Dina: Welcome, dear BDH, to the new edition of the Frinnterviews. Today we have two guests from a different Earth with us: Adaline Moore, Dimensional Breach Resource Assessor; and Elias McFeron, Guildmaster of Cold Chaos. Our chef prepared special refreshments and some snacks.
Elias: Are these… what are these?
Dina: They are gourmet triple chocolate cupcakes, and they are shaped like Guardian Guild emblems.
Elias: Why Guardians?
Dina: Orro thought you would have fun “devouring” them. Since they are your rivals.
Elias: I wouldn’t say the Guardians are our rivals. We all stride toward the same goal: repelling this invasion and protecting our planet.
Ada, rolling eyes.
Elias: What about those?
Dina: These are cheesecake bites with piped mauve flowers, and this is whiskey and honey panna cotta with chocolate Grasping Hand dipped in red wine glaze.
Elias: How did he make the red lattice?
Dina: I’m not sure. I think it’s a type of cookie called coral tulle.
Elias: I’ll try the cheesecake.
Ada: Are you allergic to nuts?
Elias: No. Are there nuts in these?
Ada: Yes.
Elias: Good to know. … These are incredibly delicious.
Ada: We are sitting inside a semi-sentient tree, disguised as a house, while it is generating its own space-time by bending the rules of physics, and you are eating cheesecake.
Elias: What can I say? I’m a man of courage.
Ada: Yes. Nerves of steel. And low blood sugar.
Elias, smiling: Things got a little heated in the Ft. Campbell breach. We came out barely an hour ago. It’s always a race to the gate once the anchor is destroyed.
Ada: Did 101 Airborne finally give up and call the guilds in?
Elias: We were asked to assist. I’m sure they had it well in hand.
Ada: Let me save you some time, Dina. You’re not going to get much out of him. He is in Guildmaster mode. He will give you smooth, political answers in a way that ensures that absolutely nothing he says could be used against him or Cold Chaos.
Dina: Is that true?
Elias: Depends on the nature of the question. While we are here, I have several questions myself, Ms. Moore.
Ada: I prefer Assessor Moore and I’m not here to answer your questions. I’m here as a courtesy to everyone who put us in the Amazon #1 bestseller spot. The authors worked very hard, and they are very proud.
Dina: Is she pleased?
Ada: She showed the #1 to the computer repair guys to get his desktop repaired faster.
Elias: That’s not pride. That’s communicating the urgency of a crisis requiring immediate resolution.
Dina: How did that go, by the way?
Elias: He might need a new motherboard. They adjusted the BIOS, and it’s working for now.
Ada: Our time in the spotlight was short. They’ve already shifted gears to working on the extra material for the special editions of This Kingdom.
Elias: Mhm. I’ve read it. It’s good. An interesting isekai.
Ada: I had no idea your vocabulary included that term. Perhaps, the vice-guildmaster’s influence?
Elias: I’m well read. Although I prefer LitRPG myself. Back to questions.
Ada: Dina, did you have any questions for me?
Dina: Yes. Are you planning on returning to your work as an Assessor?
Ada: That’s what I do. It’s my small way of contributing to our fight against the invaders.
Dina: Do you plan to make use of the knowledge acquired in the breach?
Ada: Of course. Assessors are constantly learning. We gather information in every breach we enter.
Dina: Elias, my next question is to you. Have you chosen the name for your cat?
Ada: You must be joking. My children watched him interact with Mellow. The guildmaster is definitely not a cat person.
Elias: It’s between Reaper and Buttercup right now. We will figure it out. Speaking of names, Dina, did you know that human linguistics is quite interesting? No matter what language it is, when people pronounce unfamiliar names for the first time, they tend to pause slightly. It’s an unconscious hesitation. Also, we tend to start sentences with names.”
Dina: I didn’t know that.
Elias: Curious, right? When one says something like Ighrr tsee Rakalan dresst, and the other person starts the next sentence with Rakalan, it’s a good bet that Rakalan is a name…
Ada: …
Elias: It’s interesting what a qualified linguist can glimpse from a recorded conversation. I have a whole bunch of names, Rakalan, gress, Tsu…
Ada: Dina, if you care about the survival of our Earth, expel him now.
Dina: I’m sorry, the Guildmaster had to leave us early. Duty calls.
Ada: Thank you.
Dina: I understand the need for discretion. Secrecy is paramount to the very existence of the inns.
Ada: I appreciate you inviting us to visit. Before I go, I did want to ask one question.
Dina: Of course.
Ada: Have you ever heard of Baha-char?

That was a great ending. Even though the 3 guild members got to see a bit of what happened. The sequel will be great. Wonderful world-building, great weapons, great new creatures and people. The fact that it was in serial form was such a gift. Can’t wait til the next brilliant idea, fun, quick, serial for the site. How lucky are we?
What do you think the chances are that Elias starts requesting Ada specifically for gate clears? And how long before something happens and Ada has to reveal more of her new skills?
Thank you for this. Did you spend some time chanting, “ We are Number One!!!”
I am very excited for you. All of your books should be number one.
Ah where do I find whiskey honey panna cotta? That sounds delicious!
We’ve already seen people from alternate earths in Dina’s version of earth. A certain, sometimes pesky regulator / negotiator comes to mind. And Baha-char connects to lots of places. Plus, we get interaction with another Lees family? Sweet!
I’m glad I sat on my impulse to read this in serial form because I devoured it quickly. I very much hope this becomes a regularly updated expansion of the Innkeeper-based universe. Glad to hear there will at least eventually be one sequel to this book.
Thank you ever so much, IA. You brought much joy AND maybe dropped entirely in our laps the origin of those pesky capes Dina’s had the misfortune of encountering.
If it’s a male cat then Reaper if female Buttercup.
Eliada!!!
And hoping they can be friends, so Bearcat!!
(Silliness rules)
Congratulations to HA on #1!!! so not a surprise to those of us who were stalking Amazon at midnight and couldn’t believe our luck at the early release (had to buy from them cos I’m in South Africa).
Wish I had caught the earlier blog posts – I wanted to suggest Phoenix as the cat’s name. The colours work, and theme of rising up reflects both Ada’s survival and the cat’s (helped along by Elias’ newfound healing ability, in the case of the latter). Plus it could work for both male and female.
And it wouldn’t make Elias blush 😆.
I have to say that after Ada asked about Baha-Char, I spent my weekend re-reading the Innkeeper Series
Love the continuity
Buttercup, attack! See how nice that sounds? And now Ada knows that Elias knows some of what happened in the breach! Also, yay, Frinnterviews are back! (And I’m hungry now, Orro, smh.)
I am absolutely furious about how fantastic this book is! I devoured it in 15 hours and I cannot believe i have to wait an undetermined length of time for the next installment. 😉 anyways, you guys are great. thanks for being my favorite authors. and, you know, I guess take some breaks for your mental health and all. (sighs dramatically) 😆 😊
Will there be an Arabella trilogy anf if so, when?
Will there be another book in this series!
Now I’m really hoping there is a crossover book with the Innkeeper series!
Thanks to HA for the serial and the final Inheritance.
I’m shocked Fluffy isn’t one of the choices. Given the BDH’s ongoing efforts to b fluffy, it seems like it should b.
FrInnterviews r always fun! TeamFluffy!
