Dina: Welcome, dear BDH, to the new edition of the Frinnterviews. Today we have two guests from a different Earth with us: Adaline Moore, Dimensional Breach Resource Assessor; and Elias McFeron, Guildmaster of Cold Chaos. Our chef prepared special refreshments and some snacks.
Elias: Are these… what are these?
Dina: They are gourmet triple chocolate cupcakes, and they are shaped like Guardian Guild emblems.
Elias: Why Guardians?
Dina: Orro thought you would have fun “devouring” them. Since they are your rivals.
Elias: I wouldn’t say the Guardians are our rivals. We all stride toward the same goal: repelling this invasion and protecting our planet.
Ada, rolling eyes.
Elias: What about those?
Dina: These are cheesecake bites with piped mauve flowers, and this is whiskey and honey panna cotta with chocolate Grasping Hand dipped in red wine glaze.
Elias: How did he make the red lattice?
Dina: I’m not sure. I think it’s a type of cookie called coral tulle.
Elias: I’ll try the cheesecake.
Ada: Are you allergic to nuts?
Elias: No. Are there nuts in these?
Ada: Yes.
Elias: Good to know. … These are incredibly delicious.
Ada: We are sitting inside a semi-sentient tree, disguised as a house, while it is generating its own space-time by bending the rules of physics, and you are eating cheesecake.
Elias: What can I say? I’m a man of courage.
Ada: Yes. Nerves of steel. And low blood sugar.
Elias, smiling: Things got a little heated in the Ft. Campbell breach. We came out barely an hour ago. It’s always a race to the gate once the anchor is destroyed.
Ada: Did 101 Airborne finally give up and call the guilds in?
Elias: We were asked to assist. I’m sure they had it well in hand.
Ada: Let me save you some time, Dina. You’re not going to get much out of him. He is in Guildmaster mode. He will give you smooth, political answers in a way that ensures that absolutely nothing he says could be used against him or Cold Chaos.
Dina: Is that true?
Elias: Depends on the nature of the question. While we are here, I have several questions myself, Ms. Moore.
Ada: I prefer Assessor Moore and I’m not here to answer your questions. I’m here as a courtesy to everyone who put us in the Amazon #1 bestseller spot. The authors worked very hard, and they are very proud.
Dina: Is she pleased?
Ada: She showed the #1 to the computer repair guys to get his desktop repaired faster.
Elias: That’s not pride. That’s communicating the urgency of a crisis requiring immediate resolution.
Dina: How did that go, by the way?
Elias: He might need a new motherboard. They adjusted the BIOS, and it’s working for now.
Ada: Our time in the spotlight was short. They’ve already shifted gears to working on the extra material for the special editions of This Kingdom.
Elias: Mhm. I’ve read it. It’s good. An interesting isekai.
Ada: I had no idea your vocabulary included that term. Perhaps, the vice-guildmaster’s influence?
Elias: I’m well read. Although I prefer LitRPG myself. Back to questions.
Ada: Dina, did you have any questions for me?
Dina: Yes. Are you planning on returning to your work as an Assessor?
Ada: That’s what I do. It’s my small way of contributing to our fight against the invaders.
Dina: Do you plan to make use of the knowledge acquired in the breach?
Ada: Of course. Assessors are constantly learning. We gather information in every breach we enter.
Dina: Elias, my next question is to you. Have you chosen the name for your cat?
Ada: You must be joking. My children watched him interact with Mellow. The guildmaster is definitely not a cat person.
Elias: It’s between Reaper and Buttercup right now. We will figure it out. Speaking of names, Dina, did you know that human linguistics is quite interesting? No matter what language it is, when people pronounce unfamiliar names for the first time, they tend to pause slightly. It’s an unconscious hesitation. Also, we tend to start sentences with names.”
Dina: I didn’t know that.
Elias: Curious, right? When one says something like Ighrr tsee Rakalan dresst, and the other person starts the next sentence with Rakalan, it’s a good bet that Rakalan is a name…
Ada: …
Elias: It’s interesting what a qualified linguist can glimpse from a recorded conversation. I have a whole bunch of names, Rakalan, gress, Tsu…
Ada: Dina, if you care about the survival of our Earth, expel him now.
Dina: I’m sorry, the Guildmaster had to leave us early. Duty calls.
Ada: Thank you.
Dina: I understand the need for discretion. Secrecy is paramount to the very existence of the inns.
Ada: I appreciate you inviting us to visit. Before I go, I did want to ask one question.
Dina: Of course.
Ada: Have you ever heard of Baha-char?

Quick reminder that our Inheritance Zoom Q&A is tomorrow, Saturday August 16, at 10:00 a.m. Central Time (CT).
Good news: registration has been extended so if you want another chance to join us live, the link is here.
Not sure what that is in your neck of the woods? Use a handy converter: Find your local time vs. Central Time.
The session will be recorded and posted on YouTube and here on the blog sometime next week.
So far, on the cat name issue, Team Buttercup (or maybe Team Princess Buttercup) is winning in a walk…
Uh, Baha-char? Sounds familiar. Why do you ask?
Could you imagine a girls trip with Ada, Dina, Maud and Helen, to Baha-char?
Don’t forget to throw in the Drifen Liege!
+1
+1
And Donna
Mrs Marais 💪🏼;)
LOL! Love the back and forth re linguistics. *smirking*
I voted for Patience! But I like Buttercup. Would have liked the Ripper option.
Thanks for the delightful interview! The desserts, ahh, I wish I could make desserts like that! I attempted my first cherry pie ever last night and it turned out good so I am psyched for baking, but I’ll never be Orro level, not enough Patience!
On that note, have a great weekend and a great zoom Q&A!
I stan Orro!!!! hoping there will be a Maude+Arland and Sean+Dina double wedding novella some time in the future….
No no no!
Dina has to marry in Gertrude Hunt, it would be cruel to hold her wedding anywhere else.
Maude will marry in the clan stronghold. That’s so all the wedding guests can have a slice of Mukama. House Krahr will get sooo much esteem from that (not that they need it).
Well, as a Red Cleaver chef, if Maude asked Orro nicely, I am sure he would know the best way to prepare Mukama…. (Probably tastes just like chicken…)
Very good point as to locations. Still want Orro as head chef for both.
Mukama Wellington
Jerk Mukama
Mukama Carpaccio
Orro will elevate it!
All the recipes start: “First, catch a Mukama. Avoid putting too many large holes in the body as it may spoil the meat.”
These recipes may be found in the cookbook next to the recipes for roast Tyrannosaurus Rex and tiger BBQ and waterdrake sushi, which all start with a similar comment.
Thank youuuuu ! I loved it ! 😂😂😂 So fun !
Can’t wait for more 😁
Thank you for the treat the Author Lords are the best ❤️
The book was so good ! I read it three time already and the ending even more !
I was one of the lonely voters for Sherman. It reminded me of the Mr. Peabody and his boy Sherman, so it could be Mr. Sherman and his boy Elias.
Since Elias is former US Army, I was thinking M4 Sherman tank from WWII.
I voted for Sherman too but I was thinking the Tank or the General. Wonderful to have on your side but I wouldn’t want to be up against him
The Reaper of Souls is my second favorite character in the innkeeper universe (after Helen), so I had to vote for Reaper.
Buttercup.
But you really need to ask the cat. If you listen just right they will tell you their name.
At least according to Youngest Daughter they will. She reveals the name of all our cats to us and they come when she calls them so what she says is either true or they come because she always carries treats.
(As an aside, to all the people who dump their unwanted pets out near our farm, May you get a very fine hair stuck in your teeth.)
Has she ever seen “Cats” the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on the T.S.Eliot poems about Jellicle Cats? Because according to it, all cats have secret names…
This was great. I have to pull the book up and read it through.
CC, but now it’s for Cheese Cake.
OMG, I love that she asked Dina about Baha-char!
Woo hoo! Another great FrINNterview! Thank you!!
Given that the cat is female, I couldn’t vote for Sherman or Reaper but am torn between Buttercup and Tiny…
Umm… what’s this about “ They’ve already shifted gears to working on the extra material for the special editions of This Kingdom”? Extra material?? Yes please!! Only for the special edition? Oh noes!!
My question:
Different Earth, SAME Baha-char?!?!?
And the fact the cave painting clearly shows the Lees, they’re clearly opening new avenues for trade about Everywhere
George and Jack are from a different Earth too, they used the same Baha-char 🙂
“Things got a little heated in the Ft. Campbell breach. We came out barely an hour ago.”
Does this Earth have the GERTRUDE HUNT somewhere else? Dina in a different Inn?
FT CAMPBELL is in Kentucky which is NOT an hour from where the GERTRUDE HUNT is in Texas. Even with a corporate jet.
Dina during the Frinnday Interviews has always been able to dismiss violent chat guests back to their homes with a wave of her broom. So it stands to reason that she could “summon” them to Tea with equal ease.
I kinda like Pumpkin for the big orange Kitty… but alas it is not on the list.
Baha-Char for the win!
Plus can I have the coral tulle and the passion cone recipes, if they are available of course!
State Fair is coming up and I have a hot competition going with last years show winner, so I need all the ammo I can get.
Much love and thank you!
Mellow Yellow- how can that not be #1?
This is fun, thank you
Oooooh, special editions of TKWNKM?? Extra material? Please tell me more.
I will be at the Zoom, so perhaps it will come up or I will ask.
I haven’t finished Inheiritance yet, so I’ll be wary of spoilers. Congratulations on the number 1 and an excellent use of your fame to get the computer repaired!
Squeeeee!!!! Wait I am Chalant.
This can’t possibly have only ONE sequel. They’re trying to win an inter dimensional war that other civilizations couldn’t win after 1300 years. And more importantly, fall in love. And solve earth and guild politics…..
Just accept that either the sequel will be three books long (most ideal, I will pay three books worth) or you can keep us all on edge for the next several years and those of us in the USA have enough to stress about……
actually I prefer DC as in Darn Cat. one of the funniest cat books and movies. about a cat whose nightly wandering not only scores him a duck that the neighbor got while hunting but a watch that’s a clue to a kidnapping.
my favorite line from the book is “Great Ceasars Ghost…GET OFF THE CATS TAIL!
Yes!!!!
Loving “Buttercup” and “Mittens” … but I went with “Sherman”, which was the name of one of my mom’s catsi, and was just the sweetest little boy-cat …
… also looked up the name “Sherman” and “cat” and found a cute book on Amazon called “Sherman the Firehouse Cat”, …
Question: is Elias getting the names cannon to the next book in the series? And can we really trust the linguist he asked or is it gonna get out?
Congrats again on that #1!
Beautiful! And who, from Baha-char might get involved? Hmmm …
Elias will of course want Reaper (I agree Ripper cushions is far better), but the cat’s name is Buttercup. I adore the Frinnterviews – thank you. Plus, using your No. #1 Amazon author status for faster repair service is inspired. Has any repair or service person been a member of the BDH and either gushed, asked questions or for an autograph after a job?
The integumentary system & isekai… until today I had no idea what those words meant.
I love using the dictionary while enjoying your newest isekai book!
You’re #1!
I like Buttercup because it reminds me of Cuddles and her personality
If “Reaper” becomes the kitty’s name, perhaps the Author’s would consider Reaper-cushions &Ripper-cushions for future merch?
Absolutely LOVE The Inheritance, and am so very grateful for your talents.
Your hard work & love for we, the BDH, is second only to your wildly imaginative writing skills!! I INHALED this book and this new world, its characters, and the interwoven references to your other works. Keep doing what you’re doing and never be surprised by your loyal supporters again. You obviously know exactly what we want and how to provide it!! Congrats!!
Thank you for this post, I’ve missed book club. already reread the book twice now, love the inserts! barsabarsabarsa…. ZenHugs
Any chance we’ll see some of the book art as wallpapers? They’re so darn pretty!
Candice, the artist, is looking into prints and wallpapers, we’ll let you know as soon as they are up 🙂
WOW !!! Y’all are so clever…you should write books!!!! LOVED LOVED LOVED The Inheritance. You are the BEST!!
loved this!
I thought Ada destroyed the witness camera before she started the interrogation?
can’t wait for the sequel!!
My female cat name is Mimi, she ‘s fluffy with white long fur with grey-black spots but if I am honest with myself and the mice and field rats corpses and little bits of intestine found everywhere, the save of the little bird she come back with to slaughter in the WC, the lizards that she ate whole, Reaper is a so more fitting name.
A good week-end and sorry for the gore.
The webinar was wonderful! Thank you! You all write the words that make you happy and let you sleep at night. Because we, the Horde will buy all the words!
+1000!
Chaos Cat for the win!
For Ilona,
I’ve had cubital tunnel syndrome for ~20 years. I cannot place pressure on the outside of my forearm, or I compress the nerve, so I needed to change my typing setup (and I have to be very careful with wrist guards for skating as they can place too much pressure on the ulnar nerve, too). No typing unless I’m in a very “ergonomic position.” No elbow or forearm resting for me. 😤
I wear a padded elbow sleeve at night to prevent a tightly flexed elbow during sleep when my symptoms flare. I also clutch a small (~14” x 14”) pillow as an alternative, to keep the elbow at 90° or greater.
Each flare seems to take a little longer to heal than the previous … except the first one … which took forever!
I hope you find the solutions that work for you. 🤞
::hug::
I am trying to find a good sleeve. I have one, but I wake up in the middle of the night and remove it, apparently. I really hope it will heal up.
Thanks for the Frinnterview!!!! Ada is clearly still suspicious of Elias’ motivations…
Thank you very much for the fun Zoom.
Besides you both and ModR, the BDH is soooo exceptionally interesting.
While I completely understand the need to open up new fan bases for your writing. I also would like to remind you that those of us who have been following your series for years would like a resolution to the story lines. I loved Inheritance and will look forward to the sequel. I’ll definitely read Maggie but, I’m 71 years old. I would SERIUOSLY like to read the conclusion to Kate Daniels before I die. I know you have your own priorities to your writing but I also have my own, and finding out the end to the Wilmington years and Julies story etc is MINE.
Hugh 2 is mine. Really how long ? Before Julie, I want Hugh’s book, we were teased with the start of a serial, bits and pieces and still no book. Although I will happily take anything written by House Andrews, Everytime it is not Hugh, a shed a tear. but us septuagenarians have to stick together.
Will Orro share the recipe for the gourmet triple chocolate cupcakes? We had a pet iguana named Princess Buttercup. She liked to have her forehead stroked. I voted for Reaper, though, because it sounded more like what the cat will become.
As a fan of multiversal shenanigans from Moorcock onwards, I like where this is going.
Fun Inn-terview! Can anyone help a gal out? I recently reread all of Innkeeper & Hidden Legacy. I went looking for the previous interviews filling in the gaps that round out the series. My memory swears there was an interview with Augustine Montgomery. I cannot find it. Did I imagine that? I sadly fixated on finding it and lost several hours!! (My pickles could be canning by now! Hyper fixation can be a real problem!)
I’m a librarian and this is my favorite sort of “reference question.” (I also understand when a mind can fixate. So, to put you at ease. Yes, it did happen. According to fan sites, the original post occurred on Friday, November 18, 2022. However, it is no longer available on Ilona Andrew’s blog. Sorry. Good news: If you need an Augustine fix (not innkeeper related), you can still find “Corporate Agility”on the blog from November 15, 2023. It’s a tiny snippet that relates to Augustine, our favorite man of mystery, from Hidden Legacy novels. Hope this helps!
You can check the Free Fiction page for the available snippets https://ilona-andrews.com/free-fiction/#hiddenlegacy
If It’s not there, it has been archived and not available at the moment; but may be offered again at a later date 🙂
Thanks, no. It’s gone. I appreciate Librarian Jerrica’s reassurance I didn’t imagine it! I started with free fiction and then searched under every tag I could think of!
Thank you both for responding?
Okay, I don’t see an “other” option, but as a multigenerational Chicagoan (where Elias’s memories of his family are from, and a nice tie back to his wife), I’d like to recommend BILLY from the Billy Goat Tavern/Billy Goat Curse.
First, the billy goat from which the name comes from is found because he falls off a truck and wanders in to the tavern. Much like kitty was found by the team and joined their guild.
Second, it was said “the goat loved to drink” and that’s exactly what Elias offers kitty, a drink.
Third, read up on the Billy Goat Curse. I could see the Billy Cat/Kitty Curse having an equally fun superstition for CC.
lol. Love Frinndays! Ada is awesome. Book 2 whenever is going to be fun!
Until then… P*tience!
Okay but Mellow Yellow tho???
They already have one cat named Mellow and the other big cat can be Yellow haha!
Also a nod to Caldenia’s love for Melo Yelo?
I can see this is likely a lost cause haha
Okay, I know Baha-char is an intergalactic marketplace, but what IS it? Is it a planet? How come all the inns portal first to there? Has it been explained in the innkeeper books so far?
It hasn’t been explained (yet) why the first door an inn forms is to Baha-Char. I believe it’s a moon around a giant broken planet (Clean Sweep, 74% in when Dina takes Sean there).
Thank you for the Zoom!!!!
I loved all the information and the fun discussion! But what I need right now is a tutorial on Mod R’s eye makeup! It was art!
