We’ve received many requests and questions about Kid 2’s work and what is it about and when can it be available.
Once in a while, there will be a successful writer who will come out with “My child wrote a book!” and they will use their platform to promote their child’s book. Full power to them. When you have a platform, why not help your child out?
That probably won’t be us. At least in the beginning.
Now don’t get me wrong, we’ll help with advice, we’ll allocate money for ads, and we will use whatever knowledge we have to help her write a good query and sign with a good agent. We are very proud of her.
But people are mean. They will call her a nepo baby, they will say that we wrote the books for her, and they will compare her work to our work, and on and on. Yes, advertising her work here would likely give her a big jump in sales, but at what cost? It is far better for her to launch without the baggage of Ilona Andrews attached.
Thank you so much for your interest. She was very touched that many of you asked, and she sent over a small snippet of an older work, not connected to anything, as a thank you. She says, “This is what I put mom and dad through while in school.”
Yes, she was that bad. Don’t ask me about the time she performed an exorcism.
“Are you mad at me?”
I put my stress ball in my lap and turned to my niece in the chair beside me, staring at her over the brim of my red-tinted shades. “I’m not thrilled.”
She slumped back against her seat, groaning. “Can we just get it out of the way now, please? I hate when you brood.”
“Okay. First of all,” I started. “I don’t brood.”
“I don’t want to fight. I had a really bad day.”
“Oh no! What happened?”
“Nessie. Don’t tease me.”
“This is the second time this month that I have had to drop what I’m doing, rush here from the Circle, and sit in this chair – awaiting to be informed of what a lousy guardian I am.” I straightened my cloak. “You can suffer my teasing.”
“Everybody’s overreacting! It wasn’t that serious!”
“Mhm.
“Nobody here can take a joke,” she grumbled. “Too bad their rich parents can’t buy the kids at this school a sense of humor.”
“Haley.”
“They’re so soft! I have to walk on eggshells around everyone!”
“Haley,” I tried again.
“And for being one of the ‘top performing Arcane Art academies in the world,’ this place is so behind! All the stuff we’re learning right now, you taught me and Griff when we were in freaking pull-ups!”
“Haley.” My stern voice came out. “You chased the headmasters’ son down the hall, with blood dripping from your hands. Whose blood, frankly, I’m scared to ask.”
“It was ketchup.”
“Well, they all thought it was blood. Probably because you were maniacally laughing and chanting, ‘I am blood mage, the madness calls for blood! I am blood-
I saw the lady at the front desk staring, the warmth draining from her face.
Damn it.
I smiled and waved. “Go Vampire Bats!”
She turned away, shaking her head.
“Great,” I hissed under my breath. “Now the front office at your expensive new school thinks I’m a blood mage. Friday’s PTA meeting is going to be a blast.”
“It was just a joke,” Haley muttered. “Everybody didn’t need to freak out.”
“Kiddo, you were frothing at the mouth.”
She threw her hands up, auburn curls bouncing around her freckled face.
“I already told them- it was soap!”
I blinked. “Soap?”
“Hand soap. The foaming kind, from the dispenser in the girl’s restrooms.”
I dragged a sweaty palm down my chin. “You poured soap in your mouth?”
“Sugar Citrus Breeze- blech.” She made a sour face. “Didn’t taste like sugar.”
“No, I don’t imagine that it would.” I sighed. “And you did this, willingly?”
“Yup,” she replied, popping her lips.
“To make it look like you were unhinged?”
“You’re always saying Dad’s problem is he can never commit to anything.” She looked me dead in the eye. “I committed.”
“I’ll be committed, if you keep this up. Between this charming, little stunt you pulled here today, and your brother terrorizing his classroom last week with the reanimated corpse of their beloved pet hamster -“
“It was a bunny.”
I rolled my eyes. “Whatever, bunny -“
“Sir Hops-a-lot, Duke of Carrotown.”
I sharply inhaled. “I can’t keep doing it, Haley. The Circle has been falling apart at the seams for weeks, now. You got to help me out.”
She looked away, her upper lip quivering. “… Sorry.”
I stared at the stress ball in my lap. Thin, purple fabric, all faded and torn. Yellow, stiff foam seeping out from decades old cracks. It had taken a lot of abuse in the last two months.
“So why’d you do it? “
She shrugged. “I don’t know. Maybe I’m hormonal. Or I really am crazy.”
“Hormonal? Definitely. Crazy? Eh… too early to say.” I would tackle the topic of not calling people crazy another time.
“But I probably am. It runs in the family.” She frowned. “He started it. He’s always calling me a blood mage. Says I’m gonna turn Corrupt. Like Mom.”
Little bastard.
“You won’t.” I draped my arm over her. “I won’t let you. Either of you.”
She rested her head on my chest. “But if I did… would you still love me?”
I held her tight. “Yes. We’d just put a muzzle on you and carry on. We are Cowls. Like you said, it runs in the family.”

First!
Mary Cruickshank-Peed says
I’d read that. I’ve been writing for a solid year and that’s better than mine. Mine reads like a justification for a multimillion dollar server for a scientist. I’m working on this.
Linnaea says
So good!!! Would love to read the full thing!
Korwyn says
Please tell her that from that snippet alone I’d buy her first book when it come out. Love it! 🙂
Nicholette says
Love the snippet. Would totally read kid 2’s work. Would love the story that goes with the snippet. She can sneak my email into her author email list. She’lol blend in with my other authors and not identify as yours 😉
Really enjoying Roman. So much I’m torturing myself by reading it each week instead of waiting until the end when I can binge it!!
Craig says
So kid #2 definitely inherited your sense of humor. 😉

love it! Tell Kid 2 thanks!

Jen says
Me too! And I can imagine having an eerily similar conversation with my kids in the near future.
Leigh Ann Parente says
Okay that snippet was GREAT, and I was prepared not to like it bc generally I don’t like kid characters. But this kid is great, and I’d happily read more about her.
But I loved Jack and George and Sophie and Julie and Conlin as kids… so maybe writing non-annoying kids DOES run in the family!
Sam says
+1!
Michelle says
nice job on the snippet. look forward to reading some more down the road. I suspect you won’t have to worry about promoting or concerns of nepotism. Kid2 has talent
Robin says
I understand your reluctance to interfere. But tell Kid 2 that the BDH has her back. I’m looking forward to reading her book.
Inese says
Talent runs in the family for sure. And sense of humour with punchy lines. My daughter is a teenager who likes to write occasionally. She writes brilliant suspense and her descriptions are ace. What she lacks is what your daughter have in spades-conversations that catch attention and keeps scrolling to read more and more.
Don’t give into to crowds of NEPOTISM folk. I’m all for helping kids when one can. Especially if we can do it in ways where It does not make kids hate you. Great work and hope to read her book!
MariaZ says
Smart Mom and Dad.
AP says
Please thank Kid 2 for the snippet! She’s obviously very talented in her own right. 😊
Here’s hoping for a hint when her first book comes out and her author name.🤞
Alice says
Yes please! If you would just tell us her writing name then we could read the synopsis and decide whether to buy or not.Just tell us her name????

+2 … some help with searching please?
(that was a fun read… would love to read new book when it premiers!)
Elizabeth says
Loved it! I would totally read that book based on the snippet. I love the way she imparts the important details about the characters. Top level writing! Thank you so much!
Cynthia E says
I like her voice and can picture the scene very well, like I watched it instead of read it. I usually read a book a day and I would gladly add her book to my TBR pile.
Tink says
Gotta admire a kid who’d commit to putting soap in her mouth to pull off a practical joke. It also pre-emptively takes out the “I’ll wash your mouth out with soap if you keep using those words” threat from a parent or guardian. (Reminds me of the scene from Christmas Story where the little boy rates the taste and texture of the blocks of soap he’s had to put in his mouth for using dirty words.)
Tell Kid 2 that snippet was great! I’d like to read that book.
Breann says
According to my cousin, Dawn dish soap was the worst! 🤣
Patricia Schlorke says
Irish Spring bar soap is horrible too. To me, it ranked up there with Dawn. 😀
.303 bookworm says
…aaaand… now I’m intrigued about what you got up to that you’ve tasted both of those!

just saying… I’d read this book. If it existed.

Absolutely same! I am already sad we don’t get more 🙂 looking forward to what she does publish though based on this!
Marilyn H says
I laughed all the way through it & loved it. It left me wanting more. Kid #2 DEFINITELY inherited your sense of humor.
I love fantasy books packed with lots of action AND snark.

It was great!!!!!
thank you!! I hope everything goes as planned for the new writer in your family!!!

great snippet, that’s a book I would read. I hope I come across her work, but understand why feeding her to the horde would be horrific.

I do not have time to search for new authors.
You would be doing us a favour to let us know how to find her work.
Then we can decide.
Not nepotism to give us a chance to read.
Nepotism is when you give her something, or exclude others from an opportunity (like a job). It is the grabbing/taking-away of choices.
Letting us know where to find one option for reading … is simply awareness of options. It is the sharing of choices.
Completely different things.
Please carry on, with a clear conscience.
CHRIS says
👍➕1️⃣ That was great ❣️Now Kid 2️⃣ needs to write that book
because I think we all will want to read it. Question is, how will we know how to buy her work? I don’t think Kid Two Gordon will look great on a book cover.
I don’t think it’s nepotism at all to just give us a name to look up and do the work of a search to find her work. I would for sure go to her site and sign up for her newsletters. I don’t see any difference between that and your naming of other authors on your site as you have done with Jesse M. for example. I think you are withholding a tool from her that you freely give to others, and that is a handicap.
Thanks, Kid 2️⃣ I will give whatever you write a try. You’re That Good!
Miche says
Loved the snippet! I would definitely read that book!
Arezoo says
For the record – I would totally read this! It’s funny. I liked it. Go kid 2!
Sam says
I didn’t expect to enjoy that, but I did – thanks!
Jesse says
Love it. Yasssss!
Kellee says
Tell kid 2 that thank you for the snippet! The snippet was well written and I could easily see it in my mind and it was easy to read. I loved the aunt/ niece relationship and it left me wanting more of the story, and not just because she’s related to you. Keep up the good work!
Carrie says
+1!
Ericka says
My daughter’s 2nd grade teacher opened our parent teacher conference with “I want to assure you that Squeak didn’t make it completely out of the building and she was never in any danger.” It went downhill from there.
Raising them is HARD but the stories – after you’ve all survived – are GOLD.
I like kid 2’s voice and I’m invested. We, the BDH are A LOT though. I wouldn’t want us breathing down my neck either. So we’ll just hover back here and wait, beady eyes gleaming, until she’s ready.
Susie Q. says
My sixth grade teacher started the conversation with “I would have let her catch him but I was afraid she’d kill him.”
I lost it after my nemesis and his cronies had surrounded me hitting me with the pointy end of a football (that actually hurts quite a bit) while chanting about my lack of physical ability during gym. I responded by picking up a rock in each hand chasing him while shouting that I was going to kill him, at which point Mr. Pierce tackled me. It’s amazing that kids and hopefully their parents survive childhood.
Jenn says
I love it, and I’m hooked already, maybe that older work will get published some day too. I hope I am able to find her work when it’s published. I am interested to see what it’s like! As a parent of a very “creative” 9 year old, I feel for you both!
Sandhya Rao says
100% understand your approach towards your kid’s career, if I were you I would do the same.
About the snippet, I LOVED IT! SO SO MUCH! Is this YA or youth fiction? I know my son would love to read it, if its for kids. It made me snort-giggle quite a bit 🙂
Gina Raggette says
this is good! she should turn this into something marketable. I would most certainly read it.
Kamchak says
Très bien, y’all as we are wont to say in southron France.
Sivi says
that was a great snippet. please pass on my thanks to kid 2, she’s sated the horde s chants of more more more more for a day, and that’s hard to do 😁
Deb says
Ha! I think she actually may have amped up the chants of more. Cause that was so good and I know I want more! I echo all the thanks for the awesome snippet. Feel free to feed us more…
Debbie Lyons says
Fabulous scene! I’d love to read Kid 2’s books!
Thanks for sharing.
Best wishes!
Mimi says
Tell kid 2 thank you for the snippet!! I definitely enjoyed it!
Wey says
Thank you Kid 2!!! I hope to read more of Haley Cowl’s adventures someday!
Big Mike says
Well I’m hooked. I can guess what a blood mage is, with the expectation that I’ll be more of less right, but what are Cowls? Can Cowls cope with blood mages or is auntie putting on a brave front for Haley? What is The Circle and why is it under stress?
Let us know when we can buy the whole novel. Thank you
jing says
very interesting & fun
KeishaS says
looking forward to reading more from Kid2.
Victorria says
Proud parents I am sure! Kid2 will go far. Loved the snippet.
Bridget Curry says
“Sir Hops-a-lot, Duke of Carrotown” I love it! It’s right up my alley. I had a pig I named Princess Pigglewart.
Question, will her official literary name be Kid 2? Kid Two? Something else?
Moderator R says
We don’t know yet 🙂 – it may be a mystery in the beginning.
Tina says
child the Second 🤣
Gabrielle says
Great snippet, I look forward to reading more of Kid 2’s work.
Kristine says
Thank you!
Regina Ash says
I would definitely enjoy reading that young woman’s stories. The Addams’ Family spinoff Wednesday could use her talents on their writing staff, too. (That’s not criticism, I enjoy the show, just think it moves a bit slowly at times, and thought Kid 2’s ideas might improve progression of Wednesday. ) ALL the best, and I hope she learns to ignore the trolls and other haters.
Mags says
I think it makes sense, like how JD Robb was launched as an unknown and once she released 10 books or so, they were like “Surprise! It’s really Nora Roberts!” and had that two part crossover book to try to introduce the two parts of her audience to each other.
Following that logic, might we have a Ilona Andrews / Kid2 collab at some point down the line? (I know, Kid2 needs to be published first! I’m just adding it to the BDH wishlist now 😀)
Patricia Schlorke says
I hear you about JD Robb aka Nora Roberts. At first I thought it was a new author until I looked at the copywrite page. Once I did that, I kept on reading the series with my mouth sealed to let everyone else find out who the author actually was.
Patricia Schlorke says
Thank you for sharing Kid 2’s snippet. It made me laugh and exclaim out loud (working from home is great in these situations). She’s very talented in her own right. Like the rest of the Horde, I would keep reading the book when/if it comes out in the far reaches of the future.
I can understand why the balance of wanting to help her, and doing things for her can be tricky. As my parents use to tell me “We’ll be here for you, but you have to do the work yourself. We’ve been there, done that. Now it’s your turn.” 🙂
njb says
Omg, that sounds like it would be a fun book. I would buy it based on that snippet. Go kid2!
Angela says
While I totally respect your decision to let Kid #2 debut with out the pressure of the BHD looming over, as a consumer it can be very hard to find new work that I love and based on what little you have shared I would enjoy their writing. I hope that I am able to find it.
Perhaps you may be willing to narrow it down a bit for us and at least announce the day it gets released and make us all devour everything new that day in hopes of finding it.
Bookworm says

Fun snippet! Go Kid 2!
Elisabeth says
A really good snippet. Would absolutely read the book.
Stephanie says
Kid 2 will do fiiiine! She already knows how to bribe a Horde. 😉
What if you just posted a list of emerging authors on the blog at a future date after it’s published, of which one of them was Kid 2? It wouldn’t be specific advertising and the Horde would still be able to find [and devour] the [tasty] new book! 😇😇😇
Allison says
This is a very good idea and would also give exposure to other promising young authors!
Ona Jo-Ellan Bass says
This is a wonderful idea!
Melissa Buckley says
OMG- this was great! I can’t wait to read more of her work! She killed it!!!
K says
Yes🙃 definitely runs in the family. Thank you.
Lee says
Utterly charming!
Ruth says
Wow – for an early effort, this is an amazing snippet. Best of luck and we hope there’s, at least, a proud announcement when the new book’s out for sale so the BDH can swoop in and enjoy it.
Karen the Griffmom says
You cleverly have turned the BDH’s attention to Kid 2; now maybe there’s time for a bubble bath and glass of tea? Welcome back, Mod R!
Cynthia A Hamon says
I’d read this in a heartbeat. Thank you kid 2.
Kat says
Wait, no, hold on – i want the rest of that snippet! What happens next!
No but in all seriousness, it was quite enjoyable, thanks for sharing~
Grazie says
wow, really good – think it really foes run in tge family. hope all success to her publishing endeavours if this is a representative sample. Impressed!
Shalomar Tyrloc says
Love the excerpt!
I get where you are coming from on not advertising her work here. I think I would feel the same as a parent and I know for a fact I would feel the same as a daughter. I want my work to stand on its own two feet. I have enough doubt without wondering if people bought my book just because they liked my parents.
Sharon A Leahy says
First, that was a F U N read!!!! I actually want more, I want to know what happened to that kid, and more about the family. And what’s the Circle? I’d buy the story right now.
I hope Kid 2 gets at least a Patreon site going soon, and will soon be publishing.
Smiles, and may you both, and she, and we all have a fabulous time riding the creative energies of the Green Wood Dragon year!
Kat in NJ says
Love it! Kid 2 definitely has inherited the writing genes and has a bright future as a writer! I give you a lot of credit HA for helping her out while at the same time letting her stand on her own merits. 🥰
As a mom, the hardest thing I have had to learn to do is to stay out of the way instead of trying to always make things too easy for my girl. And I’m still always working on it!
In any case, here’s wishing Kid 2 the very best of luck! Maybe when she has debuted and has successful sales you could give us a little hint or six? I would love to read more (as would the rest of the BDH, I’m sure!) 😁
Alexis says
If that’s Kid 2 early work I can’t wait to read what she’s doing now. I respect your stance, you both not wanting to add any additional hurdles or drama for Kid 2 journey. But still being there for support 😍
Yvette says
Thank you for sharing the snippet! I love it.
Char says
Thank you to Kid 2! That was a lovely gift for a dull day.
Hope she gets all the good things!
jewelwing says
Seconded!
Deb says
The snippet is great! I can’t wait to see the new book she’s written.
FWIW, I agree with your thoughts on supporting, but letting her do things on her own.
Plus, you know the Hoard will support her.
Good luck Kid2!
Gayle Toney says
Runs in the family is right on. if this is an early, not so good piece of her writing, then as a dedicated reader I want to read the whole story and hope for a sequel. I’m sure you know she has talent, and I’m also sure that you are as proud as punch of her. So I will wish her God’s blessings.
CatS says
Loved the snippet!
Carla says
Ok, I would buy that. Make sure she gets on KU, please, I need more good reads lololol
Sandy says
Wonderful to hear a new voice!! I would love to read more of her work and wish her all the best. Hope you can give us the news when her first book is published.
Please thank her for this boost to my morning.
Jean-ann Stump says
That was Awesome! Thank you for sharing.
Teri Langston says
I loved this. I would love to read more. I do look for other authors occasionally and would love to try your books. Where can I find more?
Moderator R says
Kid 2 is not published yet 🙂 , so unfortunately there isn’t more of her work I can link.
Judith says
I like it 🙂
Diane Peters says
Well it seems like talent runs in the family. This had me interested.
Maybe a hint when she gets published!
Wendy says
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it! definitely not a nepo baby. learned good story telling from her parents. this would be an awesome novella for her at some point
Margaret says
Thank you kid2. I liked the little snippet and would happily read more. Do you have a blog? Continue to write you have a great start no matter who your parents are.
KathyInAiken says
Intriguing and funny. It reads like something is would definitely purchase.
KMD says
Eh, I don’t blame her. Stephen King’s son did it too, now no one can say he didn’t earn it on his own merits.
Dallas says
I like it, go Kid 2!
Josephine says
So excited! I’m always looking for more books and authors to read! Your glowing recommendation of Jessie Mihalik has led to me picking up a book and falling in love with another author. Hopefully her debut books is well received and she develops a deticated following.
Sami says
Good for you Kid 2/Mod R! I always love your posts and you’re so funny, it was always obvious you could write!
Moderator R says
Thank you for my share of the compliment, but I am not Kid 2 🙂.
I am no Kid, no relation. This is all House Andrews’ youngest daughter, her talent and achievement!
Norbert says
Mod R, you are House Andrew‘s adopted honorific crazy cousin – exactly what the Horde needs to keep us in check. 😉
Bailey says
That was fun!
Michelle from Wisconsin says
Thank you Kid 2. You have talent, I’m looking forward to reading your first book.
Wendy 2 says
Absolutely love this! Too bad there isn’t more. 💗
Teri says
Can you not be sneaky & circumvent the cries of nepotism by gently nudging other author friends of yours in kid 2s direction? I know Jessie Mihalik haunts your blog and often does book recs *hint* cough *hint* 🙃
Patricia Schlorke says
I think I’ve seen Angela Knight (if it’s the same one I’m thinking of) comment on here too. 😉
Sue F says
I had the same thought…
EV says
🙂 nice.
Norbert says
It runs in the family, indeed…
Kid 2 definitely has your talent to get readers hooked with only a few lines of text.
So, you will not tell us the title of Kid 2‘s book? Challenge accepted. We are the mighty BDH. We WILL find out one way or another. Resistance is futile!
Mary says
Lovely story, good conversation rhythm, grounded in compassion and humor and love, with titillating and offhand references to very interesting things/backstories to come (hm why a guardian, huh an Arcane Arts Academy, we are Cowls what’s that). Well done snippet — left me wondering and interested, and a bit sad apparently there won’t be more to come. Yay Kid 2! xxoo
Louis says
I really liked this snippet! thanks for sharing! Go Kid2! and I would pay to read this story – it introduces an interesting character in Haley, a bit mysterious one in the uncle! I look forward to more snippets and to her first book!
Is there a pen name she’ll be writing under, so that we can follow her, look for her?
thanks again for sharing!
Moderator R says
We will likely not know her pen name, at least to begin with 🙂
.303 bookworm says
If THIS is an old piece of work from a much younger Kid2 then I suspect we’ll easily pick her out when she publishes. “Debut author hits NYT best seller list” will probably be the headline. And that will be without help from IA/BDH!
Regina says
Looking forward to her debut and another awesome series to read.
VannaK says
I would buy it!
I hope you’ll tell us her name when her book is published so I can find her books. 🙂
Thank you!💙
Kristi says
Excellent. I would love to read this.
Vicky Pappas-Villafane says
Thank your daughter for the snippet
I already want to know more about the Cowls
When the time is right leak her nom de plumb somewhere so we the bdh can enjoy a new author
Jessica A says
This was delightful. I fully look forward to seeing Kid2 rising up completely on her own clear talent. One day when the internet connects the dots between you, we’ll all shrug and say “that makes sense” then keep reading. Thank you for sharing.
House Andrews produces a lot of Primes. 🙂
Kira says
🤣 I cackled as much though the story reading as I did through our numerous “hint” requests!
I thoroughly enjoyed the piece, and hope the absolute best for Kid 2! 🤞
I won’t add any begging. I won’t!
👍👍
Vicky Pappas-Villafane says
Auto correct 😡 nom de plume
Ruth says
I usually hate autocorrect. I got a bunch of chuckles picturing why someone would have a nom de plumb though. Thanks for the laugh!
Catlover says
Thanks for the great snippet! I read it twice and giggled all the way through. I take it the exorcism story contributed to your stress created grey hairs. Parenting “creative” thinkers isn’t for the faint hearted, but they sure make life interesting. Now when I see young kids and teens being themselves I thank God mine are grown up and raising their own. I call that earned payback and smile.
Ruth says
Aahh, that parental curse: “I hope when you grow up and have kids of your own, they turn out to be JUST LIKE YOU.”
JenniE says
That was a cool snippet. Thank you and her for sharing a little of her work. Not that you need it, but I wholeheartedly agree with your reasoning. Living in the shadow of your family and always having your works compared will do her no favors. It may help her sales, but it would be detrimental in the long run.
Jen says
Now I want to read that book! Such an unfair tease.
pete says
Sounds like you have good solid reasons for keeping your kid’s name separate from yours. However I’m a reader always in search of another good author. And I liked that snippet quite a bit….
Amy Yount says
I like the snippit It was interesting and at 72 if I live long enough I will enjoy her books as much as I have yours
Pam says
Hey, I’d buy that. Sucked me right into the story, and I wanted more. Doesn’t matter whose child she is – she can write.
Patti says
So fun! I will definitely read anything she publishes!
Thank you!
Jane says
It’s good. She definitely inherited the family artistic creativity gene. 😉
Terrie C says
If this is an indication of her style, I am definitely interested.
David says
Wow, really nice. More Please
VB says
Good snippet; thanks!
We’ll have to organically watch for and pounce on the book, then. (And not be mean, natch.)
Sarah says
Fab snippet, well done kid 2! I hope you have a very successful publishing career and I hope I’m able to discover your books even if I don’t know who you are when I read them.
Bookworm says
Tell Kid 2 that I would definitely read this book and I hope I can find her book when it gets published!!
MELINDA FLICK says
That was fun! Will you be telling us her name, or her nom de plume?
Becky says
Very nice! Of course, Kid 2, now we want more. Because that’s how we roll. We’re committed. 🙂
Catherine says
OK I enjoyed that. hope I find her published soon!
Carolin says
I wish this was a whole book! I actually laughed out loud which I don’t often while reading.
I get your reasoning but I hope her books will fall into my hands by chance anyway!
Minna says
Love that spirit! 😁 Interesting glimpse to say the least.
All the best to Kiddo2 in her chosen path. You go Gal 💪🏻
And cudos for making your parents use that tone still when remembering your antics 😂😂😂😂
Denisetwin says
Oh I would so read that! <> Love love this line. She is obviously very talented! And the ending paragraph totally tugs on the heart strings. Wow. I so want to read this book.
Marli says
I gotta say- that was excellent and I would love to read the entire story!!!
Best of luck to Kid 2!
lisa says
Ok, now I want to read her book!
Elissa Carroll says
This is very good!! Such nice realism to the interaction, not stillted at all but instead you can feel the frustration born of love and the ability for it to be met head on BECAUSE the kids have been allowed to communicate honestly and share their own opinions and thoughts. Very nicely done, “kid 2” (sorry, I do not know your name). I’d be intrigued and want to read more.
Mary says
I would read this. Definitely has potential. Wishing Kid 2 much success in her career!
Lorentropy says
That was delightful! Without a doubt better than the opening pages of many published books I have tried. I too understand and support your approach to supporting Kid 2, though as a complete outsider I know I can’t even begin to understand the trials and tribulations of breaking into the publishing world, not to mention the role chance plays. I’m sure your guidance will benefit her enormously, without the can of (ravenous) worms that is hinting at things to the BDH. 🙂
My only fear is that she may one day have an excellent book published and I will never learn of it. I can only hope that you will employ your considerable wiles to let us know the book exists without letting us know the author is Kid 2.
Monica Martin says
Oooh that was fun. Did she write anymore because I could get invested lol.
Deb Fett says
You definitely are your mother(&faters child. Loved it. Has the same kind of humor in it that house Andrew’s is famous for
Great job !
Ariel says
This is so great! I love the concept. Thanks for sharing and I wish you the best in your journey of writing (whether you write for your enjoyment or for others). And to be fair, I would totally buy this book if it were developed.
Linda Eighmey says
Its Good! Id read more of that. Keep it up and good luck.
Maddie says
Loved it! Only problem is, now I want more… Kid 2 doesn’t by any chance post weekly serials on a blog as well? 😀
Linthea says
Well… call me crazy, but I would read it! Sooo… can I devour? Pretty please? 😀
Lynn says
Oh, I would definitely read this!! Go kid 2!
Cheryl says
I’m in. I found the snippet from Kid2 amusing and want to know what happens next. Thank you.
May I propose that a sign up website be made where we can ask for more info (and snippets) as they become available? Or would trolls sign up, too….?
Amanda P says
Oooooohhhh I like it!
I think kid2 should run her own snippets/weekly site.
I’m feeling the pull to know what happens next 😁 Honestly, it’s really good
Claudia says
It’s good. Really good. If I grabbed a book of the shelf and it starts like this I d buy it immediately. Would you please consider to share the name of this new author when he/she publishes? Don t want to miss it. Fully get your reasoning, too – but name sharing is not marketing. Love the Andrew’s Family x
Faith Simmons says
I would relish a full book of It Runs In The Family. So wonderful & entertaining!
Katie R says
Well, that was intriguing. I’d read it.
You’re good parents. Thinking long term for your kid is hard sometimes when you can give them a boost immediately.
Jen H says
Tell her Thank You! for sharing. This was really intriguing and made me want more. I understand and respect you guys not wanting to expose her as your kid, but I really hope whatever she gets published finds it’s way into my hands. I would very much like to read whatever she ends up publishing. Wishing her the best of luck!
Mary says
I’m definitely keeping an eye out for debuts though I suppose it won’t be out for a while yet. Thank you and Kid 2! I love your work to tiny little bits and pieces and eagerly await the Friday special :-D.
Gloria Magid says
OK – I am now really sad that this is a snippet that will never be finished, because I want to read the rest of the Story!!!
Evelyn says
I would absolutely buy that story. Regardless of parents. Love it!
Michelle says
sounds good. I’d read it. I completely understand why you don’t want to advertise on here, and why she wants to stand on her own. however I do hope that we learn her pen name here. so we can look for her on our own. because of my fixed income I can only buy a few books. so I would like to at least know that the book I’m buying is good aquality. After what I just read I’m sure it would be.
Omar Mtz says
please provide more information about “Don ’t ask me about the time she performed an exorcism”
Sabrina says
Love the humour, the snark, and the underlying sense of family!
Kit says
Where’s the rest of it? :)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
yess, KID 2 can write, I loved it, I want more
Dobercatmom says
And the BDH cries MORE!!!!!!!!!! MORE!!!
Gai LaMarche says
Yes she has definitely inherited your talent and snark. I should know, I had a brain tumor (benign) that removed a lot of memories, and have just finished rereading KD and Innkeeper Series. And I once was given a Christmas mug by one of my bosses that says Professional Smartass.
Sharon says
That is really good! Love the humor.
And I totally get that you don’t want to tie her work to yours. That is wise, for all of you.
I will buy what she publishes. I am not sure I will like it, of course, but I will buy it and be honest in a review.
Ann Minton says
I enjoyed Kid2 ‘s writing. I would definitely buy her book. I have 3 daughters and when I could I helped them to reach the next level they needed to be successful. But I could not help them in the way you can. Help her with the agent and publishing Love her and bask in her success as a parent. There is nothing wrong in doing so. Plus give us her writing name and the book title. I’m ready to buy it. Not because of you but because I think I will like her story.
Zaz says
Oh my. I do hope your daughter finishes this book and I am able to find it. Totally fascinated by it. Not just saying this because hey it’s your daughter. Really enjoyed the Aunt / Niece relationship. Especially the Aunt
Trish says
Now I can’t wait to read Kid 2’s work!!!
Rachel-G says
I was not one of the commenters calling for your daughters book title ect, but after reading the snippet, PLEASE!!! When she has her first book published, let the book devouring hoard (that I am an über proud member of) know????!!!
Also, the interrobang really does need to be a character on my keyboard 🙂
Gladys says
Love it!! Can’t wait to read a full novel! Thank her for us!
Bill G says
Love it!
Jean says
I love it. Ahh, youth, I remember my own crazy stunts and my mom called me a “damn Salisbury” (her mother’s side of the family, lol.)
Robin says
Damn it! Now I totally want to read this!!
Rachel C says
Kid 2 is talented — I would read that in a heartbeat. Not sure how you can let us know when she is actually published and under what name without it sounding like nepotism (and it’s NOT) but please let us know. Just from the snippet I want to read the entire book. And series because that is definitely a series
Ona Jo-Ellan Bass says
Hear, hear!
Tracy says
That was a great snippet! Kid #2 inherited your writing talent (or at least listened and applied your advice 😃). I can’t wait to read the rest of the story-that’s a good sign, right? I want to read more of the story! Kid#2 seems like she’s on the right path to be a successful author in her own right.
Mary says
If I got called to the school because my nonexistent child did this, I would be laughing and it would be inappropriate. LOL.
Kate Daly says
At least Kid 2 was interesting. I mean, you have stories. If Kid 2 had gotten into run-of-the-mill trouble, you wouldn’t have them. You’d have been robbed. I congratulate you for having a well-beloved child with a well-fed imagination.
Kathryn says
Omg that was hilarious! I love this and would totally read more! Fantastic! Muzzle and carry on!
Voirrey says
cool, is the more?
Lizzie says
She’s good, she’s very good! That snippet would definitely draw me in for a whole book. Lots of encouragement for Kid 2. The BDH will need to know, somehow, when her first book comes out.
House DeMille says
I think it’s a good decision not to advertise the connection at first. Otherwise she’ll always be known as “Ilona Andrews’ daughter” rather than her own author brand…
Whereas if she’s able to establish herself and gain her own following, then if the connection is revealed after it can bring in new readers but not overshadow her.
Tammy says
The snippet was really excellent. It grabbed my attention and pulled me in which is what I look for in a book. Looking forward to finding their book when it is published.
Gail Lefkowitz says
Definitely the family sense of humor. I will look forward to her debut.
Toni Roberts says
After reading that insert I would love to read the whole book if there is one. Well done. Loved it.
LZReader says
Now all of BDH will be foaming at the mouth (without using soap) to find her first book whenever it comes out. It will be like the most secret of treasure hunts, lol.
From her snippet I am looking forward to hopefully finding her books in the future. She’s got talent and I am always a sucker for a good story.
Sheree Ross says
well definitely your child. It’s very good 👍
Steve L says
I wish her luck in starting out. Cool snippet.
Sandy F says
Kid 2 has a lot of talent. Can’t wait to see where it takes her. I hope I find her books when the time comes. I am also very glad you all survived her childhood and teen years.
B. McCauley says
Thank you for introducing her work.
I would also like what name she’s going to write under as I can already tell I will likely be reading her books.
This snippet looks like the start of a series …
Well done baby Andrews
Keith says
Luv it
Without description I can already visualize both characters
Thank you lots
ChanieB says
Legit want the rest of this story
Tammy says
If you don’t want to promote Kid 2’s book that’s understandable but the snippet looked really good so please let us know when it comes out, title and author.
Bea says
I would read that 🙂 🙂
Marcia Sundquist says
well I definitely think she a good grasp of writing, this snippet is very interesting and made me want to read more of this story, she will most likely be a good writer and I look forward to seeing her books in the future.I will be keeping my eye 👁🗨 out for her own book release.
I also think that you are right in saying that you will help with getting Kiddo 2 an agent and staying in the background because this not the way of life choices (I’m lousy at communicating my ideas). She will know that was her blood sweat and hard work that got her started and not you giving her an easy road on your coattails.
LizH says
Loved it Kid 2, thanks for sharing.
jeannine says
Great snippet, Always room at my house for more good books, my library isn’t full yet!
Kat says
There is no such thing as a “full library” in my world 🤣🤣🤣
Lou says
I am so happy to see that you are encouraging your daughter to make her own achievements. I had the opportunity for 10 years to influence whether my daughter won writing contests or got awards for other things. I didn’t do it.
There were people who said “teacher’s kid” when she won.things. But she always knew it was on her own merits, not my doing or even judging those years.
There were times she kost and her disappointme t broke my heart. She’s grown now and has achieved many things and has self assurance. She even published 3 books. Your daughter has talent and it’s good she gets her success on her own. Good for you
Arianna says
This is brilliant! So short and yet so fun!
I really hope Kid 2 will become successful on her own, best of luck to her!
Kelly B says
I would very much read that story…kinda sad it isn’t a story…..ok, sad, I’m sad that I don’t get to read this as a story.
go kid 2! I commend you for following your heart and writing passion.
Kellie says
Love it! I’d read it!
Kathleen says
Love it, hope to read her book in the near future. I like her sense of humour and her punchy lines
Shannon says
Hey, that was good–it ended too soon! Thank you!
Kathryn Halloran says
I would so read that story. I feel like I raised a version of that child.
Emilye says
Tfs. that was intriguing …
Rose says
Okay, but…. I’d read that. Even if I didn’t know she was your daughter, if that was in the first chapter somewhere I’d be hooked.
Stephanie says
I love it! Wishing kid 2 all the best!
Trueblood310 says
sounds like something I would like to read sounds very very interesting
Debra says
Love it!!! I understand the decision not to promote on your platform, but I wish I could keep an eye out for Kid 2’s work.
Cathy says
Great job! I really want to know what happens next, so definitely a success story.
Susan says
Love it-I was sucked into the story! Exorcism you say?
laura says
i very much enjoyed kid 2’s snippet and wanted more of the story when i reached the end!
also, the Pouting of the Hoard on not being told kid 2’s name made me giggle a bit. i understand her wanting to make her own debut without added expectations when the time comes.
Jodi says
Love it!!!! Now I want to at least know kid#2’s name to be on the look out for her book.
Jenn says
This was great! Thank you! I loved the humor and then at the end..heart strings tugged… thanks again Kid 2!
Lori Sprunk says
What happens next???????
Leona says
Well I gotta say. I can’t wait to stumble across her future work! I loved this snippet! Please tell her thank you so much for sharing with us! And I totally get it. People can be the worst sometimes…
Heather says
That was sweet! I would like to read more of that!
So… will you at least let us know where we can find Kid 2’s book when it comes out?
Dana says
” We’d just put a muzzle on you and carry on. ” PURE GOLD! I loved the entire snippet – it played like a movie in my mind, so strikingly visual! Talent obviously runs in the family. I hope I can figure it out when her book comes out – her whole voice just strikes a chord with me! Best of luck to her!
Katy says
The snippet wasn’t enough…I need to read more of this story. Pretty please? I enjoyed it a lot, and can’t wait to see what Kid2 publishes. Thank you for sharing!
Susan Mayo says
I have just become a subscriber; do I automatically become a member of the BDH or is that a separate issue?
Moderator R says
You are one of us! One of us! One of us! 🤗
Welcome to the Horde!
Patricia Schlorke says
I second Mod R’s welcome! Welcome, welcome, welcome! 🥳😎
Socorro says
Bravo for Kid2!!! Talent and potential: awesome.
Hard and wise choice as parents, to let her stand on her own.
Tell her “thank you for the snippet, now we wait for the book!”
Jean says
Great snippet, Kid#2!! Best wishes on the publishing project! 📚📚📚
And, as we say in the theater – break a leg!!
Richiey says
I’m intrigued. I would pay to read more of that.
CathyTara says
It drew me in, good job. Kid 2 has chops
Lenore A. Villa says
That’s pretty good.
I wouldn’t mind reading the full book on that one.
Thanks for the tidbit!
Cin says
Nice! I’d read it.. Looks like she inherited you’alls sense of humor. 🤣
Michelle says
I loved the snippet. I admit I was invested. Than you for sharing.
Megs says
Loved the snippet; I would 100% read that book. I understand wanting to keep your professional distance, and that the Horde can be overwhelming. I also hope that you might mention her the way you mentioned Jessie Mihalik (whose work I love and would not have tried if you hadn’t recommended it), when her stuff comes out, because I’d hate to miss it.
Now, about that exorcism… 🤣
Natália says
Guys, I loved it, I laughed so much just at this little bit, and I was waiting for a little more. Kid 2, apparently, has your sense of humor, when you said she was terrible, she was prepared for something really bad but that’s not what happened. I’m also a reader of young adult books (especially adventure ones) and I wanted to read something more mature by her. (By google translate, so it might have been a little strange)
Monica says
Made me smile which is always a worth reading indicator. Thank kid two for sharing her work.
Leigh-Ayn says
Thanks for sharing Kid 2! I’m invested! I wonder what happens next? what is the Circle? So many questions ha!
Mary Ann Apostol says
i love it! definitely looking forward to reading her works!
Lea says
Can you at least recommend her when her first book comes out without saying she is your daughter? Otherwise how will we find her????😢
Debra Fransen says
Thank you! I hope kid 2 will 1 day be able to finish this story. I liked what she wrote and think the snippet has quite alot of potential. Good luck to her.
wingednike says
Great job to Kid 2 and being willing to share with the BDH. I’m sure it can be daunting. Wasn’t she alpha Mod R?
Lacey Pfeffer says
We will at least need the name she is publishing under. Give us a hint? Will begging help?
Alex says
Oooh I would read that. I feel very engaged with these characters for such a brief snippet. Kid 2, we are all rooting for you – you are clearly very thoughtful of your work and career. Wishing you a ton of success!
Amy says
She is takented. More please.
Sage6 says
Kid 2 is very snarky. I like it. I have questions about the exorcism.
Kat says
Tell kiddo 2 that I loved this and really wanted to see more. This was something I would definitely read! Good going #2!!!!!
Kim says
Yep, I think it does run in the family. You’re at least going to throw us some hints, yes?
Or no, I get it, but still – it’s going to kill us all, you do know that, right?
Kim says
Hand up if you think Kid 2 has accused her mother of brooding at some point.
Jess says
The banter, magic school, family dynamic all made this something I’d want to read!
Totally get the wanting to avoid the baggage…but would hate to miss out on a good new book! I find it hard to find things that hit the banter/feel good note
Maria Schneider says
People will be mean whether you help or no matter how much you don’t help. Be who you are–kind, generous and doing it your way. Don’t change who you are or make decisions based on someone else’s mean because mean will always be there.
I enjoyed the snippet. Thank you for sharing. Give it your all like you do everything! Commit!!! 🙂
Rebecca says
I would absolutely read it! Thanks for the snippet, Kid 2!
I absolutely get what you are saying about not wanting to burden her with the IA name, but maybe you can at least give us a heads up when her book comes out and the name she uses as her pen name. Then, if we all go and buy it on our own accord, without any recommendations on your part, how is that anyone’s fault?
You know we are all pulling for her. First, it feels as if House Andrews (and all its members) are family to us. Second, we are the BDH and that means we need MORE books to devour! Way more than any one super-talented writing couple can keep up with alone.
Jean Smith says
I.loved it.Now I want more.
Carol says
She writes very well and would love to read her whole book! Hmm- maybe have her start her own blog and if we beg enough, you’ll put it in a link ?
Judo says
Yes, I foresee a lot of begging in my future after reading that teaser. LOL
Sleepy says
“Yes, she was that bad. Don’t ask me about the time she performed an exorcism.”
hahahha thats a riot. Good luck to Kid 2!
Judo Maxino says
This is great! I would love to read the entire thing. I respect that you wouldn’t want kid 2 to go through the Nepo baby craziness.
But on a totally selfish note, am I the only one here who’s going to obsessively look for her work after reading that awesome snippet? LOL
Sara says
I’m hooked! Wish I could keep reading. Thank you for sharing!
BT says
Thank you, Kid 2!!!!
This may be an early work, but I’d like to meet these characters.
#1 Mom, Can you please, pretty please wrapped in silk/alpaca/Shetland wool (enough for a light shawl), give a hint on how to find her book?
Thank you
Lora Tyler says
I will second this request, pretty please!
Mary says
Clever! Nice world building, and accomplished a lot in a snippet, good job. Thanks for the piece, and I hope you have more for us.
Lora Tyler says
Please let her know, that I love this snippet and would very much love to read more! Writing runs in your family and I will be delighted to get my eyes on her writing as well. Thanks so much for sharing.
Macgrani says
One of my sons is a male version of your kid2. Strangely enough he is my kid2 as well. Very similar sense of humor. This was an actual dinner conversation when our older sons were in their teens.
The boys had been fighting and I did not want them to end up like my two brothers who pretend neither exists to this day. I reminded my two sons that above all else they were family. OUR family. Friends will come and go but we as a family will always be here for each other. They could not change the fact they were all from the same gene pool.
My Kid2: “Yes, but I’m from the deep end”
I cannot wait to purchase your Kid2’s book. I have great faith in her gene pool! Congratulations!
Artstuff2 says
WOW, great snippet now we will all want to read more! She is totally a” chip off the old block” as the saying goes!
Brightfae says
Delightful! Keep it going!!! Soon you’ll have your own BDH. And not all of them will have come from HA. 🙂 Some of us will, sorry. 🙂
Vendetta says
I loved it. Looking forward h
to more of her works.
Have a love/hate relationship with snippets!!!
pepper says
Wow, That really grabbed me and kept my attention. It also left me wanting more! I think it brings up the question is writing talent inherited or is it taught?
As the member of the book devouring Horde, I Must ask the question, when’s the next chapter coming out?
She did a great job of grabbing my attention and getting me interested in the storyline. I guess it’s true that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Kerrie says
Where can I get the full story? Tell your kid to take my money now.
Daniela says
Kid 2 is good. I wish her all the best! I will buy her book when available (I think I will be able to find her pen name 🙂 ).
TWAndrews says
I’ve finished books on Kindle Unlimited that started way less interesting than that. Looking forward to reading her debut when it comes out!
Monica says
There are very few authors that I read that write in the first person, I am not a writer, but I find that it is perhaps the most difficult to do. It doesn’t always come out right.
I don’t know if the story attached to the snippet is good, it was after all only a snippet, but, the writing is good, I would continue to read the book based on the ability to write in the first person without the “I said – she said” etc.
Good luck to Kid 2, I hope to read one of her books soon, the snippet is good and interesting enough that I would want to read the rest.
BTW – I would love to hear about the exorcism
Safa says
I’m already following this blog so long, that I still remember the first snippet Kid2 posted years ago and now she’s publishing a book…crazy how time passes. I’m really happy for her and wish her all the sucess!!
I can’t wait to read her book(s) one of these days
Stacy says
all I’m going to say is, if I ran across this in a store I’d get it…only problem I can see is running across it at all, no store near me and recommendation in the online store aren’t intresting or already have it. mainly find new stuff from your recommendation
regardless this snippet seems interesting…and good luck
EllenO says
I’d keep reading that! Engaged me right from the start, I want to know more about the characters and the interaction between the two seemed genuine and was very fun to read.
Anna says
This was really good, she should definitely continue it.
Sandra says
Congratulations Kid 2 on creating an engaging snippet at such an early time in your career.
It was funny, well rounded, and left everyone including me, wanting more.
Looking forward to reading more from you in the future!!!
Ilona & Gordon, totally understand you not wanting to push her under the bus that the trolls and the BDH can be, but if the writing is that good, I doubt that she’ll have much trouble.
Kelly says
It was so good! loved the humor and the peak into their family. wish it were on its way to being published.
Kathryn H says
That is wonderful. And I want to hug the little girl and her guardian.
Viv says
i understand that you can’t make it right any way you do it, so this might be the best solution.
but reading the snippet:
1. your kid won’t need “nepo” support, it’s great!
2. BDH will identify your kid’s book in seconds, the humor you write runs in the family (that’s a good thing). looking forward to their books!
Honor says
But I want to read all of this! I would buy the rest of the story. Please?
You recommend other authors, you could recommend Kid 2 without saying it was Kid 2.
Love your work and your blog. Thank you.
xox
Honor
Brooke says
Well they have my interest peaked. I don’t care if they’re my fav Auths kid or not.I’m hella picky about my reads and I want to read more of their work
Seanwt says
Question: if I wanted to find “the book by Kid2” how would I? No name for privacy reasons, yet she does not publish as “Kid 2” I am sure.
Perhaps you could do the same for her that you do for all of these people
https://ilona-andrews.com/category/blog/news/friends/
Let her be a friend whose work you like, all of which I am sure is true. I have bought many books in your friends category, some of them I liked, some of them I bought every title they have published (thank you for Will Wight!) some of them I bought one book of and will pass on the rest. I am willing to do that same test for whomever you put up, if they are your kid or not. I personally vastly prefer a good story that has some romance to a good romance that has some story. I am a proud BDH member because I think you write great stories that have romance in them, if kid 2 does the same I will gladly buy her catalog as well.
Christy says
Definitely want to read her work when she’s ready!! And I want the rest of this story. 🙂
Could we have one low key announcement when her book is out? Please!?
I’ve been going through Kindle Unlimited books lately… And there are so many boring, stilted writers out there… She’s already better than 99.9% of them. I want something fun like this.
Izzy says
*****
5 stars
Suzanne Terho says
I really love this!!!
Stacey says
Respect for your choices.
When kid 2 does publish, could we be informed of publishing period, genre, and form of publishing (e.g. ebook vs KU etc)? kind of a middle ground where the horde hasn’t descended but the worst that happens is a lot of good authors get noticed in a particular time frame? we’d have all sorts of fun speculating in the blog comments too.
I like your stuff and it stands to reason that while kid 2 will have her own voice there will be echoes of you in her writing the same way anybody is influenced by people they admire and work with. i like your voice because of the way you look at people, so I’d like a shot at finding kid 2’s book too.
Cathy says
This was a great bit of writing! I really enjoyed it! Just that snippet sucked me into the story and made me want to read more.
I’m looking forward to being able to read Kid 2’s first novel!
Lorye says
Wow. I’ll be reading her, too. She definitely inherited the Andrews’ dark humor, which I LOVE
Claire says
this snippet has got me SO excited for her launch, whenever and however it comes!
SometimesKate says
That was great! Thank you for sharing! I would definitely like to read more of this.
Rohaise says
That was a very enjoyable snippet. Thanks for sharing.
Verslint says
umn, this was awesomeness… probably not the right place to beg for more? 😘
Becky Kidder says
Oh my goodness I love it kid 2 did a great job
Ani says
That was funny and interesting. I liked it. If her published work is remotely written in that style I would read it … now: how to figure out which out of the many many many books coming out it will be in the future? I am more and more just reading things recommended to me – how can your daughters book be recommended to me if not by you? I do understand your reasons though and applaud them … I still wanna read the book at some point. Can you do something like: tell us like half a year later or so? (just wondering ….) 😉 But tell her to continue writing – the world needs good writers with a sense of humour.
MMD says
I already want to know about blood mages, the circle, and everything else. Congratulations Kid 2. Hopefully I’ll come across your book organically. Good luck
Chris says
I heard you Ilona, (here is the But)
Can we just know her nom de plume”
Sarah says
Awesome snippet! I would definitely read more.
Thanks for sharing.
Latoya Wilson says
I loved it. Would read it in a heartbeat! Here’s hoping for a hint when Kid#2 publishes. Need fresh blood.
Mary says
Love it!
Ava Stanley says
she is gonna do just fine
Cheryl says
thanks to kid 2 for the snippet!
Clarissa Johnston says
Yup … I’d read that one! So far I’m very interested
MerryB says
Well, drat it. Now I want to read that! Thank you Kid 2
RT Boyce says
Well, that was super fun! I would love to read more of that story. And it doesn’t read like an Ilona Andrew’s story – definitely has its own voice.
I hope someone leaks the title of Kid 2’s first book, I am interested to read it.
lea says
yes, I would like to read more of this story, please.
thank you
Hollynn says
Hi. I just discovered this site in December and have been hooked with the Roman serial. That said, I loved the snippet. It’s so hard to find good story lines with humor in the genre. That’s why I keep rereading. Please, do give us some sort of hint or heads up when Kid 2 gets her debut! We can still make a choice to read or not. Thank you for all your writing.
Mary Welch says
Thank you Thank you. I so enjoyed that snippet, it made me laugh. Go Kid2 Go.
Dorian says
I really liked this. I need!! Gimmie more!!!
Jennifer says
I would definitely read that! Rock on, Kid 2!!
Beth says
That book sounds delightful!! I would love to read it. Sign me up for a copy!
Jeanni says
That was a fun read. With your mentoring and her talent she should do well. Looking forward to stumbling upon her books in the future.
Ellie says
Would definitely buy whatever she publishes – based on her writing style, not because she is Kid2.
Also very curious to read about the time she performed an excorcism 😁.
Please keep writing and start publishing, Kid2!
Faith says
Thanks Kid 2, I enjoyed that snippet & would like to read more!
Bonnie Atkins says
WOW! This apple did not roll far from the tree. Most Excellent lead in for an impressive new Author! MORE! MORE!!!

I like it! And I also like your reasoning & process about assisting your kid. Makes sense to me and I wish her all the luck in eventually having a successful debut! Her style definitely has some of the flavors of yours, but it’s like she is making her own recipe. I’m excited to see where her literary baking goes from here.

I read a lot! My main problem with good writers are that I can read their yearly production in a week.
Do you know how hard it is to find good writers who fit my interests and have a OK quality? You need to buy and read trough so much muck!
This here «bad» work is way better than some om what I have been reading the last year. I know she is young, and I don’t expect the HA routine and finer touch, but I hate the tought of knowing that her work will be out there, and I need to go trough a pile of debutant books to try to find her! Help me out here, please! Can’t you at least get me on her mailing list?
I think she will be a really good writer!
Lesley says
agreed. At least let us know how to find her – drop us a breadcrumb please!!

And I want to read more (sighs). I hope I stumble across her book when it releases because I like how Kid 2 writes. I understand why she’s doing it on her own and can see why it’s a better option. I think she has “it”, whatever “it” is and I need more good books in my life.

yes it does run in the family.. prime ranking for kid 2.. 🏆
I loved the writing..it flows.. hooks the interest of the reader and keeps it there and when I finished reading, the reaction in my head was “noooo.. I want the whole thing:((”
so go ahead and promote her work…it’s worth promoting from the sample.. signed and attested from me a self proclaimed book worm🤓

I remember reading Anne McCaffrey’s autobiography and she said that one time she went into a bookstore looking for a specific new author and the clerk tried selling her some Anne McCaffrey books, knowing who she was, and then demanded to know why she was trying to buy a first work by a nobody author.
“He’s my son.”

Kid 2’s work is awesome. Tell her the readers do not care about their family background. We just care about the stories. Kid 2 brings delight and happiness in a world that needs magic

The snippet was really good, I would definitely like to read more of Kid 2’s work. I wish her all the best for her debut!

Thank you for the much needed laughs. I enjoyed this and it made my own problems seem paler. Wishing her the best and that I stumble across her work once it is published.
Cheers.

THE BLOOD BRED TRUE, BEHOLD, KID TWO
I really like it. I hope she keeps at it.
As for nepotism, I feel that’s more often sour grapes than true nepotism. Helping out your family or friends, no problem. Helping family or friends to your own or your companies detriment is what I feel nepotism represents. That is my own opinion and doesn’t necessarily match the dictionary definition.
People have the right to spend their time and money as they see fit. If your company has twenty employees and seven of them are family that’s fine. However if three or four of them are pretty much redundant that can hurt the company, and that hurts the rest of the people that work there. That is what nepotism means for me.
It’s a balancing act. Riding your coat tails versus standing on your own two feet. It’s between those riding and those standing to decide. Not the onlookers.
I try to stick to the adage ” only respect the opinions of those who have earned your respect”. I try to keep in mind that not all opinions are deserving of my emotional investment. Ah in my old age I’ve become a sage ( in my own mind 🙂 )
Have a good week Mod R and the Andrews family. Thank you for the years of enjoyment reading your books
