Magic Triumphs has been pushed to August 28th.
I am going to die!
Eventually everyone does.
But why?
Biology is a bitch.
No, I meant why was the book moved?
It works better in that slot with their scheduling. It’s the final book. They want to get their mileage out of it. They want to do promo, etc. They informed us it would likely be moved this summer, actually. They just didn’t know the exact date. They are also giving us a generous stretch for revisions. Since this is the final book, everyone is trying to make sure it doesn’t suck.
You didn’t tell us!
There is no point in saying anything until the final date is announced.
You are always late.
Nope. In 10 years and 21 books, we’ve been late exactly twice. The other times were the result of publisher’s wishes, otherwise known as circumstances beyond our control.
But I’m going to die!
Look, Jim Butcher’s latest has been delayed by three years or so, and his fans are still alive.
But I don’t like it.
::shrug:: Would it help if I told you a spoiler? Muhahahahahaha! Rocks fall. Everyone dies. 😛
I am going to write you a fussy email.
Eh.
You don’t seem to care.
Look at it this way: we take deadlines seriously. When Gordon’s father died, when kids were sick, when extended family was in trouble, when I ended up in ER, the books were delivered on time. This deadline was fluid, because it was mostly the matter of finishing a ten year series well. The publisher knew this from the start and they let us know from the start that they would like a large stretch of time to promote the release. I think it’s lovely that it’s coming out this year. I expected 2019, actually. Writing fussy emails won’t make the publisher move the date earlier. It will just make Brandi the assistant send you back a form response.
#
On a side note – and I am not going to speak for Gordon here, just for myself – I’ve worked really hard for this past decade and I’ve learned that if things can go one of two ways when the book is difficult to write. A) I run myself into the ground and the book is delivered on time. B) I take extra time to finish the book and the book is delayed.
Option B doesn’t really hurt anyone. The readers end up waiting a little longer, and it is unfortunate. It’s inconvenient. But in the end, it’s just a book, it is eventually released, and people get to read it. Our payment is delayed, but what are you going to do?
Option A means my personal life suffers, my health suffers, and my productivity takes a nose dive for weeks after the book is delivered. I realize that a lot of readers are only interested in the books and they don’t really care about the author, but given that I’m the author, I care. 😉
I’m pretty much done with option A.
This book concludes our contract with Ace, so we’ll be free agents as of acceptance of this manuscript and will move on to other projects, possibly self-published, possibly not. We will, as always, update you to the best of our ability on any changes to the schedule, but please be aware that while we will strive to meet whatever deadlines we set or our future publisher sets, delays will occur, especially if further work on the book is necessary. 🙂
ybell says
Thank you in advance! I am sure it is going to be another great book! Can’t wait 🙂
Zirraella says
Hugh?
Victoria says
Haha. #truth about Jim Butcher. Happened with Laurell K Hamilton. I am a still alive and happily waiting for all new books! ?
Michelle says
I appreciate so much the world you’ve created and the fabulous characters. Whenever I can’t stand my world I escape to Kate’s. So … If I have to wait a little longer, that just gives me the opportunity to go back to my favorite moments one more time. Thank you for writing and I’m looking forward to any future work you will create!!!
Marilyn says
Ditto
Tiffany Crystal says
I am 100% okay with option B, especially when it comes to your health. I’d rather wait longer at less personal expense to you, than getting the book NOW and having you guys suffer for it. Take care of yourself ♥
Mel says
As long as I get to read it someday . . . I will survive! Love love love your work ( ALL of it ) and this just gives me a chance you re-read x3 ( yay more Kate! ). I’d rather have you healthy and sane and wait a little bit for a release then have you burnout or lose your work entirely.
Bibliovore says
It’s all cool with me. Amazon had already informed me of the new date. I figure that y’all have gotten to the first draft and the rest will happen when it happens. I just need a little notice to take the day off to consume the book.
I await this publication when it is ready. With the care put into it to make sure the series ends properly. Until then, I have other stuff to read or reread.
Tink says
Got the same notice. I thought it was a quick response since you turned in the manuscript this week, so I was thinking it was a long book and the publishers figured they’d need more time. Didn’t consider their schedule at all.
It’s all good. Now I know what day to schedule off from work. ?
Chris T. says
Now I can schedule my rereading of the books 1-9 plus the extras! Going to be a great summer. Hope you are settling into your new home.
Karen says
I for one am glad you’re taking care of yourself! Author care = more future books. ?
Amanda says
I for one would much rather have happy, healthy Authorlords and an occasional release delay.
Zealith says
I’m just happy you’re finished the series. The number of series I’ve loved that were never finished is too high.
Take all the time you need to write your book, I’ll just be happy to read it when it is finished.
Robin says
I think you chose wisely when you decided option A wasn’t really an option. You need to do what’s right for yourselves. Sone of us readers just aren’t patient about getting your good books.
Randy says
Thanks for the heads up. I always prefer option B so that the book turns out the best it can be. And your books always seem to be the best they can be. Thank you for the books you write and to Renee for narrating them. I look forward to more from both of you.
M says
Thank you!! And may your tour take you to places that are cooler and less humid than Texas in August.
Vala says
I’m happy to wait if it means saving your sanity and you having the time to do it rite. We want you writing for a long time! It will also give me plenty of time to read the series all over again. I’ll live!
Deva says
We love you guys regardless!
NicoleAllee says
The book comes out this year? That’s great news!
Thanks for creating many of my favorite worlds, characters, and interactions.
And, should you continue to write in this world, and should you decide offstage Kate and Curran need triplets, I’m happy to consult. 🙂
Trisha says
Your books are worth waiting for. Is it disappointing, yes. But no one will die from anticipation. Thank you for all that you and Gordon do. Regardless of what anyone else says, what you do is greatly appreciated. You are both amazing and talented authors and I’m the lucky one to benefit from your talent.
jonescy says
Without you, there are no books. It’s amazing how the two of you managed to finish the book on time with everything you went through in 2017. You’re fabulous!
For readers who can’t wait a few extra months to get the final Kate Daniels book should spend the time re-reading the series as well as reading all of your other books. That should keep them busy and make the time fly by!
By the way, LOVING the latest Innkeeper installments <3
Roberta says
We’ll live! Happy healthy authorlords write more books and in the meantime we have Maud!!!
Kara Rogers says
All good! I’m positive it will be worth the wait. And you can celebrate the release by coming to DragonCon!
Ruth Ray says
A delay that saves your health and sanity is very acceptable. It’s better than Martin’s Fire and Ice series. And the BDH is gnawing on the latest Innkeeper. Have a good first year in the new home with the magnificent office.
Colleen Whitley says
Thanks for the explanation. As you so clearly put better a late book than a beloved author burns out.
Melissa M says
Thank you for all your efforts over the years. Thank you for sharing your gift with us and letting us join you in the worlds you create. Thank you for introducing us to some truly incredible characters and inviting us to follow along on their journeys. I can’t imagine the pressure that comes to bear when trying to wrap up a series of this magnitude. Whenever it is released, I will be standing by with my Audible pre-order, gleefully waiting for the download.
Shawn says
Take option B always. I would rather you took your time and I had to wait, and also know that you are still in good health at the end. Thank you for your hard efforts. I look forward to many more books from you in the coming years…even if I don’t like THIS one ending (want more Kate! and more Derek!).
Cassandra says
Thanks for looking after yourselves so that we get future books 🙂 and giving us more time to re-read the series before Kate 10 comes out!
Omar Mtz says
The best option is always to take care of yourself and your family, and I as a reader support that you guys chose that.
Question. Why were you in the ER?
Scott Drummond says
Thanks for everything you all write! It’s been such a blast and I see much more fun in the future! I’m very happy for you moving into your new home!
Pat says
Taking care of yourself is always more important. Thanks for the update.
JenMo says
I actually have a friend who legit worries about authors dying before series finish. Though to my knowledge she hasn’t experienced it. I know she didn’t read Wheel Of Time. Anxiety is weird.
I’m cool with this, and I’ll help her through it as well.
I prefer happy healthy authors. So whatever it takes. ?
Michelle K says
I will wait as patiently for you as I have waited for Jim Butcher, and it will be worth the wait!
FBR says
I know I’m just a random fan on the internet, but I’d 100% rather you late and healthy than pushing yourself more than is wise. And to the selfish people, I would remind them they wont get /any/ new books if you kill yourself getting out this one.
Thank you for the decade of delightful entertainment.
Alex R. says
Who else gives a rip about the readers more than you guys?
Pretty much no one. Yes, we will survive.
However, it wouldn’t hurt to get snippets every now and again. Of anything. Get Gordon cracking on some more POV’s, darn it!
Storm Rise says
LOL! I’m totally selfish, and want to be enjoying your and your hubbies books for the next, oh- I don’t know, 100 years sounds about right, so take your time, stay well, healthy and happy, and I’ll be waiting happily for the next installment of anything, really 🙂 Besides- it’s time I got back out to the workshop myself and made some goodies! Torches to flame, hammers to pound and all that 😉
xox
Amanda H says
As I read this post, I feel terrible that this is something that you believe you even need to post. I’ve waited many years for books from different authors: Jim Butcher, Robin McKinley, George R.R. Martin, and Stephen King. But I have never felt any need to write them a fussy email, letter, or note. Writing is work, hard work, which is evidenced in your blogs and many other writer blogs and webpages. Impatience has become a hallmark of our society, and I am sorry that you ever get messages that complain about delays. As one of your Horde, please accept my apology for those insensitive whiners, and know that everything you give us is completely worth the wait.
Michelle says
^^^^^^^^^^ x10000000000000
Cheryl Anne farley says
Thank you guys for such wonderful work. Take care of your sweet selves and if people but you why send them to me. Bwahahaha. I just re read the entire edge series and enjoyed it. Your books are so rich with content and details and that comes from quality thought and pacing. Carry on.
Toni says
Ha! I actually thought the first part was a conversation with you and the publisher.
Can’t wait. Already bought my copy.
Harukogirl says
Thanks! Weirdly, I’m happy about the delay. I’m not ready to say good bye yet! Time to start my re-read.
Alisa Hylton says
I’ll be glad to get it whenever it gets here. I’ll love it. Please keep yourselves well.
Mary says
Thank you! The anticipation is great, but I appreciate all the books, whenever they arrive.
Annamal says
yeah I figured it would probably get pushed back, you guys had a pretty packed schedule last year and a stressful house-buy/sale/move (not to mention the fact that politics in America seem to be having a nasty mental impact on a lot of creators in the US).
I really look forward to seeing what you guys get up to next and I hope you continue to prioritise your health and well-being.
Beth says
Thank you ?. Love you guys, seriously. Be well, your whole family.
Jean-ann Stump says
I don’t care how long i have to wait. Please just keep writing. I can’t live without your books.
Maria says
I am very OK with the writing process of the books I love not causing harm to those who write them.!! I am just happy to get them.
What I love about you guys is that I know. I sincerely hope that Jim Butcher will be able to finish the Dresden files and continues the Cinder Spires. They are great books and I miss them.
In the meantime we have Maud keeping us company, a possible Hugh book.. And let’s face it anticipation is good too.
Either way I am happy! Plus I can reread!!
Maria
Rae says
As with most, I’m forever grateful for you both and all of your hard work. Particularly all you do for your fans. I for one don’t mind the anticipation and being it’s the final in my very favorite series, I too wish to draw it out? Love and peace to you! And happy belated New Year! ??
Julie says
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for all your effort on such a wonderful series. Ps. I’m super excited that there is a release date… I’ll be able to plan a few days off of work. Waiting sucks, but who cares I’ll wait years for good things. Am I sad at all, maybe a little. Only because I have so enjoyed this series and don’t want to let it go. I won’t be letting it go. I’m sure it’s going to be on my re-read list as always. Thank you again, and best wishes on whatever you may see fit to write and publish.
Susan says
Sweeties, considering that all of us what the next book the minute we are done with that current book, we all know we have to possess our souls in patients and just wait for the magic to happen. Personally, I won’t be getting a snippy email from me, and neither will your publisher. I will wait and be happy to see your wonderful finished product. Do not run your health into the ground for us. We wiill still be here no matter what.
Val says
What’s the big deal? August 28th is less that two years since Magic Binds was published. That is not an unreasonable length of time between books in a series. I blame Nora Roberts. She’s a total sweetheart but good Lord that woman is a machine.
Monica says
When I saw the email notice from Amazon today my exact thought was “Eh I’ll have to change the date on my Google calender.” I think we are just lucky enough to have a date. I remember reading Green Rider and giving up on new books as a kid only to find out there were finally new books when I got my kindle. You guys shouldn’t have to justify it to us as readers.
PS because of the new date I’ll be able to take off the day to read it. May is too busy with school end of year activities. So thank you and to Ace for the move.
Cerulean says
I am so happy that you’ve decided to prioritize health and happiness. That is what’s important and almost all of your fans and people who truly care about you both (and kids) will be happy for you.
Brandi says
So I am just completely stoked that it is this year. I completely expected 2019 as well. You both put out so many quality books in such short periods of time from the last that I am amazed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Connie says
I don’t care as long as everything comes together.
Jackie says
What she said. Oh, and happy completed book. And I like having the next book done as soon as possible, given that the authors survive to write the next next book.
Laurie says
I waited 2/3 years for Nevada and Rogan and I didn’t die. I’d rather wait and have you both happy, healthy and productive. I’ve come to the conclusion I will read anything you’ll write and deal with the wait.
Raye says
What she said ??. We love you both
Jen says
I want the book to be amazing, so i am ok with waiting. And THANK YOU. I have enjoyed the series so much.
Ariana says
Option B all the way! I care about your health ’cause I don’t just want one book, I want all you can do and have it done well, not rushed (as usual)! If it takes more time than so be it. Looking forward to more Innkeeper, more Nevada, and any new stuff that grows out of your imaginations, creativity, and amazing storytelling! 🙂
Court says
Ditto!
Katie says
Aaarrrgggghhhh!!! Lol! In all seriousness your need for a good work life balance for exceeds any frustrations on my part, but waiting a full 3 years for the next Dresden book has caused a couple of stomach pangs.?
Claudia says
Sorry to hear anyone is complaining about the delay. Seems to me that Option B is a no-brainer – personally speaking, I’m glad you and the publisher are taking the time to do the book justice, without you and Gordon being run to the ground!
Jael says
Because of grad school, I’m actually a few books behind. This gives me some time to play catch up!
One thing that I’ve learned is that self care is so important. I’m always happy to wait if it means you guys can take care of yourselves.
Marnie says
Do we want it fast or do we want it good? Good please.
KR says
I’m in no rush for the series to be over. Take all the time you need. 😀
Nickole195 says
Sad panda
But as Gloria Gaynor said – I will survive.
Lou says
Very sad to know the pleasure of reading the book is delayed but as it can’t be helped we’ll just have to deal. :). Still looking forward to it. Hope it gives you time to settle in and create new things!
Andrea Roe says
You are amazing, your books are amazing, and you should both live long, healthy, happy lives and produce books forever. Good is better than fast. I am so sad to know the end of the Kate Daniels series is at hand, but looking forward to every other thing you write. Strike a Superhero! pose, (yay! it’s finished!) post a picture for us and then relax.
Sarah says
Thank you for the info! I’m totally on the “take care of yourselves” bandwagon. I’ve loved almost everything you all have written (the Alphas story is the only one I didn’t love 100%). I want to read more, but only if it’s up to your standards and you all didn’t drive yourselves into the ground getting it done. Besides, we have lotsa books to reread with your healthy backlist, and you all have given some lovely book and video game recommendations to help pass the time.
Amanda Reynolds says
I’m glad it’s finished, I’m sad it’s date is moved. However, I’m happier your health is more important. I remember several years ago when you did work yourself into the ground, and were so ill so often (or so it seemed). As my favourite author, your health is as important to me as it is to you! Anyway, release day is a week before my birthday so early birthday pressie for me. Personally, as long as I have a set date *shrugs* I’m just REALLY upset it’s the last Kate book 🙁 that more than anything else. You could take 2 years delay just tell me it isn’t heh.
Susan says
I feel like many books are rushed these days. (Not yours). I don’t want this last book rushed. If it is the last book, I would rather it be all it can be. I can wait for that. Thank you for the hours and hours of pleasure.
Susan says
But if you could get them to move it up to August 26, it would be an AWESOME birthday gift….;)
Tink says
Here’s my question… Is it the same rocks? Why isn’t anyone putting up a sign warning people? 😉
Amanda says
I wait patiently because your books are worth it. What is the point if rushing something out and not being happy with it? Good luck with the promos.
Hopefully you will be able to a break after the release while we are reading Kate’s last book, sounds so sad when you say it out loud?. I going to look for the pre-order button ?
Jimh. says
I’ve thanked you before, but let me do it again. Thank you for a series ad universe that we as fans can identify with. From strange humongous donkeys to how Kate got her sword…you have kept us afloat. Thank you.
Candice says
I am in no rush for Kate to be over. Also if you rush and the ending sucks people will complain and you will still be tired and run down. Do what’s best for you and the story. Real fans will wait.
Beth says
I’ll live. Love you guys!!! ? but the Jim Butcher thing is super annoying! ?
Toni says
I care! ?️❣️ BDH Lifer!
Good things never come quick or easy. This book will be excellent just because you all wrote it!
Danielle says
Yay! We’re getting a book!!
Thank you both for being amazing writers and for constantly updating us.
Yay! A book! I’m super excited!
Lottiemam says
In French, we say “l’attente fait partir du plaisir”. Which means waiting is part of the pleasure. Meanwhile, we have Maud’s novella to read…
Shay says
Congratulations on writing a 10 book, plus numerous short stories, series in approx. 11 years. The first series I ever followed was a 6 book series that was published over 31 years, mostly pre-internet, all pre-Fb and certainly no updates from the author or snippets to keep you happy. It was more a case of wondering if the story would ever be finished and one day seeing a poster in the bookstore advertising that the next book was ‘coming soon’. With 12 years between book 4&5 you kinda gave up and lost interest :p
Looking forward to wherever inspiration takes you next 🙂 Keep looking after yourselves and enjoy the process. Kate Daniels will sit on my ‘to be re-read’ shelves for many years to come. Thank you for the adventures xo
Caity says
What was the series?
I’ve been waiting 4 years and counting for the final Spellcrackers novel, latest update is Jan 2019, but I expect that to move again, it might happen, it might not, c’est la vie! The author is obviously not maliciously keeping her public waiting, she clearly has things going on in her life that take precedence.
Having said that, the Kate delay: I’m going to die!!! hehehe.
Erica says
I am glad for the self care . . However, now you have me curious. . . What are these “other projects” and when might we hear about them? Oh, yeah Kate D book! OTHEE PROJECTS? nudge nudge.
Vicky says
The silver lining is that the Kate Daniels story continues for a little longer I will read it whenever it comes out Thanks for a great story
Corrinne says
No author, no book. So your health is paramount. Anyone else who says otherwise can go take a flying leap. ?
Gail says
We’ll be here. Don’t stress.
Caramelia says
I’m a Jim Butcher fan and the wait has been long and is still longer yet.
I’m a Kerry Greenwood fan, both of the Phryne Fisher and Corinna the baker series – not even a tentative date for the next book is out.
I’m a massive Ilona Andrews fan and you guys are awesome in keeping us updated, giving us snippets, giving us Mauds Novella … I’ll gladly wait till the end of August for Kate 10 (although I already am sad this series is ending). Please don’t let all the naggers drag you down – you’re great at what you do, you’re great at tiding your fans over the waiting period, you’re simply great! Please stay healthy and keep writing for many many many years to come!
AlisonJ says
I am impressed with all of the effort you and Gordon put into your books and your careers, and I like to hear how your business decisions were made. It is so incredibly hard to manage your own business let alone manage it well. In the end it’s a book, It not going to be written well if you rush, rush, rush! And it is not going to be written at all if you run yourselves into the ground and all of your clever ideas fall out of your ears. You two made good choices. ?
I always look forward to your releases and enjoy all the extras you give us fans through this blog. Thank you for all of the reading enjoyment and escape from here to other worlds that you have given us.
I am incredibly excited to see where you go from here once this contract ends. I only know that wherever you go I will be there, too as an avid fan!
kelsey says
i think the best thing that would calm your readers would be “hey the book 10 release is pushed to aug, but in the meantime, we are releasing hugh’s book in april/may! yay!”
Teresa Hughes says
Always chose Plan B. Plan A is not worth it. Write for yourselves as much as for your many fans. Enjoy work but enjoy life more. Don’t let fear of disappointing us ruin your health, relationships or joy in living. For 40 years I have worked as a small town lawyer working 6 to 7 days a week. I have discovered that Plan A was good for my clients but not me. Don’t wait 40 years. Take care of yourselves. We will be here, looking forward to anything you write!!
Anna L says
I’m a big Wheel of Time fan. Robert Jordan passed away in 2007, and we were lucky that Brandon Sanderson was picked to finish the series. He choose to split the final book into 3 books, and they were done well. Yes it meant that we had to wait much longer for the series to finish but it was worth it. Take care of yourself and we will gladly be here waiting for more writing from you. Its a bittersweet moment and it deserves to be done well and savored. I’m sure its amazing, and I cant wait to read the book. Who knows I might celebrate the book with burning my thesis.
Prospero says
It’s an Ilona Andrews book and it is coming out in August. Thank you. I look forward to reading it.
Milly says
Well we survived the year wait for White Hot. We will survive the wait for the end of Kate too. I personally do not mind the wait as I do not want the series to end. But I can not wait to see what you come up with next. So good luck either way. I will still cyber stalk your site and keep hitting refresh for innkeeper updates
Jukebox says
Wow, you still get emails like that?
Parting with Kate and Curran will be such sweet sorrow, so any delays to the inevitable are kinda great. And the fact that it doesn’t really end here, because we have more adventures with Dina and Sean and hopefully Nevada and Rogan coming makes things even better. As long as Authorlords are still healthy enough to write, duh! ::Scatters magic healing pixie dust:: Here’s to a happy, healthy 2018!
Lyn says
That’s my actual birthday! Happy birthday to me … and thanks to Ilona and Gordon who care enough to do a great job. Wishing you good health and a happy home!
Melissa says
Thank you for the news, it just gives me time to reread the books again so I know what the heck is going on and that I didnt miss anything, because even rereading the books I always go “Huh, now how the heck did I miss that?”
If people are complaining, then it is my opinion (and mine alone) that those complaining people just don’t appreciate and understand how hard our beloved AuthorLords work to bring us much needed entertainment and stress relief. I just will say thank you and I appreciate you, your husband and both kid 1 and 2. Thanks for every minute that you had to be writing because of a dead line instead of doing anything else. Thanks for writing while sick, packing, moving and unpacking.. Thanks for all my laughs and getting me through some tough times. Even more, I am extremely greatful for all the stories you have posted on your blog. All the Innkeepers you gave for free each week. I will happily reread all my Kate books and wait for #10 being glad that there is a #10 and that you wonderful people wrote it for us.
Lorrie says
We care! LOVE your books but would much rather wait a little if it means our favorite authors are happy and healthy.
Good luck with the rewrite and promos ?
Aiden says
I am a Jim Butcher reader AND a Scott Lynch reader. THIS is not being late, not even fashionably so.
Jan Tucker says
Thanks for a brilliant series, ?
Henry says
We, as a group will wait, it is something we can’t control. There are some of us who are past our life expectancy. We would like to know how the tale ends. I will be winding up the second tenth of my ninth decade around publication date. I was rudely reminded of this by my insurance agent. When you get my age, there is no discount for attending a drivers education class, anymore.
Ramona says
You are mistaken. I do care very much about the authors. Because of their talent they make the world a better place – more interesting, exciting, and hopeful. This delay will give me an opportunity to focus on something fun and rewarding while I work my ass off trying to get some sane people elected at the midterms. Stay well and thank you for your wonderful stories.
Anne says
I am so grateful for your stories. As has been said your health and happiness is more important than the actual date. I must admit I am not entirely unselfish here – not healthy, unhappy means the two of you wont write and we wont get all those future stories :-). And we get Innkeeper and snippets in between! I am old enough to remember what it was like pre-internet blogs etc and then you never knew when to expect a book, and even if you have to wait somehow knowing that its going to happen does help. Again like others have commented since this is the last book this is a good time to re-read from start to finish and remind myself of the twists and turns. I love that you have created a world that fascinates, and peopled it with more than just cardboard cutouts supporting the main character so although I love to know about Kate and Curran I want to find out what all the other characters get up to. Andreas book gave us another viewpoint and widened the world as we could learn more than what Kate sees, the short stories also fill in the picture – that is great. Thank you so very much for sharing all this with us. I realise that we your readers must seem a bit like baby birds demanding to be continually stuffed with ‘food’ but we are really very grateful for all the hard work!
Carmen says
I really, really love your writing/books and so…….I vote, hard, for you to take extraordinarily good care of yourself so we get to enjoy your writing for many more years!!!
Tracey says
Heh – I’m one of those Jim Butcher readers so I don’t think waiting for your book will kill me. You guys rock, so do what you need to do and stay happy and healthy. Love your work
katje says
Ah wow, it really has been a run hasn’t it?
As always, you must do what is best for you, your health, and your family. Indeed, no one is going to be harmed by option B.
I can’t wait to see what you do next after this!
vero says
We are very patient… How about a tiny snippet? OK,not so tiny?
Mirren says
MUCH EXITE! Now I can plan my full series reread 😀
Karen says
Folks, I have been waiting for the next book in David Gerrold’s Chtorr series for over 20 years. Compared to that, a delay of a few months is nothing.
Laurence says
Option B is the way to always go, and the road I try to use personally all the time now, I’m no longer young enough to not care about my health.
Your health and well-being is more important to me than your books!
And I completely understand what you say about your productivity taking a nose dive if you force yourself, I live it myself if I’m not careful.
Cheers!
Marianne says
I couldn’t agree more with Laurence!! I think your true fans would agree as well. You are correct that it is just a book (although I am sure it will be a FANTASTIC book), and that your health and mental wellbeing are of far more importance. Thank you for letting us know about the release date. I hope that the revisions are few and painless!! Take some time to settle into your new home properly and enjoy it!!! ?

I’d rather wait longer and know you guys haven’t made yourselves sick trying to rush it. Your books are always worth waiting for and I’m excited for Magic Triumphs even though I’m heartbroken a series I love so much is ending lol. Still, it’s better to have a series go out on a high than drag on forever just to get more books in. I know we can trust you guys not to do that to us & I will happily wait as long as it takes for whatever you write next. I can guarantee it’ll be an auto buy no matter what it is or when it’s released 🙂
Rena says
Well said and I totally agree.
Take your breaks when needed, we will be waiting for you when you come back refreshed and ready to deliver the high quality books that we have come to know and love.
Joan says
You are totally right Ilona – option A is not worth it. I love Kate. I love all your books. I love that you are so good to your readers. I would read a new book from you EVERY SINGLE DAY if I could. But since that’s a little unrealistic ? I’ll read what you give me, when you can give it to me. Love ya ❤
Irrstern says
Well, that’s the birthday from my little one, surely it means something good 🙂
TheOtherLisa says
I’d like to say I can’t believe people would be so selfish at the cost of your health but then I look around. At least the comments from everyone here are loving and supportive.
MaggieTo says
Option B definitely
I can’t believe this will b the last book of the series – I will most certainly b re-reading the whole series
All your books r amazing and I’ve loved all the ‘Edge’ books and look forward to more ‘Hidden Legacy’ books as well as ‘innkeeper’ books
Your imagination knows no bounds
Please keep healthy and happy and enjoy your writing
rebecca fitzgerald says
most employers it all comes down to the mighty buck. i see it to many times these days.
Ayana says
I’ll wait whatever time is necessary for an Ilona Andrews book because it is pretty much guaranteed to be my idea of perfection. You take care of you, author lords. Your writing always takes care of me. Whatever you write, in whatever time, I will buy it and the cycle of support will continue. (If anyone pressures you otherwise, I will gladly pummel them with your hardcovers until they see the error of their ways.) 😉

Wiping a tear from my eye, I am pleased to note
‘You own it’
The talent the drive the will, to be & do
Author Lords, they proclaimed and in kindness you explain all that that entails. The business of publishing is not yours to control, shadows on the water means the fish don’t bite. The importance of fans to publishers is the notice taken by compilers of sales, who report o the frenzy of fans when the chum is finally released. (if you follow my drift).
Pre-order, BUT use gift cards. Pre-order means when ever it is released you get it. Pre-order generally gives you a 6 month lead time so you budget at your own convinience. I
I DON’T TRUST THE PUBLISHER, whose contract ends with this book. I
I do TRUST your skill, your will, & your talent. There will always be room in my budget for the stories you tell.
And if I die
before the book is due, since I use gift cards, it will be part of my estate.
Win;Win

Excited to read it. Never sacrifice your health. Your readers will survive and still devour your book. 🙂

Nothing comes to mind. Don’t get sick. Be well (and continue writing). But I’m still disappointed in Ace.

Option C: delay indefinitely and bring out a TV series instead. Works for some!
Carol says
I love option B! Readers will read when it comes. Authors must be well in order to write. There are events in life that are more important! I love the work that you do. To do that kind of lovely work you need to be okay and clicking together.
Thanks for everything you have created this far. ???????
Rosalita says
I cannot believe for one minute that anyone would just care about your books and not cqre about the two geniuses who created the worlds of kate & curran, nevada & rogan ,dina & sean. And maude & aldaran and opened the doors to those worlds for us. I am heading into my 8th decade and have learned all the very.best things are worth waiting for. So blessings to the authorlords and wishes for health and happiness in the new home . Rose
JR says
Dear Authorlords,
As long as you and your family are healthy, happy, safe, and still allowing us to share a small slice of your world through your gift of writing and world-building, I do not worry about the rest. I will buy whatever you write, whenever you write, wherever you write….
I agree with everyone, that your books are worth waiting for any amount of time. Priority will always be the welfare of you and your family first. You have already been so so generous to the BDH more than any other authors. And although one series is ending i am looking foward to reading about the next characters and next worlds you will write about for as long as you choose to do so and to share with us.
Plus i never say no to snippets…….
Karen says
I agree 100%. All your books are on pre order. Your health and well being should always come 1st. Your work is always worth waiting for!!
Love those snippets!!!
Sivi says
Thanks for the date. I hadn’t realised that that was a push back as i normally just pre-order when the option is there for one of your books as i know it will get here when it’s ready and it’s a lovely supprise when it does 🙂
I know of one series where the authors last book in the serise has not yet (to my knowledge) been published and it’s been around 15- 20yrs i think. They’ve seem to have done other stuff too. So readers who do think to complain should think about that before they complain about a set date just 8 months away which, if the publishers move it again- prob won’t be that far away and also the fact that we know the last book drafts are out there and finished- unlike the other book serise i mentioned.
Thanks again
kitlina says
We love you no matter what. Look how much we waited for Wildfire.
That said, I am so excited. Maybe you can do a spin-off later with the kids.
Susan Linch Ravan says
The BDH thinks option A is way overrated and option B is much better!
Tammy says
You do not just right books. You create worlds that I become part of. That I long for. That (maybe a tad melodramatic) my souls longs for.
Always opt for option B, but know that you do so much more than just right books.
CHRISTINA says
Honestly, I’m dreading the release date.. cause this is the last book.. I know once it’s released there will be no more.. that was the selfish part of me speaking.. on a human level.. none of your honest and die hard fans care about a deadline.. your health and your family’s well being come first.. my job does NOT come before my family and NO ONE should except you to do the same.. so whether Kate 10 comes out in August or next year means nothing… it’s bittersweet no matter what.. the Kate series means different things for different people and no matter what it’s your story and we ALL can’t wait no matter when that is.. life goes on.. and you will write more amazing books that are brilliant and amazing!! Some people out there can’t control their own lives and expect if they say nasty thing they can control others but please know the rest of us who love and respect your writing are with till the end..

You have brought so much reading joy with the sereis that any publishing date is a treat.
Monica Martin says
For the record I care about people more than a book. I’m pretty understanding that shit happens lol. It happens to us all. Things are delayed or put off. Sometimes our decision and sometimes not. Your correct it’s just a book. I can’t speak for other readers but I’m patient. I don’t get upset if a date doesn’t pan out. I know it’s coming so til then re-read. It’s not the end of the world. I joke that it might be but meh not really. I’m a busy person. I read and promote others’ work too. It’s ok…I’ll get by. ? Thanks for explaining and you didn’t have to. ?
BlondieB (Kathy from Aus) says
You are the best. The best storylines. The best characters. The best worlds. The best developing plots. The best interactions between characters. I could go on lol. I’ve read Azimov to Agatha Christy. Enid Blighton to Sagara West. Anne McCaffrey to Peter O’Donnell. Ngiao Marsh to Lewis Carol. All stella but you are out of this world. Love you and bless you both Kathy
Frances says
I’m delighted the book is coming out in 2018 at all and think your health (and happiness) is far more important than any minor reader disappointment that it is slightly delayed from some previously advertised date. If you are happy with the final story that goes to press then I am sure we will thoroughly enjoy it when we eventually read it.
I was very disappointed when White Hot and Wildfire were delayed but we all survived that wait and look how terrifically those two stories worked out.
Take good care of yourself and you can always bribe us with some extra episodes of the Maud novella!
Hilary says
Anyone who complains probably has no concept of how much it takes to write a work in both physical and emotional terms. You are rightly proud of your work and the characters and worlds you create. Ignore the unthinking ones your health is more important than a schedule. The book is preordered it will arrive when it is ready to be published. I love all your books and reread them with pleasure. I will read this one with pleasure tinged with sadness as it is the final one. Thank you for all the pleasure you have given.
Bill G says
I vote for Option B every time. I want you to be confident you’ve taken enough time to do your best for yourself, and therefor, for us.
Even if rocks fall and everyone dies.
Sharon says
Dear Author Lords.
Thank you for all the words and series.
Option B. August gives me time to re-read books 1-9 and the other little snippets, POVs etc.
Your health should not be slave to our greed for your work (be gone for now drooling hordes!). Our love and enthusiasm does sometimes lean towards demanding too much of you. Sorry!
The comments on this thread prove the esteem in which you are both held. Look after yourselves and whatever you decide to do next…we will follow you there.
Thanks for Maud; it has me excited already for where you might eventually take it when you have taken a breath.
Matt Smith says
Hey I’m great with option “B”. It means that you don’t burn out and decide to become a hermit or something, and that you’re still around to write great stories with Gordon. Thanks for the early warning so I was able to update my book acquisition list. I still think it sucks that the book is pushed further back, but that’s just my selfishness talking; so feel free to ignore that
Billie Dee says
I can wait.
Your health and well being matter to me.
Nanik says
I can muster a lot of patience when it comes to waiting for your books. They are always worth it.
Kat from Australia says
I’m pretty sure my eyes are flashing little heart signs at the screen right now. One day, if I work really, really, really, really, REALLY hard, I might cultivate this level of badassery. I will strive to achieve, Sensei!
Oh yeah, and book release delay, and all that: no worries. I thought the author lords would be delivering in 2019 too. I’m ridiculously excited that I have this to look forward to in August.
Though, warning, if rocks really do fall and everyone really does die, I will scream so loud you’ll hear it on the other side of the world. Warning delivered.

Penelope27 says
Definately worth the wait, I pre-order as soon as I can. But – did I miss the Hugh story……?
Simone says
Option B, of course. Anyone who would choose option A is a self-absorbed jerk. I understand someone being disappointed at the delay but I don’t think any of your readers are 3 years old so they have no excuse for sending an email tantrum.
Thank you for the past DECADE of work in turning out such a great series. Thank you to your family for their support of your work. Thank you to everyone else involved in getting the books into my hands. Magic Bites was the first book I ever read of yours and you hooked me at Here Kitty Kitty.
Aug 28 – it will be a nice way to round out the summer. A few days after my birthday so it will be a belated bday gift to me 🙂 Thanks in advance
Melodi Whitaker says
I’m actually kind of glad it’s delayed…I’m so sad that it’s coming to an end and this delay keeps that at bay for just a little while longer.
These books have helped me get through some very difficult struggles with bipolar disorder and chronic pain due to 2 disabling conditions.
I have read the series 7 times and listened to it with my husband via audible books. He really enjoyed them too. Now we will have time to listen to them again, and I will reread the series as well, before the last one is released.
I have read every book written by you(that I have found anyway. I was never able to get the 2 books in the Kozlov Universe), and I listened to both the Inkeeper Chronicles and the Edge series with my husband. If we ever finish the Jim Butcher books(dang, there are a LOT of them) we will listen to the Hidden Legacy series before listening to the Kate Daniels books again. Your books dominate my kindle and audible libraries, and I will continue to reread all of them as well as reading your new stories in the future. I am anxious to be introduced to your next fascinating world and meeting the intriguing and inspiring characters that live there.
Thank you both for sharing your imaginations, creativity and writing skills with us, your readers and adoring fans.
Anthea says
Pretty sure I’ll be delighted with the book whenever it comes out. Thank you!!!
Ange in Australia says
I’m Option B all the way. I look forward to savouring Kate 10 in August, and you and Gordon happy and healthy.
I’ve not read beyond the first few comments, but I’d like a “like” button to, well, like the supportive comments.
Gail says
I’m sad it’s the last Kate book and sad it’s going to be 4 months later than expected.
But I’m happy i found your books and really am looking forward to this book.
Option B, always.

Hilarious conversation! ..” You don’t seem to care”.. I imagined the bottom lip going out and the thumb going in..?
Thanks for the update. Mid year sounds just great. Time goes fast. It will be here before we know it.
Christina says
Thank you for the update. I can’t wait.
Mysticmoods says
I’m fine with Option B, guys. Your health should always come first. I’ve worked myself beyond my mental and physical limits twice in my career. Both projects ended as a major success, career wise, and two bouts of clinic depression, health wise. Ain’t doing that again, and neither should you! Just keep us posted on how you’re doing
God Bless
Biji says
All of us waited for White Hot for how long? Don’t remember now. The books are that good. So, no worries about the wait. You guys are amazing. Thank you
Mary Beth says
“Rocks fall. Everyone dies.”
I brayed like a donkey and scared my husband when I read that.
Option B is the way to go. I spent 2 years in an online writing class to finish my first book, and it still needs work. Some teachers put pressure on me to write faster, but I’d rather produce a good story than ‘turn and burn’ crap. You and Gordon continue to be inspirational, and I’m so happy the series will finish with extra time to blow our socks off.
You are always worth waiting for.
Thank you
MB

I enjoy your books every much. You make your readers feel apart of your life with your blog. You keep us inform and provide insights that keep us happy. If you were not so good at what you do, we would not be so excited and impatient to read your books. I re-read a lot. I just wish the series could go on forever but that is not the way of life.
Just keep writing and do not let your writing affect your health. Also, take time to enjoy yourself. You deserve it after all the joy your books have brought.
Sarah Alexander says
The Series is brilliant and more than worth the wait. In fact you could be releasing the final book five years from now and i’d still be thrilled. Really looking forward to it!
suelder says
I always take off the day after one of your publications. So I can read. I love this date because it’s still in 2018 and because I already have vacation. 😀
Claire M says
Why are people upset?! I’m just over the moon that we have a set date and it’s this summer!!! So excited to read it!! As someone who has just had to quit a job she loves for health reasons, I am so glad you choose option b and put yourself first. No job, even if you love it, is worth that strain.
Thank you so much for an incredible series and caring so much about the quality of your work, and your readers as well. I hope you can take a well deserved break sometime soon!
Eva says
I am just glad the book is coming out. I will read it no matter when it comes out. I waited seven years once for a book to come out. Waiting a few months is nothing. I love your work. You do your thing. Love your work.
Melissa says
If you need my vote, I agree with all you said. Take your time. Enjoy your new home. You can only control yourself (not the publisher) and it seems you have learned that lesson well. You come first.
Alicia says
Family & health first. You always seem to have so many projects going at once. I can’t wait for the last Kate book and will read it the day it comes out no matter when that will be.
Loved that you started Maud’s novella. I don’t know how you do it all.
Traci says
Yeah, Kate’s coming soon!!!!!!!
Sandy says
Do I wish it was sooner? Well, of course! Am I mad that it’s later? No!! This is one of my favorite series and I would wait however long it took for it to be published. I love your writing style and I will always read your books. Taking care of yourself and your family is important. Now I have time to reread all the Kate books in preparation for 10. Thanks for all you do!!
Erika says
Honestly, I don’t know how you do all that you do and keep your sanity intact. Moving, rewrites, hosting a holiday, working on a novella and still keeping up a blog for your fans?? Seriously, I don’t know where you get your energy from! Your next book will come out when it comes out. Your health and sanity are more precious commodities; nurture them!
Mardee says
For what it’s worth, when I found out the book’s release date was being set back, I was annoyed with the publisher, not the author. I understand that these things are out of your control. As for the reasons, they make sense. I am hoping that the extra time will allow you to do some extra appearances – I would love to see that! I will even travel!!
Thanks for a great series – I will definitely miss Kate and the gang, but look forward to many more reads from you in the future!
Pat Sciarini says
I am willing to wait, actually I will wait, and knowing your consistence in delivering your usual quality and great read, who cares! Do what’s best for you and yours. I will wait for the best,
Mamasaurus says
Good Christ I’m sorry people give you such issues as to get angry over…allthisstuff. GRRM frustration I can get, ish, but this is publishing houses. I’m still, personally, uber excited. It will be awesome and so very worth the wait. Thanks for the hard work!
Katy says
GRRM isn’t even bad…. I gave up on book three in one trilogy after 20 years ?
Ilona gives us regular updates.
Sharon says
We care about you too…the books are great but if your I’ll we won’t get any others and I personally like all your books not just Kate…and I’m looking forward to a re-reading the previous books and re-listening to them on audio too…so don’t let the odd bad egg bother you…your fans live your books but we also care about how your doing…
Tina in NJ says
I’ve come late to the party. I started reading your work (Kate, Hidden Legacy, & Innkeeper) last fall. Do I want more? Of course! But nobody can supply new stuff that fast! I will console myself with the new Innkeeper serial and imagine Jim as the father of two little girls (kittens!) until you grace us with more news of our favorite characters. I hope that, while Kate’s story is drawing to a close, we will occasionally get visits from that world. I am grateful to have found you, authorlords. (My sister’s been telling me about your books for years.) I will read anything you write whenever it comes out. Thank you. (Now go play on your new Switch.)

You publish at an amazing rate! I’m just glad it’s getting published this year and can’t wait to see what new things you have in store in the future!
Cindy McCullough says
We love you! Don’t listen to whiners and complainers. Who cares what they think? I don’t care when the book comes out. Anything you write, I will buy, whether it comes out this year or fifteen years from now. I think most of your fans adore and care about you both. It’s just that whiners are more vocal. Just skip right over their complaints.
Eli says
The book will be worth the wait. As far as sacrificing yourself to produce a single novel vs many more excellent flights of fantasy, my family may have worked hard to escape farm life, but we haven’t forgotten the lessons. Always option B, until a superior option C emerges.
The fussy emails do make me curious, though. I hope at least a few provoke good natured laughter.
Helen says
For me, loving your work, the fact that you are healthy and happy and still writing is the important thing. I am still waiting for Jim Butcher’s new release and Patricia Briggs. Hopefully the delay is in the publishing and not in the authors life.
Take care of yourselves. Your writing is a joy and a gift. But you are the important factor. I will continue to purchase anything you write. Love the characters and the story lines. And the new story with Maude is the bomb!
Kelly says
Thank you for the new book – I’m just happy to have it on the schedule so that I can know it is coming and when I can read it
Debbie Vassar says
You take care of you first, we understand this is a job and know that the extra time was due to the two of you wanting the book to be the ending Kate deserves. The fact that you have written so many books in these years is just amazing. No matter what any naysayer might think, most know that just writing the book is not even half of the issue when someone has to proof read then the back and forth before a publisher finally says okay. At the end of the day be proud, you have a loving husband and kids that are only as crazy as their parents! I appreciate that you share Kate with us. I’m amazed that you could move during the one time of year that is focused on family time at home and still put Kate10 in the box.
I know Maud and the rest are probably knocking on the laptop window but take a break and enjoy the day because you both deserve it.
Tiger Lily says
I had already received an email from Amazon that the date of my preorder had changed so it isn’t a surprise. Since it is the last in a series I adore I actually have no problem drawing it out. I am going to be very sad when it ends.
Lauryn M says
It’s not late, it’s just a little less early. And I don’t really care; I’m just bloody grateful to get it.
I’m with you on being done with A. More power to you.
You’ve got my admiration and respect as consummate professionals and my empathy as fellow humans. You’ve got my loyalty because the quality of what you produce every damn time is off the charts, iconic.
You had me at “Here kitty, kitty” and l’ll never let go. 😉

If it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. If that means a little extra time to make it right, that’s fine. One way I look at it is: if an engineer does a rush job on designing a bridge, people are at risk. If that same engineer takes their time to design it right, prototype it, simulate it, etc, people are far safer.
Theodore D. says
I’ve always liked the part of the adage that tells us, ‘good things come to those who wait.’ And a good book, rushes, wouldn’t be as good.

Jenny says
I don’t care if the books are delayed as long as your WRITE MOAR!
(See what I did there?? ?)
Thanks for being awesome! Can’t wait to read it!
John F says
Just gives us extra time to reread the whole series! ?
Linda Smith says
I agree. You should be option B all the way. I don’t understand why there are some that complain. I would never want something that comes at the expense of another. From personal experience I always put enough pressure on myself that others don’t need to. Hopefully there are more of us that care than those that want to complain.
I’m looking forward to the book regardless of the release date. I’m also excited about future projects. Take care of yourselves, enjoy your new home, and simply thank you.
Amy says
I know what I will be doing on my birthday!
This is going to be an awesome birthday present!
As somebody who recently learned option A is never a good option good on you for sticking to it! You did the hard part and finished the book the rest is out of your hands! And it’s great that you will have more time for revisions etc.. there are so many badly written and badly edited books out there, so true fans who want the quality won’t care.
Thank you for writing great books and for always communicating with your fans!
Jessica says
I am glad the timeline works out where you won’t be as rushed!
Your blog really did put in perspective that compared to other authors you both keep deadlines consistently.
Thank you for all your hard work and sharing your art!

I love you guys. Thx for the morning laugh.
P.S. But I’m goin’ to die! Well, not too much.

So now I have a date in which to have re-read ALL the Kate books 🙂
Take care and thank you for this wonderful world you created.
Maggie says
You do what you need to do to keep sane and healthy. Ignore all those grumpy people. I would much rather have a good book than a rushed book, and I’d also rather know that the authors didn’t end up in the ER from stress. We just have that much longer to anticipate this final chapter. Honestly, I’m not sure I ever want to see it because it’s THE END.
Michelle says
I am also delighted that it’s coming out this year, not 2019! Not being under contract sounds like heaven, being able to write what you like and know there’s a way to get whatever book to its audience.
Christy Owens says
You guys are great, your books are great, and I’ll read them as soon as I can get them. But I certainly don’t want or expect you to suffer and stress yourself into the hospital, so that I can read a book a few months earlier. Take care of you and yours first, always. That is the most important priority.
R Coots says
I got the Amazon email telling my my preorder had changed and it took me ten minutes to figure out that the new date wasn’t the day I’d MADE the preorder. Haha! Honestly though, I’m not surprised they moved it out. Much better to finish with your sanity and healt intact (and a good product) than not. Rest assured, when it finally hits my Kindle, it will be DEVOURED. 🙂
Succotash says

Meagan Watts says

Patti McGhie says
Delay? Fussy emails? HA!!!! We George RR Martin readers can do the extra wait time standing on our heads. Love your books; can’t wait for the final Kate Daniels. It will be as long as it will be– and if it’s not a seven year or more wait, I’ll be totally happy. :o)
Sharon Barrett says
Seriously, I’d rather have an epic read written by happy, healthy authors. Who cares about a delay? No blood, no foul in my world!! And while I hate it’s the end of Kate and Curran’s saga, the anticipation just makes it all the more delicious.
Eat a piece of cake and wish the haters well. If a book delay is all they have to worry about, well bless their hearts.
Therese says
I HATE waiting but even if you published a another book right after it would still be too long.
Love, love your writing. You are more important than any book. Do what is right for you and your family.
We’re all adults, we can take it. Patience is a virtue!
Christine says
I’m just please that you guys have the series ending you are happy with. There’s no point in making yourselves ill to teach a deadline.
I’m sorry that the series is ending, but hopeful that there will be spinoffs
For those that complain – tough!
Take care ?
Antonia says
Whoh! Magic Triumphs! I’m so happy and sad at the same time that it is the last Kate book.
We (at least some) do care! Not all of us writes emails and complain :). You are more important than us having to wait a couple of months here or there.
Ami says
I love you and your little self written Q&As. Lol I’m thrilled it’s THIS YEAR and understand that making sure it’s right it’s more important than having it out next month. Thank you for this amazing series and for sharing y’alls amazing talents with us. I love Kate and Curran so hard.
Artstuff2 says
What is wrong with people????
As my GG used to say…”Anything good is worth waiting for”
And I agree I hate waiting as much as the next person, but the reward is sooooo great, it is worth it!
Write on Ilona and Gordon because what ever you you write it great and well worth the wait!
Sam says
Well at least it’s not Doors of Stone, thank ou universe
Suzette M. says
Always go with Option B. I want you guys to live long, healthy lives. Wishing you health & prosperity in 2018.
Sarah says
The wait makes it all the sweeter …
Kit says
Delays are merely postponed pleasures. I would rather have serene, healthy and inventive Authorlords than a met deadline as they will ultimately give me more to enjoy in the future.
Patricia Scott says
Just more time to re-read and relish the series thereby enjoying the final installment even more!! Thank you for all the pleasure your writing brings. Loving the new Innkeeper!
Michelann says
“Biology is a bitch.” I may quote this for my classes.
Patrice says
Do I wish it would be in my hot little hands sooner? Of course. As far as you and Gordon overworking yourselves at the whim of fans, well that’s just ludicrous. I’m sure the standards and stress you put on yourselves is far more strict than what was healthy at times, as your post said. Your record and quality of work speaks volumes. Thank you for this marvelous series and all the hours of entertainment it has provided me. It has made me laugh and cry and pulled me through good times and some really bad times. I will reread it often (which is my highest praise).
But what I am struggling with is wrapping my head around the fact this is the last book. I know, I know! This is not a surprise. Regardless, I have been in deep denial. I am desolate. I LOVE this world and all the people, spirits and guard poodles that live and love and fight within it. I can’t imagine not looking forward to another story in Kate Daniels world. But I must face facts. Je suis désolé. This will not change. My mourning period shall commence. 🙁
PS: if I was magic I’d take down a skyscraper about now. 🙂 I waver between mourning and acting out. I relate to Erra. LOL 😉
Gwyn says
With all the things to be upset about, release dates don’t make the list. I would rather you have time for a life so new books keep coming. I Look forward to a continuation of Hidden Legacy and Inn Keeper. I would like to see books with Derek and Julie’s point of view and several of the other characters. Just keep writing and I will keep reading.

I’ve posted what I have to say about this last book in the other thread, but I do want to add one thing.
What I don’t like is when you run yourself into the ground. Actually, I hate it. It’s not worth for you to make yourself ill. It’s not worth it for you to drive your blood pressure up. I could selfishly say it’s not worth it for you to burn yourself out and stop writing. Horrors! It’s not worth it when you rob yourself of having a life. No book is worth any of this. Please don’t grind your teeth at this next statement. You show your fans how an author should behave. The person you present to the public is many things, but most of all…admirable. So please, protect yourself.
PS: To clarify, when using the pronoun ‘you’, I am of course referring to both of you.
HopeT. says
Exactly this. We’d rather have you around to keep publishing books than have 1 book early/on time if it will hurt you to make it so.
Karen the Griffmom says
We worried about you during the Hidden Legacy SNAFU. No one wants a repeat. You do what you need to do when you need to do it, and if anyone bitches, send him/her/it over here, and I ‘ll whack ’em with my momma spoon.
joy says
if that doesn’t work, i got a Real Nice Cast Iron skillet i can introduce them to 🙂
Ree says
Absolutely. Books get delayed, and the world still keeps moving along. Now if you stopped writing…. but I will choose not to think about that. I am excited when each book comes out. I figure this just gives me more time to reread all the books to refresh my memory.
Jo Jones says
Stay healthy. Keep writing. I will be happy to read when you publish no matter the timing.
Tori says
Que será, será.
Whatever will be, will be.
When it pubs, we will all read it. Even the bitchy ones. lol
Aug works better for me anyhow. 😛
Padawanita says
I received an email from Amazon listing August 18th as the delayed release date, rather than the 28th. Maybe they’re trying to let me down softly? No doubt I’ll get another email in due course giving me the 28th as the date. Heh! Or maybe not. No matter what, your comfort is paramount, and we BDHers can definitely wait. I’m excited to hear Hugh’s story will be available in the interim. At any rate, my birthday is in August, so, the best birthday present for this year will be out there. I wonder how many of my family will buy me your book. Probably none, since they know that Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson books are ordered as soon as I am allowed to preorder. All of our best to you, Authorlords! Settle in the new digs and take the breather you both need. We appreciate you and your work!
Jaime says
Would I love to kidnap all of my favorite authors, lock them in a dungeon and force them to produce non-stop? Um, well, maybe I shouldn’t answer that!
Anyhooooo .. it doesn’t work that way anyway and while I don’t know you two personally (autograph at a convention doesn’t count), I will always value your health and well-being over the books I love to read. Take care of you two and your families first, the rest will be just fine and I’m glad you’ve come to that conclusion too. So yay for 2018 and I’m so looking forward to all your future projects. 🙂
Nora-Adrienne says
I’m curious, do you own the Kate Daniels character and storyline? If you do, you have the option to offer it to another publisher and keep it going.
Diana R. says
…Sigh…We’ll all survive. What’s most important is your overall wellbeing. Perhaps we’ll be able to get a snippet or two of other things you’re working on, along with Innkeeper, to keep us going.
Lp says
I just wanted a date. I don’t care when but I needed a date so I can start planning the re-read of the entire series so that I’m back into the world of KD before the last book. Excited for the release, whenever it is. And if writing a book causes that many problems, deadlines should be pushed. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, you will stop. So let’s make it a good experience.
vinity says
It’s all fine. Stay healthy!! You have had a lot going on.
Dawn says
First – take care of yourself.
2nd, I’ve had this on pre-order since 8/29/2017 – so it’s kind of fitting. I will wait and I will like it (well, the book, not the waiting).
I’ve ALSO been waiting on the Jim Butcher book too. AND the final book of Game of Thrones… so I’m used to it 🙂
I also love that you’ve fulfilled your obligation and I really hope you can deliver your books\novellas independently w\o being beholden to publishers while making a living. I have too many friends trying to live their dream of being published authors while holding down full time jobs. And yes, I buy their (self-published) books too – as many as I can afford!
DianainCa says
Thank you for keeping us in the loop. I hope your box unpacking is going good if not done. Good luck in getting everything put in place. We remodeled about a year and a half ago and I am still second guessing some placement of stuff. The stuff you don’t use everyday like Christmas wrap.
I wouldn’t worry about any complaints about the timing, it really isn’t in your hands at this point. In my opinion since this is the last book of the series I am not surprised that the publisher wants to take some time to promote it.
Ellen says
Thank you for letting us know. Amazon also sent me a message. I don’t think your readers will be angry at you. Some things are beyond a writer’s control. I look forward to reading the book.
Ann Silvernale says
Why are you even making apologies/excuses?? This is YOUR life. You don’t owe anyone anything except your family. Just tell me this isn’t the last Kate Daniels book.
Nicole says
I, for one, would rather have a great book (which you guys always deliver on) that have a bad book right now! You guys are amazing and I am always willing to wait for your books! Of course, I might hiss and snarl under my breath, but I’ll just reread the Kate books and my world is right again!
Debi Majo says
Those folks that “whine” can grab a brick of cheese to go with it! Your stories all well worth the wait!
ssdl says
Doesn’t matter when the book is published, everyone will still read it. It’s great you are taking your time and making a book you are proud of. I’m actually a little glad it is going to be longer. I am not ready for the series to be over, but of course Kate and Curran deserve their HEA. Excited to hear of other books coming out in their world. Fingers crossed for more Hidden Legacy. Inn Keeper is also great.
Sarah says
I can wait whenever they publish the book. The delay is just fine for me . Thanks for the update. Stressing and ignoring bad fans is just fine because you just have to do you: ??
Jill says
A later publishing date doesn’t upset me, what does upset me is saying goodbye to my favorite literary character. There are going to be some tears in this house. At least now I have more time to stock up on kleenex!
Lynn-Marie says
We all look forward to your books, and in the interest of you being able to write many more in the future, you absolutely have to take care of yourself.
Plus, this gives us more time to re-read the rest of the series in anticipation! I don’t have them quite memorized yet. 🙂
nancy says
Don’t ever pay pay attention to the grumpies out there when your books are pushed back.
I once waited over five years for the next installation of Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. Mr. King finally wrote the next book (Susanna’s Song I think) when a devoted fan sent Mr. King a picture of a stuffed teddy bear with noose around it’s neck captioned “write the next book or the bear gets it.” Mr.King was so tickled by this it gave him whatever it is you writers need to continue the book.
Anywhoo… You are supposed to enjoy the writing as much as we enjoy the reading. No matter what.. We will be there buying the book when it finally comes out.
Because….we all want to read about the baby!!!!
Have a great 2018 and enjoy your life. For if you are enjoying, you will be writing.
Bec Mc says
That is the best story( LOL
April says
I’m torn between being really sad that Kate Daniels is ending and getting excited that we may get more Hidden Legacy as a result (my favorite series of all time).
Gloria Magid says
A couple of comments:
1. I absolutely want you guys to take care of yourselves first. There will be no more books if you are too ill/burnt out to write. I can wait. There are other things I can read in the meantime.
2. I am happy that you are posting Maud’s story, and enjoying it. It helps fill the gap.
3. (and this is just a little nudge – not a nag) – I do still miss Rogan and Nevada, and am hoping for another Rogan POV soon. No rush, just don’t forget these characters, please. I feel like they are part of my family now.
Thanks for all you do – you bring me a great deal of enjoyment, and keep me upbeat on the bad days. I love you guys.
Gloria
Judy says
I am disappointed but would much rather have you both healthy and happy.
Waiting is always hard but want this series to be finished in a way that you are happy with.
You have never disappointed.
S cook says
Oh my goodness, the final book! I love this series. It is my favorite. Will there be spin offs set in this world, please, please, please?
Patricia Schlorke says
No complaints here. Just good to know the date was pushed back. Take care of your health. Those who complain should be glad you and Gordon don’t retire from the writing world.
The BDH will get the precious when it’s ready. ?
Chiara (AKA Chandramas) says
I really hoped to have it for my birthday… but meh…. it doesn’t matter, I don’t care when it arrive…. I know I’ll finish in one day anyway!
No way I’m going to write publishers or nag you. If it was pushed back there must be a reason. Do I care? In italian we say “Nì” which is a mix of ‘Sì’ (=yes) because I love your work and I always want it as soon as possible, and NO, honestly take all the time you need because unless it’s something vital – and as much I love books, I won’t die if I don’t read a book exactly on that day – I really don’t care about few days.
Take your time, you don’t have to justify yourself, especially with us.
Wingedsyn says
I’ve followed you guys for almost the entirety of that ten years, and considering that everything you’ve ever written is AMAZING and almost always on time, with usually a couple books a year and extras like snippets, novellas, and the Innkeeper chronicles on your own time coming out as well, I don’t think any fan has a leg to stand on if they try to complain about a book delay. You guys ALWAYS deliver. Thank you for all the amazing stories you’ve given us already!
Talio says
Glad you two finished it. We (or at least I) will survive. Funny you mentioned Jim butcher. I am one of those waiting people, LOL. But he’s had a life, proposals and moving and fun. I would much rather my authors enjoy life and their work than sacrifice book quality to rush something out to make fans happy. As far as I’m concerned this is not late. Thank you so much for the series. It’s giving me re-read time. Hee hee.
P.S. Got the sharrim quote wrong. Have been burning through the series since to make up for it. 🙂
Elkie says
Dear Authorlords, as reader i also hate option a. I vastly prefer you in good health and able to write us the best possible finale (as well as providing us with great Maud!!)
Thank you – I appreciate all you do.
Julie Palos says
Just know that for every 1 person who complains to you, there are thousands more who are understanding about lifes obsticles, the writing/publishing process, etc. I am one of those “thousands” and i usually dont comment much (I am more of a voyeur on the blogs) but i just wanted to say Thank you for your books!
Shadow says
If being a gamer has taught me anything, it’s that delays are usually only good things-they allow more polish and (usually) a better end product. I figure the same works for books. I’m just happy cause now I have something to look forward to for August, and I now have something to get my brother for his birthday in the same month 😀
Jacquie says
Having you healthy mentally and physically, creating more awesome realms and alternate realities for us to enjoy and explore is more important than any deadline that adds extra stress. We get impatient, yes, but appreciate your dedication to giving us the best you can. Thank you for ten years of absolute enjoyment. I am looking forward to what else you have in store for us.
Michelle says
Have a great day ??… enjoy ?
karen h says
So happy for you! As much as I love Kate Daniels and will read the books from that realm forever, I’m sure this is somewhat of a relief for y’all.
Option A sucks – I want a mentally healthy author(s) that enjoys writing. That love shows and I wouldn’t trade that for an earlier release!
Sit back and enjoy the moments before Ace has you out and about.
I can’t wait to see what your next adventure brings!
MagicTrix says
Reading the comments above, I have the overwhelming impression that none of the BDH wants Option A. In fact, none of us are seriously bothered by the extended delivery date. So I hope that the number of “fussy” letters received is far less than you anticipated. Like the others, I am just eagerly awaiting an awesome read. Just like everything else you have written, since Magic Bites.
Danny says
We are always happy whenever a book of yours comes out. Early, late..doesn’t matter…we are just glad to read something. I think all of us hope that this book isn’t the real last book in the series…that there will be other books in the same universe. But if not, the ride was great and we all look forward to other projects written by the both of you. Good luck.
Samantha says
Please take all the time you need! I am so excited for this book and have loved all of your books and series. I can not wait to see what you do next. Thank you for all your hard work.
Leokatz says
Looking forward to everything you write, however long it takes you. Innkeeper is a real treat for me on Friday nights. So, do take care and all the best for the two of you!
Midge says
I love your books but definitely opt for Plan B where you don’t kill yourself hitting deadlines. Do I hate waiting for your books – yes but it’s worth the wait! 🙂 I love your books and whenever they are available, I want them. Relax, take your time, and I know the books will be fantastic. We want you around for years to come, writing, so do take good care of yourself and Gordon!
AndrewC says
I knew this was the final Kate and Curran book. I still had an “Oh crap! No more of my favorite escapist reading?!” moment. Like knowing you have to go to the dentist, and actually getting in the car to go there. It cracks me up that people give you stink for what you, as artists (writing is still an art, for all the commerce behind it) do with your art. Jim Butcher, Patrick Rothfuss, Erin Morgenstern. All people with a long time between releases. Hell, Tolkien’s The Silmarillion took something like 20 years to get on the shelf. The speed with which you folks get stuff out and the quality of it, I think, is pretty amazing. However, whenever, you get your writing out, I’ll be waiting to read it. A bit impatiently, perhaps, but it’ll be great to have it. Thanks for your work. Take care of yourselves.
Andi S says
This is the day before my birthday! What a stunning birthday present! Hooray hooray hooray!
Abby says
Andi – You and I must share a b-day!
I saw the new release date and instantly thought “Well, now I don’t have to think about what Brother is buying me this year”
Sophia says
“Good things come to those who wait.” Y’all take your time the book comes out whenever and when it does I’ll get my copy and read it. Actually, I’ll get the audiobook and listen to Renee Raudman narrate it ?
Mickey says
Such a positive Outlook. I wish my husband could understand that health is so much more important than work. Good for you.
Pauline Dixon says
Honestly don’t put yourself down we are in the hands of the publisher, anyone who has the nerve to complain needs a swift kick in the butt, we are ecstatic to be getting this book and sad it’s the last in the series, but excited that your fertile brains will be giving us new stories and new characters to fall in love with
Liz says
I will get it when it’s ready and I will DEVOUR AND ADORE IT!!
Ps. Please stay sane & healthy xoxo
Rohaise says
No worries. Stick with plan B. This just gives me more time to reread the series again!
Lisa says
I am looking forward to your book AND the Butcher book AND the next book (in English) by Walter Moers. All are worth the wait! Thank you in advance!
Lisa Smith says
Good. Keep your life sane. No one is going to die if they have to wait a few more months, or a few more years. My work motto is if no one is going to die it’s not an emergency.
I started re-listening to the audible books. The narrator is awesome. ?
Rhonda says
I am begging both Ilona and Gordon to take care of themselves. The flu season is getting ugly in Texas with the added bonus of a nasty cough going around. I wpild much rather wait on a book than to have nonfunctioning authors.
Michelle says
Thank you ? for letting me know when the books going to be out. I now have plans for the long weekend in September. ?? Doing the happy dance.
Will be sad for the end off the series. Looking for the new books coming out from my favourite authors.
Everyone have a great week.
Clarissa says
Thank you for the update which most certainly cracked a smile on my face. I think it’s a good reminder that you are only human and quality is so much better than quantity! This community is awesome, and I don’t want to repeat the encouragement and care that has been offered other than to say “hear hear”. I am using the delay as an opportunity to leisurely (since I now have a one year old) re-read all of the Kate Daniels series in preparation for the final installment. I want to encourage all fans to join me!
Issa says
Yeah! I was hoping for September date so end of August works. September is where my mother (ironically named Ilona as well) comes to visit me and we’ve been doing a buddy read on the books for a couple years now then spend a week arguing. I swear we spent more than 10 hours debating Roland’s motivations after Kate 9. Fun times!
Lola says
Issa…that cracked me up! Now I wish I had a reading buddy! Anyway, enjoy the book I will. Also a super big thanks to the authors for many, many hours of reading pleasure.
Ariel says
I love this post so much and love you guys even more. Do it right! Don’t die! Maybe even enjoy the process of writing and promoting your awesome work. Much love to you all and thanks for this wild ride.
Jessica anderson says
Well I understand I love your books and plan to be alive in August keep writing more books there isn’t one I haven’t loved
ready to read says
Congrats on the accomplishment and I figured it wouldn’t come out until next year.
TOTALLY AWESOME. I once waited 4 yrs for a follow up book and now It has been 2yrs since her last release… that tells you if the story line is good we will wait for any book.
Now that you mentioned Jim Butcher… he is into other things from what I understand and so I am of the mind set of the old time westerns when I was a kid ( they ride off into the sunset and you can make your own epilogue).
Thanks for the release date. Something to look forward to.
Manpreet says
Love you Ilona and Gordon! Option B is A-Okay.
mars says
eh, I can wait, always told as a child, Wait, that patience is a virtue.
Also we have the” Vamp sweep ” to enjoy.
Monkeygravity says
Thank you for all the hard work you put into creating these characters and their worlds!
I love all your books and will happily wait. Gives me more time to reread the series! ?
Monique says
Hugh in the spring, Inkeeper as a serial and a grand finale Kate book in August – we are so very spoiled 🙂
Thank you for your wonderful writing!
Maria Kneipple says
I, for one, prefer option B. Happy author who wants to write more, plus better book for reader. Win, win in my book (pun possibly intended).
Jojo says
I think your post is great. I will enjoy the book when it’s out. This gives me more time to re-read all of your previous Kate books which I pretty much do each time you release a new one. I still love reading them and find amazing details that I missed or had forgotten. Thank you for many hours of entertainment!
Hilly Grieshaber says
I do care about the author, your good health and well being means other books to come. Absence make the heart grow fonder and all. I am glad it is coming later in the year, August would be great as I can take it with me and read/listen to it on my trip across the pond. What a great thing! Hang in there and take time to enjoy your lives. The rest as they say will fall into place. Slainte!
Michelle says
Y’all are awesome!
Kevin says
Thank you very much for all the hard work you have put into your books. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading and re-reading each of your series. If you are going to a less-stressful way of writing you deserve it. I just wanted to thank you for each reading break during lunch pick-me-up I’ve had as well as the 10 hour binge reads on new books. Looking forward to the ending. Sometimes it sucks to end, but honestly I’ve come to realize that if something doesn’t end you can’t experience something new. Only so much time in the world, finish what you love.
Jasmin says
Woo hoo!
I’m grateful to get the end of an epic series that I’ve loved for years on my birthday so when I spend all day reading it, people can’t complain. My day, my rules.
This is great, I also look forward to whatever you two write in the future!
Ryiaala says
Good for you.
Ryiaala says
As in … it is GOOD for you, which means that it ends up being good for us. I wasn’t being sarcastic.
Chris says
Writers are humans with actual lives and families and stuff to do just like us ? Wow ! What a concept!
We love you and everything you write, and will patiently wait until any of your stories are ready to be born.
There is an abundance of mediocrity out there for those who can’t wait for the good stuff.
So, enjoy your new home, family, and your time, and we’ll be here when your ready.
Have a great year!
Nina says
Yes, who even are these fans who have these unreasonable reactions?! I don’t see them anywhere in the comments on this blog and I can hardly imagine how someone could think like that. (I’m not saying I doubt they exist, it’s just mind-boggling.)
Ruud says
I don’t mind that we have to wait. What s*cks is that the initial date was far earlier. We’ve been anticipating the release and now it is pushed back for months and months. But like you said, we’ve been waiting for Jim Butcher (Dresden Files) longer.
In the meantime, there are plenty of books to read, I’ll probably survive this disappointment. 🙂
Maggie Wright says
Thank you for everything you do, Ilona and Gordon! I appreciate you both for your hard work, dedication to your fans, and your amazing storytelling abilities. While I am sad that this is the last Kate book, I completely understand! You two have created a fabulous world with bright, exciting characters. I hate to see the end coming, but am glad you are doing it on your own terms!
Since you may be working on self-published books next, can I ask if you plan to write any more in the Alphas: Origin world? I LOVE that novella and am highly intrigued by the characters. I would love to see more of this gritty, dark world and I am hoping for a full sized novel from you two! :0)
Take care of yourselves and stay warm! It is freezing in Texas today.
ReneeG says
I’m glad the publishers are taking extra time to build up this book – Kate and Curran deserve a fabulous sendoff after all that they have gone thru! And the delay [hopefully] gives you an easier schedule for the rest of your edits as well as time to settle into your new house properly.
I’m not saying it will be easy to wait, but Kate [and your writing] is worth it!
DK says
I waited 2 years for Hidden Legacy…a couple extra months for the final KD book is NOTHING! I’ll wait for you to deliver quality product so that you also get to live a life worth leading.
Mary says
You are amazingly productive writers! AMAZING!! Complainers should be slapped like the hysterical lady on one of those old airplane movies.
Aninreh says
Thank you for the wonderful story that Kate turned out to be. For the worries if the characters will make it, for the emotional turmoil you gave us and wonderful adventures and vibrant world. Thanks to Kate I made it trough some hard times, got lots of joy and happiness. And at some level I’m so happy that the series will conclude LATER since I don’t have to face the necessity of saying goodbye to this world (oh I foresee months upon moths of rereading).
Margaret says
Why are people complaining? We have a new innkeeper book, a Hugh book and a Kate book in 2018. You are a machine baby!
Sukh says
That’s wonderful to hear that we will get to read the book this year. And I fully support option B. I’d rather you do well health wise over the long term than burn out. Delayed gratification never killed any of us readers 🙂
Susan says
Thanks for letting us know. I was literally just thinking that I needed to schedule leave for release day, so Aug. 28 it is! 🙂
Sondra Emerson says
I am just sad to see the story end.
Ericka says
Seriously, do not even think about option A. Stay healthy and happy!
Miranda S says
It’s the last book in not exactly in a rush to end it so as much as I look forward to the next book to a certain extent the longer it takes to come out the longer it is until it’s over… I know kind of lame lol. I personally like my authors happy, healthy and mostly sane so please always go with option B when allowed within contractual obligations please don’t get sued either I imagine that’s a whole other case of stress and health strain.
Dan says
Just glad you guys are still writing books instead of taking the longer vacations you probably deserve. I have thoroughly enjoyed the KD books, but I really like hidden legacy world. Kate isn’t really your intrigue kind of girl, but the hidden legacy series has options everywhere for lots of fun. For what it’s worth, I would happily buy as many of those books as you care to write.
Christine says
Honestly, totally thought this wasn’t coming out til next year. Thrilled to pieces to have it in August ^.^
Teresa says
I can not read 306 comments. I will take the book when I get it and love it. Thank you
Nicky says
You need to stay healthy and sane!!! ?? I know all about deadlines driving you crazy and having pressure put on you by everyone, you both need a lovely holiday. ??
Awww Love your rants. They seem muched deserved and its good to vent.
It is so amazing that you get books out so frequently and we all love them and you both so much. I really don’t mind when they come out I just happy to get them ( plus August mean my holidays and I have chance to re read the WHOLE series again before then….yay!! ?)
Thank you for taking into Kate life these past 10 years we have absolutely loved it and you both ??.
Starr K says
I care about the author. Take care of yourself and your family and the book will come when it comes.
Tamara says
For some reason I’ve always thought this one came out in the Fall.
Love the crack about Jim Butcher- I am one of those fans, I try to tell myself I will never check his page for updates again, then find myself creeping back in the dead of night only to find that same vague message ” Jim is at work on the next one”…. Aaargh!! What does that even mean!! Then get my nose rubbed in salt as I see the list of the multitudinous con meetings he’s attended over the past year.
So compared to that, you guys are amazing and I am just grateful that you use some of your professional time to continue to fill this blog with such an great insight into your lives ( I’ve been reading this blog since the beginning).
You guys are awesome, Thank you!!
Becky Campion says
I am sorry Triumph is delayed. I am really looking forward to it. That said, please keep talking to these jerks about Book 4. Some of us are holding on by our fingernails!
Lisa Krause says
In Germany, the book will be published on July 28th. I hope the date will not be postponed. So German readers have an advantage
Musaffa says
We do care about you the authors and thanks sooo much for writing these fantastic books ive read and re read each and every of your books… U are my favorite authors of all times in English….. Keep up the good work??
Ps. Can someone tell me where i can find complete sets of books?? Especially the edge series also is any of the books published in hard backs??
Jenny says
It’s sad to see KD end, because this is my favorite series, but it’s been such a great series! So much emotion, rich plotline, cool mythology that wasn’t just euro-centric, family drama (lol) and amazing fight scenes. The characters in these books are some of my favorites in all of my reading. I’m going to cry at the end of this book, no matter the ending, but I’m just very grateful to Ilona and Gordon for the world and the story they’ve created. I’m not going to bitch about a release date, health and happiness should come first.
Nick Asselberghs says
“You rush a miracle worker you get lousy miracles” ~ Miracle Max. Or Harry Dresden (Dresden Files by Jim Butcher). However you choose to see it.
Point being, take your time you two. A good book is worth waiting for. You come first, I do want to read your book. But you, and any author in general comes first.
And yes I’m fine with waiting on Jim and the next Dresden Files. The same quote applies when other Dresden Files fans whine about Jim taking his time in regards to the next Dresden novel.
Justin says
Thanks for the update. I would rather a great book then a book released yo soon. Although I can’t wait till this book comes out, it is one of my guilty pleasures ?
James says
Ill be the one person then. Honestly the book being pushed back is probably a good thing and i fully support the physical/ mental health of my favorite writers. But this isn’t “Peace Talks” they haven’t had a date set. There is no hype for that book. On the other hand i preordered Magic Triumphs and have been getting psyched for it for months, and the authors knew for the last 5-8 months that what they had posted and sold to people was untrue. They just chose not do anything.
Sana says
I will wait as long as it takes. I love your books and you. Gives me time to enjoy the anticipation of the last book!!
Thanks for all your great works!
Michelle says
I’ve been waiting for LJ Smith to finish her Night World series since the early 2000’s. I started those when I was in high school. So believe me when I say that I will wait as long as it takes!
Cindy says
I’m kind of mystified that people would bitch about a publishing delay. I know I shouldn’t be, and I’m coming to the site late in the game. I guess I’m not very good at the celebrity/author/musician stalking game.
Take care of yourselves. I’ll be over here patiently (and I’m not normally a patient person) waiting for the next books. Y’all are awesome writers.
