For those of you who enjoyed Jessie’s free online serial, her book is out today.
A space princess on the run and a notorious outlaw soldier become unlikely allies in this imaginative, sexy space opera adventure—the first in an exciting science fiction trilogy.
In the far distant future, the universe is officially ruled by the Royal Consortium, but the High Councillors, the heads of the three High Houses, wield the true power. As the fifth of six children, Ada von Hasenberg has no authority; her only value to her High House is as a pawn in a political marriage. When her father arranges for her to wed a noble from House Rockhurst, a man she neither wants nor loves, Ada seizes control of her own destiny. The spirited princess flees before the betrothal ceremony and disappears among the stars.
Ada eluded her father’s forces for two years, but now her luck has run out. To ensure she cannot escape again, the fiery princess is thrown into a prison cell with Marcus Loch. Known as the Devil of Fornax Zero, Loch is rumored to have killed his entire chain of command during the Fornax Rebellion, and the Consortium wants his head.
When the ship returning them to Earth is attacked by a battle cruiser from rival House Rockhurst, Ada realizes that if her jilted fiancé captures her, she’ll become a political prisoner and a liability to her House. Her only hope is to strike a deal with the dangerous fugitive: a fortune if he helps her escape.
But when you make a deal with an irresistibly attractive Devil, you may lose more than you bargained for . . .

I loved the sample so much, I immediately purchased the book (now being read surreptitiously at work when I have free moments). Also requested that my library buy it bc I think many others would enjoy it too!. Happy book birthday Jessie ?

I am absolutely exhausted today because I stayed up to read it. Fun and exciting and excellent chemistry.
I have some predictions for next book, but I won’t spoil anything here.
FBR says
I’ve read it (thank you HarperCollins for the ARC) and it was wonderful. I really enjoyed it. Thank you, Jessie! And thank you Ilona for originally letting us know about her. 🙂

It downloaded this morning. It’s always such a lovely surprise when you forgot you pre-ordered a book and there it is!

I asked my library to purchase it a couple of days ago.

Saw that come in at midnight last night, but I’m in the middle of another book. Haven’t decided if I’ll read this one first or the next JD Robb book (came out the same day).
Happy BB from the BDH.
Rena says
I stayed up to read the new J.D. Robb one last night. I will say that I was a bit disappointed in it, which is unheard of for me with one of Nora Roberts books.
Don’t get me wrong, it is a good book. Just not quite up to her normal standard of excellence IMO.
Lisa Simpson says
I’ve been wondering about her last 3 to 4 books. Eve doesn’t “feel” the same. There used to be a cute/quirky inner dialogue from Eve as she processed events in her own way. Now, ever since the book where the victim was taken out in a movie theater while watching a classic film (don’t remember exactly the title), it seems like the books are lacking the original charm. Feels like the author’s voice has changed a bit.
Roberta says
Brilliant book, congratulations Jessie. I stayed up last night and read it, lots of yawning going on this morning. Looking forward to reading Bianca and Ian’s story next!
Amanda P says
Thanks for the Rec.
I have bought the audio book and I am looking forward to listening to it while walking the dogs

I read the book today while at work (not much going on for work). It was great! I really liked that Jessie mentioned Ilona and Gordon in the Acknowledgement section. Now for Bianca’s and Ian’s book…oh boy! Reading JD Robb’s new book.
I also bought the Queen’s Gambit. That one was great too. 😀
Happy book birthday!

I pre-ordered this when you first mentioned the author on your blog (not to create any pressure, but you have excellent taste – as shown through your books, duh, and friendship with Jeaniene Frost). I’m thoroughly looking forward to reading this on my commute in the morning.
Denisetwin says
Just received it in the mail today, cannot wait to read!!

As usual, I love discovering new (to me) writers — thanks for the rec! This will help tide me over to Faith Hunter’s next book, which isn’t hitting the shelves until the 26th.
Rena says
I can’t wait for that one either. I am glad I check out this blog so much. Y’all have suggested several new authors for me that I have loved. Like Faith Hunter, Patricia Briggs and Ann Bishop.

Dear Ilona Andrews,
I’m blaming you for my inability to put this book down and get absolutely no work done today. I am also thanking you for opening my eyes to this amazing book that I could not put down, which now has made me have to do a days worth of work in 2 hours.
Thank you,
EasilyDistractedWorkerBee

Thanks for letting us know about Jessie, Ilona and Gordon!! Looking forward to reading her new book!!!

This was good. Excellent sci-fi romance where the characters aren’t all orphans. They have backstories and people they love and the supporting characters are 75% of the draw. Devoured it. Can’t wait for more.
Layla says
Desperately needed a new book to read and this is now it, thank you so much. Someone recommended a book to me, and for some reason I didn’t read the description before starting to read the sample. Welp, the heroine is a pirate and speaks like a member of Jack Sparrow’s crew (not Jack himself, but his uneducated and unwitty crew). Worse she THINKS like that as well (inner monologue). And she inexplicably has 6 fathers, that are member of the pirate crew as well. Okay, to be fair, I had to stop reading on page 6 so perhaps the father thing is explained somewhere down the line. But, and I can’t believe I have to say this, but Disney pirate is not an accent you want your heroine speaking. Let alone her ridiculous number of fathers: one of whom is referred to as “landlubber” who speaks “fancy-like.” And no, I didn’t make that up. I don’t have that good an imagination.
Polaris Rising here I come. 🙂 I love it when you recommend books.

I’ve enjoyed your recommendations such as Tsumiko and the Enslaved Fox so I will check out this title as well.

I have really enjoyed following Jessie Mihalik. I read her online serial The Queen’s Gambit, which was awesome and fun. Her new serial, The Queen’s Advantage, is posting now and is definitely worth checking out. Polaris Rising raises the bar even higher – it was a real page turner for me!
Thanks for the recommendation, author-lords!
