We have sat on this news for about a year. We were planning to sit on it all the way until mid August, but the BDH is too vigilant.
Yesterday.
Mod R: We’ve gotten several messages from the BDH concerned about the evil plagiarists stealing the Innkeeper for webcomics.
Me: Is it Tapas? Are they the “evil plagiarists?”
Mod R: Yes. I think the cat is out of the bag. You might want to make an announcement.
Me: Maybe we can hold off…
Today.
From Mod R:
- I just found out tapas announced the innkeeper chronicles with a release date. In two weeks, im so excited. Did i miss the memo here? Soooooo happy (Manou)
- Mod Rrrrrrr! I just saw the news and preview on Tapas!! Can we share?! August 23rd!! Can’t wait! They look cute! So curios about the rendition of everything! (Elenariel)
- Hi! I saw that the Innkeeper Chronicles is coming out on Tapas, any idea if it’s inspired by the books or if it’s an accurate adaptation? (Melissa)
- DID INKEEPER GET LICENSED FOR A WEBTOON!?!?! Tapas announced the release of an adaptation today for later this month!!!! Please tell me it’s true!!!! (Candy)
- What is Tapas/I haven’t heard of Tapas. I thought it was a small plate of food.
We are pleased to announce that Clean Sweep is now an online comic, adapted and produced by Tapas.
What is Tapas?
Tapas is an app that can be viewed on your smart phone, tablet, or computer. Tapas uses its own currency, ink, which functions like digital tokens that you purchase. You then pay for the comics with ink. You can also earn ink by looking at advertisements, etc.
What is a webcomic?
It’s a comic that’s available online. It’s a bit difficult to link the entire panel here because it tends to be very long, so here are some images. We are a little bit restricted in what we can show as they don’t want us to show a lot of art in advance. Click the images to enlarge. I had to drop the quality down to make the file size somewhat reasonable, so the final art looks even better.
Update: We got permission to release the cover.
Is the whole Clean Sweep being adapted?
Yes. I believe the entire annual run is 52 issues. They usually drop several issues at release date, so you can get into the comic, and then release one issue each week. Typically the first 3 issues are free to try and see if you like it.
Because there must be 52 issues, Clean Sweep’s story has been expanded with extra material. It now has werecats and scenes at Arland’s home planet. While this is a very faithful adaptation, certain things had to be changed for the sake of the story. For example, in the original Clean Sweep Arland doesn’t go grocery shopping with Dina. In the comic book, he does.
When is it coming out?
August 23rd. The same day as RUBY FEVER. This was not planned in any way. It’s just turned out like that, and here we are. So you will see a lot of cross promo. Before the comic releases, we will do a couple more posts with exact instructions on how to access Tapas so those of you who have never done it but want to see Caldenia in a comic book form will not be lost.
How excited are we about this?
It’s so pretty. Everyone has worked so hard on this. We had a lot of editorial input. Tapas has been wonderful to work with.
We also got a close up of what it’s like to work as a comic artist. I’m harsh in my writer critique. Often I don’t mean to be, I’m just used to being direct due to mostly beta reading for other authors, where you say things like, “Why is she so dumb here?” and nobody takes offense.
Let me tell you, it’s nothing like having a bunch of art editors scrub comic book panels. I’m looking at it and thinking, “So pretty!” and they are all “Adjust the angle of his chin. Make this like this. More roses. Less roses. Put roses into a different place. Add sparkles. More blood here. This is the wrong shade of purple. Make his leg leggier!”
So massive, massive amount of work from everyone. We hope you will enjoy this adaptation and I can’t wait to share more about it with you.
Mod R PS : You will be able to find the Innkeeper Chronicles in the Tapas search a bit closer to the release date on the 23rd (for everyone wondering).

Oh WOwwwww!!!!! I was already rereading all of Hidden Legacy in my excitement over the upcoming Ruby Fever and what do you know? Here’s a COMIC! For INNKEEPER! Wheeeeeeeee……

David D. says
Does Tapas do print editions? When it’s complete, will I be able to but it and hold it on my hands?
Will the other books also get adapted on Tapas?
KC says
I read A Business Proposal at Tapas and was so amused to see it as a live action asian drama streaming on Netflix. I’m also a big fan of a Knight and Her Emperor too.
I’m giddy about the thought of Innkeeper brought more to life with pretty art, and Arland shopping is gonna be fun. 🙂

Tip for the BDH:
You get the best opportunities for Tapas free ink and discounts using their app (on mobile devices like phones and tablets). I prefer using my computer to read webtoons, and I never get access to the deals my friend does on the app.

I always imagined Hidden Legacy having a webcomic, and it was part of the reason why I got back into my childhood love of drawing. My silly little dream was to illustrate Hidden Legacy one day haha (along with a slew of all my favorite romance novels). Art is hard, however, I’m improving each day!
But I digress, I love webcomics and can’t wait to read this! The art looks great. An excellent story and novel + great art = a match made in heaven. Tapas pounced on it because I’m sure they realize what a gem this will be 🙂
Debra K Hoffmaster says
Will House Andrews continue the Innkeeper series as a book, or, will new releases be in webcomic format?
Moderator R says
I cannot speak on the future of the Innkeeper as a series, as that is for House Andrews to announce, but if there will be future books, they will definitely be books and not webcomics.
These are adaptations. House Andrews are not changing careers ????
Debra Hoffmaster says
Thank yoi

I just want more story. I love all these shenanigans. Was Sean worried when Dina smelled like a cat? Will life saving solutions be available?
Anyway so happy you all continue to find new ways to reach a bigger audience.

You will still publish your books right? I am not a fan of manga. I think it all looks the same, crappy. I want to continue to read the books, no manga comics, no manga cartoons.
Moderator R says
Hi Barbara,
This is a side-project, the traditional books will continue to be published.
midorisprite says
Omigosh this is super exciting! I have never used Tapas—always been a Webtoon girl, but will definitely get a subscription for this!

I downloaded Tapas and started reading Solo Leveling series based on your recommendation. My son is 15, and reads a lot of manga and graphic novels, so I asked him if he had heard of Tapas / Solo Leveling. He had not. I just wanted to tell you how freaking thrilled I am to have been able to show him something NEW that is COOL (how often does a mom of a teen get that opportunity?!).
We are now in a reading competition, who can finish Solo Leveling first (he’s going to beat me, I have to work, and he stayed up until 3am reading).
I am so so so hopeful he will try the Innkeeper Series once it comes out on Tapas. It would be so fun to share this universe with him, and maybe get him to try some of your other novels. Looking forward to the 23rd!
Rider says
Yes!!! I hope they do the whole series!!!!!!
Grams says
