Audible Sale and Maggie in the Wild

Blog, Maggie 56 Comments | POST A COMMENT August 6, 2026 by Moderator R

I have a quick audiobook sale alert and a couple of lovely This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me sightings to share.

Audible US Sitewide Sale

Audible is currently running a sitewide cash sale, with titles discounted by up to 85% – including books available for preorder.

The sale runs from Wednesday, August 5 through Monday, August 10.

The exact discount varies by title, so please check Audible for current prices on the books and preorders you have been eyeing. Also, this promotion applies to cash purchases only, rather than purchases made with Audible credits.

In other words, this may be a good moment to investigate any ahem Horde-shaped gaps in your audiobook library:

Maggie on the Airwaves

You may remember that NPR included This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me among its staffers’ favorite fiction reads of 2026 so far back in June.

This past weekend, NPR revisited their recommendation and featured Maggie during a six-minute segment on Weekend Edition Sunday.

NPR producer Liz Baker introduces Maggie to listeners as a perfectly ordinary modern woman dropped into her most-beloved and yet-doomed fantasy series, the one she knows by heart. Maggie must gamble on her encyclopedic fangirl knowledge to survive, as every choice changes the story she remembers.

Liz does warn listeners to arm themselves with p*tience and not pick up the book just yet unless they are prepared for the cliffhanger. Naturally, the Horde recommends ignoring that advice and joining the rest of us in suspense. One of us! ONE OF US!

Congratulations again to Ilona and Gordon, and thank you to Liz Baker and NPR for talking about our girl!

A Duke Summer Read

No, not the Sleepless’ Duke TBR, but Duke University’s Trinity College of Arts & Sciences – Maggie found her way into some distinguished academic company!

Kristin Stephens-Martinez, Lyle Family Associate Professor of the Practice of Computer Science, chose This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me as her favorite summer read.

You can browse the full Duke faculty summer reading list here. The full list offers plenty of summer destinations in addition to being isekaied into Rellas, from journeys through history to digital technology and more.

Thank you to Professor Stephens-Martinez and Duke Trinity!

SFF World Reading Suggestions

This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me also made the latest roundup of summer reading suggestions over at SFFWorld (a speculative fiction review and news site, for those who may not know), with praise for the book’s intelligence, snark, political intrigue, worldbuilding, and memorable cast. They called it addicting, so we know they’re our kind of people!

You can read the full SFFWorld summer reading recommendations here.

Keep your eyes peeled for more Maggie sightings in the wild, and please send them my way when you spot one. The Horde and House Andrews love seeing where This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me turns up next!

So happy it’s making rounds in the wild!! Congrats!! After TKWNKM release I raved about it like crazy to my mom but she’s like is the rest out? And unfortunately I was honest and said no so she asked for the back catalog and I started her on paperback copies of hidden legacy. She’s in lurve!!! We just finished with her move from the city to the mountains so she’s very excited to get all her books unpacked and pick up where she left off in white hot. I think I’ll be able to get her to read kingdom after she devours the catalog tho…

I will note that if one wishes to avoid a cliffhanger one does not need to wait to read all of Maggie, one merely needs to wait to read the last half (or so) of the epilogue.

      August 7, 2026 at 7:36 am

True, but wildly unlikely, not to mention impractical. At what point do you quit reading the epilogue, unless warned specifically with page and paragraph? One of my daughters refuses to read even free online Innkeeper serials until the entire book is finished and available in whole. Not everyone’s budget can stretch to buying what they’re not going to read for a minimum of three years. I’ve read TKWNKM at least four times by now, but two more years at minimum is how long it will be before I can talk about it with her.

Alternatively you could simply avoid the entire Epilogue. It’s only four pages.

(That said, I think it’s entirely possible to figure out when one is still in “additional recap” in the Epilogue and when one is getting to “potential cliffhanger leadup ahead”.)

I have been observing that those who are recommending Maggie on social media often come back with reviews about other House Andrews’ books. I do love how the BDH fills the comments with suggestions about the next read, or welcoming the reviewer to the BDH.

I loved the book so much that I had my friend buy me two copies of the French translation while he was vacationing in France, one for my mum and one for my sister, as neither speaks English (or not enough to actually read a whole English language book). I’m looking forward to their comments, that’s for sure. ❤️

But I’m curious: why hasn’t the title been translated (as it is perfectly translatable)?

I’m thrilled to hear of all of the positive accolades and recommendations for TKWNKM. Ilona and Andrew are SO DESERVING! And Mod R for supporting them in countless ways!

When, pre-release, we began hearing about all the promo from Tor going into this, I became unaccountably excited for IA, thinking this will be their break into blockbuster status. I am so excited that it is building and building towards that.

I have to admit, normally the more excitement and anticipation for a movie, etc, the greater the chance it won’t quite live up to expectations. TKWNKM surpassed my heightened expectations and then some!

A question – maybe it’s back in other posts, but how long was Maggie in the NYT bestseller Top Ten? I think I saw her at 8 or 9 but didn’t follow through as zealously as I should have.

That Girl Reads (on Facebook) has mentioned Kingdom twice. Most recently this week, when she gave her rundown of books she feels we’re overhyped, underrated, and perfectly hyped books. Kingdom fell into that last category! She really likes it (smart woman)

I was in Agen, France for the past two weeks. Agen is a mid-sized town in South Central France, between Bordeaux and Toulouse. Agen has a lovely large bookstore and I could not resist taking a photo of their display of This Kingdom. It was not in the stacks but in an easy to see area with other new releases. I would be delighted to send the photo to you!

I am glad you posted about this, as I wanted to share that Maggie’s book was prominently displayed at the Tor booth at Comic-Con in San Diego recently! I have a photo I took that I can send if you are interested. I talked up the book to the booth staff and other attendees, as well as the other IA series. Comic-Con is what introduced me to House Andrews originally. In 2017, at my first con, I got a free, signed copy of Burn for Me. This paperback has been very well thumbed by me and the many friends I have lent it to. Always with the caveat that it comes back to me, or else. Hundreds of hours of reading and proud ownership of ALL the books later, I am grateful to Publishers Row at Comic-Con for starting me on the righteous path of hordedom. And, of course, to Ilona and Gordon for sharing these worlds with us.
