Jayyyy!!!! Too true!
Anna says
Love the added ending, thanks!
Faith says
The family can now come over for lunch!
Or possibly for support during massive chaotic events when they could use and extra hand, or five.
Oh…. Maybe a short story where Orro goes to cook lunch for ‘the family’ and chaos ensues over the last donut (coffee flavored that is)
Sabrina says
Congratulations on the new book! And thank you ????
Siobhan says
Waaaaaah! I want more story! I want the story of Dina’s father! I want her to confront the assembly again about Sebastián North!
I do love the new door, too. More Maud & Helen!
Saracai Larsen says
Gaaaahhh!!! This ending was everything!!! I screamed and cried and danced while reading it! I was absolutely obsessed with the weekly serial right from the start, and now I get to have the whole book to read over and over again. I recommend this series to EVERYONE I can talk books with.
I love these authors, I love this series, and I love this book. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Moderator R says
Yay!
SO happy you enjoyed it!

AHHHHHH THAT ENDING!!!! I am doing all the thrilled screaming and flailing!!
Cris Reads says
I’ve been waiting for this post. The Magnolia “situation” was heartbreaking. THANK YOU for the attached hope ???? I liked the little changes you made throughout the story. I have so many feelings right now, I just can add BARSA ❣️
Wendy says
I loved the Magnolia ending. I was hoping that Magnolia was just kidnapped but safe. So sad what happened.
Mary Matthesen says
When they came thru the gate and the floor was wood…. little voice in my head started chanting “oh no oh no oh no, it’s an Inn!” ????
Heartbreaking how Magnolia Green supported her to the end. And so happy Gertrude Hunt grew a quick door to visit Maud and Helen!
Natasha says
Same…I was pacing around, going oh no oh no. Because I just knew.
Wendy says
I was so sad another inn would die. The sprout reminded me of groot
Emilye says
So how did he separate the inn from her parents? I mean I was delighted to know Dina’s hope wasn’t misplaced, but there are still more questions!? Gah!
Don’t worry, just means there is at least one more Innkeeper ????
Jaime says
BARSA barsa BARSAAAAA!!!
Michael says
I KNEW IT!!!! I’d hoped that where the door went!!! Happy to be happy! ????
Megan Daley says
the ending!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
K says
+1 to infinity!!!!

I so agree!!!!!!

Happy Book Birthday!
I skipped ahead to the ending and it is amazing.
Love that you left in the recaps at the start of each chapter
Thank you so much.
Antoniya says
I’ve got a question.
1. Maud was there when Dina brought the corpse of the corrupted innkeeper/ad-hal Michael. She saw the corruption that wanted to infect the inn and Dina.
2. Maud remembered the Mukama that wanted to eat her in her parents’ inn because of her magic.
3. Maud displayed ad-hal powers.
4. Maud realised that the Mukona attacked the wedding hunt because of Helen and her magic.
Did Maud make the connection between the corruption and the Mukama’s need to eat the ad-hal magic? Did Maud call Dina to inform her? If not… WHY? She should warn her sister ASAP!
Moderator R says
That’s a loooooot of speculation 🙂
We’re going to keep to Dina’s side of the story for now until we hear from Maud again 😉
Antoniya says
Well… 。^‿^。 The Innkeeper Chronicles are my comfort (re)read ♡
Korwyn says
Me too. Have re-read them at least five times start to finish.
Carmen Sigalet says
Love the Innkeeper series I read them again and again it’s like visiting a friend
PILAR says
Absolutely adored Kosandion planned the whole contest from the start to win his lady. It was a courtship all along. He’s as single-minded AND shrewd as his aunt.
The ending blew me away. I guessed that door led to Helen but now I question if Gertrude Hunt, indeed all the Inns, are connected somehow? Was GH preparinbg for Magnolia’s arrival?
So the Assembly know what happened to Dina’s parents? Is it tied to their control of the Inns magic? Are there Inns on other planets??
Tina in NJ says
My take on the Innkeeper Assembly is that it is a loosely affiliated group of mostly independent Innkeepers. Its main functions are to present a united front to the rest of the galaxy/universe and to enforce the Treaty. It also administers things like matching abandoned Inns with Innkeepers. Within their own Inn, each Innkeeper reigns supreme. With something as unique as the grafting of one Inn to another, the Assembly would not be able to simply let it be. Some members of the Assembly would just have to poke their noses in and flex their authority.
Mary Beth says
I loved the way Dina shut down the two other Innkeepers who were mad at how well she was managing the Spouse selection. They seem to think they can push her around, and it makes me wonder why.
I also wonder a lot about their collective authority. If they refused to tell her the truth about Sebastian North, what reason did they have?
The Assembly can’t be that obtuse about a real threat to their survival. Something’s a bit hinky there. Can’t wait to find out what the Assembly does if Dina confronts them with SN again and doesn’t take a shrug for an answer.
Platypus0Bubbles says
I think the symbiosis that our current villain mentioned is somehow tied to the root of human magic. Maud and Dina didn’t even realize they could do magic outside of the inns until they were forced to by life or death circumstances. There’s no way humans just invited random alien war parties in for tea and a nap without holding some kind of power over their guests. Treaties aren’t that good when the power balance is skewed. Galaxy vs Earth? There’s no way vampires and Otrkars wouldn’t fight over our planet without a good reason not to.
Wendy says
Caldenia must have known that Kosandion liked Lady W. I wonder if she lectured Lady W. during their private conversation
Vicki says
I can imagine Caldenia giving the scariest, yet politest, shovel talk to Wexyn
Carey Crossthwaite says
I’d been wondering about the Mukama and the Corrupted Ad-Hals is there a link??????
Wendy says
That would not surprise me
Matthew says
I think Maud’s got something more to do with this. She’s specifically excluded in the list of the people the corrupted innkeeper has a “problem” with, and that list isn’t just innkeepers because Klaus isn’t one either.
erebor says
Is she? IIRC, he listed everyone- your brother is a problem, your sister is a problem, etc. Helen is unmentioned- perhaps because she is too young to be seen as a threat. (That’s his mistake.)
Emilye says
No. Neither Maude nor Helen were enumerated on his list of problems. It was four deep.
They may be protected in vampire space, because the Holy A defeated the Mukama. Hmmm…
Platypus0Bubbles says
i think she isn’t listed only because she didn’t go looking for her parents with Dina and Klaus. She was in a young marriage trying to prove herself to her in-laws and Helen was only a few months old. She wasn’t in a position to drop everything and go hunting across the galaxy asking pesky questions.
Patricia Schlorke says
Happy book birthday! I’m at the pre-spousal selection where Dina and Sean are gettingthe Inn ready. I’m only that far this morning since the Fort Worth area was under a tornado warning. I had to stop and go to my safe spot. I figured reading could wait until it was safe.
I am okay. No damage around my place. Hopefully other Horde members in the DFW area are ok from this morning’s crazy weather.
Now off to read some more! ????
Moderator R says
May you all stay as safe as if in Gertrude Hunt itself!
Patricia Schlorke says
Thanks Mod R! You stay safe too from what I’ve seen of your weather.
PyeCat says
Really enjoyed the ending, from wrapping up the Galactic Bachelor threads to the heart-wrenching confrontation with Sebastien.
Now Gertrude Hunt has a … sibling? cousin? really good friend? on Daesyn. I’m starting to wonder what they will talk about.
Also wondering just how the security-conscious House Krahr vampires will feel about a portal to their world that they don’t control. Hmmm …
Now I must wrap myself in patience for what comes after that almost-cliffhanger ending. I think the audience for this series will only grow. 🙂
Jennifer says
I don’t think they will be upset about the portal. It’s family on the other side and it’s an INN. Inns never start conflict though they will absolutely stand against it. Heck if they believe in planning for evacuation routes for children in case of invasion, they may be thrilled.
Bj says
I agree
New trade nexus + inn = wealth ( not all wealth is money )
Sharon Peters says
… and it will save House Krahr the time and expense of flying ships back and forth to Earth. And instant access to SO. MUCH. COFFEE.
Mary Beth says
LOL You just made me snort my morning cup through my nose. HA!
Barsa. Barsa-barsa. Barsa!
Libby says
I just can’t wait to see the first Maud/Dina scene on Daesyn. And what will Lady Illemina think? And Caldenia!!!! I’m squeeing over all the possibilities because I can never guess what HouseAndrews will do next. Thank you too, Mod R, for herding the BDH and for organizing this truly magical holiday surprise!
Moderator R says
I had no hand in organising, it’s all House Andrews magic and a LOT of work!
And the surprises continue!
Carey Crossthwaite says
ditto
Libby says
Squeeing not squeezing. Forgive me, my phone is new and it still has an attitude about my fan girl words.
Moderator R says
Fixed 🙂
Susi says
Woohoo, thanks so much!
I skipped to the ending – loved it! Back to devour the rest of the book now.
Great to have Maud so close now – when’s the wedding? Is Klaus still on Daesyn? Is it time for a family reunion?
M says
Some zoom questions:
1) Did Sebastian North give the baby inn seed to the villains in ONE FELL SWEEP?
2) I don’t understand why Maud didn’t tell Dina about meeting Klaus. You’re not going to answer this one but I might as well try. ????
3) why is Dina’s father called the Wanderer?
4) any chance that IA will ever write Gerard and Helen’s (parents) story? They sound so interesting from what we’ve seen in the books and that 1 chapter bonus material on the blog.
Moderator R says
You can try, indeed 😀
Added to the Zoom list!
Natasha Johnson says
I was wondering that also about her father it almost sounds like a Title.
H says
Wait what how when where why…huh? All awesomeness and I will begin rereading just after I post this. Love the story obviously but the end….WHAT!!! Where are her parents? How DARE that REALLY BAD WORD person do that to the Magnolia Green. It breaks my heart. The imagery might have hit harder because I have been that person that found that animal that has been through so much and was with them when all they need was a kind gesture. The reason I hate people that abuse or neglect animals or people. The REALLY BAD WORD person just got away. Did Dina get to kill the corupt core before he disappeared? I am not sure, will be rereading entire story soon. I will say what better place for Magnolia Green to go to then a space where it can reach both Maud and Dina. Which is sweet. Also the fact that the REALLY BAD WORD person (aka RBW person, yes I could now say bad guy or S.N. but really really do not like that guy and want to still be respectful of other BDH members who do not want to read curse words, Do not abuse INNs!!) that RBW person did not list Maud as a threat like he did the rest of Dina’s family, that was stupid of him and I am looking forward to Maud showing him why discounting her even if she is not in role of typical Innkeeper was misguided. Love the story but since reading the story as it was written along with everyone else the end with the RBW person is making me anxious.
A more fun look at the story…what is Maud going to say when she see Dina and Sean just walking up to the castle? How will the House react to surprised visitors? Once they realize whom it is I am sure it will be fine but until then it will be interesting. What is Magnolia Green capable of? I know they(neutral pronoun but Inns are awesome so I do not want to say it) are not an Inn but a special Inn-Tree hypbrid. Could Magnolia Green now produce Inn seeds for future Inns? I know Inn seeds are rare. Can Magnolia Green Inn-Tree hybrid conceal themselves from anyone being able to identify the specialness of Inn-Tree? There is no way you can hide that Dina and Sean just magically showed up and that Maud and crew can instantaneously show up at Gertude Hunt.
I will stop here….this is probably more than anyone wanted to read. After one last thing while the awesome HA and Mod R are very careful to emphasize that until it is on the release schedule not to expect anything coming out. That being said could we know if the next continuation of the story is going to be online weekly serial read or novel put out at once? I am not asking for date or rushing I was just curious about format. I do like our FrINNday’s either way.
H says
I will say that I could never do Mod R’s job. I would read whatever story was out and then have to go into seclusion so that I would not pester the wonderful HA for answers. I am not patient as a card caring member of BDH that is not surprising. Mod R has will power made of steel and is undoubtably the most patient member of the BDH.
Marijke van Nieuwstadt says
Maud might be in more danger. The corruption seems especially dangerous to them. And their magic.
Amy says
Thank you for number 6. Where are the parents is the question. When is the next book is another question. Things have been rough in our household with Covid infecting me and two sons. Plus my mom who has dementia broke her hip and I cannot be there. So this book was a bright light.
Moderator R says
So happy you had an escape! *Hugs*
Dorothy Sizemore says
By the door opening to where Maud is the inn who loves Dina beyond all has given her a way to see her family and keep a piece of her childhood. What a truly great ending. Now the wait for the next one begins. Thank you so much for making my stay in cardiac rehab enjoyable today. May the seasons joy be with you all.
Tom says
Brilliant; a stunning crescendo to a great symphony!
Really enjoyed the final chapter – Mod R was right (as always!) – it was well, well worth the wait! (And also the extra bits at the Inn at the end of Chapter 27 – they were great too.)
I loved the name of her Parent’s Inn (had we been told that before?); and the moment they went through the portal, it had to be an Inn, and the only missing one we knew of..
But as always, more questions – how many Inns are missing… or did SN just take the Ad Hal training academy (I seem to recall being told in a past work that we don’t know how Ad Hal are trained, they just disappear and then reappear fully trained), and corrupt all of those who were there – because surely the Assembly must’ve noticed all of the missing Ad Hals if SN’s been around for a bit!
One more Innkeeper to polish off the story? Are we that close, it feels like we should be; A Final Sweep of the Broom?
Time for a second read!
Thank you!
Moderator R says
That’s correct, I *AM* always right! Hehehe.
We were not told Green Magnolia’s name before. An ending to the series has not been announced, so we can keep hoping for many stories to come! 🙂
Tom says
Definitely hoping! But I wasn’t meaning in terms of books being announced, more as in the arc of the missing inn/parents/SN storyline – it feels closer to the grand finale of that than it did before Sweep of the Heart – more a general ‘how many stories/books/whatevers, do you feel are needed to finish off that arc’ type question – maybe one for the zoom?
Although, equally I can understand HA not wanting to answer that one – I hate to think what the BDH would mutate into if HA did a GRRM and said ‘only two more books to go’…probably safer just not to know and to be pleasantly surprised!
One serious question for the Zoom list though please…. if I’m on one of the worlds that an Inn has a branch to – what do I see if I look back at the Inn itself? We know the Baha-char is a door in an alley; and now we have a tree on Daesyn – but what did the Pirate Ship see when it attacked the Inn? Did it just see the Ocean Dining Room sitting there all by itself – or does the outside of the Dining Room walls look like something that should be there? (Or the Hunting lodge – does that look like an Earth Hunting Lodge just plonked down in the snow?)
Sorry, really random question poorly worded!
Linda_T says
Loved the ending!
Now I’m happily imagining Helen and all her friends making the magnolia into their special tree fort and having many grand adventures up in its branches. You know Helen is now super, extra cool because she had innkeeper magic and a family connection to that magnolia tree. Can’t you just see her up there reconfiguring all the play spaces to the amazement of her friends? ????????????
Samantha Chang says
I want Helen to drag all her friends to the inn and make them watch her change the room… see if anyone calls her a liar then!
No broken arms required.
Linda_T says
Sorry! Didn’t mean to post my comments as a reply to yours.
Good question about how the doors are visible to others in those worlds. I’ve often wondered what landmark the desert nomads looked for from their side when they stopped by the inn for water. But they probably travel on set pathways and trust Dina to have the door open, waiting to welcome them.

starting at 00:00: 01 this morning (that’s one second past midnight) EST today I started obsessively punching the cover of Heart on my Nook app.
They were slow–it took me ten whole seconds to get it to open up. I then hugged my tablet for a full minute because I could finally read the whole book from start to finish, including the long awaited rescue part.
I was all the way up to chapter 10 when my husband rolled over, growled, “You have to get up at 8 am, which is only 6 hours from now. turn off the tablet and go to sleep. ”
“But, but,” I protested, turning the tablet towards him and pointing at the printing on its screen.
“Put it away, turn off the lights and let me and the cats have a shot at some sleep.”
I figured when Husband Faction was clearly dropping fast I’d better wait until daylight to read ant more. It’s now 13:13 and I haven’t been able to get back to it until now. And I still need to do some drooling over the Merch. Hard decision time — which to do first??? Read, then shop. Shopping will always wait for the more important activities of reading and catching up on reading.
(Covering face with badly applied camo make-up, piling up blankets, quilts and pillows into a heap and diving under them so I can’t be found.) Wish me luck, I’m going in.

Fare thee well, soldier!

Absolutely wonderful. Devoured in one sitting. My spoiler question is how do the parents survive the separation and death of their Inn? So looking forward to any and all future stories whenever they shall appear.

I am reading it now. Loving it. Thañks.

I’m up to chapter 10. I’m loving the chapter intros. I keep reading them in Mod R’s voice.

Ok , I am going to have words with Roman (when the tech is up). Because between the ending of Sweep of the Blade and this one, Ilona and Gordon are clearly possessed by Chernobog. 🙂

I decided to start from the beginning. I got Sweep of the Heart last night at 10:00 PM Pacific time, and was seven chapters in before I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer – I don’t have to pick my grandson up after school today, so I’m going to finish the book.
And maybe re-read it. My friend a couple miles away who is also BDH called me. She was astounded that she saw two of today’s three blog posts before I did.

Happy Bookday!!!!!

Happy Book Birthday for a wonderful addition to the Innkeeper series????
I’ve done my best lees imitation today while waiting to share the excitement on the spoiler thread.
Even though I followed the serial on the blog (and love that the chapter Intros were kept) I couldn’t help but be blown away by the emotional rollercoaster ox the book. The whole Wilmos kidnapping, the teachable moment, Caldenias background, Kosandion & Lady Wexyns epic love letter, Karat, Gaston&George , the mystery branching of Gertrude Hunt, Space pirates, epic remodeling of Gertrude Hunt for the selection, the Costco lady, and …….
And then the last chapter and it was again so much turmoil. I loved that the Magnolia tree on Daesyn is such a beautiful Teamwork between Dinas birth Inn and her own Inn and Dina&Sean. And the Barsa are cool, thought of monty python and Groot.
And I am so glad that Olasard got away in time from his despiccable owner. Although I guess there has to be a reason why SN hates Inns so much.
Thank you for this christmas present which sparkles in so many ways- now I’m heading to Baha-char, aka the Merch Store.
PyeCat says
I get the feeling SN will be another example of a HA villain with an understandable reason for what they have done … or at least for why they started down the road. HA is very good at doing that without excusing the horrible consequences.
Stephanie says
Fantastic finish! So glad all of Mod R’s summaries made it in!
Also was very grateful to see the dedication. I remember the discussion of their passing when it happened, but I didn’t remember seeing anything about dedicating the book to them. Very sweet!
njb says
Finished it and it was immensely satisfying! Just as much fun to read as it was during the serialization. The tweaks were minor and the end was such a surprise! (No spoilers allowed here! ) I think I need to see if I can still sign up for tomorrow’s web meeting. So so many questions raised.
Of course the appetite is now whetted for the next installment too. Can’t wait to find out where this story journeys next! And I realize it will be awhile. Big Sigh. But there are so many other books also on the ‘I want it list’, hehe.
Dee says
Absolutely loved the new parts, thank you! Methinks the Assembly needs a wake up call – they have obviously been withholding information, which puts everyone at risk.
My question is generic Innkeeper – Dina seems to continuously pay for a lot of things (either by money or by favours) that it really feels someone else should pay for – for example using her money to pay for the equipment to catch Wing, or all of the weapons needed for the Draziri. Does she ever get reimbursed? I get doing favours for people but spending 1/5th of her fee for the peace summit in capturing Wing feels like something Mr Rodriguez absolutely should pay her back for.
I know, weird thing to get hung up on ????
Steve L says
SO EXCITED!
M says
Another zoom question:
Why did the Magnolia Green cutting choose the Daesyn door? Was it Gertrude Hunt’s choice? Did Magnolia Green naturally gravitate toward the door closest to Maud? Was it because it was the most recent door? Or was it totally random?
RJ says
Me thinks because Klaus, Helen and Maud are there together- the other powerful trifecta of magic that together with Magnolia inn will have the best chance of finding Dina’s parental units (mom &dad if they are still alive) and stop the REALLY REALLY BAD MAN S.N.
Eric says
I think it is unlikely Klaus is still on Daesyn. He was on Daesyn many months ago, and we don’t know what happened during that visit, but I doubt the office of arbitration would allow him a multi-month leave after they fought so hard over George taking any leave.
Marijke van Nieuwstadt says
Need to go back and reread. Not sure exactly what they can’t tell. So confused!
Tina Smith says
I bet the new Magnolia Green Tree is outside the Maven’s quarters on Daesyn. Maybe Maud will “feel” the new portal/potential power source? Could that be a Zoom question? As in Maud is going to look out her window and do some variation of “What the hell Dina!?!
I LOVED THE BOOK! As much as the serial. I would say “even more than the serial” but the weekly Sweep of the Heart posts helped keep me (somewhat) sane in an otherwise insane world. I won’t bore anyone with details, but my life includes a parent with dementia and a beloved dog battling an enlarged, failing heart. So I CANNOT emphasize enough just how much I enjoy all the weekly Frinndays plus Tapas. I legitimately thought it was Friday for a moment because I was reading Sweep of the Heart! I guess I’ve been trained by House Andrews???? BTW – The announcement of a new Kate novella was the one reason this member of the BDH did only a happy dance while reading instead of a happy dance combined with whining about having to wait for the next Innkeeper book. Way to anticipate the voracity of the BDH and a truly strategic power move by House Andrews!!!
Di says
Is Sebastian North the name of an inn or antagonist?
Marijke van Nieuwstadt says
RBWP – Antagonist. aka Really Bad Word Person.
mz says
Hooo boy!!!
Just finished and I am very happy that the Inn Tree will be keeping the Vala Tree company.

Congratulations and thank you! You added another great story which I devoured with pleasure.
What a happy day for all of us and at the same time it’s so bittersweet, because now I want to know more and still need more more more. Next I know is that I probably quote the ‘book’ phage and write down ‘conflicted member of the book devouring horde’ on my forehead.
Ah, well, I’m off binge reading your other books. Love from Germany.
ak says
I suspected dat the new door was for Helen!! I am glad a version of the Inn survived

when the vista near the tree was described, no mention of big-ass castle in the background. Tree could be on the other side of the planet.

Happy Book Birthday. Congratulations for getting both Sweep and Marked on several of Amazon’s best seller lists. Congratulations to Mod R for making into the book.
And thank you to HA for giving us this gift of their imagination, talent, and hard work.
I hope this series never ends. I mean there have to be baby werewolves and Helen dating in the future. Then there’s Karat, need her HEA.
Henry says
Just as I figured, my Nook order was messed up. Unfortunately, my credit card expired between the date I ordered SOTH and the release date. I updated my account four days before the release date. I should have canceled the order and reordered. It took three calls to BN, to get it straightened out. I can download it on the 14th.
Fortunately, I ordered the paperback also. Surprise, I received it 5:00 PM, December 8. As usual, I read it too fast. At the end, I knew Dina, her dad and her brother were problems to Sebastion North. I asked myself, what happened to Dina’s mom? On my second read, there was mom, just between Dina’s dad and her brother.
And the grafting, a marvelous method for propagating a tree. From what I understand, there are many questions in the Botany realm on how and what DNA is transferred between the root and the branch. They know there are some genes transferred but it isn’t same gene each time. The Magnolia recognized Dina and there apparently was some genetic data exchanged between them when Dina lived there in her youth. There also was some apparent genetic data exchanged between Gertrude Hunt and Dina with all the goings on in Red Deer. Therefore, is the new tree part human?
I know there is at least Maude and Helen, the granddaughter, who reside on Dysen, who could be Innkeepers. I don’t believe Dina could split her time between both trees. Maude, being the Mavin for Krahr, would not have the time and Helen may be too young, to manage an Inn. Klause probably has a few more years being an Arbitrator. Therefore, Grandpa and Grandma Demille may want another Inn.
njb says
I doubt there’s any dna exchanging between inns and innkeepers, myself. I always thought of inns and inn keepers as magically bonded. Grafting does possibly have a genetic exchange going on between GH and the remnant of Magnolia, hard to say what right now beyond nutrients and magic. But the new tree on Daesyn is “more than a tree but less than an inn”. So magic again, especially when you look at the amazing size and rate of growth.
I find myself wondering how sapient the inns are and just how much they can figure out what’s going on out in the galaxy with respect to other inns. Why did Magnolia Green give Dina a sprig, what did it think she could do with it? Has grafting of inns happened somewhere else? I have so many questions.
Marijke van Nieuwstadt says
The new tree is rooted to Gertrude Hunt. it is not an inn.
Henry says
“… A root slid under our feet, burrowing deep into the soil …” “… A colossal magnolia, … spread its giant branches …” “Where are we … Daesyn …” From pgs. 422 and 423 of the BN print copy.
Platypus0Bubbles says
It was Gertrude Hunt’s root, since taking root is the first thing Inns do when a door is opened. After Gertrude Hunt rooted, Magnolia Green was able to take advantage of the excess magic from the selection and grow super tall.
As terrible as MG’s almost demise is, this neatly takes care of the problem of who will inherit it after Dina’s parents pass since Dina has GH and Klaus hasn’t shown any interest. Dina’s parents can help with GH and enjoy their golden years with their grandkids!
jing ledesma says
Well, I flip straight to the end. It was sooo good and had a grand time stealth reading it (at work). Later, will be for savoring the whole book.
Magnolia Green’s sacrifice was so Groot like leaving Dina with a twig. Except it grows too fast than the cute baby Groot.
I’m hoping the portal SN opens will be where Gerard and Helen is. Gerard can then show his swordmanship finishing SN.
And yeah… the Innkeeper assembly have some explanation to do.
Looking forward to more Innkeeper whenever that will be.
Definitely be parking in front of my computer for tomorrows Zoom

Oh my my my, what an ending!!! (yes I also skipped to the end – or almost, I had to relive lady W doing her thing ????). Really look forward to reading through the entire book multiple times now that my my initial thirst has been quenched.
Thank you for yet another fantastic book!! I love that we are never ever able to figure out all the twist and turns you take us on, your imagination is just that awesome
A question for zoom (general IC): was it ever resolved whether Arizona’s prison system consider the innkeeper chronicle to be inciting violence? Found an old post about ONE FEEL SWEEP being taken out of circulation – did they see reason (and the error or their ways) and keep it?
Monica Seet says
The book itself was as wonderful as I remember until I got to the ending which was magnificent. It just gripped me and was so so satisfying especially so since I can see the possibilities for a new story now. Thank you for both. Most importantly umber one in Australia in three rankings.

Too many feelings to put into proper words. Omg that was a rollercoaster of emotions.
—-
I chose to read it from the start, it was heartwarming to see Kosandion and Lady Wexyn come together again. I hope they get to enjoy this hard earned respite for a long time.
—-
I can’t believe that an innkeeper could be so corrupted to torture and kill an inn this way. When I thought of the lost parents and their inn I imagined them stuck in a place. Hurt my soul to see Magnolia Green die this way. The Innkeeper Assembly better start explaining.
—–
I hoped that this new brancing of Gertrude Hunt would lead to Maud and Helen. I think the inn misses Helen very much.

Thank you so much for this great book!
Zoom question: what happened to the elderly scottish Innkeeper? Did he ever call Dina about the adoption?
Cris Reads says
I’m interested as well ????????♀️
Marijke van Nieuwstadt says
Maybe Dina’s parents can take over the inn in Scotland?
Too soon?
Cris Reads says
They have been “away” for so long, they may prefer to be closer. Furthermore, who knows if/when they will be interested in taking care of “their own” Inn again?

Happy Dance, Happy Dance!
1st I got the notification that my pre-order was loaded into my kindle (joy to the world, the book is here.
Oh let the feast begin!
May alllll the words

And may the story unfold,
And may the story unfold,
and may, oh may-ay the story un-fold)
And then (very tiny spoiler) I saw that the chapters include the little intros from the Blog!
And now I spin with happiness. Woozie and dizzy I settle in for a good winter’s read.

Daesyn? Oh frabjous Frinnday!

I’m amazed at how well y’all made the inns their own characters. To the point as soon as I realized it was an inn Dina & Sean found themselves in, I was horrified. I cried at its pain and its love and death. And it’s all because of the time and effort over several books establishing the inns as unique and sentient beings. Bravo.
Lee says
House Andrews never fails to amaze and impress. Thank you for always giving us your best, especially the final few chapters!
And learning a KD long novella is forthcoming was a marvelous, if unexpected, gift! I saw that and rushed to preorder before commenting, and look forward to ordering the print version as soon as it’s available.

Thankyou House Andrews for this fabulous addition to the Innkeeper series!
I loved the ending where the new door opens on Daesyn and the grafted Magnolia Green takes root and grows on Daesyn. It is perfect because it will allow more coming and going between the Arland, Maud, Helen household on Daesyn and Gertrude Hunt so Dina will see more of Maud and Helen.( Whether Sean and Arland want to see more of each other is another question!)
It is also perfect because when Dina and co finally rescue their parents the parents, instead of dying because their inn is dead, may find the connection to the Magnolia Green tree is enough for them to survive. I speculate that they might be the best people to run an “inn” in the new intergalactic spaceport House Krahr plans to build in partnership with Clan Nuan and the Tachi. ( Of course Orro would be the supervising chef for both “ Inns”.)
This is a most satisfying addition to the series which just keeps getting better and better. The extra information so skilfully inserted into the final story really lifted it to a new level.
I particularly enjoyed the extra insight into characters eg1 Caldenia ( what a backstory!)eg2 Karat who is now a character whom I hope will be given her own book some day. Even when the current story arc is complete I can see the potential for more stories in the world of Innkeeper : Karat, Klaus, Lady Ilemina’s reaction to the changes and whether she can change from her xenophobic world view successfully ( Dagorkun’s words to Karat in Chapter 25 are very interesting ), Dagorkun, Kosandian’s younger siblings, Helen grown up ( yes please! )….
Thankyou House Andrews and congratulations on yet another thought provoking and entertaining book. I hope it proves very successful.
Amy says
Thank you ModR.
Jelena says
The book is magnificent. I didn’t skip to the end because I didn’t want to dilute the impact of the ending so I was jittering when I reached the final scene. Like a junky ????
I have a zoom question: what is the innkeeper’s lifespan? Some seem to be centuries old, and some are not, so I was wondering if the inns prolonged the lifespan of their innkeepers. How are Gerard and SN centuries old, but the innkeeper in Scotland is an old man? I have been wondering about this for a while now.
I can’t wait to see Arland’s reaction to the new door. Just awesome. Will the vampire kids go on field trips to the inn? Dina and Sean can babysit for Arland and Maud now ????
Kelley Ice says
This is a great question, i think Gerald is super old for unknown reasons, but my brain is thinking since SN and Gerald are about the same age from maybe the same place, (at minimum with experience in pre revolution NC)? They could be siblings or cousins? So they might have some weird alien blood in them that makes them more sturdy.
I want to know more about their story. Hopefully we will find out someday!
Tom says
Gerald was held captive in an Inn for a long time until Dina’s mother released him – there’s a snippet/short story in the free section if memory serves!
SN on the other hand feels more like a vampire type – taking the energy from the Inns he’s destroying and eradicating – there’s a definite feel of ….name escapes me…. the villian in the first Edge book.
Moderator R says
Gerard is not old for “unknown reasons” 🙂 – we know from the books that he was in a magical trap for centuries because he sacrificed himself to save an innkeeper and her children.
This is explained in Clean Sweep during Dina’s conversation with Brian Rodriguez, also when she talks about her father’s fear of cars etc.
There is also a prequel short about Gerard in his trap first meeting Helen and little Klaus and Maud https://ilona-andrews.com/gerard-demille-and-helen-meet/
Gerard is human, from Earth. He is not an alien 🙂 .
Jelena says
But how is Olasard the cat still alive if the inn didn’t make it so? SN said he got the cat centuries ago. I knew about the magical trap, an I figured that Gerard is a regular human, but SN and Olasard made me doubt. Is the answer too spoilery?
Emily says
I was also wondering about the cat’s life span.
Andreas says
But if he is a “normal” human from Earth, how came he to be a guest at an inn (where he saved the innkeeper children)? I thought that inns were secret from normal humans like me. Or was he “the wanderer” already back then and knew of the universe? But if he knew about intergalactic travels, his fear of cars whould be somewhat strange…questions over questions
Moderator R says
From Ilona “Those who know of the inns and are allowed to keep that knowledge are usually welcome at the inns. For example, Officer Marais will never have to worry about lodging if he is in a city with an inn.” from https://ilona-andrews.com/2021/innkeeper-questions-part-1/
Humans who discover or are welcome “in the know” for various reasons can be guests at Inns 🙂 and the Wanderer is one of them.
Andreas says
Thank you. How about a big reference book compiling all the background information from Q&A and the like for all House Andrews worlds? I’d buy it 😉
Henry says
When Lord Soren was conducting his “due diligence”, he asked Dina about the respect other Inn Keepers had for Gerard. Dina told Lord Soren that her father had defended an Inn Keeper and ‘her’ children. The Inn Keeper died from ‘her’ wounds. Helen freed him. If I remember correctly Dina said he was trapped for centuries. Brian said Gerard defended an ‘Inn Keeper, his wife’ and children.
Monica Seet says
There was one teensy tiny thing house Andrews that did catch my attention whilst devouring this book. There is an absolutely exquisite image of Nuan Cookie (presumably) placed right after Dina noticed the two rings in his ears however the image was missing the rings. Is there a downloadable version of this image somewhere because it is a keeper.
Terri says
Whoa.
Kelley Ice says
I need the scene where Maud realizes there is a door directly to Dina! Can we have that scene please!!! Oh please please please. All I’m imaging right now is Maud (or Helen) feeling some weird innkeeper magic and rushing towards the spot to figure out what’s happening and realizing there is a giant earth tree with Dina standing underneath of it waving at them.
-part of the book devouring horde. I only just finished the book, stupid work. But gotta work to afford more books!
Terri says
Potential Zoom question: When Dina is talking to SN he says “I will kill every inn in the galaxy.” Does that mean that Innkeepers aren’t exclusive to Earth? For some reason I thought they were.
Kelticat says
All the Earth Inns are descendants of an Inn on Baha-char. I’m pretty certain that the tree Thek was staying in is a Baha-char Inn.
Vee says
Painfully ordered the paperback from Amazon since Indigo doesn’t have it yet RIP. You guys are one of my (very, very) few insta buy authors for physical books so I will put coins in Jeff Bezos’ wallet to be able to FINALLY read this. loved the whole thing, really loved the ending. thank you.
Sorah says
Does the assembly know what happened to Dina’s parents?
Why was Dina’s father called the wanderer?
I thought Inns only exist on earth. Is Magnolia Green an Inn on Mauds planet or just a door to it?
travis says
I am assuming house k will be building a “facility” around it to keep it hidden.
Angela says
“it was more than a tree, but less than an inn”
Gertrude Hunt forged the door and the cutting grew into a tree. there is no “new”inn. just a tree that is “more”.
Chandra says
Heehee. I finally managed to get my oil changed today. In large part because it was an excellent excuse to sit and read! LOL! I LOVED reading the book and finding all the little things that were different. It was like an amazing game of literary spot the difference. So many little things that confused the BDH got cleared up with just an added (or subtracted, or changed) sentence or 2. It was neat seeing how the book evolved via the writing process.
It took me until this book to realize that Dinas father is likely not an earth human. Aka, Dina is not fully human. Interesting.
I would do almoat anything to get the story that goes with House Krahr and Maude finding out about the new door.
What kind of boost will Gertrude Hunt get being grafted to a part of Green Magnolia. And why would the Innkeeper Assembly do anything bad (or even good) about the grafting?
I knew I was gonna spend the day reading… and I was a little worried I would stay up too late finishing the book. It never occured to me that I would be left with so many things to ponder from just that last chapter. I daresay I Will have a hard time sleeping tonight!
Moderator R says
Gerard, Dina’s father, is an Earth human. Dina is fully human ????
Kathy says
I think Sébastien North is an inn and the really bad person had it taken away from him and killed, probably by the assembly. Dinars going to end up running the assembly.
travis says
knew Gertrude hunt was making a portal to House Krahr!!!!
Elizabeth says
Happy book birthday!
My vacation starts today, will be celebrating by reading Sweep of the Heart. My plans to read it when it was released yesterday went sideways due work being brutal and to my dad going to hospital, when I finally got home I was too depressed and stressed out to enjoy this book that I have look so much forward to.
But today my dad is home again and feeling better and I just have to get through a mountain of annoying work meetings, THEN I will indulge!
Can’t wait.
Thank you for all your awesome books and stories – they make the world a better place.
Jeanine says
part of me hopes this means that
1) Gertrude Hunt can now access the rooms of Magnolia Green, so all the things that Dina lost in her old home are able to appear again
2) the graft is able to either be removed and replanted when (not if!) Dina’s parents are found, or they can host a guesthouse/mini inn on Daesyn, if the inntree has some abilities of inns
Di says
1) why did the cover change from the creepy hooded figures to Dina/Sean?
2) can inns be planted outside of earth? For some reason i thought they had to be rooted to earth first and then developed doors to other places.
3) what happened to the Scottish innkeeper who wanted to adopt Dina ?
amber dawn says
i remember it being stated in one of the books that the first plant the inns connect to is bash ra because that is where inns started.
so with that understanding i am sure there are inns else where in the galaxies
RJ says
Will Karat walk home through the inn instead of using the portal?
How could such a lovely cat have a terrible owner?
How is the REALLY BAD MAN able to capture and kill innocent inns in this poison planet without anyone noticing and can access to this planet (magical or otherwise) be blocked somehow to prevent this?
Timelady says
That was AMAZING! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU. Argh now I need to know more!

Is it possible to make it available in the Kobo store?
Thankyou!

Love the last chapter!! I wondered how you could possibly deliver something emotionally satisfying in just one chapter but you sure did.
For the next one, I’d love to see Dinah really focus on finding her parents, now that she’s got more info to go on. I want her to find them!

Loved the ending!

Best line ever “It’s his wife! Bring all the doughnuts!” I laughed so hard at that part.
So many questions. I cannot wait to see what happens next.

Just finished. That was awesome!
I was hoping that the door opened where it did! So happy ????
Even more happy that there must be another book to answer where are her parents, will we see Maud’s wedding, why was Klaus on Daesyn, and what does that Scottish Innkeeper have up his sleeve?
JenMo says
Yo! Just checked the Amazon rankings (I’m a nerd for analytics) and Sweep of the Heart is currently (9:30 am Wednesday) #13 and Magic Tides is #10 in all of kindle. Hell yeah! It’s so cool to see something beloved excelling.

YAY! The power of the BDH!
Molly-in-Md says
Since the death of an inn is so potentially deadly for its innkeeper, I worry about Dina’s parents. Whether they’re awake or in stasis, Magnolia Green’s death will be awful once it hits them. Crossing all finger and toes that the new grafted inn-tree will be a strong enough replacement to soften the usually-fatal blow.
Maria says
Wonderful, frustrating ending!! Can’t wait for the next installment. Hopefully it won’t be too far away ???? ????
Alison says
Love it!! great ending, and the sprout!!! aaaaahhhhh!
But…..what about the Loch Broom Inn?
JO says
True! Loch Broom! Dangling thread. I thought they would try to set Derryl up there, but it’s better that she will be around other young warrior types.
Angela says
OOOOHHHH that ending. All the feels. I can’t even breathe. Every bit of information she gets on her parents makes the whole situation even more disturbing and tragic.
I can’t thank House Andrews enough for sharing this fascinating and vibrant world with all of us. I eagerly await the next book.

Well, the way I see it–Helen is going to be the most popular kid on Daesyn. She is going to have the neatest tree house in the Galaxy AND once everyone under the age of 20 sees that Helen has the BEST pony a little girl could ask for in one of the rust savoks, well. . .
And yes, I am jealous of that savok. Like many other girls, I went through the horse mad phase. Well, except I want to apprentice to the Spanish Riding School in Vienna. Sigh, those Lippizaners are too beautiful for words. Unfortunately, when I was 13 (the age they started apprentices at) they did not take girls. Totally broke my heart when my parents told me that I couldn’t apply. I bet a savok would be able to out-Dance a Lippizaner though.

Helen is going to host the best sleepover parties at the Inn.

I just finished Sweep of the Heart. Omigod!!!!!
That is all I have to say about the book at this moment. I have to emotionally process now, and reread. I am both blessed and cursed by the ability and compulsion to read quickly. I have devoured the book in gulps and must now go back and savor.
I am really loving all the new details—I followed the serial on the blog.
Thank you yet again, Ilona and Gordon. You guys continue to hit it out of the park.
Iftcan says
Skype, I too “gulp” a book down as quickly s possible when I first get it. then I put it down for a few hours to allow it to percolate before picking it back up and re-reading it, slowly (well slower) that second time. it used to drive my Mum bonkers. she didn’t understand how I could possibly want to reread any book ever, much less right away. She passed away in 2012 just one week shy of her 85th birthday. and I sometimes really miss listening to her fuss at me about the way I read. Part of why she didn’t understand it was that she kept insisting there were too many books out there that I hadn’t read yet, and re-reading one just put me further behind in that reading race.
Variel says
Only on chapter 2 and very appreciative of the chapter intros.
Heather says
Just finished the second read…
First thought: MAGNOLIA GREEN SAVED! omg… At least a branch. And somehow that might be enough.
Second thought: Konsandion playing the long game: Boss.
Third thought: The corrupted inn keeper (perhaps Sebastien North, though that might be the name of his dead inn) lost his wife and children and “killed” his inn. But..
What if the inn where Gerard Demille saved the innkeeper “and her children” was the same inn? What if SN and the Demilles have always been tied together. What if Gerard actually saved SN’s wife and children from him?
What if Gerard was a Revolutionary War era Ad-Hal?
Now I really, really, Really want the next book.
Aman Sidhu says
I just finished the book and all I have to say is wow. I said it out loud, laughed a bit insanely with tremendous giddiness. My partner actually checked in to make sure I was okay.
No spoilers but wow. Blown away every time I have the privilege and pleasure of reading an Ilona Andrews book for the first time. They’re usually really comforting and still engaging after the 10th read too. Thank you! I have so many questions! I can’t wait until this Saturday.
Caroline says
The book is so awesome! I read the ending and then went back and read it all a second time. It was an absolutely perfect ending to the book.
I can’t wait to see what happens next. I really want Helen to bring friends and visit Aunt Dina. I want to see the wedding between Maude and Arland. And I want someone to smack Maude’s ex in-laws around. And I want to find Dina’s parents. lol.. I have lots of wants.
But thank you HA for a incredible book and for being so generous with the BDH. I have already ordered two cups. It was so hard to choose.

Another library I use – not available.
Angela says
did you recommend it? recommendations to buy are vital to let libraries know what patrons want to read. plus it puts you ahead in the queue once they do buy it.
Mo says
It’s a good thing that the particular world that the inn opened to is partly run by someone very friendly to Dina, because it seems like that particularly group of people would otherwise not take an access to their world that they do not control very lightly ….
Dani says
The spouse-candidate gig is not a good one. Of twelve candidates, six didn’t get their asks. Of the other six, two triggered wars and two agreed to provide the Dominion with resources.
On the other hand, the food is excellent. Better to be an observer.
Sechat says
empire/dynasty building is generally a perilous endeavor; IRL the negotiations around political marriages actually fail more than is commonly known, mostly because these negotiations are generally kept quiet in case they DO fail. Then other events happen (wars, trade alliances, military alliances, etc) that are seen as less ‘satisfying/enduring/successful’ than what the politicians think would have been achieved by marriage.
Martha Christina says
Just finished it… and LOVED the finished book! What a marvellous ending! Now to explain (yet again) to my family why I was cheering out loud…
Courtenay says
I noticed one change from the serial: The written permission from the Drifen to show their throne room. I think I may have been responsible for that, as I commented that doing that without their permission seemed wrong.

One question: In the scene with the Innkeeper Assembly, there is this line:
“‘Ahahaha!’ Aiyo cracked up. ‘I see what you did there.'”
I don’t. What is Aiyo referring to? Thanks.

I just finished it. Terrific. I enjoyed re-reading the previously published chapters. I had forgotten many details. The new part was amazing. I’ll probably need to re-read the last chapter a few times, because I’m not sure I completely understood what happened.
Also I’m very happy Innkeeper hasn’t finished yet.

Zirraella says
Dina: “Nobody knows how Inns grow their roots, but I miss my sister so much…”
Gertrude Hunt: “Say no more.”
I loved the little tweaks in the story. It flows much smoother. Yeay for the werewolf girl geting a new purpose. I liked that Prysen Ol got a second chance. I mean, it was just business, nothing personal.
I cried for the old inn, I love that it gets to retire on a planet with the family.

Fabulous book! Just finished my first run. Now to go back and reread some of my favorite parts. “Attentions. All of them.”
The ending was amazing. Magnolia Green. *sigh* But to end up on Daesyn? As I adore Maud, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Thank you once more for an awesome story that will be read repeatedly. Gordon and Ilona rock!

Most important takeaway: Dina can go back to Costco now.
Just kidding. I loved this book, there were a ton of favorite moments. Cheers to Innkeeper and House Andrews!

Loved the ending!!! And as always fantastic storytelling!
Dream scenario:
Magnolia Green needs to turn into a treehouse for Dina’s parents, or a tree with a door – I bet MG would recognise them. And that way Dina’s parents would be close to their granddaughter and to both daughters thanks to the door into Gertrude Hunt ♡

Finished. It was a busy week and I forced myself to read all the way through and not skip to the end.
OMG! SOTH was fantastic! I am amazed at the storytelling skills of HA!
I cried. I literally cried. All the feels! So well done. Thank you so much for your efforts to create this world, these characters and this story.
I have a million questions but have discovered the answers will eventually be revealed.
Wrap presents or reread?? No contest—going to fire up the e-reader!

Great story, thank you!
So many questions…what is SN? Did it attack the inn that her father saved? Who brought that evil to that inn originally? Was the evil innkeeper one of the children that survived, or was it a guest that had been at the inn her father saved….or is it something completely different!?! So many questions…looking forward to future stories. Your stories are the best.

Moderator R says
Hi Chantel,
You’re writing to the wrong people, I’m afraid.
Authors have no control over the publication and translations of their works in other countries.
Your local publishing houses control that. You need to contact the house that published the previous Innkeeper books or someone who publishes fantasy/similar books and tell them you’re interested in reading the sequels on your own terms.
House DeMille says
What a finale! I admit to wondering how on earth House Andrews were going to conclude the story after the whole spouse selection extravaganza. Worried that it would be anti-climactic.
Should have known better – of COURSE they would come up with a magnificent, earth-shattering showdown which answers some questions, raises others and advances the story while still being so satisfying.
And at the same time leaves you wanting more. Aaaah Daesyn! A perfect ending and a perfect tease.
Billie says
Wow. Simply blown away by the fabulous ending. Thank you, thank you. House Andrews is truly luminous and brilliant in this dark season (and indeed any season) of the year! Also preordered the next Kate story, and that day it was #1 seller in its category (paranormal romance, if I recall correctly.) All the Happy Holidays to you and yours!
