It has been one week since the typing ban and my joints and knuckles are one hundred percent better. My fingertips still hurt like all get out. ::sigh:: I tried some experimental typing and ow. Ow.
I am so tired. So tired. We’re at 22K on Diamond Fire and it’s time for the exciting finish. I am zombified. Dictating is a completely different animal then writing. I don’t even know if what we are writing is good or bad anymore. It just needs to die. Finish, finish, finish. Finish. Finish and give the thing to Erika and be done. OMG.
Gordon, looking over my shoulder at the Love Nikki game: Mermaid suit?
Me: Yes, but it costs a ton of diamonds. I would have to spend real money on this game.
Gordon, in a seductive voice: If we finish Diamond Fire today, you can have the mermaid suit.
Finish, finish, finish.

“I feel like this is a dumb question but I have to ask in order to prepare my self for for Magic Triumphs, also because I’m trying to be optimistic. I know that everywhere on here says that Kate Daniels will consist of 10 books and Magic Triumphs will be the 10th book. I just want to know if it will be the final book in the series. I honestly need to go into this book knowing if I have say good bye to these characters. No idea if I’ll get an answer or when I’ll get an answer but thank you in advance!!”
We’ve answered this before, but here it is again just in case anyone missed it. Kate and Curran deserve their HEA. They worked very hard for Happily Ever After. However, we are not leaving the world behind. There will still be 2 books in Iron Covenant, which will feature side characters from KD world. There will likely be shorter works, like novellas, or possibly a series with some side characters. It is likely that this will be self-published or, if it will be with a publisher, it will be in the future.
We are exhausted. We are six months into the year. We finished 2 full length books. We have at least 30K on the Sweep of the Blade and Diamond Fire will likely clock at 25K plus. We will have to do a book tour for Magic Triumphs. There is no way out of it. And we still will need to write the first Catalina book. We need a break. So we are going to be careful about planning future releases. 🙂 I can’t promise you that we will write more Kate novels, but I can’t promise you that if inspiration hits, there won’t be a surprise side novella or Curran POV. But the main series arc concludes with Magic Triumphs. You will have closure.
Ok, have to go write Diamond Fire. Finish, finish, finish.

So realistically I am just happy you do not write like George RR Martin. I am thrilled to see the HEA in this series . I am unsure if my other author will be alive for his series to end . I love y’all. I know it’s the end but realistically you have proved your not a one trick pony. I’ll love whatever you write or dictate. So rest up. Hugs

Have you thought about working with a occupational therapist developing a less damaging way of typing for your fingers? Stopping for a couple of weeks is good for the short term, but you need to work on a long term solution. Much like a singer needs a good voice coach to have a long and successful career, a good OT could help you develop good typing habits so you don’t need to go through this painful grief every couple of years. Wishing you all the best and a quick recovery.

I managed to trip and break both wrists, and I type on a computer all day for work too. I used Dragon Speak and wow, it was a frustrating learning curve in the beginning. Sometimes when I proof-read my own writing, what it thought I said was so far off what I actually said, I was too stunned to remember what I wanted to communicate. You deserve a medal, or better yet a really relaxing vacation, for your persistence with your writing. Thank you for all you do.

That’s quite a plate full of books for one year! Y’all have a kick-butt work ethic, but feel free to slow down so you don’t get burned out :). I think that waiting to plan more books is an obviously wise move :). I hope, someday down the road though to read about Arabella. It just seems like there should be more to the whole Metamorphose story and it can’t be as eliminated from the population as it seems, y’know? Dangerous waters though. If not that, I’d still love to read about Arabella, just because I like her, and she needs an HEA without being beaten down by the world, not that she likely world be, but I don’t know how it works happen. I’m sure you guys could do it though, if anyone could 😀 But not now. Maybe a few years down the road or something

I like the Kate books’ ethical stance and the humour and was hoping (before the series end announcement) that after the books from Kate’s POV, we’d get to read Curran-the-Mercenary-Lord’s adventures.

Be well and happy…
I for one will wait, maybe impatiently, but will wait for when you finish whatever is on deck.
I know it will be good.

That’s some A+ bribery right there. So glad the only suit I really wanted popped on first node. Fingers crossed you get lucky with Ocean Dream on 3rd node.

Because I love your books so much and have developed a personal fondness for you both through this blog, let me say, “REST UP!” I need your excellent stories to get me through my daily challenges. You need the money your talent brings you. So for the sake of all of us, please no risk taking. Do whatever you need. I will wait for you and be very grateful when you are healed, rested, and ready for the world again.

Honestly, I am amazed at the way today’s writers, such as yourselves, manage to turn out so many books in so little time. I’m in my 50’s. I remember when it would be years between books from the same author. I didn’t get newsletters, if they were even available, about what the authors were doing until after the interview became readily available to everyone. So I find it terribly rude when some of your readers start demanding more of your works, right now, this instant! Please, take what time you need to get the story where you want it to be. I understand you have deadlines set by your publisher, but take care of yourselves first. I’ve learned to be patient and wait for a good read.

Consider trying a “virtual” laser keyboard like

projecting onto a dark gray foam mat about 2 inches thick. Might reduce the impact forces onto your fingertips and hands. Best of luck on improvement.

I think that would drive me insane… and that is still immensely cool. Especially the touchpad version. (I’ve been wondering about whether something like an active whiteboard could be an alternate input device for artist friends who end up messing up their hands… though the pressure sensitivity is an issue. The right gloves! I could see it! … but I don’t know if there’s a plug and play system that would do it.)
Libby says
Gloves?? The possibilities! What about air-typing with gloves that recognize point in space? Hahah… how weird would that be….
You know what? They probably already exist…
Yup! Googled “glove keyboard” and there are results. Nothing schmick just yet, but it’s in the works… 🙂

Wanted to post a happy positive note of gratitude. I would love to see others start a gratitude frenzy here as well. I stumbled across one of your books in an airport and read it on the flight. Loved it and purchased more. I love your two’s sense of humor, the way the story flows and it is “tight” writing. I am grateful you spent so many hours typing (or dictating) to provide a bit of a “break” for me and others in their daily lives. I am also grateful how you two are honest and real in your blogs. Writing is tough hard work. You are real people with real lives just like the rest of us. I am grateful you have the strength to share those moments – not all do. Thank you for your gift you have given us.

Hi, please take care. If you need to rest your hands then do so. Your fans will wait and severely damage any one who tries to make you feel bad about it.
I have enjoyed your works. I read very quickly and I love that I can re-read your books and enjoy them. I do hope you do some short stories about raising the baby. The parent conferences in school when the little fellow just wanted to play with the school mascot. Which one looses their temper? Or when the baby snags a vampire for a playmate. Or the baby gets kidnapped and the kidnapers beg Kate to take her baby back. Just think in a couple years you could have Kate’s son fall in love with Hugh’s daughter. There are so many possibilities out there. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

I love all your books so as long as you don’t quit outright, EVER!!!!!! (Just kidding) I will be joyful. Also I’ve really dug the Hidden Legacy books a lot. And the Sweeps books. You guys are one of the few authors that I like ALL the universes you’ve created.

Hi, I’ve been a big fan for years & will continue to be in the future as I love all the books you write :)….Question, will you been adding any books to the Grey Wolf series, Magic Stars being the 1st? I really enjoyed the story & thought it had great potential as another side series. Just wondering if I should keep looking for another book. Hope your hands are feeling better. Thank you for all the enjoyment your storytelling has brought me over the years!!

Please give the fingers time to heal! And give NaturallySpeaking a fair shake. I took a day or two to train the darn thing and teach it the specialty acronyms and words for my day job. Then I taught it the words unique to my novel/SF project. It’s designed to improve with use. It will also read your text back to you, which can be very useful. Over time, using it becomes pretty intuitive.
God Bless,

Thank you for all the wonderful worlds and characters you both created (and all the typing you’ve done to share them).
I understand having medical issues interfere in life, lol, I’ve lost many plants during hospital stays. People who’ve not had the same experiences will never really understand the frustration. I’ve used Dragon naturally speaking it’s not as easy as talking lol though it’s better than nothing.
Thank you

Love all your stuff. Recently finished the Hugh and Elara book and was wondering how you would make me care about him given the Kate experiences… but you both more than pulled it off. I am glad you are working on resting the Golden Mitts that produce some of my favourite books in the world. Glad you will slow down release schedule after the stuff you are committed to!

Hi
Gotta start with – I say go with the virtual KB with the cushy foam ? We need those fingers protected ….
Started with Kate – from the very 1st book – loved her and her world from the beginning. Her and Curran.. What a show.. now HEA time.. (Small boo! strictly selfish I get it but I’ll miss her – but hey I got nine – almost ten great books, right?)
Now I’ve read everything. I’ve got a fund with your name(s) on it. Pre-ordering everyone you put out. ?? Only author I’m currently doing that for.
Iron & Magic , already finished…??? .. Intriguing. I say no more.
2 more to come? ?
So rest up, do a cool vacay…. percolate those imaginations…I’ll be waiting. Be well.
Oh, and thank you?
