Something we say a lot as a Horde is that our authors could turn every single one of their supporting characters into the lead of a story we couldn’t wait to read.

In honor of one of the most beloved secondary characters who recently broke into the protagonist club, let’s see if the quiz can guess who your remaining favorite is.

  7. I’ve come up with Caldenia twice, Grendel, and Bug. Totally fun quiz. But the character I would most like to see more of is Conlan.

  10. I have no idea how most of the answers I picked relate to Luther Dillon, but he’s who came up when I took the quiz, and he most certainly IS my favorite secondary character – though followed closely by Doolittle.

  15. I got Luther. I actually do like him a lot.
    Even more than Caldenia or Bug.
    Not sure about Augustine, though. He’s pretty great as well.

    • Eh. I have a cat-dog, I don’t see why not! 🙂

      My dog demands doors be opened for her and petting is only when she wants, while she wants. She sometimes fuax-purs, which sound like a growl if you don’t know her.

      My last cat would come when called, played Fetch, and would bring me toys when he was bored. I seem to straddle the dog-cat fence a lot.

    • There is granted not much intelligence behind my efforts, but it’s definitely not artificial 🙂.

  27. I got Luther, which is a actually a pretty solid top pick for me. I was probably going to pick one of the Centurians, but Luther is probably about even with them.

  32. I do like Dr Luther Dillon. I am not sure that he is my favorite, but he easily could be if he had more press.

    The one question which really bothered me that I could not answer correctly is the one about how I view “enemies”. There is a verse in the Bible (end of Roman’s 12) which talks about being nice to enemies is equal to heaping burning coals on their heads. I try to follow that example. The fact that it confuses them just adds to the fun.

  35. Mod R, I want to thank you for this quiz: it came at a perfect time for me, as I really needed a little fun, and the question about family really hit home. I apologize ahead of time for this rambling comment. (Please delete it if it’s not appropriate to post here, I will understand.)

    It hasn’t been a good week.

    One sibling and I have been almost totally estranged from some other siblings and my mom (who has issues and who caused all of this) for years. We’ve tried to ignore all of their behavior and mend fences with them many times (because, you know, family) but each time we just got more abuse and head games from them.

    Mom is now down to her last few hours…so yeah, not an easy week, with much sadness and second-guessing as to what we should do. My sibling decided to go see them all and again just got more abuse. I decided my sanity and own well-being is more important so I am done. I’m staying home and saying prayers for all of them.

    My sibling and I have each other (and our spouses and kids) so we’re fine, but it’s still so sad and very stressful. We also have friends and extended family through in-laws that make life worth living. As one of the quiz’s family question answers said, family isn’t necessarily the blood relations. It’s only taken me 60+ years to figure this out.

    Thank you for letting me vent (even if you need to delete this it has helped) and thank you for the quiz. It was a fun diversion.

    • I’m so sorry for what you’re going through, Kat. It’s not always an easy choice, but our own oxygen mask has to go on first.

      • Thank you, I really appreciate it. 💕💕 There is so much more to the story (as you would expect) but bottom line, I’m protecting my child too. Families….you just can’t invent some of this stuff.

    • Hey Kat,
      Do what you need to do to keep yourself, your child, etc safe. It is ok to stay away. I didn’t speak to my father for the last 11 years of his life, and do not regret it. I mourned his death, and the death of any possibility he might become a decent person who could b in my life. But I also felt like the world was a safer place. You are likely to have complicated feelings, but knowing that you have had to protect yourself to protect your child is a lifeline. Breaking the cycle of abuse is hard, but necessary work. You are stronger than you know and will get thru this! You are not alone. ((Hugs))

  41. Hey! I was just thinking that I wish I knew more about Bug. I mean, sure he doesn’t have immediate sex appeal a la beautiful Augustine or Jiang in the series, but everytime I read a scene with him I say, “I wonder what happened” and “awww sweet guy deserves a HEA”.

    • His HEA is, I think, just being the best Bug he can be 🙂, not a romantic one. And with the Rogan-Baylors, who look after him and love him without forcing him to “fit in”
      more than he can manage, he probably has reached it.

      • I have to admit that the idea of Bug falling for someone would be interesting to explore.

        With his surveillance skills, he’d be like the ultimate stalker. Figuring out how to spin that aspect of him so it doesn’t come across as creepy/ick would be an interesting challenge. haha!

  44. When I took it based on my own personality I got Luther.

    When I took it based on what I would want in a side character I got Caldenia.

  45. Haha I misunderstood and answered more as ‘myself.’ I got Grendel the black dog. But later in the quiz I saw Caldenia type answers, and I’m thinking – damn, if this is a poll, I vote Caldenia all the way!!! If we get a Caldenia story I’d be over the moon. Of course, I got my Roman wish, so I will be patient and grateful as one small cog in the BDH.

  46. Apparently my favourite is Luther, very intriguing as I do enjoy him as a character but wouldn’t have immediately jumped into my head when thinking about supporting characters 😊

    • Thanks for letting us know, Kathleen. It’s not just you, many reports of the same. It’s the first quiz we’ve done on the blog since we switched newsletter providers and apparently they’re not at all fans of our Quiz plugin. We’ll raise a support ticket or replace the quiz creator 🙂

  76. I got Bug. While I like him, that’s a stretch. As usual, I generally had to choose between two sort of close answers. I’ll try again and pick the other answer.

    • That time I got Luther, much less of a stretch and possibly even correct (I have lots of favorites). FWIW both times it took the algorithm, if that’s the correct term, quite a while to process.

      • I think the slowness is because it jumped from 4200 people to 5619 in the last half an hour. Everyone’s quizzing 😀

  89. Fun! First time through I could tell I was picking Luther and then kept trying for him, but could also spot Grendel as an answer. The rest I had to read the comments to ID. Then when I tried to pick out the right answers for all the options, I was able to pick out Bug and Orro but I ended up with Caledenia the first time I tried for Pancakes.

    I really like Luthor, even if he does call Kate names to her face – no backbiting, open and honest. Except when something happens and she needs his input or help, and then he is all in to assist and support however he can.
