Print Preorder for BLOOD HEIR is now available. We weren’t able to do print preorders before on self-published books, so this is very exciting.
People keep talking about “the next book” as if this is a foregone conclusion. One person talked about a four book series.
I thought you might want to get in front of this before people start coming up with book 2 titles. Lol.Moderator K
As of now, there are no plans for Book 2. It’s not on the schedule. That said, BLOOD HEIR will read like one of Kate novels, meaning while individual mystery is wrapped up, the overarching conflict is not resolved. Whether it will spawn a sequel depends heavily on sales.
This isn’t an underhanded plot to make you go buy the second copy. 🙂 We’re talking in terms of tens of thousands of orders. If BLOOD HEIR does well and proves to be a viable opening to a series, there will be a series. If it doesn’t sell well enough or if we decide to not return to it creatively, then it won’t. Right now nobody knows one way or the other.
I liked how you decided it’s a series, though. Hehe. Just because it worked with Hugh doesn’t mean it will work every time.
To celebrate the print preorders, I brought you another short snippet. Sadly we didn’t finish edits yesterday, so we are still plugging away today. This will be the last snippet before publication.
I set the pan onto the fire, tossed bacon into it, and started dicing ham into bite-sized chunks.
Conlan spun around on his chair, leaned to the side until he was nearly horizontal, and plucked a metal sphere from the nearest pedestal. It was about the size of a basketball, a globe of delicate metal lace and gears. I had placed six of them around the sanctuary.
Conlan tossed it up over his head, sending a spark of magic through it. The sphere unfolded into a monstrous metal spider above his head, razor mandibles out, metal claws poised for a kill. For a fraction of a second it hovered above him, looking ready to devour his head, then the tiny drop of magic powering it ran out, and it fell rolling back into a ball. Conlan caught it with his other hand. The control required to achieve this would make the sages back at New Shinar giddy with joy. Conlan spun the sphere in his fingers and tossed it back up.
Sphere, spider, sphere, spider, sphere…
I finished with the ham, flipped the bacon, and moved on to slicing the mushrooms. “What’s the deal with you and Ascanio?”
“I don’t like him.”
I cut the cheese into thin slices. “Did he do something?”
Conlan shrugged. “That’s not important.”
“Okay, I’ll bite. What is important?”
I took the bacon out, drained most of the fat into the jar, and tossed mushrooms and ham into the pan.
“I want to help.”
“Help with what?”
“Help with the secret thing that you talk to grandfather about when I’m not there. The secret thing that makes you stay here and prevents you from coming home.”
“Ah. That secret thing.”
I took out six eggs, cracked them into the pan, and moved them back and forth with my spatula. Conlan, like his dad, couldn’t stand runny eggs. He’d complained about them before when discussing school meals. And like his dad and most shapeshifters, his tolerance for heat in his food was almost non-existent. If I’d been cooking for me, I would’ve been throwing jalapenos into the pan.
I salted the scramble and reached for the cheese.
My cutting board wasn’t there. Conlan sat on the table, holding the cutting board with the neat stack of cheese slices out of my reach.
“You’re avoiding the answer.”
“Give me the cheese and we’ll talk about it.”
Sam Fleming says
Exactly my first thought after reading it.
Gaëlle from France says
Thank you !!! I adore this kid !!
I think he’ll be full of surprises in the future, what a wonderfull character !!
Huh, I have to admit that I was convinced it was a series. Well, I’ll keep hoping.
Melisa M. says
I like him a lot too! We don’t know him well yet but you are right- he is so interesting. And he is definitely going to have a lot of surprises!
+1 about Conlan and the series too!
I’ll keep hoping for a series until you tell me it’s dead forever (and maybe even then, I’m stubborn). 🤞😁
Good luck with the edits! 😊
😉 we might just be guilty of “if you call it a series it will become one” syndrom.
Not a series you say? Ok, we’ll wait 6 months and ask what the timeline is for the next installment. Secretly we hope you will forget this wasn’t the original plan and start arranging timelines before you suddenly realize the truth. 😇
The Horde can be patient as we plot our way to our next book devouring. Like a jungle cat, we stalk our prey.. wait, no stalking just patient waiting. Waiting and watching, staring at you… creeping ever closer to the prize.. wait! No creeping we are just innocent fans with no nefarious plans at all. Yes, just nice tame domestic cats relaxing in the sunshine 🦁🐯🐅
You are too funny
Too funny (and also true). Love this, Nean!
I completely agree
The horde. Sounds nice. Were just tame cars waiting for our next meal in the form of books. Nya.
Melisa M. says
I love getting to see some Conlan and Julie interaction! Thank you! Will pre-order the print version today!
I love this back and forth between the siblings. =* thanks for another slice of this book, maybe this fix will tie me over till release day.
….regarding second books… we will not give up and hope for the best
Aw, so nice to see Julie and Conlan hanging out. And I would be THRILLED if Ryder turned into a series! (Just a statement of fact. No pressure,ha ha.)
Haha yes and then Blood Heir 2: The Conlan Chronicles… 😂
I love this. I love the love, you know? Gorgeous. (Thank you!)
“Whether it will spawn a sequel depends heavily on sales.” Great news! I’ll be sure to purchase 10 copies!
Yes,yes.(nods) it’s always good to have backup you know stuff could happen… I need one for my bookshelf that’s pretty and untouched, another one to read, then another one in case I loose it…the kindle version ofc oh and maybe another one in case they’ll stop printing one day🌝
Guess what everyone I know is getting for Christmas? Ha!
…..Christmas stocking- stuffer vouchers to be delivered as pre-inauguration presents 🎁 …..

Hi, im very exited for this book end souls Love to Preis der it. Gut in die German Amazon it sind availabel. So you know wheter its a problem with amazon?
Steffi S. says
Sorry. Auto corect dont like me… I meant, that i’m very exited for this book and would love to preorder it
Angelika Okotokro says
It seems the preorder on Amazon Germany for the paperback is not up yet 😞 I have already preordered the Kindle version, of course, but I can’t put that one on my shelf 🤷🏻♀️
I live in the Netherlands and also have to wait for it to appear in either the German or the Dutch Amazon – I greatly prefer paper for reading over kindle – I hope it won’t be too long, but if so I might gave to order from Amazon US since I’m not that patient in this stage
trailing wife says
There is a very special pleasure when reading the translation and the original side by side…
… and Amazon kindly reminded me that I had already pre-ordered the book back in August. That tells me two things: (1) I can obviously rely on my past self. (2) COVID-19 makes me even more scatterbrained than usual. Thank you for the snippet! And it’s just two more months!!! Yay…
+1 Me too ✋
Well, this is exciting! I don’t know enough about what are good Kindle pre-orders numbers but that Blood Heir is already ranked in the Top 100 seems like a good sign. I have pre-ordered but I suspect the numbers will explode around the publishing date 🙂 I am hoping for a series too, with lots of Julie/Aurelia + Derek action and Julie/Aurelia + Conlon sibling fun.
#54 in Fantasy Romance (Books)
#61 in Romantic Fantasy (Books)
#62 in Fantasy & Futuristic Romance
Thank you for the snippet. I like series, but I also like one off books set in a familiar setting. Sometimes you can do things with a single book that does not work well in a series. Especially when the world is already built and we are getting a story in that world.
Ooh, it’s coming out in January! Stupid me looked at the release schedule, forgot to translate date formats, and thought it was next December. It’s like a little present to find out it’s going to be so soon.
Karen the Griffmom says
Ok, if I buy it online, and in hardbound, and in paper
. . .
and audio, definitely in audio too.
Will there be an audio book?
It’s marked as unavailable 😔 maybe it’s because I’m in Israel? Although it says they ship internationally and I’ve ordered printed books before many times before , including in preorders. I hope it’s just a glitch, I really want to make sure I get one because my name will be in the acknowledgments and I’m super fangirling about it…
Joe K. says
I want a book, 300 pages or less is perfectly fine, of just daily conversations between Kate, Curran, Conlan, Julie and other random associates/friends.
I’d pay good money for that.
I wouldn’t worry about selling enough copies to warrant a second book or series…
If you wonderful authors are willing to write it, we’re happy to ingest. Over and over again.
Oh I have always daydreamed about some sort of family gathering even though that would propably be absolute chaos with that many characters.
Leigh Ann Parente says
FWIW, I always buy to copies: paper and audio. I’m thrilled I can preorder the paper!!!
Kat M. says
Look, it’s not our fault that you all managed to take a silly April Fool’s joke, combine it with our pleas, and create something wonderful and magical. You set yourselves up for these kinds of ridiculous expectations every time you publish something like that 😉
YES!! i was waiting for someone to bring it up, I totally agree! i was one of the ones who didn’t believe Hugh could be a good guy, or even relatable. They did it! i love his story too so far!!
Question–will it also be coming out as an audiobook? I pre-ordered the kindle version because my vision isn’t great for print books. But my preference is audiobook since I like to knit and listen. Looking forward to the book whatever the format!
I would donate to a Kickstarter or GoFundMe for an audio book. Just saying, no pressure.
Dawn p says
Me, too! I usually buy both audio and print versions. My dream narrator for this book (series) would be Khristine Hvam.
I’d probably buy both if the narrator is decent. I love audiobooks but on the second read-through, I like to search for certain phrases and reread things once I have the context for things and this is much easier on kindle.
Thank you so much for any books you decide to write!
And for the dinner inspiration 🥰
There is no pre-order of the print version in the UK…. (?)
Is the audiobook going to be available for pre order soon?
Mary Carter says
Oh, I am looking forward to this !! I find the premise so compelling !!
Will per-orders for print copies of Blood Heir be available anywhere other than Amazon?
^^I would be interested in this too. I realize there may not be a lot of different options at the moment, but I’m trying my best to not pay Amazon if I can help it.
Will I be able to order Blood Heir from Bookshop.org for print pre-order?
Mary Carter says
I preordered immediately!
Aaawww Conlan is so adorable!
But the poor cheese is now a hostage!
Good luck with edits, loved the snippet, Conlan is wonderful.
Series or an awesome addition to KD Universe, whatever, I’m looking forward to it!
Do sales numbers that help determine sequels depend on print vs ebook numbers? Not sure if you have answered Thai previously.
I would just like to say that I enjoy your books very much and will happily read and purchase them for as long as you are writing them for. I also understand and respect the business side of writing and the fact that when the muse stops it is over. I much prefer a writer to end a series rather than to keep one going on until I am sad that I every started to read their books in the first place:) It must be a very difficult decision but I totally respect it and thank you for being up front with us in the fact that you just do not know right now!
Aleea Brewer says
I love your writing and your imagination. My pre-order of Blood Heir has been done a long time back. Hugh has a second book, I have to go look as I don’t have it yet. I’m looking forward to Conlan’s story too. He will be something special when he grows up.
Thank you very much for the snippet! I always enjoy learning about the secret life of siblings. LOL
I hope the sales go beyond your expectations or mine!
Would love it to be a series!😄
STEPHANIE HOWELL says
I look forward to finding out what the fur kid can really do. : D
I just squawked like a freaking bird when I saw the word PRINT
I’ve had this pre-ordered since July. So why us this just “now available” for pre order?
Did I get a fake listing or something?
oh derp. 🤪
PRINT pre-order. 🤦♀️
Patricia Schlorke says
Thank you for the Conlan and Julie comedy hour. 😁
What will be the next hostage? The eggs? The ham and bacon?
Now that I read the snippet, my mind is whirring with the possibilities of a Ryder series, where Conlan continues to grow up….and then a CONLAN series (as a young adult or full on adult) !! Lol, I went the other way completely – but one can dream right??
Hehe! It’s been really fun to watch this “one-shot” turn into a “work in progress posting” turn into a book, turn into a series…. There is so totally going to be a series! The BDH demands it and you guys will give in… even if it’s just to post a one-shot! 🙂
I found out about this through FB, didn’t realize it was going to be independently published and the heartwarming reason why you started it for us KD fans. I’m a long time fan, and reading has always been a wonderful escape. As a doctor under tremendous stress like many of my colleagues, this is a wonderful surprise to give me something to look forward to in 2021. The snippets have been especially timely and uplifting for my mood. I want you to know how appreciated this book will be and the joy it has already given me. Thank you.
May God bless and keep you and your colleagues…
Best wishes to you and your colleagues!
Bill G says
Love it; thank you!
Sigh. . . you are too kind.
Will this be an audio book with Renee too?
While I *hope* for a series, I’m just so hyped up for any additions to the KD world, and *especially* a Julie book. Also, I am WAY excited that we get more page time with Conlan! I was very nervous that he’d stay away while she was in hiding and that we would never get to spend time with him. Conlan is such a cool character. His relationship with Julie/Aurelia is guaranteed to be really special.
Congratulations on the print pre-orders!
Bliss Crimson the Mooncatx says
Your snippets make me hungry.
+1 where did I put that jalapeno…?
Patricia Schlorke says
Yes! I made a ham sandwich today, and I do not even like ham.
Thanks so much! In the interest of your income and possible future writings, I’ve just ordered the print version. Since my eyes can’t handle paper (two different distances), I’d already ordered the e-reader version when first available. So, I’ll gift this to someone as I always do with HA print books (trying to entice more readers!!!).
Best of luck with sales and may this be another NYT Bestseller!
Yay! Amazon has finally seen the light with respect to print pre-orders! I already pre-ordered the digital version back when it first became available, and I just pre-ordered the print version for myself and put it on the library’s order as well.
I enjoy Conlan and look forward to reading more about him when the book releases. Until then, I’ll be re-reading the snippet 🙂
Gaaah I need more. How many years is it till January?…(insert dramatic sigh).
On the other hand, if I do a reread of the KD series and pace myself(snort), it should make the time go by fast…probably.
Valerie in CA says
Not only do I buy a copy my local library buys 5-6 and electronic copies. All based in mine and others recommending the purchase
Thank you so much for sharing your plans 🙂 In Canada there’s no option to pre-order the paperback. When I click on the paperback option, I get a “Temporarily out of stock” message.
Aww so sweet to see the sibling interaction. Went back and checked for the upteenth time that I have Blood Heir pre-ordered. Can wait for January.
It seriously took me a minute when looking at my pre-order to my kindle as well as my print pre-order (because I really like print books I can hold in my hand) to realize that I had already pre-ordered Blood Heir for my kindle. Amazon kept asking me if I wanted to cancel my pre-order.
I kept trying to order something I had already ordered.
I should have had my coffee before I started the yard work.
Now I shall enjoy my coffee and you guys are wonderful. Thank you !

Crap. Either this site really does hate me or my computer has the hiccups again. Or possibly both.
I pre-ordered Blood Heir as soon as it was listed for my Kindle. As I believe I’ve mentioned often enough to bore you stiff, Julie and Derek are my favorites among the secondary characters in the Kate Daniels series, and you have provided more than enough justification for them to have their own series. I will happily buy any book you write about them, and hope enough copies of Blood Heir sell to provide you reason to do so.
Love the snippet. I had a pain in the ass little brother myself. Still have the brother, but he’s in his 60s now and not so much a pain as he was when we were kids.
Will this be available in Canada ? The pre order says its not.
I’ll give you cheese if you post the rest of the scene! LOL! You guys are the best. Thanks for the snippet. 🙂
Diana ^.^ says
Ahhh I love seeing their relationship in action. 😍
Conlan has magic! I figured he would but to see his control over it! 🤯
Thank you! Counting down days until the book pops up in my kindle ❤❤❤
Jude C says
Love Conlan! Are the print copies available outside of the USA?
This is the classic example of inelastic demand. I already pre-ordered the Kindle version. Today I pre-ordered the print version – even it is more than I usually pay for paperbacks and even though I am completely out of space in the house and likely to collapse the foundation with the weight of my books (only slight hyperbole) – to support the campaign for more Julie+Derek books. I am HERE for this. They are two of my side characters and I am rooting for their HEA.
As an aside, I am re-listening to the KD series on audiobook (Yes, I bought it in print, electronic, and audio – insanity) and just realized Beau Clayton talks about taking a woman to the same hotel that Andrea and Rafael had the poolside “incident.” I want to know more about Beau Clayton. Also Doolittle.
Ed to add: They area two of my *favorite* side characters.
Richard Barkley says
I will buy an additional hard copy of Julie I if you agree to Julie II (I already bought a Kindle copy of Julie I). The reasons I like almost all of your books are (a) I like almost all of the characters you create, (b) you are excellent at creating interesting plots, and (c) the stories for the most part are well done and well written. The only series I am not crazy about is the Hugh series (I still have bought, and will continue to buy it, because of the other interesting characters and, of course, the great story you have created). You did a good job, a really good job, of making Hugh a villain in the Kate series and the efforts to rehabilitate him have not been completely successful, at least to me. But I would love more Julie, and more about George and Jack and Lark. Although they have been developed in the Edge series (and make cameo appearances in the Innkeeper series), their stories still cry out for further elaboration.
Is there a way to see how many preorders you have? So if we know, we can help spread the word?
Reminds me of a line from another book: “I don’t negotiate with terrorists.” How dare he hold the cheese hostage?! 😩😩😩
Patricia Schlorke says
That was from Magic Triumphs when he didn’t want to eat the oatmeal Kate made.
At least he stopped singing the sad song of his people. 😁
Thank you! 😂😂 That was Conlan too?? I see a decade doesn’t make /that/ much difference. 😆
OMG. Love love love Conlan. Curiosity of a cat 🐈 never liked secrets. 😂
Can’t wait for January
So excited! I just pre-ordered the paperback (and fingers crossed it becomes a series). My birthday is the day before the release date so it’s a bday present to myself!
Don’t read snippets while hungry 😋. Now I want a ham sandwich. Thank you for the snippet and the updates!
I KNOW! I want tomatoes in my omelet.
If the rest of Kate Daniel’s readers are like me who owns a copy of every single Ilona Andrews audiobooks and has listened to the whole Kate Daniel’s series at least 5 times then my money is on that it will be a series lol.
Cute!!! Thank you!!! So excited for the book!
*whispers, “it will work every time”*
You know what they say about speaking your truth to the universe…
I love new version of Conlan. I can see Curran and Kate in him now.
Love love love every book! Got them all, and now this one. Please always offer paper print!
Angela Knight says
I’ve also preordered it. Yumminess!
Hi, @Angela Knight! I hope you are doing well.
Yes, We will get Blood Heir and 2 and 3…
In my head you have 4 different books in the pipeline.
Blood Heir,Ruby Flames(2022)
Hugh and Elara2 ? And Innkeeper with Klaus.
Then you have to work out all the time frames and business deals involving these books. Stress and pressure .
Hopefully you will get the time you need to accomplish each book to you exacting standards.
I love your books, I buy and read them over and over again.
Keep writing, we will keep reading and buying.
So excited for this!! Will there be an Audible version? And if so, who will the narrator be?
Oh, but please please please make it a series?!?!?!?!!!!! I promise, I’ll buy it! I’d even buy a print copy, but I only have a tiny apartment and can only read large format books. Kindle, the wonder that allows people with small apartments and poor eyesight continue the habits that caused both!!!
Caught hook, line and sinker!!! but unfortunately getting print books to New Zealand can be almost as expensive as the book so I have pre ordered for my Kindle. Thanks you for the little snippets really enjoy them.
I love that she’s getting interaction with Conlan!
Thank you for the except!
I would buy the 10s of thousands of copies of I could just to get more Aurelia Ryder stories.
Hope springs eternal with both Fandom and the future. 😁
David Suitor says
So – how does one preorder a book? Is Julie having little brother problems? Would his participation queer the deal, so to speak? Conlon is a little boy with fantastic skills but a little boy’s outlook on the world.
My vote is for a series. After all, this was introduced as the first of stories about Knight Ryder. Actually it’s the second book of the series. The first would be the novella about Julie and Derek. I fully understand the financial requirements for additional books. My brother and I will continue to support your efforts financially.
My mother always said “You can create your own reality”
So I am visualizing a reality with a Ryder series in it 🧘♂️ 😉
Thanks for the snippet
May Blood Heir sell even more “shockingly well” than Maud’s book did! Looking forward to this book. Thank you.
I think Kate and Curran should have a little girl. Conlan isn’t a baby anymore, so they have the time to raise her. And a Female First would be Fun!!!!!!!!!
Jackie Ward says
Good news guys , print copy out of stock on Amazon will try again in few days
Lynn Thompson says
Thank you, Ilona Andrews for the snippet.
What will be , will be. It is your and Gordon’s story/ book worlds. I have had the privilege of reading and enjoying them. Thank you for sharing those worlds.
Thank you too for the snippets as we have dealt with Covid-19 pandemic and the chaos of a national election here in USA. Personally the snippets have made my days some days. A reason to laugh or cry or whatever. Thank you.
Richard Cartwright says
“four book series…?” Those are rookie numbers. Y’all are pros. At least 8 books.
Says the guy who doesn’t have to research, write, market and most of all make time to do said research, writing, etc. for said 8 books. 🙂
Seriously, as much as I hate to say it as that would cause delays in the Innkeeper books, I hope the book does well enough to spark a second generation KD universe series.
Kelly Jacobs says
If I order a Dead tree book on this Link will it be autograph?
( I know in 2021 y’all will have nothing better to do than to sign book plates.)
I like to purchase at least 2 copies, I one for my kindle and 1 autographed for my dead tree library.
Wheeeee! That was awesome! Have the ebook on preorder! So looking forward to this!
Marie S says
It gets better and better. Thank you.
I really thought you had decided to write a series as it says ‘Book 1’ . I’m wising for massive success after that publishing reality check. Of course it needs to do well. I need to get out of my own fantasy.
Vicki LENOIR says
Sigh. My amazon.fr is saying that neither paper or kindle is available for preorder….
While waiting for that, can anyone tell me how old Conan is actually, and physical age équivalent (since shifters are physically advanced yes? Or am I confusing authors’ worlds now?) Thany you all in advance…
Conlan, sigh, Conlan!
Is it possible to order via Amazon.co.uk or is it just USA?
Great snippet 🙂
Sue Gundel says
I found it on Amazon.co.uk
Sue Gundel says
Sorry-it’s only in ebook on the UK Amazon site. I wasn’t looking very closely when I pulled up the website.
Thank you so much! I needed that before going to bed.
Can’t wait for it to arrive in Jan 2021
– tasters are working too well!
I love how you think this wouldn’t sell well enough to make it into a series. Don’t you know we are called the BDH. I have no doubts so I’m so very excited. I have re-read all your books/series more than 5 times each. I have never done that for anybody else. Your writing is exceptional, thoughtful and entertaining. Can’t wait.
Is there a signed pre order link?
Love Julie and Conlan together, such a nice domestic scene with breskfast preparation. Then add in magic spider-spheres and a cheese-hostage situation and a very astute cat and there you have the perfect recipe to brighten my day. Thank you.
This is clearly a series. If it doesn’t I’ll eat my shoe.
Also banking on a Conlan series one day in the future..
The grease can on the back of the stovetop (it was an empty Folgers can). That takes me WAY back.
For some reason, my thought was, “she cut the cheese”. I’ll put the inner 14 year old boy away now and go adult.
With Blood Heir, Ruby Fever, the next Hugh book and the next Innkeeper book (SN and Klaus threads are dangling and taunting me!), I realize your plates are pretty full for quite a while.
But we just can’t get enough of your awesome writing – it’s your own faults for being so good! 😄
Not sure if you guys are aware, but recently I’ve had a fun little romp with printing and found Chinese and Hong Kong Book Printing companies offer prices like $2 – $3 per copy. You have to pay bulk overseas shipping which I found wasn’t all that much especially when minimum order requirement were like 1,000 – 2,000 copies. I see the 14.99 price tag and it is a company ripping you off price unless that is hardcover book. This is not an attack against you the authors because I’ve been dealing with this with my self-publishing experience so I truly understand. This is just a recommendation.
I’ve looked into it and there is a very tiny handful of book publishers that print in the states.
Amazon Print to order is as dirty as they come. They require you to request your royalty and then make that 60% of the print price, then add the book price on top of that. It is a SERIOUS SCAM Amazon and many print-to-order companies have going.
Travis, you are suggesting that we have 20,000 books printed, pay for shipping, store the books, take individual orders, and then fill these orders, shipping the books during pandemic. Let’s not even mention the distribution nightmare, which I don’t have time to explain. Sufficient to say that people prefer to order books at their favorite retailers and not making them available at those retailers creates a lot of negativity associated with your brand.
What happens if the Chinese shipment gets delayed, stuck at customs, or cancelled due to the issues on their end? And there are issues, which is why major publishers are now printing books in Europe. If these issues occur, what are we going to do with 10,000 people screaming and calling me ugly names because the book isn’t available in time?
We are writers, not book sellers. Our time is much better spent on writing the next book.
US POD is not a scam. You’re paying for convenience and wide distribution in US. You are paying for US quality and supporting a US business. Amazon is allowed to make a profit. Their pricing policies are quite clear. If outsourcing works for you, great. Having sold thousands and thousands of books through Amazon POD and extensively reviewed the offers of their competitors, we are satisfied with our current distribution model.
Thank you for clarifying. Sorry if I upset you. Hard to look at the pricing policy and feel okay sometimes.
Please know I was not saying ANYTHING about the price on the website. I’ve done the calculation enough to know how slim the profit margin is on the POD copy you are selling.
I went to go pre-order late last night & imagine my surprise when I saw that it was available in print! YAY!!! If you need suggestions for the title of book 2 in the series, just let me know. BTW- I already made shelf space for my new pretties. *looks away whistling and acting like it was always the plan for a multi-book Julie series*
But seriously, thank you for writing this as I’ve seriously been missing the Kate Daniels world. I love all the snippets!
April White says
Thank you for the snippet!
I really want a print copy for my collection.
I have a question if it’s impolite please forgive me.
Will you be offering print copies through small bookstores like you did with Emerald Blaze?
If so, I will wait to place my order in hopes of getting a signed copy. I know that is a lot of extra trouble for you, so I understand completely if that is not an option this time.
Don’t do it, Julie! The kid won’t keep his mouth shut!!
Thanks for such a nice snippet. Here’s hoping this eventually becomes a new series. I have so many questions! Anticipation is killing me, really!
I do hope you both have enjoyed this venture back into Kates world.
It says currently unavailable 🙁

I’ll happily preorder the paperback on Amazon if that’s the platform of choice. If House Andrews sells directly from their website, I’d also happily preorder from there too. I know these platforms take a large cut and am more than happy to have the creators get more of their well-earned profits.
Their interaction made me smile like a fool. Thank you!
aw yes! more conlan!
I gotta admit, it’s a little weird knowing more than the narrator. Assuming the implied shenanigans with Asciano are the same as what Sophie described in the old version.
I used the number four in a comment to the previous post in the context of having to wait 4 books for Derek & Julie to hook up. I used that number as an example because that’s how long it took Curran & Kate to mate.
I did not say 4 books because I expected a 4 book series. . . clearly it could be and hopefully will be a series much longer that 4 books.
I didn’t mean any pressure or presumption by talking about a series. I took my cue from the fact that it is listed under the “Series” heading and Amazon has listed it as Book 1.
Ilona also mentioned that the flare may not happen in this book & that’s probably when the final resolution will occur with Moloch at least according to the first version of the prophecy. I assumed this book would just cover Hayward’s murder.
So I totally get that whether there are future books is a business & creative decision. I’m just really hoping for more because I love this world and loose ends drive me insane.
I’m still dying over Technomancer & the betraying uncle from the Edge series whose name starts with an E, & whether Lorelai Wilson survived the castle meltdown and having just read Magic Triumph last night what happened to Bob Carver when the other guild office booted him.
It’s what happens when the worlds you create are so vibrate and real. It just sucks me in. It’s been said before but I will say it again I reread your work far far more than any other offer.
So I will buy & recommend everything you write & be happy for what I get but you can’t stop me from wishing for more.
Best wishes to you on edits, Ruby, Hugh 2, Innkeeper, . . . And lots more Ryder!

Already preordered a long time ago!!! Thanks so much for the new snippet-I love snippets.
Is the print preorder available only on Amazon? I clicked the link and it said unavailable.
Thank you for the snippet! and good luck with the edits! I have the day marked in my calendar and I am so excited to read Julie’s book! x

Hey now wait a second! The book was titled as #1. What are we to think, other than that you love us and want us to be happy?
Thank you…food…the way to a shapeshifter’s heart. So great to know Julie and Conlan has this close sibling relationship.
….And Conlan has magic abilities!!!
I would love to know more of how Kate and Curran relate to Conlan’s gifts….
And has Conlan got a little sister yet?
Oooh such a serious intense little boy. With a mom like Kate and dad like Curran there’s no other way he could’ve come out hahaha
In Kate’s world, if enough people believe in something, it starts to become real. Maybe if enough of us believe in a Ryder series . . . . . . . .🙏😉
Thank you for the additional snippet. The best thing about your storytelling is that it feels like I’m there; I could almost smell the sizzling ham and bacon.
I hope the book sells like crazy, Conlan and Julie are adorable siblings. Plus, I’m wondering what Erra and Roland are up to, because heads of dynasties don’t go quietly into the night…
Why is Conlan more grown up than I am, and I’m 33? I’m so excited for this book, I can’t wait!!! I love that kid!!!
“The control required to achieve this would make the sages back at New Shinar giddy with joy.”
Heck, that made ME giddy with joy! Also made me wonder what it would be like to have a future series where the PoV is primarily from the male lead character.
Print link isn’t working in Canada.
Also, Julie vs Hugh…
Julie wins for me
Print preorder still not available in Canada
Amazon lists it as Book 1, so I was hopeful.

So sad. I can only pre-order on Kindle in the UK
House Andrews: If BLOOD HEIR does well and proves to be a viable opening to a series, there will be a series… This isn’t an underhanded plot to make you go buy the second copy.
BDH: Challenge Accepted!
So exciting, thank you! Being able to read Blood Heir clear through when it comes out will be a delight. I would of course love it if this became a series, but I fully respect that it’s your choice.
Someone mentioned a daughter of Kate and Curran.. I have wondered as well why Conlan didn’t get any more siblings.. Curran mentioned in one of the last scenes that they should get another one and Kate replied, maybe when Conlan is a little older.
Maybe just me that half expected Conlan to have a little headstrong sister or brother at this point 🙂
I voted for Emerald Blaze in the Goodreads contest. I think it was in the Romance section.
Tiger Lily says
Emerald Blaze is in the Romance section of the Goodreads contest and is in the semifinal rounds. When I first went there, at the suggestion of one of the BDH, to vote for the first level we had to actually write in Emerald Blaze because it was not included in the list of choices. Think of how many people had to write it in for it to have moved on to this level. That means a bunch of folks love your writing(:
I didn’t know you write-in was an option. Dang it. I’ll pick it next round.
This book promises to be intriguing, captivating, and fun to read. But a series? Hmmm.. Let’s see. Innkeeper, waiting for resolution. Catalina’s tale coming when it gets here. Arabella’s tale presumed to be on the way. Hugh’s story to be continued when the world is not so grim. When the hell are you supposed to find time to write all those books and still have time to eat, sleep, and bathe? I’m just sorry that Catalina’s book has been delayed. Her world is something I can imagine a little bit, and I love the characters very much. I understand why you can’t get bogged down working on only one series too many times in a row, but to begin a new one? I think Blood Heir will be a hit, as all your books are, and why you worry about it is beyond me. But I’m deep into the others, and I really would like to see the closings of those.
Was that worth 2¢?

Will it be available on Ingram so I can order copies in for our bookshop in the UK?
Happy Veteran’s Day! Thank you for your service and for the snippet.
I’m already thinking about a Conlan series. Can you even imagine???

I’m rereading the series just for something to read between now and January, and I must say: it’s so much fun, the way you wrote Curran’s early dialogue with Kate so that on first reading he comes across as such an arrogant jerk, as he did to her…and on rereading you know it’s just his weirdo sense of humor.
I just want to wish Gordon a happy Veterans Day. Thank you for your service.
My dad was in the Navy during World War 2. He was stationed at Pensacola and mainly worked on getting the planes air worthy to fly to Europe.
He worked with several women on the base . He told my Mom they were extremely dedicated and their small hands helped them to do the very precise and difficult work on the planes.
My dad kept asking to get transferred to Europe but the Admiral said he was needed for his work on radar and radio instruments on the planes.
I always say a prayer and thank my dad for his service on this day.
Whoo hoo! Preordered! (Dancing happily)
This has nothing to do with the print preorder. I saw this mold company and they have a lion mold and a wolf mold that are incredibly detailed. I thought you might like to look at them.
Vonnie Starr says
If you build it, they will come.
lol if you tell your authors it is a four book series…
Are we doing the Goodreads voting thing for Emerald Blaze?
Hey IA Which book are you going to write next?
Since hidden legacy is scheduled for 2022.
RUBY FEVER. Because of COVID, it will take over a year to get it into publication.
Thanks for replying ❤️
Everyone knows that “We’ll talk about it” is just the adult’s traitorous way of getting what they want without promising anything. It’s right up there with, “Do X forest and then we’ll see.”
At this point in this, do you think you will do a promotional thing like you did for Emerald Blaze?
Mary Beth says
I’m looking forward to this book as a personal celebration of 2021.
Ham sandwich… egg scramble… I’m going to have to go downstairs for a nice brunch now.
Hi- Emerald Blaze is up for best romance on Goodreads. So, everyone vote!!
At this point the entire Horde is focusing their mental powers on getting the universe to transform this book into a series. If magic was real an entire tower full of Ilona Andrews books would suddenly appear into existence. The books may or may not bite snarky readers who whine too much on forums.
House Andrews would get the power of writting faster than the speed of light but sadly become imprisoned in the dungeon beneath the tower. It would be a super plushy dungeon though. Full of tea, yummy food, tons of yarn and various cuddly animals. We are not monsters after all 🙂
I love snippet days!! And my husband really likes them too, even though he (voice dropping to a pained whisper) doesn’t read fantasy. (It’s a mixed marriage.) He likes snippet days because, he says, watching me do my happy dance is amusing enough to put him in a good mood for the rest of the day. 🙂 So thanks for the pleasure I get from reading anything IA dishes up, the aerobic exercise of my happy dance, and the marital boost of shared amusement. And hooray for a Julie and Conlan moment, both magical and mundane.
In addition to my pre-order, I’ll go to my library’s website and request that they place an order too.
I probably won’t take advantage of the print pre-order, but if there is an audio book or e-book, I will definitely purchase them (both, if both are available). I just don’t have room for print books, now that I’m retired.
BTW, we’re still waiting for Hugh Book 2.
Megan W. says
Nope. No preorder. I’ve been caught by that multiple times and I have to say it stops here. I’ve got two books in preorder limbo right now…
I apologize for whining, but I have pre purchased books in the past and lo and behold the publication date was postponed. And due to some reason or another my credit card was updated so then the card I used to pre purchase the book was invalid. La la la, so I had to call and deal with the auto response phone call where I finally yelled, “A PERSON! I WANT TO TALK TO A PERSON!!”
No. No offense, it’s not worth the hassle.
So, I will be one of those folks who buy your book on the publication day. Trust me, there will be a lot of us. A LOT.
And you might as well start on the sequel. And a couple more. This book will be number one on the day it’s published, or even before that.
Love your books. Got them all in multiple formats. And, hey, don’t listen to those negative ninnies. The BDH love you and will buy anything you make available.
Would you consider a follow on short story about Charlotte and Richard? I’d love to know how Charlotte is healing and how the family is doing. Thanks for what you do. You make my life better. I appreciate it.
Megan W. says
Whoops, I put this response in the wrong place. Sorry.
However, I wish to concur that we are waiting for Hugh 2. No hassle, of course, since anything (ANYTHING) you make available or publish is great, but I’d really like to know Elara’s back story.
Thanks for all you do to help us make it through this difficult time.
Will this be sold on bookshop from independent book stores?
Omg I cant wait!! You’re books have gotten me through the pandemic. Thank you for your awesome stories!!
I would also very much like to know of there is another Kate&Curran baby.
Oh, we are all waiting for more.
Thank you for all the wonderful books!

Are you going to be selling signed copies? If so where?

I put in my digital and print orders and now repeatedly check audible for the narrated copy!!!!!! Thank you House Andrews for some much needed good news to look forward to come January!!!!
When I click on the link to read the first chapter it says Ryder Book 1 of the Ryder series… So is it or isn’t a series?
Hi! Is the Pint Preorder for Blood Heir open yet or was I just too late with my order? Or maybe it’s not available to deliver to NZ with everything and all?
Love the snippets!
Jenèe Nojima says
I just wanted to say thank you for the happiness that you guys have provided this year. It’s been really appreciated.
I’ve tried new recipes because of you. They were a hit which means they go into the rotation. New teas to order and try.
I have a lot of catch up reading to do between now and January. I haven’t read all of the KD books. I did pre-order 2 copies of Blood Heir because Julie has been one of my favorite characters. Also, it’s nice to get in on the ground floor of a new series. 😉
Thank you once again for all the hard work that you put into writing all of your various endeavors.
May God bless you and keep you.
