Small Magics has an audiobook version! I can finally share!

The release date is Black Friday, November 24th.

Preorders are live (see links above) and House Andrews have partnered with Dreamscape for distribution again, meaning it will be pushed to over 60 retailers. So if your favorite isn’t linked above, give their catalogue a search and it will probably pop up.

Hillary Huber and Michael Glenn (familiar to us from the Wilmington Years audios) have done a fabulous job, reprising their roles as Kate and Curran and extending their repertoire to the other short stories in the anthology. Adam, Saiman’s cousin from Retribution Clause, is a personal favorite: you can feeeeeel the menace!

The audiobook will, of course, include the extended version of Small Magics, including the long version of Curran’s POV (all gloriously growly 132 pages of it), and Jim’s POV on top of Magic Tests, A Questionable Client, Retribution Clause, Of Swine and Roses and Grace of Small Magics.

And that’s not all! ::late night shopping network voice::

Magic Bleeds, Kate Daniels 4, will be released by Graphic Audio tomorrow, November 8th.

As usual, these dramatized adaptations are first released on the Graphic Audio website and their streaming Access app.

It will go to third party retailers such as Audible and Hoopla etc on November 29th– I don’t know why people keep missing this, but this means that it *will* be available on Audible. On November 29. There, I made it Bold too hehe.

There is, however, an Early Black Friday deal going on at the moment on the Graphic Audio website, so if you want to grab the 4 Kates released so far, or the full set of Innkeeper Chronicles (Sweep of the Heart is coming out in January and the preorder is included in the sale), now is your time!

    I’m realizing post pandemic lockdown that my ability to concentrate is shot. Somehow, I can only skim reading everything, even novels form writers I love. Now the only way I can enjoy a book is by audiobook, which forces me to “read” the book in its entirety. So thank you so much for making this available in a format I can consume!!!

  11. Just wanted to say that Retribution Clause is one of my favorite shorts from you. The premise of is it, is fantastic. I also love how real the characters are. As a child of parents whose marriage did not work (but they stayed married), and as a divorcee myself, I appreciate when relationships in books are presented as the complex, messy, gray areas that they can be. Thank you for phenomenal writing!

I love GA – and can hardly wait for tomorrow – I usually try to get everything through my library and Hoopla/Libby but for some reason they have only ordered the Innkeeper series and not the KD series so alas I ordered them directly with GA. Easy once I set it up – but eek there are so many other books I want to listen to now. I was introduced to GA via Devon Monk’s series and loved it, however KD and Innkeeper are my favourite – I do hope HL is done via GA – that would be so much fun?!?

    And speaking of ordering, is there anywhere to buy a non- Graphic Audio copy of One Fell Sweep other than Audible? I have bought a lot of my older books as mp3 cds and have never been able to find this one. Just wondering. Thanks!

    • Graphic Audio are only adapting the Curran POV scenes, but they are doing with each book they correspond to 🙂. For example, Magic Bleeds will have the Naked Dinner, Awake and Conclave scenes.

    • Audible are trying to not-so-subtly push you to buy with credits- the book only costs 1 Audible credit and of course that will mean a subscription to Audible.
      I’m uncertain whether there will be a sale any time soon.

  38. Wanted to let you know that the Graphic Audio folks were great when I (per usual) got snarled up in my attempt to set up an account and download three of the Kate Daniels audios. They helped me sort out my confusion within hours and I am now the delighted owner of the first three books. Until the Graphic Audio versions of the InnKeeper books, I had not been an audio book user. The high quality productions converted me last year and now I can’t get enough. Thank you Ilona Andrews et al for your consistent commitment to making your books, the artwork, the blog, and your brand high quality and wonderful.

  39. I’m in the middle of a re-listen of the entire series and with this announcement, I’m now planning on finishing the whole thing out with Small Magics and all those Curran POVs. I’m super excited for it!

    Between Small Magics and the anthologies, I think almost* all of the Kate Daniels short stories are available in audio format now.

    (*Magic Gifts isn’t in the Gunmetal Magic recording, and I haven’t been able to hunt down a recording so far, but please let me know if it’s out there somewhere and I just haven’t found it, I’d love to listen!)

    • No, Magic Gifts is not available in audio format 😟. House Andrews tried to include it with the upcoming Small Magics audio release, but it wasn’t to be, sadly.

  40. Hi there I was wondering if Magic Slays will be released in GA and if so, when do you think it will be?

    • It will definitely be released, they have bought adaptation rights to all the 10 volumes of the main series + the Small Magics anthology.

      Nora and the GA team are recording and editing Sweep of the Heart at the moment, to complete the Innkeeper Series, which will be released in January. Magic Slays will start recordings right after that, so whilst I do not have an official date yet, it will likely be end of winter/early spring 🙂 . They work extremely fast!

  41. not sure if anyone will see this question (maybe Mod R?), but I was wondering how the pre-orders work on GA? Will it only show up in the app after the release date? Their FAQ doesn’t address this… I have the order receipt but the book isn’t showing up in my account yet.

    My Internet is a bit iffy, so I’m not sure if it’s just me or that’s the way it works. Thanks in advance for any info!
