Some emails create a false equivalency between Hidden Legacy and Elizabeth Gilbert’s book, which was set in Russia. She pulled the book.
On June 12th Ms Gilbert postponed indefinitely the publication of a novel, “The Snow Forest”, after hundreds of angry posts on Goodreads, a review site, mainly from Ukrainians. They object to the fact that the novel is set in Russia, in a religious-fundamentalist community in Soviet-era Siberia

Ms. Gilbert’s situation is different. I can’t speak to her motives. And yes, Hidden Legacy does feature a completely alternative world Russia with the monarchy still intact.
We don’t live in that world. This is not fiction. This is real life. The city Prigozhin occupied was the city I grew up in.
I understand that some of you are upset because a book you want isn’t being written, but in this, real world Russia, my 40 year old brother received a draft notice last week.
