On with the story.
###
I raised my hand. “The point is, Victoria Tremaine desperately needs us. She’s the only surviving Prime of her House.”
“The House is everything,” Bern said quietly. “She needs you and the girls to qualify as Primes so she can keep her House alive.”
“Question!” Leon said. “If she is the only Prime, how can she still be a House?”
“Every time a new Prime is registered, the Office of Records checks to see if the family has two Primes,” Catalina said. “If there are two living Primes, the family is recertified as a House. They don’t take away the family’s rank until the last Prime alive at the last certification dies.”
My sister had been reading up on Houses. “You know what I can do,” I said.
I could do plenty. Being able to detect a lie was the least of my talents. I could crack a human mind like a walnut and pull whatever knowledge I needed out of it. And I didn’t have to leave the mind intact.
“Victoria can do everything I do and much more, and she does it better. I’m just now figuring out the extent of my power. She’s been trained in the use of magic since she could hold chalk in her hand. She has power, money, and troops we don’t. She’ll do whatever she has to do to gain control of me and Catalina at the very least.”
Grandma Frida put her hand over her mouth. Bernard was usually calm and steady, like a rock in a storm. But right now his eyes were full of fear.
“She can do things with Catalina’s talent.” Unspeakable, ugly things. Things that would make my thoughtful, kind sister hate herself. “And if Arabella’s magic is discovered . . .”
I didn’t finish. I didn’t even want to go there. They would lock her away and keep her sedated for the rest of her life. She would never get to see the sun. She’d never laugh again, never love, never live. My grandmother wouldn’t get her claws on my sisters. I wouldn’t let it happen.
Catalina leaned forward, her eyes defiant. “What are our options?”
I checked my mother’s face. She was sitting still, her expression grim.
“We can roll over,” I said. “That will likely mean that you and I will have to do whatever Victoria says. We’ll have to walk away from our business.”
Catalina winced. Our parents built Baylor Investigative Agency, and I spent seven years growing it. It wasn’t just a business. It was the future and the core of our family.
I had to keep going. “We probably won’t see Mom, Grandma Frida, or Bern and Leon again for a while.”
That got me a look of pure horror.
“We’d have to obey her and do whatever she wanted. I would be doing interrogations and lobotomizing people.”
I kept my voice even. They didn’t need emotion from me right now.
“Eventually Victoria will die. She’s old.” And that didn’t sound morbid. Not at all. I forged on. “Eventually we’d inherit House Tremaine.”
“How long?” Leon asked.
“I don’t know. She’s in her seventies. Ten years, maybe twenty.”
“Door number two, please,” Arabella said.
[final_countdown id=”FWsE2Jd” width=”300px” height=”150px”]
Part 3 will be coming in a couple of days.
Kristi says
How many days left?
Brianna says
It comes out July 25th, so that would be 47 days.
Kristi says
Thank you for the clock.
Sharon says
what time zone is it set for?
sarafina says
Texas is in Central time, I don’t know the Daylight savings status.
Kristine says
Thank you!
wiedzma_florentyna says
Wow.
I guess it’s a good negotiation technic to start with big hit and than go softer.
I did not think about that option.
Will there be a snippet part 3 ?
Ilona says
Yes. You will get the whole Chapter 2.
Judy says
Thank God,,,, this is killing me 🙂
Kristine says
Yeah! Thank you.
Karen the Griffmom says
The collective we loves you.
Katherine says
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much! I’m loving the chapter.
Tink says
The Horde is pleased. The Horde is also salivating.
Patricia Schlorke says
Agree! Thank you!
Patience says
Long live the ravenous Horde!
I feel like I’m sitting at the table, wracked with anxiety over how to “neuter” the GFH, and how the heck am I gonna protect Arabella if I don’t even know what her magic is. Dum, de, dum, dum, duuuuummmmm.
Chris says
The BDH bows to your Greatness! I’m just glad we only have to wait 47 days, 13 hours. I may have to set a alarm and start reading at midnight. …
Rena says
I will, I am thinking about putting in for that day off work to make sure I have time for a through savoring.
DavidWD says
I just did that today. I was a zombie last Tuesday.
Angel says
Haha! I lucked out and had a quiet night shift so I was able to start reading at 1am exactly. It was hard to stop reading to get the few things done that needed to be done ?
Rena says
Thank you! And I love the timer, especially how it goes down to 100th of a second. 🙂
William B says
Ditto
Pat Crouch says
You sure you guys don’t have a snippet of Catalina’s power? Perhaps much more than a snippet. Thank you!
Betty says
Catalina used her power in White Hot.Everyone loves Catalina! Arabella used hers also in White Hot but no discription is given of it. I think she shape-shifts.
stephaney says
squeeeee! Thank you!
Teresa die hard fan says
Our authors are so cool. I always get the kindle edition and the audible. I know overkill but sometimes my eyes get tired. I can’t stop. Way too good.
lea says
I have already preordered my book. As I just finished “White Hot,” I cannot help but be pleased to get these snippets to keep me drooling until “Wildfire” is delivered. Thank you.
Rena says
Go with the big negative 1st, that way your preferred alternative doesn’t seem so bad by comparison.
Drew says
I just can’t wait.
I need a time machine so I can go foward to the release date of your books and then go back to just before I started reading so I can eternally read all of the books you will write for the first time.
Christiana says
Hah…one of the best ideas! I desperately need one, too! …or one of those flashy things from Men in Black to erase my memory right after finishing Wildfire….aaaah, the possibilities!! That would be awesome!
Joanne says
I CANNOT wait for my pre-order to come. These only serve to whet my appetite even more!
Claire M says
Cruel. Very cruel.
Thank you for the snippet, and brightening my day!! Bring on the next part…and you know, the whole thing 😉
Darlene says
I’m with Drew – time machine right now!! 47 days is a very long ways away from today O_O
If the publisher doesn’t extend the AuthorLords contract for more books in this series, they need a brain wipe from Nevada….just saying! LOL
Teresa die hard fan says
I went to the book store yesterday and tried to find their books. It was hard. I had to ask for help. I wonder why they are only in fantasy section and not in Romance also? Good news is that others were looking for their books at the same time. Should be in both sections. Other authors of that genre are in both.
sarafina says
At Barnes and Noble DFW, Kate is in Sci fi/Fantasy and HL is in Romance. But I think the way most places (including libraries) shelve books is by dartboard.
Tim Muszalski says
Ooh you sneaky author I was waiting for part two and when it came out I thought that would be the end but no you dangled part 3 now I need more you’re getting me addicted to the snippets good for you ?
Angel says
So evil!
I’m trying to read other books to tide me over but they are all blah because I want Wildfire!!! I’ll have to try re-reading them later in the summer so that I can actually give them the attention they deserve.
I can’t decide if the snippets are making that better or worse but I’m reading them anyway ?
I’m stuck playing scrabble and other word games to pass the time on my night shifts…
cmc says
Thank you!
liz says
Wow. That is a great “Buy My Book” snippet. You should add them to the amazon listings. Thanks for the read!
lynn says
Nope. I want the Rogan POV. I am going to buy Wildfire no matter what. The snippets just make me want a time machine more. *grin* I am still on the fence with Hugh’s book as to buy kindle or paperback. The thing is I buy paperback for books I read and re-read and re-read currently such as Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Lois McMasters Bujold, John Ringo (special circumstances series only), JD Robb and Paige Tyler (SWAT series). I buy kindle of books I only read once since I can only read those on my desktop. That said I have found Curran and Rogan POVs very helpful in rounding out Kate Daniels story and Nevada Baylor story and for them to be free kindle formats— hurrah.
kelticat says
I still think that Grandma Tremaine isn’t completely evil, since we are only getting Nevada POV, supposition, and someone’s bad reputation. But then I read a lot of Sherrilyn Kenyon and she has a habit of showing the same scene from different perspectives.
Chiray says
Sometimes people deserve their bad reputation. She’s on record for having lobotomized people. Just sayin…
sarafina says
I’ve read Sherrilyn Kenyon also, but she’s not writing Wildfire. I don’t think there will be some amazing switcheroo here.
Rena says
I want to see her reaction if she is there when an attack is made on Nevada. She would be pretty upset that someone was trying to kill her granddaughter and potentially the savior of her house and bloodline.
Pamg says
Considering the way she treated her son this lady does not get the benefit of the doubt.
joan says
The thing is, could Grandma Tremaine be portrayed as this super powerful Truly Evil (instead of just a plain bad, hateful person) and not be the main villain of the story? We got introduced to Caesar as the mastermind behind the conflict of the story and I am not sure Caesar is Grandma Tremaine. She commands fear, not the awe and respect that David Howling associated with Caesar. I suppose we could have multiple villains in the final book with different levels of villainy, and the Authorlords are probably going to keep us all guessing who is the real Ares until the end,
Teresa die hard fan says
Caesar sounds like he has Catalina’s power.
Joan says
I wonder what their powers are going to be called? I mean populism is already taken. 🙂
lynn says
Yes I agree with you that Victoria Tremaine would not be Caesar if Nevada portrayed her honestly and truly. However, I think she is a bad hateful person because she has never had any incentive to be otherwise.
Tink says
I think she’s evil. That said, the Authorlords do sound like they’re trying to make us like or at least somewhat forgive Hugh, and if we can forgive Hugh for what he’s done, then perhaps we’ll end up forgiving Nutter Nana (still love that nickname).
Maria says
I just started to whinge at the end when I saw the clock.!! Made me laugh on a miserable day!! 🙂
Andrea Smith says
That clock was cute. ?
Judy says
This is wonderful, thank you.
Carol says
The countdown timer is a nice Evil Authorlord touch.
Ami says
Yes! The clock is brilliant and evil and one little dose at a time to make sure I’m completely hooked is also smart in that drug dealer sort of way. And here I am bouncing and frothing at the mouth wanting more. Lol
Pamg says
Driving me crazy!
Diane L says
Wow! What a teaser! Good thing this book is coming out soon . . . 🙂 Thanks!
Fan in California says
AGREED!!! ?
Katelin says
Just post the whole thing here. That’s all we need. 🙂
Paula Schultz says
I’m dying to know what Arabella’s magical talent is
Sorah says
Same! What could possibly be SO bad that everyone would stick her in a cage?
Rena says
If she shape-shifts into something like a dragon? That might do it.
Teresa die hard fan says
Dragons have been a nice e theme. Nevada keeps referring to them.
Patience says
Right. Rogan destroys cities for goodness sake.
What animal (or maybe not) could Arabella be that would threaten, or potentially threaten if she could not control her magic, the country, much less the Houston area? My mind’s a boggle.
Tink says
Good point. Why would Arabella’s power be more of a concern than Rogan’s?
Zan Lynx says
At the end of the last book the soldiers said a monster took the girl away. I’m thinking her talent makes her like the Hulk somehow.
Patience says
Your right. If she had been a recognizable animal, fictitious or otherwise, they would have named the animal and not “monster.” I guess it depends on how far their minds were corrupted.
Barbara Jones says
Nevada kept asking Rohan to make the hole in the wall bigger. Apparently she is huge when she shifts.
Kirsten says
You would think that after waiting so long for White Hot that it would be easy to only have to wait a few measly months for Wild Fire… that sadly is not the case >_< … but we will prevail!
Thanks for the snippets!
Charis N. says
Isn’t that weird? Maybe some kind of the greater the proximity = the greater the need. I NEED that book!!!! ?
Patience says
Isn’t that some physics law?
Tink says
There’s a blackhole somewhere whose intense gravitation force is distorting time and slowing it down from our perspective.
Damn physics.
necroline says
I know it’s rude to whine when you’ve been kind enough to provide those already but, please tell me there’s a part 3 coming soon ! :'(
Patience says
IA said in a couple of days. I figure Friday.
Catlover says
i need to go do something useful but i’d much rather bury my head in a book and read the world away. Unfortunately that doesn’t pay the bills. Thanks for the chapters. should have them memorized by the time the book is out. This is a great series. I recommended it and Jodi Taylor’s series yesterday. She has another book coming out this summer too.
Robin C says
*whimper* Time go faster please!!! *grabby hands*
Rene says
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
jewelwing says
Can’t. Wait.
Sean says
Wait that’s it? That was such a tease Ilona. I want more. Do you get a larger percentage if you presell your books, because now I have pre ordered Wildfire.
Joylyn says
Thank you for this! Personal stuff going on that is totally stressing me out and to see this in this in the morning is just the best start to my day! You guys are the best.
Noel says
Thanks! Nice surprise on a Wednesday morning.
sarafina says
I was expecting the rest of Chapter 2 on Friday, and was very pleased to see this today. Of course, the rest of Chapter 2 may not be delivered until Friday, but this snippet was VERY WELCOME!!!! Thanks.
sarafina says
When you start doing a weekly serial again, have you considered doing it on Mondays instead of Fridays? It would provide a boost to starting the week, imo.
Kelly Jacobs says
How are sales going?
I bought 3 copies of Whote Hot.
One kindle, one paperback for my Andrews collection…
and one book for my local library.
Simone says
I think the Authorlords magic is similar to Catalina’s. They write so well the BDH loves and adores them and can’t get enough 😉
Thanks for the snippet
Teresa die hard fan says
You have the cutest picture.
Rhoda says
the Timer is CRUEL, I Love it!
Your going to make the next two months crazy arn’t you Authorlords,
wont says
In case of any doubt, you have our full and undivided attention. I almost feel the need to set up shifts to watch for posts on the blog.
It’s interesting that, at least for the moment, both Nevada and Catalina project an attitude of confidence. As in they aren’t going to roll over.
Also, Rogan’s name didn’t surface in this conversation. That’s a bit surprising. Of course, in the manner of the best Author Lords, this was a short snippet.
Somehow you have managed to ramp up the wanting over what was (IMO) off the charts tension waiting for White Hot.
So, all I can say is….Next please!!
Di says
I have a feeling Rogan might be connected to door number 2 to help them be safe.
wont says
You’re probably right. He may run into a block from Nevada, wanting that independent thing. Then again, she has to know with his power on offer, she could better protect her family with his help.
sarafina says
I think Nevada is going to try to go it alone, if she can at all. She really wants to remain a whole person herself, not just an appendage of Rogan. Of course, she won’t cut off her nose to spite her face so if Rogan is the last best hope, she’ll take him.
Ericka says
Bwahahahahaha! I LOVE your counter! Thank you!
And thank you for the additional snippet! I came to the blog to ask if it was later in the week yet. 😀
Sorah says
Does this mean that all 3 girls are Primes? Arabella too?
Laurence says
Wildfire ? (Joking of course because I have nooo idea, I was just guessing Ilona’s go to answer.)
joan says
“I’m a prime”
“So am I”
Yes, yes, we’re all special.”
I’m going to read between the lines here until Wildfire says otherwise. 🙂
Patience says
I agree.
sarafina says
“Special” does not necessarily mean all are Primes. In this snippet Nevada is very clear she and Catalina are the prizes, and Arabella is not.
Simone says
Catalina and Nevada have the magic skills that Evil Grandma would want as they are complimentary to hers. The others have skills that, while useful, would not help her house lineage.
Angela Shikany says
The countdown timer made me laugh. Oh, this book is going to be so good. For a certain type of personality needing someone as Evil Grandmother needs Nevada makes for even stronger evil hatefulness. If EG is a sociopathic, narcissistic, sadistic, elitist control freak then the Baylor family are at high risk. I’m going with the thought that Nevada’s father knew what he was doing when he hid his legacy.
lee says
Also I wonder – Rogan said the 3-year grace period is “a cardinal rule that even Victoria Tremaine must observe.” What if she doesn’t? She seems to disregard all other rules and decencies. I’d love to see the Assembly take her on! (Or should that be, “take her out”?)
Teresa die hard fan says
There is no way EG is going to let Caesar get his hands on her primes.
kommiesmom says
Love the clock. Ordered the book months ago. Can’t wait for it. (Arrgh!)
Patricia Schlorke says
“The horror, the horror!” is what I thought when reading this snippet. I also kept thinking, “no way is Grandmother Tremaine is going to get her hands on the Baylor sisters!” This is going to get interesting when Rogan, Augustine, and Cornelius get into the picture.
Door number infinity? Create own House to keep out of EG’s clutches or servitude to House Rogan. Somehow I don’t think that Rogan would mind. 😀
Patricia Schlorke says
I forgot to mention the clock. The countdown is here. Why do I have the Mission Impossible theme going through my head with the “Here is your mission if you choose to accept. You must wait for Wildfire to come out July 25th. This message will dissolve in 3…2…1…mush.”? Ferret heist….countdown clock…..you would think the BDH doesn’t have anything else to do.
Sometimes I also hear the James Bond theme when reading the ferret heist.
Teresa die hard fan says
I love that you put sound with your reading. Way cool.
lynn says
I disagree. I do not think Rogan wants servitude from Nevada and her family. Just think when you add the three no, four as I think Bern is a Prime or maybe a high Significant while Leon is a Significant, males together Nevada has a nice diverse alliance backing her. Prime Rogan (TK) and his armed forces, Prime Augustine (IL), and Significant Cornelius (pre serum Animal Mage) with Bug and Bern on the electronics with Leon for backup. I am sure Bern knows his brother has a different magic from him and what it potentially is.
ReneeG says
Love the clock! And I’m very grateful on how things worked out for the release of White Hot and Wildfire. Yes, I complained when I heard about the delay (in my head), but it would have been a mighty terrible suck to have to wait for WildFire FOR A WHOLE YEAR instead of 47 days, 13 hours, 27 minutes, 53 seconds – no wait, 52 seconds – darn it, 50 seconds – oh, the heck with it.
Henry says
The timer is a symbol for a watched pot. It takes forever to boil. At least we can see an end but Rothfuss’ Third Day. West’s War, etc.
Amanda Young says
These snippets are coming at a perfect time for me. Thank you 🙂
Bee says
Argh! I cannot wait to gobble up the rest of this story and then read it again. Nomomnom. Thank you!
DianainCa says
Love it! Thank you for the snippets.
Bee says
Also, does anyone else see in their mind’s eye the Disney cartoon version of Cinderella’s stepmother, when they read the name Tremaine? 😀
Rena says
Actually I think of Cruella de Vil from 101 Dalmatians.
LBHG says
Yes! Definitely Cruella de Vil ?
Di says
Lady Tremaine is actually the real name of Cinderella’s evil stepmother in Disney so the name definitely has evil connotations.
Patience says
Oh, this Cannot be a coincidence. I absolutely love it. This book is going to be so good that every time I read “Lady Tremaine,” I’m going to have that Disney animated face in my head.
Brava Di for sussing out that piece of Disney trivia!
joan says
Gah! So thankful for this nuggets but so frustrated! I want the book now!!!! 🙂
From all the cage and sedation hints, plus from Bern’s comment in BFM at the beginning when he was holding back Arabella when the sisters were fighting (“Think about what you’re doing.” “We agreed – no violence”), I’m having this weird mental image of Arabella going Incredible Hulk/Super Saiyan in Great Ape form (Dragon Ball Z) when she gets really angry. 🙂
anainasia says
i mean we all already know what she will suggest next – unless she goes for 3 step tactic – either – starting their own house or take, suggest the middle way of working for Rogan or Augustin first – but the end scenario is registering the house… so even so this is not that exciting in terms of releasing new info.. I am still waiting for every word.. so definitely magic involved 🙂
Di says
If you really want to torment us, you should release one paragraph per day for the next 47 days. 😛
Could you also put chapter 1 on the website? The audible version of WHITE HOT doesn’t have it.
Patience says
Hey don’t give ’em any ideas.
Barbara says
Did I miss Chapter 1?
Kristi says
It’s at the end of the print versions of White Hot.
Margaret says
Okay, now it’s a little clearer why EG might be a big threat. I have this image of Arabella as the wolf man…..
Henry says
She needed a 45 foot high exit. I don’t believe Wolfwoman would be 45 feet tall.
Richard says
Door number two, please! Cool clock =)
Joanne says
I am so excited and happy that we’re getting Wildfire in 47 days, yet also sad and depressed that after I read it, there will be no more until you guys write the next one (or not!). This emotional roller coaster is exhausting! All I can say is, I hope Ilona Andrews has a long and fruitful career!
Mai says
Ahhh, I know! I never know at what pace….whether to blitz through or savour it. Savour obviously, but like consciously savour not natural pauses, which is hard and kind of ruins the rhythm. Like, ‘Enough! Put the book down Mai, you can have your next fix tomorrow’ kind of savour. Because otherwise I will devour this bishhh and feel all bereft and ish.
Nifty says
I usually take PTO on book-release days, but White Hot’s release day was too close to the end of the month for me to be able to take vacation. So I stayed up until midnight and waited for it to load on my Kindle, then read until 4:00. And then I tried to listen to it at work, which meant I didn’t really focus on work OR the story. All in all, it was a crappy way for me to digest the story.
I’m not making that mistake with Wildfire. I’ve already scheduled the day off, and I will read it at my leisure and really savor it.
Robin_WH says
46 days is way too long, I need to read it now. XDD
S. Dhawan says
OMG! It’s too much. I can’t wait and I’m reading White Hot again for the third time in a week. It’s just keeps getting better and it was unbelievably good the first time. Thank you!
Bluemandag says
That make me feel so much better. I just re-read both books back to back this week and felt a little obsessed.
Liz V says
Aaaaaaaauggh!!! Tease!!! Evil Authorlords!! Evil Teasers!!!
Thank you for the snippet though. 😀
Betty says
Caesar is………Lenora Jordan!
Nevada hero worships her, she is all about justice, and she has already been introduced in the book series.
Thats my guess. Anyone else have any thoughts on this.
Frances says
My head says you are right but my heart says ” no” because I don’t want someone who Nevada respects and admires so much to be capable of masterminding such wickedness. As I was reading White Hot it floated through my mind that she could be a logical choice but I want it to be someone else. Only about 7 weeks to wait and we will find out. I thought the long wait for WH was bad. Now I am so invested in this story and so keen to find out what happens I am finding the wait for Wildfire is torturous.
Simone says
Well from White Hot Nevada no longer puts Lenora on a pedestal. She recognizes she is a person on her third visit – tired, bags under the eyes etc. Foreshadowing perhpas? 🙂
Eusebia says
I wouldn’t be surprised is Cesar is Augustine. The deeper they go the more in revealed about each of ther magic. Soon he will know the full extend of all the Baylor’s and just how to defeat them. He also now knows Nevada is a gateway to Rogan.
I don’t see how Jordan can be C. She doesn’t have the money or the magic for that type of following. I don’t think it’s a character we know well, but if so, my money is on Augustine.
Alexandria Tristram says
Linus Duncan is clearly Caesar. He’s sincere.
Lynn says
That’s what I was going to say
Marjorie says
I agree, he wanted to change things.
Elisabeth says
Agree.
Nifty says
I hope not. I don’t want Augustine to be mixed up with the cabal.
Rena says
I don’t see how it is Augustine. There are too many times he says stuff to Nevada that she doesn’t get a buzz as a lie from.
Gogol says
Cesar is Rynda! I’m positive it’s Rynda. Nevada unsuspectedly let her in, and undertook to help her. Her husband has probably been disposed of, in a manner that she wasn’t complicit in OR her mother shielded her mind just in case. I’m sure it can’t be anyone but Rynda!
Koneko_8 says
Totally agree!!
Teresa Hughes says
Thank you! It looks great. I have it ordered in Kindle, Audible and paperback (gift).
Angela says
I love Nevada. Thanks.
Allan says
Buwahahaha the timer is genius.
Tink says
No it’s not. I can’t speed it up. It still says 47 days.
strangejoyce says
I agree with Allan and Tink! Reminds me of a detonator timer on doomsday machine in a movie—or the countdown to wonderful events like Y2K (IT folks, remember that?!?) or the number of days until Christmas. ? Anxiety is at a maximum level!!
Allan says
hence the genius. It’s a torturous reminder that we dont have the novel yet.
Tasha A says
Thank you…. But Good God you two are cruel! It’s like addiction!
Robin_WH says
Addiction can be treated with textbooks. Try one physical chemistry
MaryH says
Just to let you know the count down clock is a mean reminder we have to wait… 🙁 😉
Booklover says
Thank you for your gift. You are truly talented and that’s rare in a world of cookie cutter UF full of dominating Werebears and simpering heroines.
Carol says
You know I was just thinking about that today. In all of the series’ that the two of you have written, the majority of the female characters are strong. All of the lead females are strong with a capital S! I love that!!! And all of them are so normally flawed.
Thank you for the snippets! Totally great marketing! LOL
Lastly, the only time I really mind living in a small, out-of-the-way town in Arizona is when I read about your author trips/meet and greets. Oh well. Have a wonderfully successful time!
Mai says
This is not the first time I’ve had to wait for the next book in the series, it’s a really short wait comparatively. But for some weird-ass reason, I NEED this book.
Honestly, it’s a blessing bc exams start tomorrow but still…..
crimsonskyx says
You also have an exam tomorrow? T_T
Agett says
This is your next big hit after Kate Daniel’s if you keep it going. Rich world building engaging characters and unique magic. Pleases don’t let this be the last one. I feel like I’m just getting to know Nevada and her family.
Demi says
Incredible kind of you to share this with us to make the wait easier 🙂
( or more desperate i am not sure 😀 ) however: Thank you *heart*
i am looking forward to this book
Nineran says
I’m so very excited for a couple days from now when we get the next bit!
I keep staring at the timer, hoping it will speed up 😛
Thank you for sharing this, it will make the next 47+ days better while keeping me at a fever pitch of anticipation 🙂
Patty says
Wow! Actually my first thought was Holy C**p!!! (not sure if I can use that word here). Thanks for the snippet and LOVE the count down ticker! I’m patiently (not really) waiting for the release 😉
Tricia P says
So very excited for this book! Thanks so much for this chapter!!
lynn says
Thank you Ilona Andrews for Wildfire snippets.
A comment for Betty regarding who Caesar is. You do realize that Caesar could be Lenora Jordan but the head of the Movement could very well be someone else such as Victoria Tremaine who would receive/ get the needed loyalty to the Movement if it was known that Lenora was Caesar and the ultimate leader. I realize this is convoluted but I learned years ago that the one whom everyone thought was the decision maker and the power was really just a face for the ones that truly had all the power and ruled. This was corporate reality. How that translates into political reality I do not know but I suspect worms are worms no matter the reality.
sarafina says
Fictional reality?
Tara says
By this argument, I’m liking Rogan’s cousin for Caesar… One of the obviously powerful seems too easy a choice for me. Could this be a case of hiding in plain sight?
Sarah says
Sheeeeeets, I need to find something to hold me over for 47 days. Um… *checks Kindle* OK that’s a bunch of smut. Here’s hoping it lasts!
Stephanie says
God bless u
I live for ur snippets
Rohaise says
Arrrgh! That countdown timer at the and of the snippet made me swear. More please?
AngelMercury says
Ahh, I hope they’re about to address my question. How would they become a house without divulging too much info about Catalina’s powers?

A bit of mind wandering here… Looking at the Baylor family, the idea that ‘duds’ aren’t worth marrying off seems a bit… short sighted of their society (though still believable considering the arrogance of the magicaly-abled). It could be a bit of a gamble, but perhaps some families who struggle to maintain production of primes would still encourage their less talented children to ‘do their best’ for the family line. Or are the Baylors more outliers in this?
Patience says
They can’t. They have to hv 2 primes at registration, and we don’t even know for sure if Arabella and/or Catalina are primes yet. Maybe it’s Leon who is going to be the second prime. Secrets, secrets, and more secrets.
Rena says
Catalinia is a Prime, she announced it in White Hot. We think Arabella is as well from her response, that they are all special.
Simone says
They can’t. In White Hot Rogan said that the paperwork to become a house would take 48 hours and the testing would be set up. So Nevada and Catalina would have to be tested to see if they are Prime level.
MILLY says
Really with the count down. I’m already on edge waiting for July not helping. Thanks for the chapter though.
Pika says
““Door number two, please,” Arabella said.” THANK YOU Arabella, I was starting to have that “look of pure horror”.
Maybe, EG is just a sweet Grandma behind her shell. Maybe, she’s not evil at all. (Hope makes us live, right ? xD)
Gail G says
And door number three is…. can hardly wait to see what Family Baylor comes up with! The love thing makes me smile though I totally get how devastating that could be way too quickly. Onward.
Judy says
When Rogan’s mother married his father, she became part of house Rogan.
Nevada wants to start House Baylor, for defensive reasons. Her family would be safe for at least a few years.
If Nevada marries Rogan, can she haul her family to his house with her?
(If you already answered this question, I apologize, I didn’t see it.)
sarafina says
I haven’t seen the answer to that either. Although to get the three years, House Baylor would have to be declared. And while I’m sure Nevada wants to be with Rogan, she also values her independence.
Callie says
I am thinking Caesar is one of the people we saw at the party.
Samantha says
The older gentleman in the assembly.
Dpearl says
The old leader of the upstairs. Now that is a cool idea.
Amy says
How do we know if Grandmother Tremaine is really bad? What if this is all a misunderstanding and GM has a change of heart after her son left and she never got to meet her grandkids?
I need to read the end again because I rushed through it last time (falling asleep but couldn’t put the book down!)
Patience says
If she is so kind and sweet, why did she surreptitiously go behind family’s back to try to buy warehouse mortgage? Just a thought.
sarafina says
Where has she been for the past 25 years (Nevada’s life time so far)? I’m betting on evil, evil, evil.
LisaS says
Maybe she wanted to buy up the mortgage to protect them from Augustine. Maybe she went to Augustine to confront him–but found he had the [fake] hex… Which he tricked Nevada into applying, since he’s actually Caeser… (Or they could have been working together as a way to test her strength.)
I don’t want him to be Caeser–I want Rogan to have at least one friend.

Ya know, I was really annoyed when the publisher decided to delay White Hot, but I’m glad they wanted 2 and 3 released closer together.
Chiray says
Not only that, if she were reasonable, she could have tried to have a conversation with Augustine when she went to go see him. Instead, she turned around when she realized his mind was protected and left without saying a word. That kind of indicates that if she can’t take the info fro someone’s mind, it’s not worth the effort to engage. Arrogant at best and evil at worst. In either case, it doesn’t indicate she’s the type to engage in coversation and listen to the concerns and needs of other parties.
Avril says
Thank you!
Dpearl says
The best idea would be to assassinate her.
Sorah says
I think the should have Catalina use her powers in E.G. … And she’ll end up loving them!
Merrykat says
Mad Rogan vs Kate at Alpha Showdown??
Katherine Buchanan says
I can’t decide. So I didn’t vote. I love them both so much.
sarafina says
I voted for Kate.

Thank you for the snippets. They are like drops of water in a thirsty land! Here in Singapore, we have to wait an extra twelve hours after the release date before we can download the book. Boohoohoo!
