From Ilona Andrews, #1 New York Times bestselling author, the thrilling conclusion to her Hidden Legacy series, as Nevada and Rogan grapple with a power beyond even their imagination…

Nevada Baylor can’t decide which is more frustrating—harnessing her truthseeker abilities or dealing with Connor “Mad” Rogan and their evolving relationship. Yes, the billionaire Prime is helping her navigate the complex magical world in which she’s become a crucial player—and sometimes a pawn—but she also has to deal with his ex-fiancée, whose husband has disappeared, and whose damsel-in-distress act is wearing very, very thin.

Rogan faces his own challenges, too, as Nevada’s magical rank has made her a desirable match for other Primes. Controlling his immense powers is child’s play next to controlling his conflicting emotions. And now he and Nevada are confronted by a new threat within her own family. Can they face this together? Or is their world about to go up in smoke?

I love Nevada’s family dynamic. Some of my favorite scenes between the two books are when the whole family is in the kitchen–their banter is priceless. Every character is unique, funny, and relatable.

My favorite thing about Hidden Legacy, well there’s actually more than one, but it’s how you can actually relate to the characters. Yes I don’t have magic, but they comment that Nevada made in Burn For Me about being upset with yourself resonates across. You do a wonderful job of connecting us to the characters.

  12. EMEM says

I actually have several favorites, world building, family dynamics for two. But if I have to pick one, it’s the fact this is taking place in my town, Houston.

I really love the characters, you truly made them your own. I love Nevada and Conner. Also the world building and plot line is different (unique) compared to other books I have read. I think you mentioned before that Wildfire will be the last book in this series, but I hope it continues! Or at least release a full book from Conner’s pov. Much love for this book series!!!:)

  17. Cerulean says

I love your world-building, Nevada’s strong family ties (love Grandma Frieda!), and especially the relationship of snark and respect and equality between Nevada and Rogan. They both have their strengths that complement each other. They can trade times they’re “in charge” because they respect each other’s strengths while they can recognize and accept their own “weaknesses”. That’s pretty rare.

  18. Emily says

I like the Baylor family. They are a great bunch of supporting characters; especially grandma.

My favorite thing in Hidden Legacy, as in your other books, is the main female character.
Nevada is so strong, she is smart, she doesn’t accept bull**** from anyone!!! She’s proud of who she is, she doesn’t need other’s money, se cannot be bought! that is SO amazing.
I usually don’t like female leads because they are shallow, but Nevada is AWESOME.
and of course I can’t forget the fact that she has an awesome family!!! i love the bond between them all!

Thank you for creating an character that I actually want to read more, instead of only reading because of the loverboys! haha

I love the family interactions and relationships. The world itself is so awesome I want more stories in it but the Baylor family just makes me want to hang at their warehouse for the entertainment factor.

  21. Cate says

The novelty of the Hidden Legacy world and the great family dynamics woven into the story lines.

  22. Jean-ann Stump says

It’s hard to pick just one thing that I love about the Hidden Legacy series. I have read and reread the first two books several times. If I had to pick just one thing I think it would have to be Nevada’s family. I Love the Baylors. They are the kind of family that we all want. They tease each other and argue but whenever there is a crisis they know that they can count on each other.

Too many favorite things to pick just one. Love the series so far and can’t wait for more. My favorite thing would be hearing that there will be (a lot) more books to come after wildfire. Want more Nevada, Rogan, and the family!

I love the way the magic works, and the history of it. The characters are another highlight.

Oh, and the ferret heist. Absolute favorite thing in White Hot. Laundry vents, hehe.

I can’t think of just one thing. Grandma builds tanks. Mom is a sniper. Cousins are techno geeks. Sisters are rock solid support even when it costs them, Rogan and Nevada are the strong leads. What’s not to like?

    July 14, 2017 at 11:14 am

It’s hard to pick just one thing – I’ll list my top favs- in no particular order:
Family dynamic – it’s AWESOME. I read a ton of Urban fantasy and paranormal romance and so very often either the MC is alone or side characters are fairly one dimensional or stereotyped. Love love LOVE the family interactions.

The way Rogan and Nevada communicate. They ACTUALLY communicate. It drives me crazy in other novels when characters don’t communicate (mostly for no other reason then all their problems would be solved if they did and then where would the story be)

Nevada’s self esteem. That scene in Burn for Me when Rogan is confused about Nevada’s reaction to Harper – YES! ” power punch for women everywhere!”

I could go on on an on… love this series!!

  44. Gillian says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:14 am

    I like the world-building. It’s so interesting!
    Also, the Baylor’s. They’re lovely.

It’s my opinion that the story Of Swine and Roses leads into the Nevada series. I liked OSaR and have enjoyed reading the expanded version of the world. You always create very engaging characters and I love your world-building. I love all your books. 😀

  46. Dawn says

I love the world building and of course the characters. What I love the most is that I can re-read the series any time and it will always put me in a good mood. Which means a lot. Thank you.

  50. Dianne says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:16 am

Read the first one. Want to read the 2nd one SO BAD, but know if I get it now I’ll break down & read it now (as opposed to having both 2 & 3 to read up in the mountains for vacation). Am counting the days…

  52. Sarah K says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:16 am

I have to pick only one thing?! How about the writing? lol The world is immersive and interesting. I love the characters and interactions. The last pages of the books keep me immersed in the world when I lift my eyes from the page.

  53. Apothecary says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:16 am

All of the book, but if I had to choose one thing its the relationship between Nevada and Connor, how she rescues him, and understands the damage of being at war has inflicted on him, no wonder he adores her.

  54. Heather says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:16 am

My favorite thing about the series is the relationship between Nevada and Rogan. They are such entertaining characters.

  55. Bridget Marchione says

  56. Nancy Gilliland says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:17 am

I love everything about this series, but mostly I love the interaction between Nevada and Rogan…she doesn’t back down when she is right, Nd Rogan gives her the respect and support she deserves.

  57. Chris says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:17 am

I like the family relationships, especially the banter.

  58. Christine says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:17 am

I really like the development of Rogan’s character and how you come to find out how deeply he cares for those he’s allowed into his circle, and how much they care for him.

I also love how Nevada is a strong woman who doesn’t need to be rescued! So often, when a woman goes looking for advice from a man in her life, he thinks she needs rescuing, when in reality, she just needs a sounding board or another point of view of a situation.

  59. Virginia Maestas says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:18 am

Favorite is the family relationship in the Baylor family – everyone stands up for each other and is their support system

  60. PyeCat says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:18 am

What’s my favorite thing about the Hidden Legacy series?

It’s not that it takes place in Houston. I lived there, and it’s fun to imagine the chaos, but no.

The rich world-building is way up on the list. The ways magic did and did not affect the world (and the discussion of just how much one change diverts a parallel history sneaked into ‘White Hot’ was great), how the Houses fit into society (tech allegory, maybe?), and how people with powerful abilities conceal as much as possible, are all logical and well-constructed.

The family dynamics — the contrast of Nevada’s family to the Houses — is just a notch higher.

My favorite thing is embodied in the name of the series: Hidden Legacy. Someone who was no-one is shaking up how a few key Primes see themselves and the world, and it will be a change for the better. I like that hope.

  61. Moira says

  64. Becca says

  65. Alison says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:18 am

I absolutely love the world building and the snarky/witty dialogue among all the characters, but especially among Nevada’s family

  66. Jessica says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:18 am

My favorite thing about Hidden Legacy was how family oriented Nevada is – you don’t realize how many stories have no sense of family love. It makes me smile and want to annoy my brothers every time I reread it.

  67. Sarah says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:19 am

While Nevada is cool, I love Rogan! I hope we get more POVs from Gordon just cuz I can’t get enough of Mad Rogan. He is what first drew me to the series. The guy cracks me up, and I love his and Nevada’s relationship. I also love the Baylor family, and the world building in HL has been fantastic. It’s actually what led me to giving Kate Daniels a try which I also now love as well.

  68. JMH says

can’t await the third book of your Hidden Legacy Story! Love the books especially for your character-concepts und your sense of humor. Every time I read them I can’t put them aside until I’m ready with reading them.
So..well, I can’t nominate “the” favorite thing of Hidden Legacy. I think it’s the interaction of all details, that generally make all of your books great.
Thanks for kidnapping us to the worlds of your storylines.

I’m sorry, I can’t have just one favorite. It’s the characters, it’s the blood and gore action scenes, it’s the ‘how in the FRAK do they keep coming up with these incredible worlds? All of them. All of your series are unique and just plain outstanding.

  77. Kim R. says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:20 am

First, I love the well written characters. I absolutely adore Nevada and her family!! The plot and all the secondary characters that I can’t wait to read about. Second, I quite enjoy the not perfect “fall in love story”. I can’t wait for Wildfire to come out!!

  78. Edward says

Realistic human reactions and an understanding and in depth portrayal of veterans. It is rare to find literature with a character who I can relate to as a veteran. Struggling with PTSD is difficult without seeing nuanced examples in culture. Thank you for producing a work that combines epic magic with realistic romance to create a true story of human interaction in a fictional world.

  79. Jane says

My favourite part is definitely Grandma Frieda, hands down.

  80. Christina says

    July 14, 2017 at 11:21 am

I like the way you characterize Rogan as a dragon. I associated him very strongly with Curran but less and less as he devloped into a “dragon” personality as opposed to a slightly (?) psycho lion.

I love all the Ilona Andrews books and have read and reread them multiple times. I’m very much looking forward to Wildfire because I’ve really enjoyed the Hidden Legacy series and want to see the next step. As with every book this team has written, I immediately preorder without looking at the price. I know it will be a keeper and certainly hope the adventure continues beyond the third book. Strong female lead with creative and intriguing supporting characters. If this isn’t where to post please let me know. But I’m getting the book regardless.

I LOVE how invested I am in each character. No one is a throwaway and I want to know everyone’s backstory.

Most of all, I love how Nevada is a straight up bad ass, but it isn’t shoved in your face on every page. She has morals and sticks to a code and she isn’t rude or condescending. She does what needs to be done so that at the end of the day, she can go home and look her family in the face.

Favorite thing? Definitely the relationships between the characters – familial, romantic, and otherwise. Nevada’s character is so tied to the relationships that she has with those around her, which makes her a believable and authentic person. This also makes the evolution of her relationship with Rogan so amazing to read.

Love them! Pick me please! I’m in vacation the 19th – 24th and go back to work on the 25th and will be a zombie if I have to stay up to the wee hours to try to read it when it comes out (or be a waste at work as I sneak off to the restroom over and over to get in a few pages)

The writing – all of it. Yes this is a make believe world but the writing brings the characters alive. The dialogue and the emotions make these people and their lives very realistic and compelling.

And I like how people don’t just fall head over heals for each other and jump into bed the moment they meet. Don’t get me wrong, I read a lot of romance novels where this happens and I like them as well but with Hidden Legacy (and all of your books) characters like Nevada and Connor really get to know each other first before they are all like “I love you I cant live without you” Your writing is just so much more real than most. Nothing ever feels forced but seems like a nice natural progression.

It helps me make it through. Non-essential spending is basically eliminated from my budget right now but I have 2 authors that I make sure I purchase when new books are released and you are one of them (along with Anne Bishop in case you were curious). I love that Nevada works to improve her magic and use it wisely rather than taking short cuts or letting Rogan save the day. I Love the world building, the way the world of the Houses feels almost feudal or medieval. It shouldn’t work so well with the other elements of modern society, like the independent and strong women, who are soldiers, PIs, villains and monsters. A lot of underhanded feminism, I come to realise. Anyway, you make it work, that’s really great!

The family dynamics are so true to life – the love and respect, but also the relentless teasing. At the end of the first book, I struggled with Rogan as a hero – like Nevada, he didn’t seem human enough. But the second book did a great job showing his vulnerabilities. Not just his strengths but his weaknesses.

I love how the family sticks together and always steps up when the sh!t hits the fan. All of the members think about what is truly right, and what would be best for the family, instead of just themselves. Even the younger teens so this when things get crucial.

I also love how they are teaching Rogan what family is and money/power never trumps love, faithfulness and integrity. There is humor, sadness, tragedy, redemption… All classic Ilona Andrews character/story traits

Hmmm. Let’s see. Grandma is hilarious. Rogan is awesome. I love how strong Nevada is. How she’s not perfect, how she doesn’t really have a defensive or offensive gift but turns it into a shield and a weapon anyway. How she owns her guilt but doesn’t constantly whine about how poor her, everything is her fault. How she doesn’t say things like she shoots like a man. How awesome of a shot she is. How she can be in shock and traumatized but if someone else needs her, she manages to do what’s necessary, even if she’s not “strong” in the doing. How she takes care of her family when she doesn’t have to. How she doesn’t make autocratic decisions for them either. She brings them into the discussion, into the choice. I love Nevada.

My favorite things about the Hidden Legacy series are the laugh-out-loud humor and the strength and depth of the family and romantic bonds. I have a friend who’s extricating himself from an abusive relationship, and I keep wanting to reference Rogan as a healthier example of what it SHOULD be like to be in a relationship with a more culturally and financially powerful partner. Seeeee how he wants her to make her own choices, and is aware of what she may give up by choosing him? Seeee how he’s a crazy alpha-hole, kind of, but doesn’t hold money over her head? Yeah. That’s good. This real-life guy – he’s bad.

To reference another art form, I’ve suggested using “What Would Lucille Bluth Do” as a nice guiding measure for dealing with this yucky ex. Worst case scenario, martinis and hilarity.

I love how future House Baylor takes the tropes of detective work and deconstructs them. The bad guys are smart, they good guys are just better. Many authors who are good at this in the finished manuscript, show rough drafts and they are a mess. It takes very good story teller props *AND* research and commitment to quality to preform quality rewrites. So far White Hot (reading for the 10th time) shows Avon made an awesome call when it allowed such strong writers the time to do the finished manuscript right.

I love all of Hidden Legacy, but my favorite aspect is the relationships the characters have with each other. Of course, there is Nevada at the center with her family as well as with Rogan. I enjoy reading about Nevada as she navigates her PI business and balances it with the fact that her “employees” are her family members. But I also like Rogan’s relationships to other people. We were introduced to Tony in the first book and it was awesome to see him again in White Hot, even if it was under fire.

My favorite scene is when Nevada throws the chalk at Rogan after he critiques her circle work in Burn for Me. I still chuckle every time I read it. It embodies pretty much all of the relationships the characters have – they do things to help the people they care for even though it gets them nothing but lip in return.

I have been an avid reader of you since Magic Strikes. I have read EVERYTHING you have published and on release day i wait until midnight to get my kindle and not sleep. This has been my pattern for years. My ex husband and I have long chats about your worlds and characters (we had a huge fight about Kates knee XD) and I started reading while we drive to work to my BF. I have to say I have my favorites on the different series…. but Nevada… she is special.
Back to when i was first starting on your worlds i read “from swine and roses” it is my FAVORITE piece from all time, i read it at least 5 times a year and always wished you wrote more from it… and then YOU DID! Can you imagine? I could barely contain myself when Burn for me came out, i have read it at least 4 times by now (please keep in mind i read a lot and have tons of series that i am onto right now for example i just finished dune -took me too long i know- and i just finished speaker for the dead), but never never would i be able to go thru a day without reading something from one of your worlds.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So yeah im rambling: your books are my favorite, you are my favorite authors from the whole world and Nevada has a very special place in my heard because if comes from a world i have dreamed of for years since you published in your page for free “from swine and roses” (cameo anybody? can you at some point mix some of that in so i can die in peace knowing what happened?)
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Love you and some day ill get the money to travel to the US and thank you personally for what your books have meant on my life.

I’ve been quite apprehensive at first when I found out that the Hidden Legacy series is attached to Avon imprint considering they have a specific romance audience and preference which is why I was worried whether it would do well. In fact, I do feel it strange getting Burn For Me in Kinokuniya’s Romance section surrounded by bodice rippers rather than hanging out at the usual Science Fiction and Fantasy section with the rest of the Andrews’ series. I certainly don’t enjoy the long years in between Burn For Me and White Hot; but thankfully I found something similar to the chemistry between Nevada and Connor with Mass Effect trilogy’s Shepard and Kaidan. I find its interesting that both series helped me understand each other’s characters better. How Connor’s mind work, and how his abilities affected the people around him and make him the person he is. How Nevada despite her best intentions, she have too much principles within herself that at times it got herself into a lot of trouble and somehow I do feel like she made a better detective than Kate in all her intellectual glory. And I love all their families and laughed and love their familiarity with each other. Which is part why I love all leads especially female characters by the Andrews, they’re all distinct and unique with their own voices and characterization which is fun to empathize with and experience their lives and hardships.

I also like how there’s some remnants from Kinsmen series which I enjoyed; about having different houses with different abilities amidst fantastical elements and abilities. There’s also social and class structures within mages themselves and I like how there’s corporate elements which lend the relatable feel of realism rather than dystopian. As well as the overarching mystery and conspiracy which is intriguing by itself. Either way I can’t wait to read the next installment.

Love the fact that you don’t sugar coat the effect that war/combat can have on people. This is an issue that often times gets neglected in fiction and adds a gritty realism to the characters as well as shedding light on an oft ignored problem.

Just as many others have said, it is hard to pick just one thing to say that I like about this series. I love so much about it… Nevada’s family and the unique mix of personalities (esp. Grandma), the world building you’re so great at, as well as the evolving dynamic between Nevada and Rohan. They really challenge and complement each other, making it fun see what’s next. Can’t wait to read Wildfire. Thank you so much for the great stories you tell!!

The banter. It has to be the banter. Snappy and snarky at all the right times, the back and forth between the various characters is always entertaining and quite often vastly amusing. The quick replies, the pointed digs, the hidden passion, the not so hidden anger, and in general the assorted conversational gambits.

I LOVE the magic systems, the different kinds of magic users etc of the Hidden Legacy series -you know, the whole world-building aspect. But more than that, I absolutely love Nevada’s character. It is hard to find such sensible heroines in Urban Fantasy She is calm, collected, logical and knows when to act and when to back off. She is a mature one-of-a-kind heroine I LOVE to read about.

Another of my favourite aspects of this series is the family bond. Nevada’s family is so close and tight-knit( not counting evil grandma). That kind of family attachment and bonding, again is hard to find in books these days.

I like that the characters are centered and confident in what they are, but can still learn, grow or change their minds. The feeling of being epic and yet personal, with all of the emotions – happy, sad, humor, anger… My favorite scene so far is the ferret break in, though. I really like the humor in your books.

Plus, since I grew up in Houston, it is fun to see the references to places that I know. (Which is a bonus since I now live in Atlanta)

Not unlike Leon’s homework assignment in book 2! My favorite thing about the Hidden Legacy series is the humor throughout, even in darker moments, and the strength Nevada draws from her entire family. Are they targets for her enemies? Maybe, but they’ll do anything for Nevada and most of all, each one is absolutely competent and even deadly. No ‘oh, Nevada’s poor helpless family is her Achilles heel’, no ma’am. They stand with her and beside her, and are the strength behind her and all that she does.

Sure, that and the burning chemistry between Nevada and Rogan ?

My favorite parts of the Hidden Legacy series are the relationships. First off, the slow burn, combatative to reluctant attraction romance. It’s delightful and Mad Rogan is a compelling frightning character and I love it.

Nevada’s relationship with her family and her family itself is delightful and I love getting to know her siblings and cousins more as the series goes on.

Lastly is Nevada’s relationship with her magic. She’s growing and learning and beginning to understand that she has to carve her way in a world where magical might is right and she’s losing a part of herself just to survive. Watching her grow is so awesome. Watching her grow with Rogan at her back and her colorful cast of family and friends watching the two of them setting off Sparks? It’s THE BEST!!!!

Thanks so much for the opportunity! I’d probably expire from happiness if I won, lol. ?

It’s difficult to choose a favourite moment, so ill give you the one that I love, it’s when Adam Pierce says that he would like to do nasty things to Nevada only to correct himself and say “with you” and Nevada thinks “nice catch”. So many “romances” confuse passion with ownership and dominance, this was the moment I again knew I was in the right place, to have my romance and still feel like a respected female. My deepest congratulations on the great reviews and the hype, I can only say: you guys deserve them and more.

I really like Nevada’s determination and struggle to do what’s right for her family and her principles and I look forward to seeing how that works as an official Prime.

I love the worldbuilding with all its politics and the different kinds of magic – it’s different to a lot of things I’ve read (as pretty much all your stuff is).

I love Nevada’s family – their personalities and their bonds. They leap of the page as much as Nevada and help you to understand and love her character.

As always, the humour and emotional impact of your writing is spot on and keeps me coming back for more…once I actually manage to put it down.

I absolutely love this series. The magic system is so well developed and fascinating. It’s different from most other fantasies I’ve read and I love it.

For me, the real selling point is the characters and their development. I love that Nevada is not just some damsel in distress, but a strong character in her own right that can be an equal to Connor. In my opinion there aren’t enough romances with strong female leads, thank you so much for writing this series and these characters. First of all: thank you for this giveaway. You’re awesome!

My favourite thing about Hidden Legacy is the strong female lead surrounded by more strong female characters. Nevada is not afraid to tackle difficult situations on her own, but also never afraid to admit when she needs help. And I don’t only mean ‘physical’ help, but also emotional one. I know from personal experience how hard it can be to emotionally unload and just admit to being weak or unsure about something. I also kinda love her stubborn streak as I can relate so that as well. 😉 In the background is Nevada’s family as her backbone as well as her weakness. Another thing I find very realistic. Nevada together with her awesome family (I loooove her grandmother, mother and sisters as well as her cousins) is the heart and soul of these books.
(And of course I would never forget Connor ‘Mad’ Rogan. Which woman could ever forget the dragon? 😀 )

The other thing I love about this series is that Nevada is not afraid to do whatever it takes to protect not her family and the business but still has her bounderies which she is not willing to cross if it isn’t truly necessary. The thing that I love the most about the Hidden Legacy books is the magic infused alternate history that Ilona Andrews has created for this world. I also love the humor, the snarky dialogue between the male and female characters, the fact that Nevada seems to be a fully developed believable character (and not an idiot like so many female protagonists in urban fantasy these days), and the fact that Rogan’s history damaged him and that the damage makes him more real but also more deadly. The depth of the research that this writing team puts into all the details just appeals to me. You can never guess which odd pantheon or obscure folklore will appear in a book. I like using Google earth to visualize the places in the books. I could continue to gush all day. I have a Wildfire widget on my desktop counting the days until July 25, 2017! I enjoy the world you’ve created–if magic existed in modern society, I’m sure the same kind of power struggles would exist in society as they do in your books. Nevada’s criticisms of prime society as a group of ruthless and out for themselves power-mongers is a reflection of the way the wealthy stomp on those they deem lesser than themselves just to get ahead every day.
I love that Nevada’s love for her family is the most important thing in her life; everything else is secondary.

What I like best about Hidden Legacy is the relationships and how you show that all relationships, whether family or romantic, require some work and give and take and understanding of the other persons personality. A lot of books do not show that. The humor is probably the second thing I like the best. Holy crap! How long has this post been up? It’s already up to nearly 300 comments! Stupid work getting in the way of everything.

I love the family interactions in this series. The Kate series is how a family that you build interacts with each other, but Hidden Legacy shows how the family you were born into can be so damn annoying, not give you respect or fear you, and yet totally have your back when someone comes at you. Nevada’s family is weird but loving and I can’t wait to see how Connor reacts to them as Nevada brings him into the family.

I love everything about the series. The characters are realistic and grow as the series progress – learning to adapt to whatever is challenging them. The world-building draws you in and makes you think that this society could actually exist somewhere (and makes me wish I could live there). The laugh-out-loud banter between characters makes it a delight to read!

And, of course, another fave aspect of this series is Nevada and Rogan’s insanely hot chemistry! And the cool magic system and world-building! Okay, so I pretty much love everything about the Hidden Legacy series and can’t choose just one thing.

    Dear Authorlords,
I love your characters. They all have so much heart and are very relatable. They are funny, witty, they brave all storms and yet they also deal with mortgages and family death and it leaves them scarred – as it should be. Nevadas dads treatment left them all with emotional baggage. But not just so we have a quick pity story, but rather it makes the characters grow because of it. Even if they still need time with grandma Frida, if they feel down. They are just so well rounded and while I don’t live in a paranormal world, they still are very relatable and no princesses and dragon slayers who have more heroic deeds in their cv, than possible emotions.

On the other hand, I can’t guess how your story will continue. I have a general idea, but you usually surprise me with story twists or new characters. And I love how unpredictable it is.

This could go on and on and on about your world-building, Nevadas horrible attempts on circle work, your excellent humour, the many pets, the humanity you show us in possibly crazy people and evil grandmas and on and on and on… so i will just continue to read your work with awe and hope that you will have the opportunity to tell us many more stories!

I know this is marketed as romance, but my favorite thing about Hidden Legacy is Nevada’s family. They aren’t in every scene, and sometimes the younger ones can be annoying, but they are ultimately there for each other and their shenanigans are always fun. My favorite part of Hidden Legacy (and Innkeeper and Kate) is the community building. Nevada is surrounded by a loving family and each member supports her and benefits from her support in return. They are all fully – realized characters, not blanks designed to drive a plot point. In addition to the blood ties, there are also those that she has adopted into her community, like Cornelius. It makes her a much more complex, interesting and relatable hero as well as fleshing out her world to the point where you want to become part of it yourself.

There is a lot I love about the series. The world design is, again, wonderfully intriguing. There continues to be more and more we learn about the characters each book (what exactly IS Leon’s ability, and how will the two sisters’ powers come out to the public). The research that goes into little details (Chicago fire), and yet is different than other series by you (unlike Kate, no Russian influence). The action scenes, the strong characters, even the interesting supporting characters. LOVE IT and want more than 3 books in this world.

I suppose my favourite thing in the novels is Nevada and her sass- I love that none of Ilona/ Andrew’s female characters are just flimsy females- their strength of will, determination and badassery ( yep I lay claim to that neologism!) keep me hooked and Nevada is no exception. Nevada isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty- work hard and ask difficult questions of “colourful” people.

Now I’m waiting to find out more about Leon and Arabella’s magic; how Penelope hurt her knee in the Army (and how she lost her PI license). I’m also hoping to learn more about Bern and Leon’s mother and fathers in Wildfire. It’s the little details and mysteries that make a book delicious.

So much to love about the whole series! I am an SFF & mystery reader from way back, and added romance to the mix when I grew up. I read for story, and relationships (romantic, platonic, and familial) add depth to story. The dialog is fun, the humor is contagious, and the characters are people I would like to have in my corner when trouble strikes. Plus, one of the other things I like about all things Andrews is your attention to detail when worldbuilding, and the subtle way you convey the information we need to appreciate what’s happening.

I loved learning about Rogan’s back story. Why he is the way he is and what makes his people so loyal to him. He was an interesting character in the first book and the chemistry between Him and Nevada was off the charts awesome, but this book made me really appreciate his motivations. I also loved the tease about the sister’s talents as well as learning more about the society that Nevada is shortly going to have to learn to function in. In my experience when a first book is great a lot of the time the second can be s bit of s letdown, this is definitely not the case with really any of Ilona Andrews series they are all a captivating read from word one of any of her books.

I love the magic system!! I have always thought mental magic got short shrift in fantasy series (especially mental magic other than hearing thoughts and illusion magic) even though it would be super useful in any modern society. So, as impressive as Rogan is, I absolutely ADORE Nevada (and her sisters!) and BUG! Also the shockers are super cool!

I also think that the authors (consistently but also in this series) do a really great job integrating magic into society, and considering the implications of that, which is why Rafael has a salvage business in the middle of a city and the houses negotiate with the US government. It’s great and is part of why I come back so consistently to these worlds.

The family dynamic. It is hilarious….”if only I had some adolescents”…the love, the humor that all comes from this family Baylor. 4 teenagers who aren’t afraid of death and know how to shoot properly, Grandma Frida…..just all the touches are perfect. Don’t get me wrong, I adore the Nevada and Rogan dance, but at the heart, it is the family. Uncle Rogan is going to be awesome. Thank you for the absolute delight that I have had from this series.

The favorites of many readers, are a given for me, i.e. world building, character development, character relationships and snarky dialog. I expect that in every Andrew’s book. What I like best, and Ray said it before me, is the surprise on almost every page. What is going to happen around the next corner? And, to be sure, it wasn’t what I expected.

The best part for me is the secondary/ tertiary characters; their reactions give more depth to characters and make it very clear that things are not happening in a vacuum. I am, of course, still waiting for the wife’s reaction to Troy going in for a job interview and coming home with a broken leg. The dress shop scene was good but I am fairly sure a certain dog is going have a partner real soon.

What’s not to love! But if I have to pick one thing, it is how much I can relate to the characters and how real they feel to me. There are characters you read about and love the idea of said character, and then there are characters that you ‘meet’. You get to know them and experience things with them, grow with them, and by the end if the book they’ve essentially become a friend and a part of your life. It happened in their Kate Daniels and Edge series and they did it again with Nevada and Rogan. This to me is one of many favorite things I love about Hidden Legacy.

My favorite aspect of Hidden Legacy is the maturity Nevada shows. A lot of reviewers usually call it character growth, but Nevada didn’t start out as a know-it-all who had to learn to accept help. She already did that, it was learning to trust and have faith in someone outside her family structure that was hard for her. She listens to advice and takes it when it makes sense and that’s why I love her.

It’s almost too difficult to name one favorite thing. Of course I love the emerging relationship between Nevada and Rogan, but I also love the new and different types of magic. All the specialties of the different houses. I love that in the two books released so far, the uber bad guys got their due. I love Rogan’s protective nature toward Nevada, even though she doesn’t like it. Ok, I could fill this box with much more, but I’ll cut it off here. Sigh.

    hi
if i had choose my favourite thing ( and it’s almost impossible) it has to be the fact that the book has so many strong female characters ranging from Nevada to her sisters, mother and grandmothers (yes even EG – she’s awful but strong) to Leonora. Even strong female villains – and they don’t even feel the need to don an almost not there sexy bond girl dress to do it (well, except for Harper in book 1). It’s nice to see women dealing with their own problems and not expecting to be rescued the whole time. Of course, the plots are fantastic too as is the writing!

Although Nevada resists Rogan’s efforts to protect her and hers, she has the flexibility to acknowledge and accept its necessity and we are not wasting plot time with her going on a “strong, independent woman being undermined by a man” tangent (which usually ends with the strong, independent woman needing to be rescued). And she shows every sign that she in turn is going to foil Connor’s effort to sacrifice their happiness for the sake of improving her strategic position in the inter-family political structure.

I love the romance that has evolved between Nevarda and Rogan and the fact that he allows her room to breathe. The dynamics of her family probably confused him in the beginning, but I get the feeling that he really wants to be part of the family chaos.

Hi, There are so many things that I love about the Hidden Legacy Series, but my favorite thing comes at the end.

I love the mysterious and diverse abilities that the characters possess. I love the sense of humor that accompanies serious interactions and grants the narrative levity. I love the title, and how appropriately it ties to the story.

But, above all, I love Nevada’s character and find her very relatable. Like her, I have many responsibilities, and I sympathize with the struggle she goes through every single time she finds herself at crossroads and has to choose the more difficult, but correct, path. I wish I could be half as kick-ass as she is.

Out of all your awesome characters – and I have read all of your works till date (with the exception of one novella I couldn’t get my hands on *I live in India*) – I relate to Nevada the most. That’s what my favorite in this series. ?

In “Burn For Me”, the discussion when Rogan talks about Harper Larvo as a “failed vector” is so evocative.

The idea of her grandfather as a power, but her line a failure, with nothing she do about it, no act she can perform that improves her lot, no skill or learning, nothing, was so starkly cutting. Rarely do you get to see the other side of an inheritance based society spelled out so well.

It made her character extremely well-drawn in a the space of a few paragraphs, and made me wonder how stable Prime society might be with that sort of underside to it.

She’s tough, loves her family – adore them, adore their weaknesses, quirks, strengths, teamwork, and love for each other – and she’s got realistic traits good, less good, and other. Funny thing, her life is a bit of a fantasy; but while she shows appreciation for the wonderful things in her life I haven’t yet seen her truly understand how lucky she is, at least not in the first two books. I love absolutely everything about this series. The characters, their problems, the family dynamic, the low simmering and then explosive love life? Gahhh! Love it. The dialogue in this book and the interaction of the characters is soooooo realistic! It sucks me in every time! Freaking love everything the duo Ilona Andrews have written and I own dual copies of hardback and ebooks because I just need to have instant access whenever I feel like rereading – which I reread several times a year!

I enjoyed the Hidden Legacy series a lot more than I initially expected, since I prefer the fantasy/sci-fi genre to romance. BUT!!! I’m hooked. I liked the new world of magic and the primes. I liked the new characters. As an aside, one of the best things about Ilona and Gordon’s writing is that the characters are unique. You don’t look at the Kate Daniels supporting cast and say, oh yeah, so and so is just like Spider from the Edge series.

Anyhow, my favorite thing about these books is the main character. Nevada is smart, strong, loves her family and has cool super powers. What’s not to like? And, sure. Rogan is fun too.

  438. Diana says

    July 14, 2017 at 12:45 pm

I love the world building, particularly the way the hidden legacy world is in someways our own and in others radically changed by the presence of magic. I thought the scene with school assignment looking at the influence of magic on history was a fantastic touch.

Favorite is difficult, but the contrast of Nevada’s ethics and the overall ethics lacking in the world of the Primes underscores a discrepancy I wish more people would factor into their real world decision making. Also, Rogan’s independent, tough-minded standards, flouting convention and standing as a defender of people who are wronged, not explaining or defending, just getting it done-that works for me. Combined, Nevada and Rogan will be an incredible force for the good guys.

I changed my mind… Honestly its just the fact that Nevada doesnt take any crap. Too often romance and genres like paranormal romance have heroines that are pushovers and melt at the sight of a hot guy. Why are they in love? Because they saw the guy and in 1 second omg-this-is-the-hottest-guy-I’ve-ever-seen-im-helpless. Its really annoying and has ruined books for me. Romances should be built on actually have two characters connect on a personality level, and Hidden Legacy (and your books in general) deliver on that 🙂

The world – I really enjoy how you built it with the magic houses. I love the family dynamics with the Baylors. The slow build between Rogan and Nevada. How Rogan grew so much from royal ass to decent human being. How Rogan saves and values his people. Nevada’s ability and her drive to learn how to use it. The pied piper, wow…. I could go on and on. My favorite about Hidden Legacy is that it makes sense. You built a world around a fun fact (aka the Osiris Serum) and everything develops logically from there. You do explain everything and you write relateable characters. Heck, I’ve come to like Mad Rogan whom I thought to be a jackass after reading Burn for me. And Nevada is cool, doesn’t act dumb and I never want to smack her for behaving like a lovestruck ninny*. She knows her worth and sticks to herself and her… I’d call it moral code. The scene where he kidnaps her – other authors would have turned it into a “hot dominant alpha guy and kickass girl turned sex kitten thing have to obey their instincts and make out” scene. You didn’t and wrote it better. I love your strong female characters and your awesome male protagonists. After White Hot even Mad Rogan. I can’ t wait to see how it turns out. If I don’t win, I just want to thank you for making a difference in UF.

Hmmm…dunno much about mom…she’s not really there enough. The suspense, the drama, the romance? Yeah, those get me, too. The main problem with your books? They pull me in too fast, and before I know it…it’s over. I’ve read it from cover to cover in the (metaphorically speaking) blink of an eye. And, they always leave me wanting more!…more!…more! And with those few snippets to whet my appetite, I can hardly wait for Wildfire to be out.

    Hi,
I love the world-building, the humorous interactions that follow the serious scenes and grant some levity whenever needed. I love the narrative, the diverse powers, characters and romance.
I love the title of the series, and how it ties to the story at different levels.
But my most favorite is the fact that I can relate to Nevada as I have never been able to with any other character I have read till date.
Please don’t get me wrong, I have read and re-read all of your works till date -(with the exception of a short story, I haven’t been able to get my hands on it yet)- and I love all your characters and stories and connect with all of them.

However, Nevada’s responsibilities, how they affect her decisions, how they weigh on her, how she struggles to do the right thing and how she more than survives, I can sympathize with it.

In all of the top favorites stories of mine, the main characters often live alone/don’t have family/move away etc. In others, it’s not discussed in as much detail. (The Edge series had this element too, to some level. Hidden Legacy takes it a step further.) ?

Nevada loves her family and accepts them, sacrifices for them and they accept and support her. I relate to her the most and wish I could be half as kick-ass as she is. ?

One thing?! Everything and everyone in the series. If I have to narrow it down? Rogan. Why? He is very complex. One moment he’s the badass protector who gets his way with everything and everyone except Nevada, Nevada’s mom, and Grandma Frida; the next moment he takes the time to “rescue” someone who’s ex-military to incorporate him or her into his private army. Nevada’s family!! I love the bonds between them and the portrayal of strong female characters despite their age. They are role models to their children and siblings regardless of gender.

Omg. Best part…. the fact that Nevada has her own secrets and is capable on her own. Everyone assumes she is working for some party or paired with someone, but she has her own ideas and agenda.

I read the first book and loved the family interaction scenes. It seems silly but it shows exactly what Nevada protects by keeping her powers secret. It’s not just about herself.

My favorite thing about the Hidden Legacy series – i gotta say its the strong family theme throughout the books!!! I love Nevada Baylor and her loyalty and protectiveness to her family – makes me root for her all the time! I’m a huge fan of Bern and Leon, Grandma Frida, Catalina and Arabella – how they are all such a strong family unit. Penelope too. Go House Baylor!! Fingers crossed I win this – I cannot Wait for Wildfire to come out!!!!

If I had to choose only one thing, it would be how different this series seems to be from a lot of the other books in this genre. I remember when I first read Burn For Me, I was in a bit of a new book slump, & Burn For Me was like a breath of fresh air.

Your characters are amazing but here, besides the obvious story line I must admit that I love Grandma Frida. I love her obsession with photos of famous men and social media, her fantastic sense of humor and the fact that she can see what no one else has seen yet. I hope one day to read all those wonderful secrets she´s been hiding.

Thanks for this amazing giveaway ! English is not my motherlanguage so I hope you’ll understand this comment ^^
It’s hard to choose what I like the most in the Hidden Legacy series ^^’ I guess I like the worldbuilding and the background of the story the most : different types of magics, the Houses, different laws, even Leon’s homework… It felt “real” as if it truely exists in an alternative universe. The way you describe, the lack of illogical things (at least, I didn’t notice any holes), the details… it makes Hidden Legacy’s world feel “real” so I can actually read and.. escape to that universe (hope it makes any sense…).
I also like the action scenes -as previously said in another comment-, the way it is written : dynamic, like you’re seeing it in front of you.
I also love Nevada’s family, their bond, the way they interact and work. And Rogan.
To put it in a nutshell : the world and its characters *cough -everything- cough*

I really enjoyed the first book! It was refreshing having a main character call the male lead out on his overbearing, sociopathic tendencies. Since Twilight became so popular, it’s become a staple for creepy shit to be romantic.

Only to win an early copy would I reveal this – I completely related to Nevada not noticing she was a prime. I had an IQ test when I entered a new school in 5th grade. My parents chose not to share. When I found the report in my 30s my reaction was – “Why didn’t you tell me I was smart. I might have done something important with my life.” (I did go to MIT & I did manage to do a couple of things I was proud of so I’m not really sure what I was thinking with my reaction either . . .)

Through kidnappings, fights, arguments, lectures etc. You can’t ignore how good these two are together. Just love it! Thanks for giving us an opportunity to win a Wildfire book!
