Is the new thing a holiday serial?
Yes.
How long?
Not very long. Probably short story range.
Every Friday?
Every Friday.
Can we get it in audio/when will it be published/why is it not Innkeeper…
Here is tea and cookies. Please have some. I can’t have cookies because I have to watch my blood sugar so you can have mine.
But!

It has been a packed year for us on the professional front. We wrote many things. Some of them familiar, like Wilmington adventures. Some of them odd and off-brand, like Maggie. Dear BDH, we couldn’t have done it without your support. Your enthusiasm, your comments, and your humanity allowed us the luxury to work at our own pace on the projects of our choosing without the oversight of a publisher or fear that we won’t succeed.
Thank you so much for making our year wonderful. You are the best!
Have a Merry Holiday and Happy New Year, HA! Thank you for continuing to share your gift with us.
Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. I will take anything you give us with NO COMPLAINTS. May 2024 be Happy and fruitful.

I love it all. I’ll take anything I can get, and then I’ll go back and reread the previous works 😁
Here’s to a good end of 2023 and a good beginning of 2024!! 🎉🎉
+1! 🤗
In the words of kiddo’s preschool teacher: “You get what you get and you don’t throw a fit.” A good motto to live by. 😁
+1000 This is me. Everyone have a great holiday season!

Merry Christmas! Thank you for all your hard work.
WooHoo! Another serial!
Merry Christmas from rainy Oregon. It’s pouring and the wind is blowing here on the coast in Coos Bay. I love your style of writing and will happily wait until you feel like writing whatever you desire. Take a break and enjoy yourselves. 🙂
Please rest and enjoy and recuperate. We send virtual hugs!
❤️ it’s been a tough year in that everything’s ok kind of way. thanks for giving me a place to feel connected.

Hurray for holiday serial! Thank you!
YOU are the best! Thank you so much for all the adventure, angst, humor, suspense, aggravation, elation, love, hate, and just sheer joy that your books have brought into our lives. Have a Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and a wonderful Holiday Season!
Hope you both get the rest you deserve.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.
Best wishes for 2024!
Happy Holidays from our vacation to visit my family! My daughter spent the night puking, but this news put a smile on my face. The stomach bug will end, but we can read your new serial FOREVER! (Thank goodness.) Here’s to a happy and healthy new year! The food may not be as decadent, but I hope you get joy in spades.
Thank you for the tea and cookies.
Thank you so much for the tea and cookies and story. I am taking a needed break from an extraordinarily frustrating workday capping a frustrating week. All three hit the spot.
You both are so awesome! All the sharing of your lives: the troubles with doctors, the kitties and doggos, the grown up kid stories and your personal dealings with skunks and other wildlife. And, you find the time to satisfy our thirst for stories and more stories. The freebies! Thanks so much and Merry Christmas!
Thank you!
I will look forward to Fridays.
I have a house full of children and grandchildren right now. My heart is happy and my cookie plates are getting depleted more rapidly than I expected. I need to make some more.
But first I need to get the breakfast donuts cut.
Have a wonderful Christmas!
Thank you for doing what you love and adding joy to our lives! Very best wishes for a wonderful holiday season.
I shall enjoy your holiday offering. Since I am alone in the office today, I am going to read it write now. With tea. (No cookies for me either)
What a wonderful lovely happy perfect present!! HA, you are amazing and the BDH is sooo blessed to have you!
Thank you for all of your hard work, creativity, and love!
Now I’m gonna go read!! Weeeeeeee!!
Nope, thank you! It’s been so much fun reading your work and this blog! And being part of the BDH is a high point in my life. Wondrous holiday wishes to all!
Happy Holidays to you and your family and the four-legged furballs!! Thank you for this nifty surprise. Its always nice to have something to look forward to as we move into the new year and this is an excellent treat.
Merry Christmas!!
Thank you for stories! I can’t give you actual cookies, but here’s my favorite cupcake recipe.
Chocolate Keto Cupcakes
2.5 cups (300g) blanched superfine almond flour
7 tbsp (52g) cocoa powder
2 tsp baking powder
90g butter or Miyoko’s buttery spread (softened)
2/3 cup xylitol (140g)
4 large Eggs
1/2+ cup unsweetened almond milk
2 tsp vanilla extract
Mini or regular keto chocolate chips–Lilly’s is a great brand. Follow your heart for amounts. Technically optional.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (176 degrees C). Line 16 cups in a muffin tin with paper liners. Beat butter and sweetener together until fluffy. Mix dry ingredients and then beat into butter mixture. Beat in eggs, almond milk, and vanilla extract. Add chocolate chips if you’re not a monster. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cupcake comes out clean. Allow muffins to cool completely, then frost with keto frosting.
Thank you so much for this gift! 😀
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank you for all of your gifts and writing! Your work is important, and we really appreciate it.
I was dealing with bereavement these past couple weeks, and there were times I took refuge in your writing. For comfort. For a respite.
Just to settle myself, before diving back into the fray.
I had a longer note to send, but I did not want to post in public, and was note sure where to email.
Key point: Thank you for all you do. Your work is meaningful. It is art, and it is comfort. We cherish it.
Xylitol isn’t safe for dogs! Erythritol is fine though. Yes, I know chocolate is bad for them as well but xylitol is much worse. Besides dogs can be tricky, so best not to have it around.
Nice Gift! Thank you, Becky
wohoo…the best Christmas present ever.
thank you for all the work ypu have been doing and happy holidays
Thank you! I am so happy. ^^
Happy Holidays for you and your loved ones. 🙂
Merry Christmas to you & the whole family.
Anything Roman, it doesn’t matter how long or short, will be received and enjoyed with great enthusiasm.
Thank for a great year of reading & looking forward to Maggie and more.
Merry Christmas! Thank you for being there for us.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to both of you and your family. Thank you for bringing joy, laughter, tears, wonderment and all the feels to your readers in every little thing that you write. I hope that you have a relaxing and happy holidays despite the diet.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and thank you also to Mod R for all the hard work that she puts into her job helping you to manage the incorrigible BDH!
Thank you thank you thank you and have a happy Christmas 😍 just working my way through every book you have written and it is bringing me such joy after a horrible year.
Thank you from Germany, where we have heavy rains and strong winds. Really unpleasant, but the dog hast to be walked… and my Kid 1 is sick, my nephew who is living with my 91 year old Mom came down with covid this week, so this distraction ist truly appriciated.
Love you guys and your beautiful stories – I don’t care if it’s Kate’s world, innkeeper or something new (looking forward to that!)
Frohe Weihnachten!
Cookies! Omnomnom 😊
WE LOVE YOU RIGHT BACK!
Thank you for your wonderful writing and blog posts. You have been an oasis for all of us when life gets too much.
Thank you for the Roman present. However long or short the Friday reading is, it will be cherished.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and happy whatever holidays the Horde celebrates this time of year. 🎄🎁🎆
May 2024 be a lot better than this year
Thank you!
Merriest of Christmas greeting to you and your family, from over the Pond in the UK. Devoted reader of everything.
Diagnosed with type 2 diabetes last year. Found this a useful sugar substitute for cooking and baking- looks like sugar:
NKD Living Stevia & Erythritol (1:1) it has no calories. Im not linked to the company in any way. Made a lovely steamed sponge with blueberries using it.
Found various supplements that helped control/lower the sugar, and blood pressure, so for a while went back to being pre-diabetic. Did research via AI asking for ones where there were research papers or trials looking at results, and which wouldnt clash with prescribed medication from my GP.
Slipped back, because a) I LOVE rice (Caribbean background)
b) cant get it together to exercise regularly!
Thank you for the tip! 🙂
We love you two and want you around for a long, loooong time. Thank you for all the books, snippets and blog posts. You make our lives happier with you wonderful writing. Here’s to a happy and healthy 2024!
Thank you for all your hard work. I like many others love everything you write, so sit back enjoy Christmas and The New Year.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
I WISH YOU AND YOURS ALL THE BEST IN 2024
thank you!!! much love <3
Thank you for all that you guys give to us!
Thank you Gordon and Ilona for wonderful stories and this blog!! You are so generous, and you truly enrich our lives.
Once you get your blood sugar under control with meds, you can have cookies again. #tenplusyearsasatype2speaking
That’s the plan. Instead of the golden carrot that we strive to in the future, I will be working to reach the golden cookie. 🙂 Actually, cookies are not my favorite, believe it or not. But I do love watching movies with popcorn, so that will be my snack when I get to the right numbers.
Instead of the golden cookie, you will be working to reach the golden popcorn. 🙂
Thank you and Merry Christmas
Thank you. Best wishes for a good Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
Thank you both for your wonderful books! I am so glad I somehow stumbled onto the Innkeeper serial of Clean Sweep which led me to all the rest of your work. These days your books are my absolute comfort reads – and I’m going through some health issues these days and just finished a re-read of Hidden Legacy (again).
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the rest of the BDH! 🎄🎅
thanks for the cookies 💜. and all the delicious literary treats this year. y’all have kept me sane through the loss of my job and prepping the holidays on a much reduced budget. I hope you feel all the love we digitally send your way this year!
Loved the dodge of that last question. lol. Thank you for the holiday serial. I’m looking forward to it.
You are the best- thank you for everything you do! I am eagerly ( and greedily) awaiting anything and everything you write!
Have a wonderful holiday and a happy new year!
Thank you, House Andrews, for making the world a better place.
I have some chronic health issues that I am dealing with, and I’m supposed to keep my feet elevated as much as I can. I have spend thousands of hours (quite literally) with your books playing in audio format as I do other things (work, craft, drive, build in Sims 3) and they keep me company when I am taking some feet-up time. I’m doing a complete Kate reread as we speak and I love those books at least as much now as when I first read them.
God bless and here’s hoping you and yours have a very Merry Christmas!
Roman, Innkeeper, Maggie… even nothing at all. I will gladly accept whatever publish and but I’d rather you keep yourself safe and happy and healthy than have more books. Wishing you light in the dark, warmth in the cold, and love throughout the year.
Thank you, and Happy Holidays!
thank you for this lovely gift.
as some ppl have already mentioned – to help my blood sugars I use monkfruit sugar (there is no after taste experienced with stevia – my opinion). very dangerous for pets is the only word of warning…be cautious of food dropped. am in love w anything from G Hughes – sugar free bbq sauces and dips – again monk sugar be careful with the fur babies. when baking it is one for one.
happy holidays to you and yours and to all the BDH. be safe and enjoy the time with family and found family.
Happy Everything to House Andrews, House Mod-R, and the BDH!
I will gladly take care of your cookies for you as I read the delicious new serial!
LOVE it!
Happy and safe holidays, HA, ModR, and my fellow BDH.
We love you guys too. Happy Holidays.
Wishing you Virtual delicious cookies and a restful Holiday.
is there a link for a story or will that be coming later?
I feel so selfish asking..
Have a very merry Christmas and restful holidays.
icymi:
the blog post preceding this one is this week’s chapter of the new Roman short.
hope this helps.
sorry if i misunderstood your question.
thank you very very much. I felt so left out. I really appreciate you responding. I missed the preceding post completely.
have a very merry Christmas
YAY!!! I finally got to read it. I am always grateful to get these snippets. they really brighten my day.
I completely feel you – I just got diagnosed with diabetes (recently turned 47), too. I have had a rampant love affair with sugar my entire life. This diagnosis was very depressing news. Sticking my finger multiple times a day (especially when the initial poke doesn’t provide enough blood! Tip – the sides of your fingers bleed more/better. Who’d have thunk that??) is dreadful, I swear I have PTSD and have to force myself not to flinch and be a big girl to use the Fingertip Torture Devise. 😛
I tried both Truvia and Monks Fruit. My personal preference is Monks Fruit (MF, bwahahaha) – it doesn’t have any odd aftertaste.
I’ve substituted MF for sugar with varying success in some of my favorite recipes. Example – used it in a cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving. It was initially fine but after storing it in the fridge, it turned crystalline/crunchy. Odd, but still tasted good (sweeeet!).
I’m on metformin and losartan, too.
I use a smart scale that has bluetooth so I can reliably track my weight/other stats. The nice thing about the app that goes with it is that it has a food tracker, amongst other features. So I am able to see what is causing the spikes in my sugar.
I also do my very best to walk first thing in the morning for at least a half hour, if not longer. I have a desk job, so walking, even at a moderate pace, is really important to me/my health.
The good news is that I’ve lost 13 pounds in 3 months from cutting my sugar intake and calorie counting.
The better news is that while I have to really watch how much I eat, I can still have sugar – everything in moderation, right?
The best news is that due to all of these changes, I only have to use the Finger Torture Device once in the morning – my doc told me that the fasting blood sugar level was the most important one.
I am looking forward to getting my blood work done at the end of this month and seeing my AC1 go down drastically. It was almost 10 back in September. Yikes! My doc is completely ok with lessening the amount of medicine I’m on, until I can hopefully get my AC1 under control and am no longer diabetic.
I wish you the best of luck in getting your blood sugar under control and hope that knowing others are in the same situation helps you a bit.
Thank you for all the posts you all make on the Blog – it adds so much joy to so many!
Wishing you and yours (and all the rest of the BDH!) a warm and joyful holiday season! 🙂
Talk to your doctor about a continuous glucose monitor such as Dexcom or Free Style Libre. No finger sticks. You will have better blood sugar info throughout the day allowing you to really get a grasp on how you are doing and what affects it. The devices will track your sugar levels over time and you can relate the average to your A1c. As the average goes down so does the A1c.
Best of luck and stay positive. I know it is hard.
Was just going to suggest this. It has helped my daughter tremendously.
Just a discovery I made after a year of finger stabbing:
The #1 setting (shallowest) actually produces more blood, more reliably, for me than the #3 setting the medical instructors started me on. Also, was far less painful.
Perhaps try it?
Saved me immeasurable amounts of pain and hassle. Now been stabbing @ the #1 setting for years.
Thank You!!!
No, YOU are the best! Thank you for the many, many, many gifts you give the BDH! 🥰💕💕
Here’s wishing you, Mod R, and all of the BDH a very peaceful and happy holiday season and new year!
I LOVE IT ❤️ 😍 💖
Imagine me squealing like a small toddler because CHRISTMAS IS HERE!
Yep, that’s me with the news of serial.
Thank you, House Andrews, Creators of Awesome. Thank you, ModR, Herder of the Horde.
Thank you for continuing to share your stories. May you and your family have the safest, healthiest, and Merriest Christmas! Looking forward to a 2024 filled with your stories — but no pressure!
Thank you and Happy Holidays to you and yours!!
Happy Holidays to House Andrews! So grateful for your work and all you choose to share. Love to you.
Thank you for all, your books are my first choice for a comforting and de-stress reading.
Courage with the diet, it’s worth it, because a day without hypoglycemia is a well-feeling, energy full day.
I’m now addicted to 98% chocolate – and making my own whole wheat bread.
Happy Christmas and good holidays.
Here is a recipe that I use to get some sweetness but have plenty of protein to offset the carbs…it’s called Breadless French Toast.
Three eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon sugar
Small non-stick skillet with a lid
Oil or butter
Beat the eggs and flour together. Add everything else and combine. Oil the skillet including the sides, pour in the mixture, cook covered on medium heat for 10 minutes. You should be able to invert it onto a plate with no problem.
A very Merry Christmas to the author lords of House Andrews. Thank you for the WORDS so many WORDS and I don’t have enough words of my own to convey how blessed I have felt by your amazing talent. Merry Christmas to my fellow Book Devouring Horde – thank you for the hysterical and uplifting comments throughout the year!! Hope everyone has a Happy and Peace Filled New Year.
LOVE YOU TOO!
On a less happy note, I’ve seen lots of comments about managing diabetes and I just want to say to everybody that its really hard but keep going because the consequences are catastrophic! I am a hospital based physical therapist specializing in geriatrics and diabetes affects every body system. Once damage is done it can be irreversible and cumulative so keep exercising at least a little, eating healthy, please take your meds as prescribed and keep up with doctor visits! I won’t go into details about what can happen because lovely holiday season but it’s really bad, one of the worst diseases out there but really subtle in the beginning so many people don’t take it seriously.
I’m so happy you are being proactive Ilona (and BDH) because I want you to stay happy and healthy for a long time. And, thank you for sharing your story because maybe someone else can be saved in the future. Sorry for getting on my soapbox, I couldn’t help myself because preachy healthcare professional here but Love you all.
You aren’t preachy, you are caring!
Merry Christmas/Happy holidays and a wonderful new year to all at House Andrews. You make our lives better and we thank you. Mod R, too you do a marvellous job!
I love the idea of a Christmas/Holiday serial 💖 Has a very Dickens feel to it.
Thanks so much!
I hope you and your family have a wonderful holiday and I’m wishing a healthy and happy 2024 to us all!
Merry Christmas! Happy Hanukkah! Seasons Greetings! Happy Kwanza! Not sure all the greetings out there or the appropriate verbiage, but blessings and good things to all in their various faiths and cultures. To the delightsome duo who grace us with their talents; thank you for this winter gift of a story! I am stressed and lots going on, your chapter 1 gave me a smile and a laugh and a brief breath. Truly grateful. Thank you for sharing it🎄🩷
Enjoy the holidays and take a break!
I’m going to attempt to put together my Christmas/birthday/anniversary gift with help from the family.
Happy happy holidays Gordon & Ilona! Your writing brings me so much joy. It’s a true gift, and I look forward to reading and rereading for many years to come. Hope you have a very restful Christmas and a happy new year!
Thank you for the cookies and tea. Also, thank you for giving us Roman. I am looking forward to whatever he is up to. Enjoy your respite and have a wonderful holiday. Take care of yourselves – always.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I can’t tell you how much you brighten my life xoxo
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I hope you get some well needed rest.
I loved the snippet. I’ll reread it later when my tiny monsters aren’t destroying the house. (ahem I mean my children lol)
Thank you! Best present ever
Love your worlds so much!
Your writing has kept me company thru so many situations where I needed just a bit of humor or light or to vicariously cause serious damage to someone/thing….
Very proud to fly my BDH flag – while drinking black coffee from my 20 oz “Here kitty” mug. There might be a cookie involved, too.
Good luck with the blood sugar thing. It can be a tricksy thing and I wish you the best and a normal A1C.
Savory snack: take a firmly packed teaspoon of Parmesan cheese. Place it on a paper plate or parchment. Repeat until the plate is full. Microwave the cheese dots for a few seconds. Store in an air tight container. Salty, flavorable and NO carbs. The cheese can be used as is or flavored with your favorite spice (cayenne, curry, chili, etc.)
Thank you for the Roman story. What a wonderful Christmas gift. May your holiday season be all you could wish.
And you can do the same with other hard, low water content cheeses too for even more variety!
Thank you! I can relate to the pre diabetes ordeal. Been down that road, did the thing but wow, the road was something else!
Merry Christmas 🎄 I hope you have a wonderful and well rested holiday.
The best gift ever!!!! Thank you and Happy Holidays.
You are the best. It is such a thoughtful gift to your readers, thank you very much.
To your readers or for your readers ? Still progress to make on the english front…
Either works, I think I’d probably go for “for”, but “to” isn’t wrong.
Thank you !!
Thank you for your gift of stories!
Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year.
Thank you for *the gift of your stories
(not just this one!)
Merry Christmas to House Andrews and many thanks for your stories!
They are something to look forward to in a dark and depressing world.
Thank you for the delightful story!
Being diabetic does not mean NO sugar, it means moderation in all things. You just have to pick what you want in moderate quantities, and sweets only occasionally in small quantities. So holiday dinners I only have small servings (or none at all) of carbs ie stuffing or potatoes. I usually skip the pie, I would rather have the yummy turkey with cranberry relish.
I hate artificial sweeteners, they have an aftertaste I can’t stand. But recently a friend turned me on to Monk fruit sweetener. No aftertaste. VERY expensive but I found it on Amazon for $8.99/1 lb. Now I sweeten my tea with no guilt!
So, welcome to our flock with diabetes. It’s a lifestyle change, but it’s doable!
Have a Merry Holiday and thank you for everything!
I am sorry to bother you, but I have been away from the blog recently due to having two jobs. It is finally the holidays and I am trying to catch up. I cannot find the release date of Maggie. Is there a date, or is it still in progress ? I do not remember the title.
We are not sure what we are doing with it. It’s going through beta reads right now and some people love it and others hate it. We will see what happens after New Year. I will keep you posted.
Thank you very much for your reply. All I can say is that every snippet that I read were absolutely amazing. And so intriguing. I personally cannot wait to read more.
From our household to yours … hope you all have much love, fun & good cheer during this Christmas season.
Thank you for the extra Friday serial …. at the moment, I’m rereading x6 all your series again.
Regards from Oz ….
Thank you for the wonderful chapter. I hope you and all your family and friends have a merry Christmas and happy new year in joy, and peace.
Thank you! Have a great holiday season.
Wishing for you~all everything you would wish for yourselves plus heaps more .
Sending the highest and bestest thoughts for your good health and continued creative writting….my life wouldn’t be the same without your writting talents..truly.
Blessings in the next year and the next and continuing.
Thank you. Hugs.
DK
Merry Christmas!!!
I just decided to take a little break from work and look what I found! A beautiful House Andrews gift. 😁
Thank you! Wow!
Happy Happy Holidays! You ALWAYS make my day brighter! I continue to LOVE all you write. Thanks so very much.
Wow – Roman! Wahoo!
Best wishes of happiness, health and prosperous fun throughout the New Year!
Louis
Meri Kirihimete!!
No, thank YOU! Have a wonderful holiday!
Happy Holidays to House Andrews! I asked for one thing this year, so under my tree is a ticket to Coastal Magic Con. Yes, I will see you in February!
Wheee!
Thank you. I read a lot of books, try a lot of authors.
I generally try at least 2 books by any author, as most do get better at writing.
There are a lot that I just won’t try again.
Through it all, I treasure what you write, what you do, and the generous style you do it all with.
Personally, I’m happy to read anything you chose to share with us. Thank you.
Thank you for the hours of pleasure your books have given me, may your holiday be filled with laughter and family.
Thank you! You guys are amazing. Please take time to take of yourselves. Wishing you both the merriest of Christmas and a great New Year!
Such a lovely gift! Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Here’s wishing you and your family a very merry Christmas and a joyous NewYear.
Awww! Thanks for not finding us a bunch of annoying little nags. Best wishes for a smooth and peaceful new year.
Here’s wishing you and everyone here a very Happy Christmas, and brilliant New Year. Your writing has helped me through some very difficult times. The wonderful and kind BDH have lent me smiles and warmth when many things were so very cold. So thank you all.
Merry Christmas 🎄
😉 you are the best and we love you. I’ve been allergic to cane sugar for years. Might I recommend monkfruit as a substitute in your cookies 🥳. I love agave & maple syrup as well, but those don’t help with blood sugar levels. Stevia has a solid place, but with its slight (or some friends would claim major!) aftertaste, it can sometimes get old. I’m thrilled for you that (as far as you’ve shared on the blog) you don’t have to avoid gluten, so the texture of said cookies can still be pretty normal 😉 alas, I go get my crumbly cookies ready!
Thank you! Such a fun story-can’t wait to see where it goes!Merry Christmas!🎄🍷
Happy Holidays. Thank you so much for the Roman story and for all of the stories you’ve written over the years. They’ve been a source of joy and comfort. Best wishes for health and peace in the new year
Thank you! (For the cookies and serial!)
Merry Christmas!! Hope you have a very fun filled one!!
We will take whatever you want to write about!!
Thank you so much for the Roman holiday goodies and everything you do for us! Merry Christmas and a very happy new year!
Thanks for the Roman serial. 😊Looking forward to next Friday.
Joyeux Noel! 🎄🎅
Take care of yourself but still enjoy the holidays with family and friends.
Happy Holidays House Andrews, ModR & BDH.
wait, wait, I have more…oh a cookie? yum yum. hey, these are diversionary tac….oh, happy holiday wishes to you and the family too.
Honestly, I will re-read all the stories and wait for the new stories forever. Please take care of your physical and mental health so you can continue to tease and appease the BDH. See you in the new year!
See now I’ve just finished sweep of the heart..I’ve made it through the entire catalog of house andrews since Dec1…Roman serial tomorrow can not come soon enough!!! Lol but I hope everyone had a good holiday week I’ve been on geriatric puppy watch again dreading the words to say “it’s time” and take my furbaby for his last ride to the vet his sister went in Oct and he went downhill from then so he’s been my bed bound and book reading snuggle buddy for past few weeks. It’s not fair they don’t get to live as long as us. Kids are devastated so am I it’s been a gloomy week here for sure. Plus newish kitten is lethargic as of yesterday too so praying it was stress from Xmas guests only… hope new year brings light and joy to all of us. Xoxo BDH MOD R and HA.
Thank you for the wonderful present! Have a fantastic Christmas and New Year!
You are loved and valued no matter what you write 🙂
Thank you! I hope you and Gordon are both able to get on top of your respective health problems without too much pain, and that you have a lovely Christmas with all the family!
Thank you, and the merriest of Christmases and happiest of New Years’ to you and yours. So many things in my life are better this Christmas than they have been in a long time, and I’ve been reminding myself to be grateful. Somehow, randomly finding this on Bluesky was just the right thing, and my cup is overflowing. Again, thank you!
Oh more Roman. What a kind thing for you two to do. Merry Christmas and
may everything bring you joy and chuckles.
Thank you for a new serial. Great start to what I am sure will be a fun story. I am a type 1 diabetic who uses both a Dexcom g6 and an Omnipod 5. The g6 really helped with my sugar control because it helps track your body’s reaction to various foods. With this information, you identify foods you need to limit or avoid all together. If your insurance wont pay for the g6, check out a company called Levels. Both my husband and my daughter use the g6 as they are pre-diabetic. Good luck!
Thank you for the treats! So happy that feeding the BDH is working out so well on all fronts, especially creatively, that you even have the time and energy to share Roman’s tale with us 🤗
PS This is my favourite keto cookbook writer. She also has a fantastic website chock-full of delicious recipes, including Christmas cookies.
https://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/
Y’all (HA, ModR, the BDHin its entirety) just rock, and may you have a lovely festive season!
We love you!!!!! <3
Merry Christmas, Thank you for the story! Sympathize with losing weight, my hubby and I are both trying to lose too, trying Weight Watchers, works pretty good, slow but steady. We really ate too much of the wrong foods 🙂
I’m a new follower. Just yesterday I wrote a suggestion that I wanted a happy ending with a mate for Roman. Just read the story about Roman and the Christmas tree that his “pets?” are creating for him. Excellent. Do I understand that the next portion of the story will be next Friday?
What is BDH? Hope I got those initials right?
Welcome to the Horde. BDH stands for Book Devouring Horde, which is what our readers choose to call themselves. HA stands for House Andrews, which a nickname for Gordon and I because it’s shorter to type.
Yes the story continues next Friday.
I deeply appreciate your work and I am ever so grateful for this gift.
All the best Ilona and Gordon🥂
Happy holiday from Scotland!^^
May you and your family be as blessed as you have blessed us with your talent!
Thank you for the many hours of quality storytelling you’ve given us throughout the years.
Keep writing and I’ll keep reading.
This past year has been a lot. One family wedding not invited to, then a cousin invited us to a “long and unique ceremony” in vampire font and the flower is dripping blood and it starts off with: “T’il Dearh…” all in all it’s been my own 3 weddings and a funeral … getting to bed to settle in with your books and the blog has been a saving Grace in so many ways! Thank you 😊 enjoy a restful and happy in between time…
Thanks so much! Hope you and your family have the best Christmas and a very happy New Year. I’m looking forward to reading anything you put out.
Thank you for this short story. I am already treasuring it and waiting to see how it ends.
I love the descriptions of the spirit/creatures!
Happy Holidays
Merry Christmas, HA! Thanks for the joy you’ve brought us this year and hugs for all the challenges you’ve had.
As I’ve said before, if you two write it, I’ll buy it and read it. However, I’m not above enjoying the freebies 🤭
Happy happy joy joy!
And thank you!
thank you for the story short or long it is much appreciated
Merry Christmas and happy new year
ps. you guys are great authors.
Thank you for the wonderful entertainment you’ve provided me this past year, and many years before that. You’re that rare author, the one who can write their grocery list and make it compelling and readable. I seriously like every single thing you’ve written. So, thank you. Happy holidays.
Looking forward to hearing more about Roman’s adventures.
Having purchased all the graphic audios to date made me need to continue on and I just finished rereading – so Roman’s tidbit is especially timely.
Speaking of which, as a Julie/Derek fan, their adventure in getting the anchor was pretty much was only 2 paragraphs in Magic Triumphs.
Not to be ungrateful (as happy for any stories at all) but – since it’s my birthday… it can’t hurt to make a wish, right? – was there ever (or could there be at some point in the future…) a little extract about their adventure in securing the anchor from Neig’s realm, even potentially as a throwback in the new series? Just throwing it out there into the universe. Nothing ventured, nothing gained as they say! 😬
Thank you for all the wonderful stories that you’ve written! I would like to offer some encouragement on the blood sugar front. I found a doc about 25 years ago who told me that diabetes was reversible. I cut all the simple carbs out of my diet, including grains. And it took years, but it worked. My blood sugar is stable now, and my A1C is normal. I hope you also find such healing.
Happy Holidays and thank you so much for the early Christmas present!!! I absolutely love this and can’t wait for more!!
I have a friend very interested but they haven’t read anything post magic Triumphs. I’m not sure where in the KD timeline this sits. Do you know if there will eventually be spoilers to events from Magic Tides, Claims, or Blood Heir? Thank you again so much for all you do!!!
Merry Christmas and thank you for the wonderful Roman Holiday!
Thank you so much for everything.
I love and appreciate your generosity, way being with us, your blog, your stories and and and … as said everything.
Switching to my native language as it is my heart language;

Squee!! Roman!!! Thank you for the yummy Christmas present!
Yay! As the cookies are imaginary, I have decided they are gluten free and consumed them with my story, nom, nom, nom. What a lovely treat, thank you, I am going to be ever so good and pati*nt until next Friday because Roman 😍 Happy Christmas!
You’re giving us a Roman story. Even those of us who don’t obsess over him like the guy and wish him well. Loved the first chapter – I will possess my soul in patience till next Friday.
THANK YOU!!!!!

Love Roman!!
Best holiday gift! Thank you!!
Have a safe, happy, and relaxing holiday break. ❤️
PS Rereading Hidden Legacy books for the…4th time. Still enjoy every word in all of your books, no matter how many times I read them!
Thank you, you guys are the absolute best! Have a happy Christmas and may the new year bring you and your family good health, good luck, and good fortune.
You guys are the best!
Thank you so much for everything you write, post and share with your loyal BDH.
Merry Christmas and wishing you all a wonderful, magical, sugar controlled New Year.
Season’s Greetings and I can’t believe it’s Christmas Eve! Thank you so much for a bit of your excellent writing to look forward to every Friday. The thing about reducing sweets is that your taste buds quickly adjust, it’s getting your brain to agree that’s difficult!
Thanks so much. Merry Christmas 🎄
I love the complaint that you spoke about in the intro sentence “Why is it not Innkeeper?” And if it was Innkeeper then there would be a whole different set of questions and complaints. Have a fantastic holiday season, the BDH appreciates that you are stretching your creativity in a new direction. Hope you feel better in the new year and your next set of test results are less concerning.
Thank you for the treat! Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to House Andrews from the Shenandoah Valley! We have our 18 month old grandson visiting and he thoughtfully brought his parents. We’re all in bed and it’s only 9:30. That’s not how Christmas used to work when his Daddy and uncle were little boys!
PS: Not trying to rush you or anything, take as much time as you need, but do you have any idea when Maggie will be available for pre-order? Did I miss a blog post that would have told me the answer?
Merry Christmas to you and your family. Thank you for being awesome and brightening my life with your books!
Happy Holidays! You’ve made my year “merry and bright.”
Thank you so much for a Roman story. also for the upcoming Maggie series. I love portal stories.
Have a Blessed Christmas and a wonderful, successful, stress free New Year! I also cannot have any dang cookies, because I am in the same situation. That said, know that you are appreciated and that your stories give me respite from the chaos that frequently invades my life. Much love to you and yours!
Happy Holidays to House Andrews and the BDH.
The new Roman serial by House Andrews and Firebird Chronicles 5th book Trials of Conviction by TA White are the best holiday gift to me.
Happy holidays and best wishes for the new year to everyone.
Happy holidays, everyone! And a joyous, prosperous New Year to you and your families. House Andrews and the BDH are da best!!
Merry Christmas to all!
Yus, we is
Thank you for writing this serial. I hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas.
Chi chi chi chi chiiiiiiiiii!
No, you are the best.
xxoo
love the stories!
I dropped sugar and high carb foods about 3 years ago (A1c 6.5 to 4.9) mostly by keeping anything I can’t eat out of the house and cutting my holiday baking to nothing (cue complaints from the spouse). Holidays are the hardest, finding something I can eat more than a single bite of at a holiday buffet can be tough. “Moderation” does not work for me. At all.
Thank you.
Your worlds are sooo interesting and give my weird “let’s not ever stop” brain a respite. So – thanks for keep on keeping doing this.
Happy Holidays!
Oooh, goodie – thanks for all the treats! Hope Santa was very good to you and yours, and all Your treats were blood sugar friendly.
I received my 2 Grace Draven books from the Arcane Society. They are gorgeous, I look forward to diving into them. And kind of soon, Blood Heir and the other one!!!!
Hola House Andrews & Mod R,
I saw this story on CNN this afternoon. It’s about a strange power surge in the time of Nebuchadnezzar II. Interesting, no?

Neat! Thank you for the link!
Happy, happy!
I don’t wish to saddle anyone with my holiday observations, so… just be happy!
I bought my husband a birthday t-shirt in January of 2021.
It reads:
:: I’ve decided I’m not old. I’m 21, plus shipping and handling ::
Well, I gotta tell ya… the shipping and handling is hell on a body.
A few years ago, he survived multiple cancer treatments and has a new, 7-year-old immune system, and, so far, is cancer-free.
I didn’t write this for sympathy. I wrote this because the man I love and admire greatly has survived yet another holiday season with me, his contradictory spouse of over 30 years.
I, however, am falling apart.
Instead of berating me about my weight, cholesterol, blood pressure and such, he turned to me just yesterday and asked, “Are you happy?”
I said, “With you, I’m always happy.”
“Then, that is enough. We’ll figure it out.” He gave me a kiss and went to work.
His point was and always has been, “Be happy.” No matter what is happening, no matter your health or situation, do your best to be a tiny bit happy.
So, I am… I am happy. Because I choose to be happy.
I’m happy with all the small things and the big things; and books, music and movies; and snowflakes and silver fir trees covered in decorations; and the unpredictable wildlife and annoying ground squirrels; and dogs and cats; and people who love me.
We’re not rich, or beautiful, or healthy… he doesn’t make me happy, other than he is happy with me.
We’re alive. Okay, barely alive.
We’ve had our good and bad years, months, days, hours… and he stuck with me. I stuck with him when he was at his worst. We strove to find the tiny bit of happy even in the worst.
So, my best holiday wish for you, ALL of YOU, is to be happy. Even for a tiny moment. A breath. A smile on a child’s face. A taste of food. A drink of water. A warm, sincere, heartfelt gift of good will.
Don’t give in to the worst. Please, find the happy and save all those happy moments in your mind, or a scrapbook, or a photo album, and remember them all the time.
Because your life doesn’t last forever.
Thank you.
Be happy.
+1
Happy Holidays and Word-filled & Joyous New Year! You’ve bought so many of us happy moments. Thank you so much! I hope that your next year is full of good days and small and big wins.
I’ve been waiting for a Roman story for ages! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I love complex “evil” characters and Roman is perfect. a good guy doing his best in a less than perfect situation.
Thank you so much for all you do. Love your work and appreciate all the extras you give us
And you two are the best, too!
Damn! No cookies? Mine would be wine! Sugar is very important to watch. Selfishly, all your readers want you and all your family to stay healthy. Seriously, if you never publish anything else, we would want all of you to be healthy. You have given all of us so much over the years,we can not thank you enough. Christmas can be very stressful, personally, I have been going non stop for about two weeks. What an absolute joy, and surprise when I opened an e mail and found Roman waiting for me. Thank you, thank you so much. You and your husband gave me such a beautiful gift! Gods bless, and Happy New Year! All my love Jean
I’m a bit late to this news due to life. 🙂 I’m so glad to hear that the BDH is providing more than crazy demands, nuts running every direction, and occasional opportunities for Gordon to say “Don’t make me come over there…” Thanks for all you do and all you share with us. It’s a warm, safe, happy place to hang out even if sometimes we’re a bit kooky.
For someone that is exhausted, that is some fine writing. Thank you! I hope you have a Happy New Year, and wish you all the peace, health and prosperity. All of it! 🙂 Cheers from Calgary where we are enjoying an unseasonably warm Christmas
I will never forget your little snippets and extras getting me through the pandemic. And now these little Roman treats… I love having something to look forward to ❤️
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Thank you for the gift of words you give us – it is so very appreciated ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you for sharing your universe(s) with us. In any format…with a book, with audio and with GraphicAudio… so easy to make each re-reading seem incredibly fresh.
Hoping Christmas brought your wishes and the New Year is better than you all can even imagine.
Thank you for the tea and cookies and the best treat of all—the story. This is the best holiday surprise! Happy New Year!
We love you guys!!
Love it.
