Ilona Andrews App – this is a book-journaling style app that’s being beta tested right now. It lists our series, presents blog posts, has quotes, progress rewards, etc.

Wanderer Chronicles: Out Of Orbit – this is a farming sim video game set in the Innkeeper universe that is developed by Dizzy Hill.

The App

Why do we need the app?

It’s a fun way to keep up with your reading progress. It will have quizzes, lots of worldbuilding stuff, some free fiction, and most importantly, it will pick up our news, so you won’t have to worry about missing a release or a giveaway.

What information does the app store?

The app is stored locally on your phone. We don’t really keep any of your information. You are not logging into an online server or anything like that.

Are there in-app purchases?

No. The app links to our book and merch store, but you have to make your purchases online, separately of the app environment.

When is it available?

September. It is free and it will be implemented on iPhones first. If the demand is there, we will invest in the Android version as well. The initial launch version concentrates heavily on Maggie’s world, because we used it as our test case, but we will be adding Encyclopedia sections for Innkeeper, Hidden Legacy, KD, etc. as we go along.

What is the game about?

You crash land on a planet and end up running an inn. Due to plot reasons, it won’t be a full inn experience. This inn has less powers than Gertrude Hunt, but it will allow you to make specific rooms to attract guests. You will grow crops, harvest timber, mine ore, salvage space wrecks for parts, etc.

When is it available?

The game is a long way off. We expect at least 2 years until Early Access/ Beta Testing.

Which species appear in the game?

The game will have a mix of familiar species like the Otrokar, the Vampires, and the lees, but will also feature original species, not mentioned in the books. Some characters from the Innkeeper Chronicles might make cameos.

Because the Innkeeper Universe is so large, Dizzy Hill would like to know which of the alien guests you would like to see.

To enter, leave us a comment on this blog post and tell us what is your favorite species and why they should get a spot in the game.

Winner will be chosen at random and will win a $100 private shopping spree at our store. We will even resurrect the old Innkeeper designs for you like the Dushegub tote on request.

The giveaway is open to international readers with the caveat that not all items might be available. Winner will be chosen on September 4th.

    • Quillonians are a must especially if they are as dramatic as Orro. It would quickly add drama and interest to the story line. Maybe even be a side quest to collect/grow ingredients for a big dinner.

  10. This sounds great! I especially love the idea of the encyclopedia. Hoping this includes a cast of characters feature; I’ve always had problems remembering names, and now that I’m 62… Well, it can be challenging sometimes. Just relistened to Diamond Fire, and although I always love it, I really can’t keep the Italian family members straight.

    And I’m so excited about the app, then I re-read it’s only for I Phones and get bummed. I hate I Phones and will never get one, so if you ever get a chance for an Android app, this Android user will download it in a hot second!! Just FYI 🙂

  13. I think it’d be fun to have a Ku go on adventures with you, while they are on their own quests for honor and heroic feats.
    Wing was a fun and occasionally chaotic wingman.
    You could have it so Ku join the app IRL around Christmastime for the poinsettias, but maybe they stay if you have enough enticing adventures with them.

  14. The Lees. They are great characters with a bit of underhandedness to them. They make good traders and will add a bit of fun and interesting shenanigans to any storyline

    Werwolfs. Definitly. Fighter and Bard in one. I think I will play one as my next pen and paper char.

    I can”t wait for the Android version of the app, I’ll have to use my work-ipad for it and that’s not good for my focus at work XD

  17. I think the oomboles because the idea of them reminds me of fainting goats :). Also I love the higgra, probably because brushing a giant talking snooty leopard sounds like fun. In theory. I don’t know that they should get a spot in the game, but if there is a way to include them it would be fun to see it happen!

  18. George Camarine. If your building a world, who better to to add intrigue than an Arbitrator. He would keep manipulating the scenarios until you reach a logical conclusion with lots of unexpected twists and turns!

    • Spider herders (if you include them – the Inheritance did have a lees in it so it should count, right?) Otherwise the muckrats are fun.

      Definitely please make for Android!!

  21. Another vote for the koo-ko! But since they are so popular I’ll also add in the tachi from Maude’s book. They seem like they’d be fun with the changing colors and potential to arrange plates

    • Also a +1 for the space chickens (the koo-ko really do have a special place in the BDH’s heart) and +1 for the tachi, because it would be so awesome to see their colour-shifting alien-ness and the food mandala plates.

  34. my favorite species is the Hiru, because of the contrast of their cosmic garbage heap appearance and odor (especially the squirting pink lube), the tragedy of their story, and the beautiful, calming glory of their room with the swirling colored clouds and the Hiru soaking and crying in the pool beneath them

I would truly love to see ANY of your characters- lees, giro, ku, quillonians, tachi, barsa etc etc. However, I would like to have Gaston visit in his musketeer spacer outfit to dazzle us with good stories over a delicious meal made by Oreo. I also would love to see all the animals – Beast, void predator, etc etc

    • I can’t believe I left out the tachis when I gave my answer before, 1) the Ku 2) the Tachis 3) quillions 4) the Gaheas or another one of the Temples and it’s acolytes
      they all have fun, unique differences and they have specific types of needs that the innkeeper could address and create or grow things for in order to provide for their needs

  41. Please, whatever you do in the app, make sure that there is not only a log for tracking books but also the single narrator audiobooks and the graphic audiobooks. For those of us who have all three! 😉

  43. How about Higgra like Cyanide? They naturally will require a giant cat tree and all the brushes! Although I admit I do want to see the Dushegubs, too.

    Its not my favourite species, but the Ku would be really fun! I believe their kind of trouble would make a great sideline in a game.

  46. Species… it would have to be Maude. I know she’s half human but we know nothing about her bio-dad. And she has so much magic. As does Helen.

    • Maud is fully human 🙂 . Her father is a human man named Charles who divorced Helen before she met Gerard. The authors have confirmed he is not relevant to story and not an alien.

    Species … Many! But apart from the main ones, space chickens, but also something rare, like a dahaka,for instance, that has only somewhat been covered in the books.

    • Yes, Android! On one of the previous posts I did some research and posted that a majority of people in Europe use Android (it’s like 55%) and a lot of iPhones are company phones on top of that. I think an Android app would do really well here.

  48. You cannot have a game without the Koo-Ko. The mix of philosophy and absurdity the characters would bring to the game would be fun!

  49. I would love to see the Hiru. They’re names and culture and character designs would make interesting characters.

    My partner is introducing me to the series and we really found the Hiru very beautiful and memorable.

  50. The Higgra are my favorite. I mean, giant, talking cats (basically) with fingers. I think they would be great in the game because they produce a unique product, sing, and well, CAT.

  51. This is a great update on your digital plans! I would really like the Higgra to be in the game because a) cats, b) big cats and c) I thought their web weaving sounded cool.

  55. Maaaaan, so many species, such a hard choice. I don’t think my first choice qualifies since they are Innkeeper-adjacent and tbh they probably wouldn’t leave their swamps (thoas!) so I will go all-in on the tachi. Any species that loves science, learning, and exploration would go far and wide to discover more.

  60. I think the vampires should be in the game. They are so much fun to have around with their rich history and their way of life. Their sense of honor, makes them a great character to have on board.

  70. This is so exciting! I love farming games. My favorite species? The Lees, because they are so adorable and so deadly. Oro is a close runner up, because who doesn’t want a dramatic hedgehog in the kitchen?

  71. The Otrokars would be awesome. The BDH got its name from the Hope-Crushing Horde, after all. Preferably with a few savoks. Perhaps demonstrating that one knows how to ride a savok properly can be a a side quest. 😅

    • Yes, they both (phone/tablet) use the same software, ios!

      I’m unsure which of the latest update it will need, so the only exception would be if it’s an older model that doesn’t update anymore.

    I know Android is more complicated to develop for, but I hope we see an Android version of the app and game (unless game is meant for PC rather than phone)

  92. I appreciate the vote for the Thoas, hearing them sing to moon while other wildlife fluoresce in bright colors is one of my favorite images. The Sislaf haven’t been mentioned so I’d like to put in a vote for them.

  93. My favorite character species are the Lees. Why should they be in the game? They are cute fuzzy beings with elaborate outfits, elaborate interiors / props, the possibility of intrigue and interesting story lines, and fun noises 🙂

    Any of the familiar Innkeeper species guests would be fun and entertaining even Dushegubs and the Philosopher Space chickens, but the Otrakars are my pick.

Since you mentioned that lees and vampires and the horde are already part of the development, I would second my fellows that Orros race, space chickens, and werewolves are a must to round out the core character list. Otherwise I just want this game to come out in console version because I’m so bad at playing cozy on PCs.

  108. I would like to see Caldenia ka ret Magren somewhere in the game, tomatoes, and more of the species from her world.

    She’d make a lovely character to interact with.

    I’m torn – I think the Lees would be easy to incorporate since they are traders (and murderous and fluffy are bonus!) but the Ku would throw in a lot of very fun chaos.

  144. Looking forward to both! Definitely would love to see the First Scholar and the space chickens in the game; Gaston, George & Jack, Cookie, Gorvar, Oond of the oomboles, and Lady Wexyn; Arabella in her beast form & Leon; Sushi; Grendel & Marigold.

  146. The Merchant lees would be awesome. They bring out the “cute factor” that will attract a certain type of clientele to the game. Furthermore, these lees would be able to make deals and bargains. I know that I would feel super proud if I could broker a good deal with that species. Finally, they are quite handy in a fight despite their cute and cuddly appearance.

  157. My fellow Hoard members have all given wonderful suggestions. I personally, would like to see more about the squirrel-esque species that assisted Orro in the kitchen during the last book. (Sorry, can’t remember her name.) They would make a very cute characters.

    I only have android devices with absolutely no access to any i-type devices, so another plea for the ‘droid.

  158. I love the Lee, and made all the excited squee!! sounds you can imagine when one showed up in The Inheritance. Its possible it was late, I was reading quietly and my husband was sleeping soundly when said outburst happened. Its amazing how like a Quillonian he can look when startled out of a sound sleep.

  160. My favorite species in the Innkeeper Universe is the Lee’s. The cuteness as defense, the wily merchant, and the cultural background make it a favorite for me.

  162. Picking a favorite is so hard. I think the vampires are my favorite species. The Lees are too smart for me to keep up with. the Hiru hurt my heart with their suffering. I love them too much.

  172. They’re not my favorite species but I feel the Dushegubs would provide a natural complexity to taking care of them and their room and meat-needs! They can make weird requests and be difficult to please. Perfect villains or difficulty species to introduce, I feel!

  182. The Muckrats are funny and I think they have a lot of potential to add gameplay elements such as trading and scrapping stuff as an alternative to the Lees.

    Innkeeper: Lees. I’d love to see home planet infighting and deal-making among the bosses.
    Inheritance: Gress — detailed backstory in the book is a tantalizing look into an alien species.
    Edge: The Thoas. More about their people? Their songs. What happens when they’re attacked while entranced by the moon?
    KD: Moloch background, some stories.

  197. I’m torn—I’m amused by the Space Chickens and I respect the Lees for their cunning and subterfuge. Vampire culture is endlessly entertaining. The Otrokahr (sp?) have democracy and an interesting spiritual tradition. And then there’s Otto’s people.

    But I’m going to go with the Lees, cute but deadly.

  198. Another vote for the Lees. They are criminally cute and cunning and happen to make their way into different parts of the universe so it would make sense for them to stumble upon your inn and find economic opportunities.

  205. I would like to see an interview from Atsany. The gnome like person from the Kate Daniels series. Of course to do this there must be some way to have a mirror “Earth” as part of the Alien universe, like peeling back an onion layer or something. But if you can do that you can add all kinds of new/old characters into the mix, like you brought in George.

  213. I always have a hard time with favourites. Why just one? But… my bias was definitely revealed when reading the Inheritance and before any information could be revealed (in a scene that I won’t mention for spoilers) I KNEW. The noises I made were probably more kin to a Lees than a human.
    Plus Nuan Cookie can’t be rivaled for cuteness. I will not be accepting alternate opinions. Its just facts.

    I would still like the game either way but there has to be lees or my heart might break.

  216. The Barsas are my favorite! They’d be good for the game because they provide the challenge/puzzle of trying to figure out what they want when all they say is “barsa” (and the giant snail could tag along!).

    • They have a snippet of the gameplay and they actually show a Barsa!!! I just looked it up because I wasn’t sure whether it was a Barsa or a muck rat.

  217. My favorite “species” is Her Majesty Caldenia. She is well-versed in intrigue and sees through ulterior motives. Yet, at the same time, she indulges in simple pastimes (gardening, cooking) and enjoys life.

      My favorite for the game are the Medamoths. If only for their bad poetry. And I hope the managed to become friends with the Otrokars and the Vampires. If these three species get together they would be invincible.

  450. I’d love to see the Dushegub in the game. I like the idea of having them appear when you have reached a level where you have more power over the Inn and more resources. I wouldn’t necessarily say they are my favorite species, but I do love that their philosophy starts with murder and if all else fails… murder. 😄 I think a lot of people struggle to understand the difference between sentience and sapience in practice. You highlighted that struggle perfectly in the scene where Sean tells Dina the Dushegubs were frozen on the lawn. She automatically objects because that would be torture to an emotion driven species, and he reminds her that they don’t have feelings. I think it would add an interesting element to game play in a way that no other game has. Even “emotionless” robots are driven in game play by emotion because the people who built the robots have emotions. You also posed a question, where did the Dushegubs get Unessa, do they have more? That question was not answered, adding Dushgubs to the game could give you a place to answer those questions.

    • I deeply appreciate this answer. Sentient vs sapient is a difficult concept for most. It also drives philosophical questions of ethics given the different perceptions of each. The concept of that punishment was antithetical to Dina’s ethics, yet, said ethics were based on the belief such treatment would be torture for all. It wasn’t torture to the punished, so should it be against her ethics? It wasn’t a matter of ignorance, they were incapable of experiencing that sort of torture. First scholar material for first year students, indeed!

  451. How exciting! My favorite species are the Lees. Tricky, conniving, and ruthless they may be, but they also present as charming, fluffy, and lovers of bargaining. Families are their top priority, with money the big safety tool for them. They are delightful seasoning throughout the Universe, and sometimes servers of Just Desserts.   456. I find myself in good company, struggling to choose a “favorite.” I generally dislike that question as my neurodivergent brain promptly requests clarification. The question of favorite character, species, series, author, musician, etc is generally impossibly broad for me. Sticking to Innkeeper, and not main characters as they are certainly already spoken for, I must say I adore your large, singing, weaving cats! Yarn bags with either one of them, or the dushigoob (sorry spelling) one pictured would be most excellent!

    The horde has covered all the excellent answers and reasons already. I think the assassin law-bringer who had to fight his instincts would also be fun to work with.

    I am not terribly speciest with House Andrews writing. I am enthralled by how well y’all avoid one dimensional characters. I will say I love listening to Innkeeper as my name is Dena. I’ve never run into my name in common literature before. Dina is a Hebrew spelling of my name. One I got used to when I had an internship supervisor who was an Orthodox Jewish man. My spelling was once the British English effeminate of Dale, which was my father’s name. I’ve never met anyone with my spelling, and very few with my pronunciation, over the course of my life. I genuinely love listening to HA’s audiobook series with a true main character who shares my name! I am looking forward to the re-read!

    I’ve been on it for hours and am thoroughly enjoying all the stories and new little clues… the encyclopedia has some new things for This Kingdom especially. Not that too much is said about them, but now I have more for speculation.

    Oh, on another note, I didn’t realize that I was supposed to include my favorite species. I filled a suggestion comment earlier with a species that I thought would be fun for the developing game.
    So I had mentioned the Ku, thinking they’d be fun, loyal companions who bring the chaos.
    I can’t say they’re my favorite species. I rather love the Lees, but it was mentioned that they’d be in the game already.
    So yeah, I’d stick with Ku for chaotic fun, but would also enjoy brief encounters with Dushegubs around Halloween (or all throughout the year). They’re so single-minded and straightforward about it.
