outcome is, also, IMO.
If I wasn’t already a long-time fan and I read this blog post, this would have converted me. I would have been immediately won over by your integrity and the care you have and take with The BDH.
Y’all are my very favorite authors since I was 17 (Magic Bites had just been released; where does the time go?!) for so many reasons beyond just your amazing writing.
I’m confused. I purchased the Maggie book last week from Blackwells. It has the above ISBN number, so will I be getting the correct book with the printed edges? I’m guessing I will? 🤷🏼♀️ If it doesn’t it won’t be the end of the world. It’s not your fault this happened. I’m just happy to have the ebook (Which I’m currently rereading!) and am looking forward to a print copy. Thanks for all you do for us. ❤️
The right ISBN from the same website where people report getting the edges points to likely yes.
In case it is not, please let me know at modr@ilona-andrews.com.
Thanks, Mod R!
Yeah I have just received my Waterstones signed edition with the spayed edges. I got it through ABEBooks, I am in NZ
Don’t beat yourself too hard.
Love <3
No-one’s fault so no need for apologies and gifts.
I just thought I’d made a mistaken order, but quickly realised it would’ve been the only fancy edged book I owned and it’s not like I put ky books page outwards on my shelves so who’s seeing it anyway?
Much better to have a beautiful story than a beautiful book 😉
I bought ISBN 9781035089376 from Amazon and am waiting for it to arrive. I guess that would be the plain edge hardcover.
Could you confirm whether the International HB hardcover has been released? The release date for ISBN 9781037400674 is shown on multiple Australian websites (including Amazon) as July 14, 2026. I would really like to get my hands on this particular sprayed edge hardcover and will w*it if I have to but I wonder if it can be obtained now?
The only certain way is to contact the retailer and ask 🙂 .
We know people have ordered from Blackwell’s with ISBN 9781037400674 and have received the floral sprayed edges.
A earlier commenter received their Waterstones signed edition with the spayed edges (geometric design) from ABEBooks in NZ, for example.
Thanks, Mod R.
I’ve bought a copy of the floral sprayed edge hardcover from Blackwell’s the moment it came back in stock. It’s too pretty and I could not w*it 😅
Now I’ll have 2 copies… One to read and one to display. Hopefully vellum inserts will be available for purchase 😁 Though I’ve devoured it in ebook form, nothing beats being able to thumb through actual pages in search of a specific scene.
it takes a truly upstanding person to apologise when one could have just shrugged it off as a technical mistake.. I am really happy I’m a fan of your words and now of your character too!
Thank-you for being a person whose words and deeds are in accord and an inspiration too.
❤️💖♥️💖❤️
I am a UK reader and bought a hard copy…so beautiful …I did look at the Waterstones edition but decided against it. I wasn’t confused by your information, but even if I had been it’s not a major problem.
I rarely buy hard copies anymore…lack of space…but I made an exception for this book, such a good choice. I will be getting any companion books that come out, I cannot tell you how invested I am in this world.
Have to say though the cliff hanger took years of my life, waiting till the next book is not going to be easy! Though Maud and Arlands wedding…or the next Inheritance book…or anything else you care to make available will definitely help!
You are the bee’s knees. =)
I remember asking in a comment why there were two versions listed on the shop I used, one was £1 more expensive but same description.
wonder which one I’ll get?
I’m still patiently w*iting because I got it delivered to my local indie.
I’m sorry that happened. mistakes happen unfortunately. Hope you don’t get flak for it. I’d bet you guys will find a way to feel like you made it better for people. honestly, you do a lot for us. you’re appreciated… Mainly I wanted to say I thought it was cool/interesting that different author’s promote on the different edition’s covers. Which feels a little weird that I got so much out of it but whatever, barsa barsa + Thank you thank you thank you for Maggie.
I‘m in Germany. I got the UK Version without sprayed edges with Amazon.
I saw the other Version an mailed with ModR, but she Said, there is only one and that is why I orderd that one.
The Version with sprayed edges now was still available at my local bookstore to order but it takes 2 weeks for the delivery. I orderd it, because it is so shiny and Waterstones is sold out.
If it arrives, I will be happy and have a book I can give away as Gift to my Friends.
If not, the normal Version is beautiful, too.
Thank you for the clarification.
It is not your fault, on the Tor Website, there also are no information.
I think you are amazing and don’t need to apologise for no one or thing is perfect…It’is what’s inside that matters! That you apologise for a book with the wrong binding in the UK and then go to rectify it with giving away more of yourselves, it is testament to you.
Your books and words are enriched with love that you ooze into every page, your emotional intelligence is worth a PhD, and your ability to story tell is second to none.
You are genuinely quite an amazing couple, your writings echo your thoughts which are daring, caring and sharing, and ï feel every fibre of your being in those words. I have been reading your books from the beginning and even now my 60s still get excited when a new edition is coming out.
When you write, whether in your books or on the blog, ï feel every word, it is an incredible talent.
I am so lucky to have my escape and relaxation time filled with your wonderful words and characters who at times feel so real. Thank you for letting us into your world and creating such amazing places for us to escape to.
Carolyn Wilderspin (UK)
I had a very brief “aw shucks” moment when I opened the package, but assumed I had messed up. But the cover is still gorgeous and the story is fantastic…so its mine now, not giving it back. *hisses and runs away
Still looks phenomenal on my bookshelf. You take such incredible care of your fans and go above and beyond. Some newer to the BDH may be annoyed, but we know who you guys are as a team ❤️
Mistakes do happen, but I disagree that you are to blame. This is not even an attempt to blow smoke up your tail hehe. We all have eyes, and mine happen to function terribly; even in my hurry to order my copy, I made sure to pay close attention to the cover images. The UK cover doesn’t even show them! I kept clicking through Blackwell’s offerings until I found one that clearly displayed the sprayed edges. I’m all here for the honesty and responsibility taking, but paying attention to these sorts of things is basic consumerism. Please don’t feel too bad. The Horde will recover.
Some folks are saying the covers were mislabeled, so I am acknowledging this in a reply. I checked the ISBN for my order from Blackwell’s and luckily, it is the correct one. Encouraging others to check theirs as well. Maybe there is enough time left to cancel incorrect orders.
Thank you for your message and clarifying what happened. I bought mine from bookshop.org as I wanted to support independent sellers so mine has plain edges and I really don’t mind. For me personally it doesn’t matter at all, I am just DELIGHTED to have a new book from you to read and get lost in so please don’t beat yourself up about it. Thank you for all you do for us.
please don’t worry about it! tbh when mine arrived without the spray painted edges I just thought I’d misunderstood or made a mistake. it’s still a beautiful book design and obviously a great story! hope you’re able to rest after the tour
Hug. and another hug.
In my portal fantasy, HA writes and BDH researches/hassles vendors/finds workarounds for the editions we want. This = maximum books to devour. and BDH has have something to do, very chalantly, while we w*it. In fact, chasing editions could be a cunning plan to cut down on “when will the Adventures of Maggie and Sushi be available for preorder”.
Oh, thank you for clearing that up! I was a little surprised when I received my Waterstones special edition and the only difference to the regular edition I bought at the bookstore 10 days earlier was the signed page – but now it makes a lot more sense that the German bookstore is selling the international edition.
And can I just say that I love how much bookselling has changed over the last few years, that we get all these beautiful editions at the publication date, not just as special editions twenty years later? And in Europe, too, not just the US? I know it‘s not your doing, but for that reason alone I am grateful that Maggie went the traditional publication route 🙂
Hey Mai, this is not in relation to the Waterstones edition, but the Tor International edition.
Waterstones website clearly states for the signed edition “Signed Edition with exclusive patterned edges”.
I would get in touch with them to issue the correct one. I will email you directly as well to make sure this reaches you.
Ilona you do so much more for the BDH then most any other author does for their fans. Seriously. We love you for it. It means you should not feel so bad. You deserve grace. It’s okay. Nobody is dying. It’s just an honest mistake which is easy to understand given all you’ve got going on. People will deal. Virtual hugs. Thank you for all you guys do.
Thank you! I ordered from bookshop.org thinking I would get the sprayed edges. My new plan was to gift that copy to a friend and make a trip to Waterstones to buy the pretty. ☺️
I also gave my brother a US edition as a gift while visiting this week so I’m just doing a tour of all the covers.
Hi, my book has the plain edge but it’s the contents I’m interested in, so don’t worry x
Lord have mercy, the AI spam links above. What is this world coming to?
Aaaand, someone got to them before I could even comment!
Please do not engage with them. I will spam them as soon as I see them, but I do at times step away from the comments for brief periods 🙂.
Thank you for your understanding.
I was careful to keep my comment away from their potential threads, but I will refrain from comment in the future.
Thank you for clarifying this, the Horde loves you. We appreciate how lucky we are that you care so much for us and we love you!
Don’t beat yourself up, mistakes happen and (for those who can afford it and still want pretty edges), this is the perfect opportunity to introduce someone to House Andrews.
Also, is the blog pirated? Last four messages are suspicious…
The usual spam 🙂 I was having lunch and dealt with them asap.
Thanks Mod R! You are the the Queen of Mods!
Read my kindle copy, twice, then thought “I need a hard copy so I can go to different sections more easily,” so bought a hard copy at Barnes &Noble. Sitting at breakfast, opened the book and there’s no Table of Contents. Just a “Praise for …” page, the title page, publishing deets page, dedication, map, and right into it – Part I Bag of Money. Is this right? Or did the printer mess up?? There’s a ToC on my Kindle version. My apologies if this has already been addressed.
The TOC in the Kindle copy is hyperlinked 🙂 There print copy does not have hyperlinks, so it was not included.
Omg,omg, omg! I got an Owlcrate sub for April for Maggie! I’m so excited! This was the copy I was hoping for, so I held out on the waitlist and it came through!
I got and read the Kindle version, but I’m looking forward to seeing this big, beautiful book in color with all the lovely pictures! *swoon*
💃🥳💃
Outland has it in Norway
So, even with the isbn, I can’t find the floral sprayed version anywhere–and it was the only variant so far that I wanted. I also got to this update a day later than most–I don’t check the blog, directly, only the emails. I am at a loss as to what to do right now and would appreciate any advice.
Hi Georgene, without knowing where you are in the world and what you are searching for in terms of retailers, I’m afraid I cannot assist.
If you search the ISBN 9781037400674 on your preferred search engine, it should bring up available listings in your local market. If it’s not showing, it may be sold out or limited to certain retailers.
I’d recommend checking major booksellers in your country or contacting your preferred store/indie bookstore directly to see if they can source it for you 🙂
Thank you for the quick reply. I’m in the US and have a proxy in the UK. I have been searching what I can with the isbn, but every site I find is sold out. I don’t believe any of my locals could source internationally? 🤔
Ilona, Thank you for letting me/us know what happened. I really appreciate it. I ordered it for my birthday. Your book is the first time a main character and I have shared a first name! I’m silly about! I can return it to Amazon UK and found a Waterson’s copy from one of our own BDH members on eBay! BDH Unite! It will be here soon. You and Gordon are so well-loved and your crafts unparalleled and across all your work. Thank you for all these remarkable worlds, textured stories and fully lived lives where we are invited to immerse ourselves. Please don’t hold on to this long. It was a mistake and part of being human. Thank you! With love, Maggie
I ordered mine from Waterstones UK and my sprayed edges look nothing like the ones you have here. Mine is more like two linked reversed heart shaped scrolls with a chequered board break between each scroll and not a white flower in sight. Never mind I have a copy although I’m sad I missed out on the Autographed one as was sold out by the time I was able to order.
Hi Susan, yes, you have the Waterstones own special edition edges 🙂.
This is in relation to the Tor international hardcover edges.
Yes it is, note self, next time get on the Waterstones site faster to not miss out on the Autographed one😊😊
I have just found outBlackwell has the other version off the sprayed edge but it’s sold out now. I’m more than happy I was able to get my book at all. Thank you for a brilliant new series looking forward to book two. .Susan
I am very angry with amazon. I ordered the sprayed edged copy at the beginning of march as soon as it was possible. they told me I would get it april the second. I was so excited. and then april the second the suddenly told me they got my order and I will receive an email when it will again be available. So where did all the copies go? I am still not able to read your new book in germany because I can only order it by kindle. but I want the whole experience with a book in my hands. I don’t know when I will be able to enjoy your new book and so I am left to read your other great stories again . I try to avoid all the spoilers. 😉
I hope you will get it soon!
Pfff, it is just an excuse to buy another copy of the hard back – uk customer who owns one with edges and one without. Don’t sweat it, these things happy
Waterstones are just amazing to deal with as a customer. Thank you so much for signing the special editions
Congratulations on the release doing well, and you have survived the book tour. Rest, recharge, a holiday perhaps? You have worked so hard and Maggie is a triumph of a book.
Thank you to Mod R and the rest of the moderators for all they do to solve problems, wrangle to hoard and write us great funnies
This happened to me as well. I thought I was ordering both sprayed edges versions from Waterstones, even had some conversations with the customer services before I ordered. They were clueless to the situation as well apparently. So now I have the plain edge UK and the Waterstones signed.
By prayed edge UK versions, I mean the edition shown in this post with the pretty flowery abstract with gold design and the Waterstones exclusive. I wanted to see both versions in person, but let’s be honest, I would have kept both! I am still trying to find the International version. I haven’t given up hope! Thanks to the horde for posting the ISBN.
Don’t beat yourself up for being human!
Hi Kelly, I have added you to the list and apologies again 🙂
There was a very interesting article in the New York Times in December about fancy versions of books, and how options have recently exploded. They had pictures of the printing/manufacturing process. Article is behind a paywall, so Mod R can delete this post if not appropriate.
NY Times, 27 Dec 2024: The Hottest Trend in Publishing: Books You Can Judge by Their Cover, subtitled “Elaborately designed books with patterned edges and other effects started as a trend in romance and fantasy, and have now spread throughout the publishing industry.”
Aww. You guys are the best. We are your devoted Horde and your infrequent mistakes are very minor wrinkles in our existence. Fret not!
Huh. I understood the Waterstones edition to be the special sprayed edges and never had it confused for the other plain-edged edition. So the descriptions must have been accurate somewhere.
I ordered mine through Amazon UK but I don’t mind that it’s the plain one. I also got the Imagine Books version as well so alls well.
