You haven’t posted. Did something bad happen?
Margaret
Why do you guys always assume that something bad happened? 🙂
Nothing bad happened. We are just super busy. We are having some work done on the house, which means bids and estimates, we are going to KissCon in New England this weekend, and we are trying to write the best we can. We are also working on some extras for the holidays for you.
On Friday we went furniture shopping. Our local furniture store, North Carolina Furniture, had this amazing mattress in stock. Laying on it was like sleeping on an imaginary cloud. The real cloud would be cold and wet and not very supportive, but this mattress is exact opposite. But the mattress was also hellishly expensive. I looked at the price tag and blinked.
On Friday, I get a call from our furniture dude, Kim.
Kim, in a clandestine voice: Mrs. Andrews, do you remember that mattress you looked at and said, “Maybe for Christmas?
Me, wondering why I am suddenly in a James Bond movie: Yes?
Kim, still in spy voice: They have it on sale 70% off. Everyone is calling their clients to let them know.
Me: !!! We’ll take it!!!
Kim the Furniture Spy: Very good. I’ll put the SOLD tag on it for you.
So we got to the furniture store. We walk in, stop at the reception, and ask for Kim. A nice lady pages him and then looks at us, claps her hands together, and says, “Every time I see you, I keep thinking I know you from somewhere.”
Me: Um… We come here a lot.
Gordon: Yes, we buy a lot of furniture.
Lady: I finally figured it out. You’re those writers. You’re Ilona Andrews.
So shout out to the nice lady who blew our secret cover at North Carolina Furniture.
We are now the proud owners of a new, greatly discounted mattress.
After the furniture shopping, we drove down to Gruene Door, which is a small but very nice restaurant in a neighboring town. We sat outside – it wasn’t sweltering! – and had a nice dinner. Then we came home and played video games. And that’s why there was no post on Friday.

Comfortable mattresses are critical! Glad you got a great one. And thanks for working on the something special for the holidays. Can’t wait

So happy for you! A good night’s sleep is a blessing.
CharisN says
What a nice profile picture!
Katherine Meservy says
Congrats on discounted furniture! I don’t know how you feel about being recognized but for me it would be a mixed reaction. I hope your trip and con both happen with no drama.
Allison says
A most excellent reason for no post!
Cheryl M says
Well, glad you had a great day on Friday! Also, if you do not mind, what bran is the mattress? I’m looking, and I’m pretty sure I have the hubby convinced we need a new one. He’s sure that every mattress SHOULD last 20 years. I believe 15 is MORE than long enough.
Vinity says
I’d like to know too. We’re looking for mattress.
Kelticat says
My sister is convinced that mattresses last 5 years. Meanwhile my mom slept on the same mattress for roughly 50 years. It crunched when my ex-brother-in-law and I were moving it into the garage to make room for the hospital bed that she needed.
Katerina says
It looks like you had a great time on Friday!
Your posts are always very interesting. I can and will wait for days for anything you are willing to post on the blog…
Heather Langston says
I am very happy that you are now sleeping on a not-like-a-real-cloud, greatly discounted mattress- comfort is SO important to good sleep.
I do have to ask though, what video games did you play? I’m currently alternating between “Greedfall” on my PS4 and “Borderlands 3” on my Xbox One…and fretting that my gaming time will be further divided when “The Outer Worlds” hits this weekend.
What should I be doing? Working on my business or chemistry homework (because these things are a LOT harder when you’re 48 years old).
Enjoy, be well, and cannot wait for holiday goodies from you guys!
Catlover says
Time for yourselves! A good night’s sleep is very important and sets the morning mood!
Keera says
Sounds like a great Friday! Hope the rest of the weekend went well and those storms missed you guys.
Lmh says

You all have had so much drama going on that a nice “normal” day is long overdue. Shout out to Kim the Furniture Spy! Nothing like saving 70%!
Emily says
Glad you had a great day, take more breaks and enjoy the little things in life
LynnL says
We like the Grist Mill in Gruene too(pronounced “green” for y’all not Texans)
Tink says
And how do you Texans get Green out of Gruene?
sarafina says
It’s the original German pronunciation.
Tylikcat says
Ooo! What did you get?
(I am still super excited about my latex and organic cotton and wool mattress – but mostly because it’s a latex mattress, but it’s not *too* firm, and it’s bouncy and supportive and it didn’t break the bank! …I think I’ve figured out how to handle the guest bed situation, but my sister having to cancel her visit meant I got to put it off.)
Breann says
I love my latex pillow! I think I’d have to do a lot of sweet talking to convince my husband to get a latex mattress (he really dislikes my pillow), but I think it sounds wonderful! ????
Amanda P says
Fantastic, I’m pleased you had lovely day and have an amazing new mattress
Tori O says
What I read:
You guys botched your secret mission into the spy facility that uses a furniture store as a cover. Brandi and the animals had to come save you. Your cover is blown. Back home licking your wounds on a comfy mattress you snagged on the way out.
The end. ????
Patricia Schlorke says
At least Cornelius and the ferrets didn’t have to join Brandi in the hunt. ????????
Tori O says
Plot twist: Cornelius is Brandi’s secret identity. ????
I’m prepping for NaNo and trying to plot my story. Everything is fair game right now, lol.
Mimi says
Congratulations on the 70% off and the excellent evening!
Jennifer says
Love it! I love video games and a great discount for something you thought you couldn’t afford. The question I always have is what did you play? If you don’t mind me asking.
Barbara says
Love the cloud, aclaracion…er aclaration? Explanation? Fact? Anyway, once I walked through a cloud a real one, in El Yunque(rain forest from hell, the gorgeous part of hell I guess but I was out of shape), and yes, no suport at all and if you are thirsty because you forgot to bring water to a hiking, it helps taking your tongue out cause water lol
Sorry they blew your cover, but yay about the deal! I love deals. I actually need a new mattress and is a pity I won’t be getting one with such a discount.
Elisabeth says
Didn’t you say that you will take a time out? I assumed you’ll post when you feel like it. I still assume it. Enjoy your dlsleep and dream on your personal cloud ????
JoAnne says
See that is what comes from spoiling your readers. We worry. Glad to hear life is going well both personally and professionally. Enjoy your trip this weekend. Sorry I am not in the area to come by and see you, but I am sure plenty of fans will be there in my place. 😉
Toni says
If my husband is 5 minutes late from work I think he’s been in a horrible wreck and I’m ready to sit in a dark room with my black shroud, like an Italian widow.
If you don’t post for longer than 3 days I imagine that you’ve been swept away in a flash flood, I’ll no longer get new favorite books, and I’m ready to sit in a dark room with my black shroud, like an Italian widow.
Jan Tucker says
Enjoy your mattress and moments of nice normal life ????
Breann says
Whoo hoo for sales! A new mattress is a wonderful thing (especially at 70% off!).
Sounds like you two had a wonderful day and I’m really happy for you!
Also, yay for holiday surprises! ????
Joylyn says
I am very happy that you had a nice, relaxing weekend and can look forward to many wonderful nights of rest on your new mattress!
Dianne Richardson says
I don’t understand why people don’t get that you have a life outside of your books…I love your books and the worlds you write about. But come on people use a little common sense. “it seems to be a thing of the past” But they must realize that you have a life outside of writing the books that we all love and want more of but it takes time and effort on your part. But you also have a life to live or you couldn’t write all of those wonderful books. Give them a break fans it will pay off in the end when we do get another book.
Danielle says
I did not even notice that you had not posted in a while. There was a snippet recently. Right? The teachers are on strike, with no end in sight. Things are a little hectic here right now as a result.
RabidReader says
Hurray! You deserve great sales and a quiet, relaxing day. Don’t mind us, we’re unhealthily needy. We need to work on that.
Natalie says
What would be the title of your James Bond mattress buying movie ????. This seems to be the time of year for house work for y’all. Hope everything goes efficiently.
Kelticat says
Rest in pieces (if you disturb me) for a 007ish title.
FoodieNinja says
And that is how Kim the Furniture Guy became a character in a future book. 🙂
Bonnie says
You are entitled to days without posting. Glad you found the mattress.
Nothing better than good sleep. Hope you have a wonderful weekend
at KissCon.
Pat Sciarini says
Well, you are forgiven of course! Enjoy your sleeping cloud and your day out!

Years ago I worked in a local clinic treating, ah, ailments of an intimate and contagious nature. When folks in town would say “Hey, don’t I know you?” I’d give them a level stare and a minute to ponder then assure them that NO, I just have one of those faces. Lots of confused looks from significant others but never blew my cover.
Michelle says
Talk about a score! Sales are the best!!
Demi says
Congratulations to your cloudlike new and very discounted mattress 🙂 good things do happen 🙂

People might assume something happened because the world is just such a clusterf*ck lately.
Mary Ellen says
Glad you got the mattress. My family loves eating at the Grune Door!
Dave Sperry says
Note for future reference: you NEVER buy a mattress that isn’t on sale!
Annamarie Schmidt says
Aaaaannd just like that Oct. is Mattress month! Mine developed a canteloupe sixed hole before it’s 2nd birthday, and since new glasses AND property taxes were a MUST I also looked around……got 55% off, and could use $117 in gift cards from a funny little part time job that pays that way…….woo hoo!!! I could almost afford it!
Donna Stegman says
My Polish grandmother always said, “Buy the best mattress and the best quality shoes you can afford. Because if you don’t, your whole life will suffer.” She also said things that embarrassed me in front of my friends like, “Eat your onions, they clean the blood!” and my absolute favorite, “You can’t buy those underwear, you need a good cotton crotch that lets air in…” But funny enough, as an adult, I realize she was always right! lol
Cherylanne says
Sorry but thanx. Saw that freaking Dallas tornado giant hail 65000 peeps with no power and sent you thoughts of science backup files and emergency personal generators.
Susan says
I think this is super funny. I am glad that you have your mattress cloud!
Rossana says
So happy for you!
Enjoy sleeping on the cloud and safe travels this weekend!
VeronicaK says
Huh, I always assume you’re busy if you don’t post. Friday sounds awesome. 70% off a great mattress would make my day!
Maria R. says
Lol, new mattress with cloud like feel and busted (in a good way). Food and drinks must have helped.
Ami says
I’m totally jealous of your mattress and SO happy for you!!
I completely understand being busy. I noticed y’all were quiet and went “I hope they’re just busy and not sick/burnt out/anything bad happening”. Bc 1. I like you guys and 2. I have a completely selfish and very vested interest in you remaining happy, healthy and productive b/c I’m a book drug addict and you’re my favorite dealer. lol But I wasn’t going to bug you with it in case you were busy and I added to the problem by writing thus increasing the risk of burn out. LOL I have issues, we know. My therapist says I’m making good progress tho…. *its something*
I’m going to stop talking now and go back to my schoolwork. Grad school is kicking my butt.
njb says
Sounds like a great day! Glad you both had a day off with good food, entertainment and a fine sale on something you wanted! Enjoy your weekend out of Texas, too!
And oooooooooh, potential holiday goodies for the BDH!!! Yea us!
Connie says
Congratulations on the mattress! Lol. Enjoy KissCon, it is great that you are visiting New England. I won’t be there as it is still a bit far away but you are getting closer! Maybe someday I will be able to attend a signing.
Dawn says
The leaves should be at peak in New England next weekend. And there is a massive and glorious Dale Chiluly glass sculpture there. Every time I go there now, not for gambling, but the restaurants are amazing, I think about Rohan destroying it. Have a great time!
