Today we bring you a cute in-progress trailer for the Innkeeper game. If you missed these news, we are developing it in house, so this is not quite solo developer, but dual developer project. It will take a while for it to reach playable stage. We estimate about 2 years.

To be honest, several people asked if there was any progress, so I bugged Kid 2 until she sent me this, so this is not high def, etc. She literally texted it to me so I would leave her alone. Here is direct link for those of you reading it through email.

Meanwhile, our app is getting close to release and we need beta testers. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find bugs.

If you are feeling up to it, comment below. Requirements: must have an iPhone and must download TestFlight. We will pick a few people at random form the comments.

PS MOD R: Quick clarification after repeated confusion in the comments:

The beta testers are being recruited for the new Ilona Andrews app, NOT for the Innkeeper game.

The app is a separate project designed as another way to enjoy and keep up with House Andrews content, including blog posts, book and series information, reading-progress tracking, quizzes, quotes of the day, and other fun extras. I think of it as an expansion to the Horde playground, hehe.

The Innkeeper game is still in development. There is no game beta test being recruited for at this time. No platform has been announced for the game, and it is not the project that is only available to Apple users.

If you would like to help test the APP and have an iPhone and are willing to download TestFlight, please leave a comment as requested above. Thank you!

    0 experience is beta-anything but am excellent at giving actionable and coherent feedback in surveys and requests of all kinds!!

    • Coding for Android is different and more involved, I believe House Andrews want to assess interest and activity first 🙂 – so not for a while.

      • I totally understand! My workplace develops an app for both iOS and Android and it’s a challenge to get the app to match formatting and work properly in both operating systems.

  18. Would love to be a tester! Have done the bug hunt at work and it is a weird but fun activity. Also love that parental nagging got a positive result on the upcoming game. Any issues with being in Canada?

    Suggestions: Steam page so that you can get beta testers later(and for wishlisting), look into a discord server and game events(shows, expos, etc) where you can put in a trailer to pull in people to start creating hype.

    (I have no gaming skills, to go along with no ability to “drive and phone” at the same time. It probably has to do with eye/hand co-ordination, in my case complicated by severe myopia as a child, and my only physical fitness accomplishments in h.s. were synchronized swimming and archery.)

    • Oh well, I’m not likely to ever be an iPhone user. Had one for work and learned it was not for me. So I’ll look forward to seeing updates as this moves forward as the game looks pretty interesting.

      • We are a shockingly expert group, Holly. It seems many of the books the Book Devouring Horde gobbles down — other then the House Andrews œuvre and other authors of interest (of which there are a number of long lists tucked in various hidden corners around the blog — we must read *something* in between House Andrews releases!) — are high level subject matter texts, as far as I can tell. I learn something new with almost every discussion here. 🙂

    I’m an android user rather then apple, not I’m got at breaking test sites by finding all the bugs (they must be attracted to my sweet blood even in the universe of 0s and 1s); so I’ll wait until there’s a android test stage to throw my hat in the ring 🙂

  136. I think you have some folks confused thinking that what they’re volunteering to test is the innkeeper game not the actual app that you’ve been designing. That you are unrelated – right?

    • Yes, they are unrelated and the post is pretty clear about the game being years from being ready 🙂

    • The game is different from the app 🙂

      It is the app that is Apple-only – for now.

  176. IPhone in hand, Testflight downloaded. Mostly a reader. I play on my phone, and I like building things in a personal universe. Add the variety of guests that the Inn gets, this looks like fun!

    • Once again, the game shown is not what you would be testing 🙂

      What you will be testing is the Ilona Andrews app, which is completely different.

  187. I worked in software (tech supoort, QA, product management) for years before retiring, including doing QA for apps, some of them iPhone apps. I’m also a proud and mostly patient member of the BDH. I’d love to test the app on my iPhone or iPad Pro if that’s supported.

Perhaps a book covering the wedding of Maud and Arland? Another about the wedding of Dina and Sean? Helen needs a younger sibling and some cousins. We also need to find the missing parents who we now know are still alive. A lovely reunion would be wonderful. Please?

  212. Hello! I would like to sign up to beta test the app. I have an iPhone, can get TestFlight, and for added qualifications I previously worked for Apple doing iPhone tech support over the phone, so I have experience troubleshooting various apps in an iOS environment.

Part of my day job as a thought partner and mentor/coach to the IT org at a leading AAU University, is to comment on everything (process, communications, slide decks, meetings…); I always use an “eye of beholder approach” in ensuring value and “speed to value” (Copyright). Have iPhone and have used TestFlight before.

I do use apps, even games, on my iPhone, but not lots of games And I’d like to keep up better with the latest IA news. If I would be a helpful demographic then I’d love to join the beta crew.

    1.) Is the Ilona Andrews App going to scale up to iPad? … Apple iPhones are great, but I’m gettin’ older… need bigger platforms!

    Also, I am able to use a game controller with my iPad — so much easier!

    2.) Does “TestFlight” require payment or is it a “free” app for iOS? (I know I can probably check the App Store for it, but I don’t want to share my statistics with them, if I don’t have to…)
