Hump Day Roundup

Admin, Blog POST A COMMENT October 29, 2025 by Moderator R

Happy Wednesday, Book Devouring Horde! Hope everyone’s week is rolling along smoothly.

I have a few admin odds and ends today and a nerdy folklore share:

House Andrews appearance – they will attend Jasmine Mas’ signing tonight at 7:00 pm at B&N Arboretum in Austin, Texas. Ilona and Gordon will be hanging out and asking Jasmine some questions about her new release, Bonds of Hercules. I believe there are still a few tickets left on Eventbrite if you’re in the area.

For readers in Australia and New Zealand: a reminder that you will not be able to see the preorder for This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me – Maggie the Undying 1 yet. This is because titles distributed through Australian publishers usually appear for preorder 3–4 months before release. Expect preorders in that region of the world to appear around December 2025.

Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels #3) in dramatized adaptation by Graphic Audio is available on promotion on the Audiobooks. com website until November 2nd. If you haven’t yet listened to the full cinematic Midnight Games rendition, you can snag it here for 50% off.

I know everyone is very eager about The Inheritance audiobook – Ilona will have an update on that for everyone soon! We’ve shared some samples previously in case you want to tease your ears with the awesomeness of our dual POV narrators, Hillary Huber and James Konicek.

And finally: I loved watching this video on folklore from medieval historian Dr Juliette Wood today. It made me think of my favourite Horde and the kind of topics we always dissect in the comment sections, so I thought you should all know about it too.

Get in the mood for (razor-free!) Halloween with Internet cryptids, mermaids vs sirens, and how the Victorians managed to shrink the fae:

OOH! First! Something nice for today when everybody has the cold that’s going around Illinois. Earlier in the week I found vintage Flower Fairy fabric in the clearance room of my local quilt shop for under seven dollars a yard. I can fussy cut the fabric to get eight different fairies!

Thanks for all the updates! Do we know anything about the next Graphic Audio for Hidden Legacy? Or this just another one of many opportunities for me to learn patience?

We know the script is done because I edited it at the beginning of the month! Also, Alessandro has been cast, after 7 arduous casting sessions, with House Andrews’ blessing 🙌
We’re getting the Rogan POV and all the good stuff. It’s a heavy one though, final battles, Caesars, dashing male secretaries with frying pans, all the stuff – so although recording has started, there isn’t a clear release date yet for a preorder 🙂

Thanks! I know you let tell us when something is up for pre-order, but it kept now showing up and not showing up, so it’s nice to know that it’s still in process — even if it isn’t as far along as I would like. 🙂

Ok, yes. I’m basically like a small child waiting for Christmas worried that it’s NEVER going to come.

Also — love the new avatar.

        Ooohhhh
I’ve just started to listen to the Nevada trilogy in my car commute. (much nicer than my usual TRiP or News Agents which feel more depressing each listen). Cannot wait for these!

        Also Mod R – I’m currently obsessed with Celebrity Traitors (#TeamCelia #fartyfart).
What would a Hidden Legacy cast be like if they did Traitors?
I can see Rogan being one of the ‘big dawgs’ and Grandma Frieda is basically Celia!

Happy soon to be Halloween! Thanks for the updates. I do miss when y’all used to come to Atlanta on tour, but I understand touring is exhausting and distracts from writing.
Either way, I’m super excited for This Kingdom!

Thanks for the exciting updates and for all of your hard work editing. Graphic Audio is my favorite and my best! I’m currently listening to their fleshed out version of The Innkeeper Chronicles and greatly enjoy having my hands free to finish up chores while still being entertained. Mom life is even better with audio books. 📚 . The video was fascinating, especially when she explained that fairies aren’t tiny and cutesy in Ireland.

PS ♡Your enchanted hat is adorable ♡

Wish us good luck! We are fostering (sure, sure “fostering” heh heh heh) a cat from a colony. He has to have been someone’s indoor cat years ago bc he is so loving and touchy-feels. He is also the size of a small puma (OK, slight exaggeration- but he is definitely Maine Coon sized). Hope he settles and hope he plays nicely with our 19yo Gigi.

Wish I had some Diana vibes to talk to him. Pets and treats will have to do.

p.s. that cough-y, achy, icky-feeling cold/virus is everywhere. Week No. 3 for me

Happy Halloween for those who celebrate! I’m listening my way through the GA KD series as I work on my costume and just finished Magic Strikes. I’m making sea monster armor which was pretty amusing during Book 2 with the Fomorians.

Indeed, it has appeared just a tad (9 days!!) earlier than we expected 😅 – only on Audible for now, but will be available later in libraries and other retailers.

Ilona will explain everything in detail tomorrow. Basically, the royalty structure system on Audible is changing into… no one is quite clear what exactly it’s changing to, a new ‘Something’ nobody is explaining clearly. So a lot of authors are opting for the exclusivity period in order to benefit from the existing rates before the change takes place, but for The Inheritance the exclusivity is temporary and it will distributed widely in January.

In happy news, I’ve personally checked and it is available on Audible internationally – UK, Canada, Japan, Germany, Australia, France etc. (But please give it another few hours to populate if you don’t find it in your specific country)

Thanks Mod R for all the information for the Horde.

It’s finally cooled down in the DFW area. The extended summer that didn’t want to go away has retreated for now.

Happy Halloween to all who celebrate the day. Be safe if you’re trick or treating Friday. 🍬🍭

Now I have the song “Monster Mash” in my head. It’s a graveyard smash. 😉😂

Really love the folklore video! So interesting how these themes/creatures/tales evolve.
    Thanks for thinking of us!

    Love your Avatar!

Not doing anything for Halloween this year. Laid up after ankle surgery and my hubby will be gone so am going to curl up with my doggies and listen to Orson Welles and War of the Worlds radio broadcast!

Have a great Halloween ModR and House Andrews!

Thanks for the updates. I will not be home for Halloween night and porch light will be off. I have been attending local HS football games. And at my age I have a Gold Pass from the local school district that allows free entry into the games (and plays and such if there is availability on the day of). Such fun! Glad for the real cold front in Texas.

  19. Anna says

    October 30, 2025 at 4:00 am

I loved the video, but, as the granddaughter of farmers, I don’t understand how anyone can say hay and manure are useless ! They may not be as useful now as they were before the industrial revolution and all the artificial substitutes to natural solutions, but for millenia hay was the only way to feed cattle during the winter, and manure was the best fertilizer for many if not all crops. As far as I know, they are still used in that way too

    • Patricia Schlorke says

      October 30, 2025 at 4:12 am

I agree with you Anna. Hay is still used in feeding cattle, that I know of in Texas. Manure is used as fertilizer on farms, at least that I know of on Amish farms in Indiana. I was in northern Indiana, visiting family, when I passed a lot of farms up there. The smell lets you know.

Organic farms may use both too.

Ya there were several points she was way off base on. The entirety of scottish folklore for one.

      • jewelwing says

        October 30, 2025 at 1:10 pm

Fun to listen, but I agree that her hot takes were not necessarily accurate or complete in every case. That’s the case with most talking heads though. Opinions are not the same as facts, and facts are not wholly accessible or applicable in folklore.

However, they are much more likely to be accessible and applicable in science. Off I go now, tra-la!

        • jewelwing says

          October 30, 2025 at 1:13 pm

*Also I’ve done an online q&a on a fact-based subject, and it is actually quite hard to give complete answers in real time. Afterwards you end up obsessing over what you left out.

Will the Maggie books be put onto the IA book store?

Also, an observation, I was trying to find the link to the IA bookstore and couldn’t find it, I ended up googling “ilona andrews book store”. Its probably worth adding that as a link to the various book pages so people looking to buy can see the option. These days when I’m looking up a new to me author a link to buy directly from them is one of the things I look for.

    • Moderator R says

      October 30, 2025 at 5:12 am

No, only the self-published books can be sold directly through the store. Maggie is traditionally published and will be retailed through the publisher, Tor.

Thank you for the feedback on the store visibility.

I am going to give my nickels worth of opinions and on dual readers. I really don’t like them. Outside of the graphic audio books, I only found one so far where she reads everything except his part. He reads his talking parts. But the latter is all her pov. The book is in her pov.

Flipping back and forth on chapters…. no.

IMO He can read his pov and his talking. Ditto for her and they can divvy up the rest of the characters.

IMO only. It’s a peeve of mine. Dual seems to be the new thing writing and audio lately. Listening I find I get tossed out of the story, then get use to a new reader and get tossed….
    Again…. my opinion only.

    • Moderator R says

      October 30, 2025 at 5:38 am

You’re talking about duet narration . This is a dual POV – not the same thing 🙂 . Hillary is reading Ada’s chapters, James is reading Elias’
