Yep, in mourning prep-mode!

“Do not be sad because it is over, smile because it happened” – Dr. Seuss; where would The Horde be without its AuthorLords and Kate & crew?
I’m sure the next contest will be: “how many times have your re-read the KD series?” LOL
Tiffany says
Amen.
Sjik says
That actually sounds like a fine idea. One more reread – rinse and repeat. And as fun as that sounds, I think I don’t want HEAs from the authorlords, because they tend to signal the end of the story. Why would anyone ever want that?
Dr Julia says
I think many of us have timed our re reading the entire series for the new book. I’m not sure who is more excited my 12 year old or me
Lada says
I love this series and while I’ll be happy/sad to read the last book, I’m also excited to read whatever new adventures the authorlords will take us on. I’d mostly like to express my gratitude for the hours of entertainment. You have always been gracious in feeding the hungry hoard. Thank you!
McMe says
^^ This × 1000. 🙂
Saira says
+1 (THANK YOU awesome author lords for all that you do 🙂

Hear, hear! ? ?
Andri/Kaylenn says
Well, given the book isn’t out for another week… oh well, you are prepping! =) I won’t be sad for Kate & Curran, because they have more than earned their happy ever after. I will miss the chemistry between them, but I have great faith in your future endeavors! =)
Olivera says
I’m sad but I’m also looking forward to new books from our favorite author-lords. I’m actually excited to see what new worlds they are going to show us.
janine orlando says
I’m thrilled Kate and Curran finally get their HEA. Whenever I miss them I can just re-read the series. I am eagerly anticipating Hidden Legacy and Iron Covenant and the next big adventures the AL take us through.
Cassandra says
I’m actually not sad. To have the series end in a planned way, have at least some of the questions answered, and Kate and company left in a good place seems like a very good thing. It’s a fulfillment of Kate’s journey and I’m excited to read about her triumph. It would, of course, be terribly sad if the authors were to quit the writing business but as that doesn’t seem to be happening, then bring on the new stories! Looking forward to more Hidden Legacy, Innkeeper, Iron Covenant and whatever else they want to create. Congratulations for so much enjoyment over the years. And since Best Series is now a category in the Hugo Awards, I think the Kate Daniels series deserves a nomination on next year’s ballot.
Ali says
I agree!
Nikkilina says
Oh definitely! I nominate!
BelleBok says
Definitely agree….And YES! to all you have said.
Waiting impatiently for my own copy.
A BIG THANK YOU for all the happy hours in Kate’s world.

I am sad that I cannot take part in the other thread. I don’t do kindle cos I like real books, and I don’t do hardcover cos they’re hefty. I don’t even know when I’ll be able to read a nice paperback! To make my lot even more harsh my local libraries don’t stock Ilona Andrews books! (I’ve recommended twice that they should)
*Sob, sob… Waaaaaaah!*
Deborah Armstrong says
You might want to take that recommendation a bit further…
A: Put it in writing
B: Address it to either the Head Librarian or the
Library Board
C: If you’re not getting anywhere, fire off a grumpy-gram to the Letters-to-the-Editor of your local newspaper
After all, if your recommendations are being set aside, it could just be a junior staffer who turns up her nose at “popular fiction” . Or there may be more to it. Either way, you deserve to know…
Adriana R. says
Many bookstores have comfy chairs in them somewhere…;)
Adriana R. says
…oops, I didn’t mean to suggest you shouldn’t buy the book at some future date so you can reread it anytime you want. After all, we need to keep the authorlords well fed. All praise the Authorlords!
Rae says
I work at a library where we offer “inter library loan” where if a book a patron wants is unavailable we can request it from another library. You should ask a librarian at your library if they have that sort of program. Ask a librarian not someone at the circulation (“check out”) desk. 🙂
Debbie says
A period of mourning for the end of an amazing series. The good news is that the characters will always be around to annoy Hugh! I have really enjoyed the Kate series and will always keep it in my re-read bookshelf. No matter how many times I have read the series I can still escape into the pages and feel that I’m a part of their world.
Monica R Beeson says
?? This made me laugh. Honestly though I didn’t realize how sad I was till I pulled all the Kate series to the top of my kindle to do a reread at the beginning of the month… and I have yet to read any. Lol. I’m sad but not in a way when you know that’s it and done. Like Jane Austen’s books, cause you know she’s been dead a while. But still sad none the less. I’ll end my denial next week and either reread or just dive in to the new book.
Susan says
Lots of gnashing of teeth here. I will miss the KD world and so many of its characters. I dread/anticipate the last book. On the other hand, going out with a great ending of the series is much better than the way I’ve seen some series continue on. Yeah, you know us well.
Keera says
It’s a bittersweet feeling really. Sad because of no new adventures but so happy for their HEA. There are always reads and re listens though!! They husband bought me the paperbacks, I own the ebooks and I am slowly collecting the nook audio versions.
Thank you guys so much for creating a world of magic and fun with a genuine heroine and her sidekicks.
Marina says
I’m not sad! I’m not sad ! I’m not sad !
I’m never going to part with the characters, we’ve been through so much together that they (and all of you) are family!
Robinelle says
Excited to read the new book , only a little sad, cause I will definitely be reread the series when I miss the characters!
❤️??. Thank you!
Amy says
Really looking forward to this one. Can’t wait to see what the future holds. I’m really, really, really hoping we will get more Derek and Julie!!

I’m not one to watch the end of series, to say long goodbyes, or to wallow in the sorrow that change can bring… That said, this series has been a ray of hope for me for the better part of a decade. I own it in every format, it’s seen me through moves, heartbreaks, and countless sleepless nights. I don’t know how to wrap my mind around it ending any moreso than wrapping my heart around the thought of my beloved pets passing someday.
Kate has been a character that taught me so much about love, strength, and accepting inherent strengths along with weaknesses. The relationships which have been carefully built, the meticulously crafted world in disarray, and the visceral feelings invoked by a storyline defined by what makes a ‘family’… This story is one I’ll keep in my thoughts for the rest of my life.
I’m not one for goodbyes, but in this instance I can’t imagine not reading and listening to the final book. Thank you, Ilona and Gordon, for giving me something to look forward to during the dark times. It was a pleasure meeting you both many years ago, I feel lucky to have loved this labor of love you’ve shared with us all. One more week, bring in the tears and laughter. ♥️
Mary Ann Creemer says
I’m sorry the KD series is ending but grateful that it continued as long as it did. I have enjoyed and looked forward to all of the books and to the KD universe books. I’m sure there are Ilona Andrews books I haven’t read, but it’s because I haven’t found them yet, or I can’t get them in kindle. I have run out of room for paper books.
I have to say that I enjoy my kindle because I carry a whole library with me, and, too, since I’m getting old it’s nice to be able to set the font to a comfortable size for my reading pleasure.
Amira says
Omg, I totally mixed up the release dates and I thought it was releasing in November and that Hidden Legacy was releasing soon!! Quick – to the reading nook so that I can reread everything!!!!!
Debi Majo says
I imagine a10 book series is difficult but you have managed to keep us enthralled and addicted to your stories. All of these characters seem so real and they have grown with their challenges. I am so happy to have found your books years ago, you guys are just awesome!
Andrea Smith says
I agree. Not very many authors can keep the readers entertained through a trilogy, rather 10 books. IA is awesome.
Crescent says
You have taken me through so many rough times: the death and decline of loved ones; the torment of loss. When I need strength I turn to prayer, but when I need to escape I have so often done so with you. It is the excellence of your writing and the balance of your characterizations that allow the suspension of disbelief necessary for a total immersion into another time and place. Thank you. So very, very much. Please keep writing.
TK says
I love how you ended this series – I’m obviously sad it’s the end of Kate and Curran’s arc but you gave such a satisfying ending – the HEA that they deserve.
I do want more stories about Erra, Julie and erm everyone else in this amazing world you built. I can’t wait for more!
Ali says
You went above and beyond, wasn’t this originally supposed to be 5 books? I was just thrilled after reading number 1 when I found out there was a second one. You are wonderful authors and I love the way you write. Thank you.

Nope. Still not ready.

I will never forget reading Magic Bites for the first time. I found it a little bit late and was so enthralled, I immediately began searching for other Ilona Andrew’s books and found the 2nd and 3rd KD book. They were awesome. This series has just gotten better and better. Even the rereads are enjoyable. What a journey you took me on. I will miss new adventures but I like HEAs. I can revisit when ever I want
Thank you doesn’t seem enough for the hours of enjoyment
Eli says
I am happy. I love Kate, but I am glad you will be focusing on other characters. It’s safer for the fantastic world that you’ve built. I salute your wisdom!

The Kate Daniels series will live on in my memory. Meanwhile, I’m frantically re-reading the entire series before I get hold of Magic Triumphs next week.
Kelly Jacobs says
As Yoda said:
There is no sadness in happily ever after, there is only re reading the entire series starting at the beginning. Well maybe that wasn’t yoda maybe that was a movie reviewer.

It has definitely been our delight to read such a wonderful series Thank you for all the countless hours and hard work you two have put into it. And thank you to Kid 1 & 2 as I am sure they have contributed both directly and indirectly as well. 🙂
Heather says
This just means that I will have to start back at the beginning. Repeatedly.
Kerry says
This has been an awesome series and will definitely miss it! Thanks for the genius behind it and onward to even better things!

Kate Daniels walked me through some of the low points of my life. It is not over yet but I will never forget how she stood like a rock while I kept threading water.
I will miss you deeply, Kate.

Ahhhh, well, when in sadness, just go back to reread. That’s my philosophy for any beloved series, or any impatience while waiting for the next book.
Lee says
This picture of Kate is just incredible! That is all ~
Sophie says
I’m sad but also happy. I think it makes sense for Kate to have her HEA, I hate it when TV Shows/movies/books get dragged out and then you feel bad for your favorite characters. I want Kate to get an HEA and then to get updates on her life via other characters from time to time! I really appreciate all that you guys do for us and the vigorous schedule you keep and the incredible worlds you have introduced us to. Thank you so much for giving me something to look forward to every year. 🙂
Though I’m panicking now because for some reason I thought it was coming in September and now I’ve got like 6 days to re-read everything in the series before the 28th. So I guess I won’t be sleeping in the next week 😉
Judy B says
I don’t write well, I don’t speak well, but for 70 years I’ve been reading everything I could get my hands on.
I think most writers don’t know when to stop.
In 1965 I read, “Dune.” Wow, what an amazing book. It turned into a series, by the end of the third book, it was getting silly and by 6 or 7 it was weird. All those books were well-written, but Herbert would have been a lot wiser (in my humble opinion,) if he had expanded a few of his other books instead. He wrote amazing books. His worlds were a joy to discover.
I love the Kate Daniel’s books, but I’m glad you are choosing a new direction. All your worlds are wonderful.
Thank you.
Joanne says
Sad but happy! A good way to go instead of having the series drag on past what would feel like it’s prime.
It’s been over ten years! Isn’t that crazy?! Where were we when we first started reading this series in our lives? I was a completely different person and over time I grew to be who I am now so it really feels like I grew up with these characters slowly!
Joanne says
not sad. happy. but sad. UGH I cannot make up my mind. 😀
CharisN says
Better that it end well than drag on and on and on until we want to kill it off. I was ready to slap poor old Sookie Stackhouse 3 or 4 books before the end. That was a long slow death. And I LOVE Charlaine Harris.
Patricia Schlorke says
I’m not sad or sorry that Kate and Curran’s story arc with Roland is over. Why? We get a Roman series (more Eeyore pjs anyone?)! We get more of the others in the Kate world. ? I agree with Ilona and Gordon…Kate and Curran deserve their HEA. They will be back when the Horde least expects it. Then it will be like old friends visiting.
Allison T. says
Am I sad that it’s over? Of course!
Am I also glad that it has a definite END, rather than tapering off into obscurity as the author tries ever more desperately to find ways to keep the audience’s attention when they’ve run out of interesting things for the characters to do?* Absolutely!
————
*This run-on-sentence was completely intentional. Just like a run-on-series, it’s hard to read and should probably be changed or put out of its misery. You Authorlords 100% aren’t in this category with any of the stuff you do… but most fantasy readers probably know at least a few series or authors that do qualify.
Omar Mtz says
It was a bittersweet end, there were some people that died that I was starting to get invested and one that I was really invested (i’m not sure if he is really dead, knowing him he might have done something, but who knows) and I mourne him. I would love to continue reading about Kate and Curran’s life through their perspective, but I understand that they need their closer. I love that Kate was able to find a solution to the great problem that was Roland.
But damn with that ending, I hope we get a Roman story because we now have a person that’s into dark hair and mysterious guys. They could make quite a couple.
Samantha says
Spoiler, if you haven’t read Magic Binds.
Hello, I just finished re-listening to the entire series in preparation for the end of an era and I have a question. Does anyone know why Dali was Kate’s MOH and not Andrea? I’m confused by this each time I finish Magic Binds.
Please help me out if you know. Thanks!
KathyInAiken says
Hi! It struck me also. If I remember correctly, Ilona explained it right after the book came out in one of the blog entries. I “think” it was because Andrea was married – some wedding tradition from Russia. I may be wrong about it, but am too tired to look for it in old blog entries.
Samantha says
Thank you, that helps. I at least now have an understanding of why Dali was chosen. I felt bad on Andrea’s behalf, lol.
I may try to look for it once I’m well rested and read it for myself.
Teresa says
I am so excited for you. Your baby is grown and leaving. It’s sad but still exciting. I can hardly wait for more and new books. Thank you for putting up with your adoring horde.
Catherine says
Honestly, I’m glad that the AuthorLords know when to stop a series and say it’s over. Unfortunately in the past, I’ve read series, where after a while, it was apparent that the books were being written for a paycheck or a contract only. The writing was horrible and whatever was loved about the series destroyed. I’m happy Kate and Curran get a HEA, I’m a big believer in HEA’s. So thank you for the wonderful journey and I can’t wait to see where else you will take us. I’m here for the ride!!!
Marnie says
I’m hoping for occasional short stories. Please?
Melissa says
Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!

I’m sad the series is ending, but I do want Kate and Curran to have their HEA. I want to express my gratitude to two amazing authors who not only have never disappointed me, but have thrilled me and given me much happiness. Thank you for sharing your talent with us, and for all the books you’ll write in the future. I’ll be reading and re-reading all of them 🙂
LLB says
Ditto. Couldn’t say it better.
Storm Rise says
Exactly this 😀

Completely agree. Have loved this series for so long and read it so many times. I’m excited this, words fail to say how excited. But not sad… Because I’ll be this excited for whatever you write next.
DJ says
Well said. It’s bittersweet, but yet very exciting. I’m wondering if the baby will keep them on their toes
Marianne says
+1, Well put Gretchen! I couldn’t have said it any better!
Alexisa says
That was said perfectly said.
I second that all the way.

There is no way that I could top those sentiments. I’m very much looking forward to reading more of your collective works.!
Thanks so much ❤️?

I will miss them, and am a little sad that they might not show up again for awhile. But, I do want to say thank you for the fantastic storytelling. You make it so easy to fall into your stories.
Hope Taylor says
Exactly. You really hit the nail on the head.
Susan says
Kate is my favorite character too. Well said.
Josee says
Agreed, well said!
Marcelline says
Thank you both for so many wonderful years of absolute enjoyment while being part, if only in fiction , of Kate an Currans adventures.
Beth says
Thank you for giving us Kate and Curran and their world. You guys are the best.
Nena C. says
It will be sad the say goobye to Kate, but I can’t wait to see the new worlds and characters you will introduce to us in the future. You never disappoint.
Lin says
I may be sad, but I will always have my books and can reread whenever I want. As long as our authors keep writing, I will be a happy reader.
Barb says
I will miss Kate and Curran, as well as some of the best secondary characters from this series. But I know down the road we will get to see many of them in future stories. They deserve their happy ever after.
And we can anticipate all the great new stories upcoming like, Hidden Legacy, innkeepers, Huge and all else that you have planned for us.
Thank you for all that you do.
Kevin w says
I loved the Kate Daniels series and have not only bought all the books in the series thus far, but all the anthologies featuring Characters in that universe! I am very sad to see Kate & Curran ‘s adventures come to an end, but am still hopeful that the world will live on through Hugh D’Ambry and Maybe Julie and Derrick could be the next Power couple! Until that happens, thank you both for creating such a vibrant world!
Mary Pursley says
I couldn’t have said it better.
Jean-ann Stump says
Kate and Curran will always be my favorite couple. Kate never does anything half way and Curran will always be in charge no matter what he does. They are just awesome. Thank you for these incredible books. I am counting the seconds until Magic Triumphs even though I don’t want to finish it.
Michele says
Thanks for a well developed urban fantasy series . It is my go-to when I need to decompress from reality.
Look forward to future books from y’all.
Rena says
I will miss getting a new Kate and Curran story tremendously, however I have faith that whatever you both come out with next will more than live up to what we have received from you so far. Kate and Curran deserve their HEA and we will move on to new worlds with perhaps some peeks back occasionally via supporting cast.
I would dearly love to see Julie and Derek end up together eventually for instance. 😉
Karen says
Yes, please, Julie and Derek foreverrrrrrr
Lori Wilhite says
I keep hoping I’ve misunderstood and Magic Triumphs is only the last book in 2018. This series has been amazing, and it opened me to a genre I wouldn’t have considered otherwise. I’m hoping the Innkeeper and Hidden Legacy series continue. I even like Hugh; only these authors could take a despicable character like Hugh and make him someone to respect. Could we encourage some Sean and Connor POVs? And I’m excited about the rumor we’ll see glimpses of Nevada and Connor in a Lina series. Please, more than 3 books per series!
Nina says
Yes! The only thing that keeps me in good mood is hope that Inkeeper and Hidden Legacy series will have more than 3 boks.
dLMa says
Here, kitty kitty . . .
Bigger than she was in were form, between her and the way out, underground, in the dark.
An Oh S**t moment. True Grit. Kate owned herself, the situation and my heart, imagination & belief
Curran in a coma, The Pack in a pet, Respect for her scarce. No R E S P E C T for the mate bond, no respect for what she has done & sacrificed for the pack. Major kudos to the Beastlord, he saved my reading.
Preceptor of the Iron Dogs, True Villian, vulnerabilities revealed. Low life, souless, hardhearted (why do l suspect he wants to fail) monster. Kate lost an other mother, Christopher lightened my heart, Simon saved their lives And my heart broke over those empty drums . . .
First Aunty, now Daddy & history is learned, ends are wrapped up. Is there a way to Survive … Curran is NOT letting go … Mishmar and Daddy tests and Jim leading the Pack into the stupidities The Beast Lord tried to pry them out of and the A L’s are warning warning warning LAST KD AAaarrrggh are they insane
Nope! K D & B L have earned their HEA. The whole time l read l have waited for Kate to win. To dictate her path, to choose & make her decisions. I’m excited to learn what they are, but mostly l’m excited to have an end . . .
So l can go back to the beginning & start again
Thank you for this journey, thank you for this keepsake l can repeat in orders of my curiosity, interest, & enjoyment
Penelope27 says
Sad, are you kidding? Thanks for some excellent world building. Kate, Nevada, Dina et al, so far, so good. I will pre- order all your stories as you write them. One thing though, could you release some around the holidays? It feels like the 28th will NEVER get here and I could use the extra time around then……
Kellie Feld says
It’s been a long road for Kate and Curran, but a wonderful experience for me and your other lucky devotees. I’ve loved them together right from the get go – from the first time I read “here kitty, kitty”. I am sad for it to end, but I’m happy that their lives get to settle down (even if it’s just in my imagination). I’ve loved this series and these characters more than any other in my life, and I owe a world of thanks to you two wonderful writers. Over and over you’ve taken me out of my world and transported me to an exciting world full of daring, loyal, and sometimes complicated people. I’ve loved everything you’ve written, and I’ll always be invested in the characters you write…but I will miss Kate. It feels like saying goodbye to an old friend.
That being said, I could really get into a Julie and Derek series (she says hopefully).
Kellie feld says
…and I sure said “world” a lot. ?
Tabbi says
The KD world is a very interesting place and takes me into a world that over the years I’ve got to know and be apart of. I love this series and the characters are wonderfully well thought out. Am I sad that KD is over? Hell Yes! Am I waiting in excited ridiculous giddyness for the last book? Damn straight I am. Thank you Author Lords for the wild ride, it’s been fan’bloody’tastic!
( And i agree with Kelly Feld, I’d love to read more about Julie and Derek)
Monica says
I took the first 3 books on a trip to Bali in 2011 on spec. The bookstore assistant had said she thought I might enjoy them. Well, I read them in a day, staying up almost all night, and then twice more before coming home. I arrived at the airport after travelling all day and got a cab (dragging my suitcase!) to the biggest bookstore in the city to get all I could more. I’ve loved every story just as much since. Thank you for such relatable and loveable characters, despite their fantasy qualities. Thank you for such a fully formed world that I love and think of out of the blue (would I ever cope with the real Atlanta?). And thank you for kick ass adventure story lines that entertain on every page. I’ll miss Kate and Curren and the rest of the crew, but will enjoy imagining for myself what they might be up to…
Curryan (Ryan) says
This was my all time favorite series. It had all the perfect qualities that I look for and I was hoping it would go on for much longer ?. It’s going to be hard to find a new series that will fill the void and be just as mesmerizing as Kate Daniels. I’m going to miss Kate and Curran ?
Bill G says
Sad? The story-line, the KD-Post Change World, will continue. With focus going to other great characters. Wheeee!
Anne says
I have loved this series, characters and off-shoots. It is amazing how involved you can get in a series and your series is certainly one of those.
I picked up the first book when it first came out on a whim and have never looked back.
Thank you so much for such great writing and amazing characters. I am sure, however, that this is not the end for you and that there will be another amazing series starting soon and I know I will look forward to reading those books too.
Thank you!
Deborah says
I loved Magic Triumphs and seeing Kate and Curran as parents to “the prodigy” was perfect. I also loved the wrap up of the Roland arc. It was a perfect ending. Thanks you so much! Is there any way this series will be released in hardback at any point? I love to collect my favorite series for my library in hardback. Or if it is available in hardback please let me know how to find them?
I can’t wait for whoever you choose to write about next, I know it will be awesome. Other than the obvious choices, Julie, More Innkeeper, Nevada, etc. I would really like to see where Jack and George characters are now? Is there a chance they can get their own series and HEA’s?
Thanks for all you do!
Mellifluous says
I am feeling a little nostalgic as I write this. I well remember picking up Magic Bites in the bookstore, what seems almost like an aeon ago now. I was 11 years younger, married but with no kids and thought I’d try the book because the premise seemed interesting. I remember buying the second book because I thought the first one “wasn’t that bad”. I have grown up with the series. Back then, the Kindle was a novelty, urban fantasy as a genre was still in its infancy, most books were still sold in book shops (not online) and Borders was still king of Australian bookstores (although not to remain that way for much longer). How things have changed! I have a family now (and so does Kate), urban fantasy has had its heyday (and gone back to being niche again), I will read Magic Triumphs as an ebook (I have been reading ebooks for a while now) and Borders is but a distant memory. Kate will get her HEA. Who could have imagined more than 10 years ago that when I picked that book up that the series would still be going in 2018 or that the authors would be household names in the urban fantasy genre. What an amazing journey. Thank you, Ilona and Gordon for your stamina, goodwill, and boundless imagination. This series has made me laugh (and cry) sometimes at the same time. The vampire hole punch moment remains my favourite in the series. I am glad that Kate and Curran get to retire gracefully and I am already looking forward to the next set of adventures you have in store for us post Kate.
Lorena says
Ilona & Gordon.
I love u!
Kate and Curran will live for ever in fan’s hearts.
Samantha says
Love, love, love this series. You guys get better with every book. So excited to see what you’re going to do with Hugh in this new trilogy.
Gabrielle says
I want to say thank you to Ilona and Gordon for years of laughing and tears. So many times I have been inspired to be more like Kate in my own life. It sounds absolutely ridiculous, but she helped me to get out of an abusive relationship. The Kate Daniels series was the first fiction novel I ever read. She was brave even when she was scared
Strong for her friends, when she couldn’t be for herself.
Crazy enough to go up against people who were so much stronger than her, because she stood up for what is right.
I can never thank you both enough. It wasn’t your intention, but you changed my life for the better.
I will always be a loyal fan and I am happy that the “person” who inspired me to get out of a toxic environment is going to get her happily ever after.

No, I’m not sad – I’m satisfied, I like the sense of completion. Kate and Curran are very real to me, and they deserve to have things easy for awhile. Let them relax, worry about Julie getting involved with an unsuitable man, spoil the grandkids. It’s a well created, awesome universe the Authorlords have established, and a lot of people in it I’d like to know more about. I think we’ll probably hear something about Kate and Curran in passing in exploring their stories.
Antonia says
Kate and Curran deserves their HEA! There should be an end but I will miss Kate’s voice and character so much! I least I can re-listen to the audiobooks and re-read the books. Of course I will look forward to new installments in the world. Thank you Ilona and Gordon for this amazing series!
Joyce says
I want them to have HEA, but I can’t see it.
Kevin DeHart says
I promise not to be sad that they had their HEA. At least as long as we can talk yall into another installment or two of the text/Twitter shorts and maybe a cameo or two.
Angie seale says
Sad but in a good way. I wanna thank, from the bottom of my heart, both you and Gordan for the respite from daily life. This series is a classic as far as I’m concerned and I can wait for future books with these characters thrown in. I hope I am able to thank you in person if I can make it to Atl. Oh..and fyi…I love both innkeeper and hidden legacy as well. I read a ton and have since 6th grade and you both are my favorite all time. Love ya!
Blynn says
Oh there will be tears…big fat “good thing I’m not a guy” tears. I’ll miss Kate most of all. But I’m glad she’s getting a HEA… so many amazing authors stumble into dud books with the story arc bc of contractual obligations etc., but this series is bliss from start to finish- I know I always saved them for the really bad pain days, and they work like magic. Something beyond price in my world.
Can’t help but feel Hugh’s book really softened the blow- BLEW MY MIND. And a way to hold on to the world and some of the characters. Are we sure that wasn’t just some genius misdirection?: “Oh here you go, here’s an amazing, shiny, DUAL POV Hugh Book, and possibly a Roman book, who fills our hearts with humor and charm every time he crosses the page, OH AND Hidden Legacy is back (btwkatedanielsisendingnobig). We couldn’t possibly be more spoiled.
Suzanne Hough says
As long as you two keep writing, it’s all good!

Problem is I have gotten obsessed with Barrabas and Roman and Ascanio. I want to know how Derek and Julie end up. I need to see Dali and Jim dealing with kittens. The thought of Hugh fighting Roland to protect Kate’s kid blows my mind. I realize there had been a long hard trek to get to the point where Kate and company can slay anything, but now they can put down an army of ghouls, maybe it’s time to let some of the other characters wreak mayhem too. I would still love to have Curran and Kate cameos, but it’s ok to let them be resting until Roman and, um, Beau need an introduction…. Also, please keep in mind that Andrea and Rafael need to keep busy so Ascanio doesn’t get bored. Do yeah, relax for a while, but don’t forget to update us on the people in Atlanta we love!
Maria says
Oh man. It’s a bittersweet feeling, not waiting for a new Kate Daniels book to be released in the summer. For the past 10 years it has been my favorite birthday present (the books are usually released within a few weeks from my birthday). Ten years!! This has been my longest relationship by far. I will actually postpone reading it until I have a weekend to myself with a tub of chocolate chip ice cream and a bottle of wine for comfort.
Darleen says
I don’t want Kate and Curran to have difficulties their whole lives. Have a HEA, but I still want to know what goes on in their lives. What raising their child is like, what happens in their HEA. I will miss them. I hope the are prominent characters in books about other characters in their world.
Victoria Rey Piuma says
Yes, as always, bittersweet. But what you are doing by writing two new series in that world, really makes me love you guys. Because I love KD and CL, but I also love post-shift Atlanta. And so many times you wonder what’s going to happen with others from the series, and now we’re actually getting that from you (squeee). That’s supercool. Can’t wait to read them all – and if you would maybe like jump ahead and tell us what kind of adventures KD&CL’s brood get into, I just want to go on record that I would not mind in the least.
Thank you for having taken us on such a wonderful journey with you guys. Congratulations on finishing your series!
Best regards,
Victoria Rey Piuma

Very anxious about the series ending, it may be months after the August release that I get up the courage to read Magic Triumphs and finish Kate and Currans story. I can only hope that the ending of the series is not the ending of the world and that Hugh and Elara and perhaps Julie and Derek will keep me emeshed in this world that I have come to love.
Kaitlyn Renaud says
I’ve been following this series since its start 10 years ago. That means I basically grew up on theses books! So sad that the series is over. I loved following Kate and her adventures. Cant wait to read future books by the duo!
Carla says
I’ve loved this series.and will miss it.it is sad.I’ve loved all your books and look forward to your new stories and, maybe, a few short story flashbacks into Kate’s world one day. 😉
Daria says
It is always hard to leave characters after following their adventures through many books, but I am not heartbroken. I prefer a series to have a clear story arc and to end with a good climax – I haven’t read the book yet, but I am sure you will deliver – rather than been left waiting forever for the next book that never comes or see a good series slowly die a cruel death because the author gets tired of their characters and world or because they drag things forever to cash the popularity their books have with their readers.
JCim says
I agree.
Brandie says
The book was amazing and though it’s sad that this part of the Kate universe is over, I am looking forward to the continuation of the other stories you almighty Author GODS have in store for us. Thank you for all the time, anxiety, love, sweat and tears you’ve poured into this series. Please give yourselves the well deserved pats on the backs. From all the Ilona Andrews fans from Vancouver Island we thank you for this wonderful series and any other you see fit to present to us!
Cat says
Okay. I’m bummed out no more Kate Adventures… Fully admit it. I totally understand about contracts and story structures and HEA. I still think it’s of Diana Galbaldons unique Outlander series though… They are happy together but are still going strong!!!
I say that they (Curran & Kate) are the not the type of characters that settle down and suddenly become regular folk…..do they deserve a HEA? Absolutely ?. Would they be bored in 5 minutes? Um yep, sorry… IMHO..
Will I miss them, and that amazing world? Yes!! Totally respect Ilona & Gordon’s artistic process and decisions… I’m just ? because this particular series is so damn good…. Hugh & Elara are the “unlikely allies” in Magic Triumphs I’ll bet a dollar (Elara scares even Roland ? Love her) plus Hugh can still make blood swords uh huh .. Hmm grasshopper you be wise magic …. So gripe over .. 3 more days to go until I get my BOOK and I’m sure I’ll love it and all will be well.
Thank you I&G and Team for all the wonderful work you’ve done. I’m very particular at this point about where I spend my book money – I’m very pleased and feel it’s well spent supporting your craft for all the hours of page turning harrowing entertainment I receive…
Plus you gave me Maud for free!! ?
Tara Tiger Brown says
I started reading this series while recovering from post concussion syndrome. I’m not sure how I found it…probably the Vaginal Fantasy book club recommended it. At the time I couldn’t read for very long because it was hard to focus and I’d get a headache and feel exhausted really quickly. There were some days that my head hurt so much I thought I was going to die. I was also very depressed and didn’t want to be around people. Kate and Curran and Derek and Andrea and Ascansio and Cuddles and even Saiman became my escape and made me laugh and sometimes cry. Especially when Kate went through her own head trauma. I’m healed now, pretty much, but I guess Kate Daniels and her band of misfits became my comfort food because when I need an escape or a pick me up, I’ll turn on my Kindle and start reading the series again or find a particular spot in the story that reminds me that no matter what, I’m not alone.
Thanks for sharing your stories and characters with us. They are a true gift.
Patricia says
I have loved this series since first I picked up Magic Bites. Kate and Curran grabbed me by the collar and flew off with me into their world from the beginning. Never has there been a book in this series that disappointed me.
Although I am a tiny bit sad that the series is ending, I am eternally grateful that it ended while I am still totally besotted with the characters. I have read many series where the story line continued even when it was obvious the authors were tired and uninspired with their characters. Not so, with the Kate and Curran series. It’s end has come while the characters are still bright and energetic and the possibilities clear on the horizon.
Thank you Ilona and Gordon for ending this series while the story line continues to sing in my heart. It is a gift very few authors allow their readers and one I am thankful for. Your generous attitude for the continued regard of your characters and books will ensure I remain a loyal reader to you both.
Gloria says
I’m not sure whether I’ll read the last one right away or hang on to it for a while. I’m sad the series is ending, but hope to see other stories of characters from the Kate Daniels world. I owned all the later books but have just purchased the first 5 (I guess I originally got these from the library) and I started re-reading them on Thursday. I want my memory fresh for the last book so will wait until I’m all caught up before I read Triumph. I love all of Ilona Andrews stories and can’t wait for the next Hugh & Elara book, along with Diamond Fire. You are an author whose books I want to own and not borrow as I can read them over and over again.
Carla says
Well it came through 11pm Australian time and I have greedily devoured it into the wee hours – wow just wow – thank you – I will go back many times to pick over the details – need to sleep now though to go to work in three hours….brain tired ….

Such an ingenious way to treat Roland. So sad series is finished but it was a worthy ending….loved it. Only one thing is now bugging me – I may be missing the obvious – WHO needs to go to Mishmar to meet his grandmother…

So. Time for bed now that I have done the first read of the end. I look forward to the adventures of Erra and Julie, Hugh and Elana and even a peek at Kate and Curran in other’s stories. We have Dali’s decision to learn, Christopher’s wing to regrow and to find out if werebears can regrow arms while pregnant. Yes, I hope for several spinoffs, hint, hint, hint. Thank you AL, safe travels this week, rest your hands as mich as you can while signing all those books. This one is a definite winner.

True, what you said about Julie and Derek.

Ditto re: Erra and Julie However I could see raising Conlan as an adventure series in itself. He already has incredible potential and character. “Rawwr rawwr rawwroo.”

I have never before commented on your blog although I am following it closely. However, now I felt that I needed to thank you for the magic that you have weaved in my life for many years. I have devoured books since my youth and the older I get, the more discerning my tastes become. I just finished Magic Triumphs and I was blown away by your writing. You were able to give us the perfect happily ever after for Kate and Curran and the gang. There were losses that made me cry, but to wrap up so many threads without at least me guessing where it exactly was leading, made my day. Thank you!

I told my husband I’m in shock, still two days later. He began looking for an open bed in the local nuthouse. I am happy for Kate, but I’m feeling so many things for so many people, I am overwhelmed right now. My response was to begin rereading everything. Thank you for introducing these people who resided in your heads and hearts with us. We appreciate it and will mourn the end, but I’m looking forward to all that will come.

Dear Ilona Andrews, for years now I’ve been an avid fan of your writing and bought all your books across all the series. For the last Kate Daniels book, I waited impatiently until this 9 am morning (as my tiny island nation in the middle of the Indian Ocean is 9 hours ahead of the US) bought my kindle copy and devoured the book in 3 hours!! I loved the series so much I thought this would be the best time to write to you both and express my deep appreciation for your work. I loved the happy-ever-after ending and I loved Hugh’s redemption. I’m glad their sibling connection has been established between Hugh and Kate and I would so love to learn more about the full extent of Conlan’s powers. Very sad this series has now ended but I am excited about and looking forward to the Iron Covenant series. Elara is the embodiment of sheer power, incisive intelligence, grace and kindness… Hugh has found a fitting match and I couldn’t be happier for both of then after everything they went through. I now wistfully hope for a mini-innkeeper-style-weekly-series on the adventures of Erra and Julie (and maybe even Hugh? That would be epic!). To be completely honest, I have tried and tried to find other authors equalling you in terms of writing talent but apart from 1 or 2 no one else can rival your level of content and depth. I absolutely love the fact that in a world where too many authors in the fantasy-romance genre go for the helpless-damsel-in-distress angle, the female characters in your books are really strong, intelligent and extremely badass women who most young women can look up to. Besides this, the series are so eventful I could easily picture them being made into a movie! (Crossing my fingers for this happening one day!). Now I really cannot wait for the next Hugh-Elara book. Waiting for snippets with bated breath. Many thanks for entertaining us and wish you all the best for all your future endeavours. Much love, B.

Someone is going to need to explain to my professor, that the reason I didn’t come to the first day of his class was because I was up until 4 am obsessively reading this book. Apparently I have no will power, I set it down 3 times to go to bed.
That was a perfect ending and perfect set up. I can’t wait to read more about Julie and Erra…hopefully that’s a thing, if not then I might start a riot.
Thanks AuthorLords! You rock, once again.

I haven’t quite finished because the email came in and I had to stop to read it and say thank you. Yes, I’ll miss Kate and Curran but it’s time for them, the authorlords, and the rest of us to move on. I hate this book! Because I know it’s the end and I’ll never get another full story about Kate again. 🙁 They absolutely deserve their HEA but I’m just feeling really selfish right now, lol. I’m going to miss them but I’m also excited about what’s to come.
Thank you so much for the world you’ve built and shared with us. It’s been an honor and pure pleasure to read your work. 🙂

I just have no words…I came across this series by chance many years ago it was a very bad moment in my life and I really needed an escape from reality so I gave it a try and well now I feel a bit hollowed this amazing series has ended. I grow up up with Kate just haven’t found my Curran yet. Thank you for creating this world, giving voice to characters that we can relate to and for sharing this story that became something precious for me. Sad but happy that’s it and hoping for glimpses of them in the future. Once more thank you!!!

Thank you so much for a wonderful series. Took the day off so I could sit and read it the day it came out, which I’ve never done before. Sad that it is ending but what a wonderful HEA for Kate & Curran. And we have other POVs in this world to look forward to with the Hugh books. And if we’re lucky maybe a Roman book in the future.

I pulled a sickie at work. Thankfully it was a quiet day… I have not pulled a sickie to get a day off work for no pressing reason before. But after waking up and seeing the book was sitting in my iBooks, I could not resist. After a few moments of regret (only after I had actually finished reading the book), I can say I am not sorry! This book was everything I was waiting for. Thank you Ilona and Gordon for these amazing characters. Everything you write is great, but Kate & Curran and their friends and family will always stay in a very special place in my heart.
Can’t wait for the spin off stories .
Patricia says
Holding off reading it. I don’t want it to be over. SIGH!! Love this series and the Hidden Legacy series. Looking forward to more books in the Iron Covenant series also. Must hold off until the weekend, sigh. 🙁
Travis says
The thought that crossed my mind when I finished was: I was kinda hoping Julie would wind up with Derek. But then I thought, maybe that was more brother and sister vibe. Then I thought, okay, so where the hell does that leave Roman? I shortly realized that Roman is a big bag of crazy possibility so I like the appeal of a story line involving him. Iron and Magic is looking like a good story line to set up and it is amazing that we fall in love with characters and want something more for them then just to be a part of the story. I was glad you brought back Saiman. To me, he seems like the character with the most potential for a story in terms of character development. Not hero, since that just doesn’t fit. More like, finally matured. A growing up story for him. But, looks like he died so guess that isn’t happening. Anywho, really looking forward to diamond fire.
RJ says
I don’t know…Magic Stars kind of ruins the idea of a brother/sister vibe there. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to find Derek just popping in and following Julie during her adventures with Erra.
Also, I feel like Saiman’s ending felt crazy realistic to me in that there are always these people that we know where we start to see change happening in them and for them and all of a sudden they’re just gone. Like it was short, but we saw some poorly masked redemption in the way he showed up in this book. Normally there’s always this exposition about his wealth and description of his lab/apartment and for the first time, he’s seeking her as team player. He comes into his own as protector.
Katey says
Thank you.
I cannot express enough how inspring Kate,Curran and the rest of the Gang is. It truly is the end of an Erra 😉
I do need to know more about Derek. I love Julie and its good for her to go off and grow..But, I need to know more about what happens to Derek and Ascaino!! I really feel like they were blips and I need more. We didnt have any fights or quips between the trouble trio this book and it kill me.
Thank you for this Journey.
Karen says
I remember being not very keen on starting this series because the synopsis gave me a vibe that reminded me of a few other established authors I tried that didn’t impress me.
I’m glad I bought the Kindle version on a whim because I devoured it within hours, then came the next book and the next and the next, and one day, Kate and her boy wonder sidekick just became real to me.
Yes, Kate has amazing powers, but the Authorlords managed to achieve that delicate balance that doesn’t turn Kate into a stereotypical overpowered uber heroine.
And I love, love, love how Julie and Derek are around, how they seem to be a great fit and especially how understated it is – will they get together? Will they not? I hope for the former but the way the Authorlords have written their stories, I would understand if they didn’t get together in the end because Kate and the people around her, like real life, are works in progress. They grow, they change or adapt to what life throws at them.
So for Julie and Derek, I know that Julie needs time to find her own path in life and Derek is, as Buffy Summers once said, like cookie dough – he’s been through a lot of suffering and he’s changed as a result but he still needs to finish baking and the day opens his eyes and realises that he is more than just the lone wolf, he’ll be a whole big yummy cookie.
That being said… I am trying to stop myself from refreshing the book list every other hour in the hopes that a new Grey Wolf sequel will be dropped XD

I got Magic Triumphs seven hours ago and i am already finished with it. I have been reading this series for years and have counted down the days for each new release. The Kate Daniels series is my all time favorite series and I am devastated that it is over. I have reread the series so many times over the years that i have it memorized. I want to thank you for all the magic you have given me through this series. I am in need of more, ie more on the end with Julie, and one can hope but i do feel this was well wrapped up but I want so much more information about Christopher and Barabas, Julie and Erra, Ghastek, more on Conlan, etc. I am sad to see this series end. It has been an amazing and magical journey. Thank you for bringing us along

Such a great book!
Question ,at the end when Erra and Julie are talking about “him” and Erras mother being his Grandmother too. Are they talking about Hugh?
RJ says
You know I wondered about that too, but I thought Curran, because undoubtedly Hugh’s been there before, but now that you mention it…Hugh makes more sense. Maybe he’s never been introduced – so to speak.

Why wouldn’t it be Conlan?

Thank you both so much. Even though it’s bittersweet to have the series end, I loved how you wrapped up Kate and Curran’s stories. You are right, they deserve a HEA. I look forward to more side-stories. An Erra and Julie one would be great! For now though, congrats on a great series and enjoy your own HEA for awhile.

Thank you. The moment I dreaded has come but I only feel peace about it. This series has seen me through divorce, deciding to move to Atlanta for graduate school, and 100 other moments big and small. Thank you for them all. I’ve read a lot of series and this one is truly the only one that held up to the standard set in my mind by Lord of the Rings decades ago. Somehow, I missed Iron and Magic coming out, so I’m looking forward to it filling some of the holes in MT.
David Kay says
I love this series more than any other I have read, and – like so many others – I mourn it’s completion (Magic Mourns?). I know that the authors have many practical and creative decisions to make about writing future books (2 kids in college at the same time?), but I want to put my money where my heart is. If publishers are too stupid to commission more books about Kate and Curran or books about Julie or Derek or Andrea, etc., I would gladly support a go-fund-me effort to finance future books. I would donate several hundred as part of an effort [a group patronage?] to fund new books and I am sure enough readers would chip in to make it financially viable. If anyone wants to start such an effort, let me know – I’ve got my credit card or Pay Pal account ready to go.

Got the book out of my library yesterday, and read more than half of it. Finished the book today and spend the remaining of my drive feeling sad. Its like saying good bye to good friends who moved across the ocean to retire. You know that they are happy, but you wish you could meet them again and find out more. I loved Hugh and Kate reunion. I look forward to finding out more about the chicken thing. I loved that Hugh rolled up pancakes like crepes. I love the Barabas Christopher proposal, I can just totally picture it in my head. It was a bittersweet awesome ride and I look forward to anything that will get published, even if its Kate and Curran grocery list. I will also bet anything that Derek will track down julie and erra
Kim says
My only sadness is that I want to spend more time in the happy ever after part of the story. I know, conflict drives story, all that, but I’d be quite happy reading page after page of our gang hanging out at a barbecue. Or eating shwarma , while a little boudagirl and toddler lion chase each other’s tail, and people tease each other, and we all bask in the happy and funny for a chapter or twelve. I’m really going to miss these characters. Hell, I miss Ascanio already.

Biggest book hangover of all time.
The AL delivered the goods on this final HEA. I am happy for their new path but sad that our adventures with the Daniels Brood are finished.
Thank you, Ilona and Gordon, for all your blood, sweat and tears. Your work is greatly appreciated. I am looking forward to whatever comes next.

I loved loved loved the books and am super sad the series is over – however I have high hopes you continue with books about Julie and Derek! Yes Julie has some learning to do but I so wish she could do it with Derek by her side.
Thank you and I cannot wait to see what’s coming next

WHOA! I didn’t see it coming. I should have, but as usual I was lost in the moment and not looking ahead. The friend who turned me onto the series, will ask what I’m currently reading and at least once a year I tell her “I’m visiting an old friend” and she knows that means Kate, Mercy or Anita. I LOVE this series. Some of the losses are kind of gut wrenching. SAIMAN!!!! aarrrghh…but thanks for making him courageous!
I’m with the others commenting. Can’t wait to see what happens with Julie and Erra. Rooting for Derek and Hugh as well…Thank you for all the years of “MAGIC”…

Goodbye, my friends,
We have gone through tough times and good. Laughed and mourned. It has been a long journey to say this goodbye. I will miss you all so much. I will visit your world whenever I’m missing you. And we be together again.
Your loyal friend.

Dear Author Lord and Lady, thank you so much for the journey. For elevating paranormal romance to a level that is hard to match. I guffawed out loud, smiled like a madwoman in my car (Renee did an amazing job as always) and of course cried. I will miss them, but it was a fitting tribute to all of them and the perfect resolution. Thank you two!! Can’t wait for spin-offs and more of Hugh and Elara.
Ever grateful for your hard work!

My husband said I stayed up pretty late last night reading. I said, it’s Ilona Andrews. I’m actually refraining from crack binge reading right now. Duh. Obviously, I was trying to avoid falling into a depression. (I have since finished the book, and am boob deep in my depression fyi) Do you know what he said to me??? He said I need professional help, that I have a reading addiction. HA! If only it were just a simple addiction. Thanks for ruining my life with your engaging, heart wrenching, perfectly funny-sad-gory-happy-violent writing. You know how to get this bibliophile’s heart beating. And now it’s over. I wish I could hate you so badly.

Thank you. Kate has been apart of my life for 11 years and while I am sad that was such a satisfying parting of ways. This series was such a wonder. The world building was amazing. The thing I loved the most was that the world was complete and yet ordinary. Your characters ran the gambit of all races and ages. Gender. Sexual orientation. And it was ordinary. Some books feel like they are hitting you over the head trying to be inclusive but the magic lay in the fact that you could describe a doctor who was also a shapeshifter. A dark pagan who was a good guy. People who would follow each other off a cliff next to best friends who kept lunch dates. And they were all well rounded characters with vastly different backgrounds just living life the best way they can. It was magical. As a black woman I don’t often see myself in the books I read unless I go to that one book shelf titled African American interest. It was beyond lovely to see Black, Asian, Indian characters along side White characters going about dealing with life in a post Shift world. Thank you for creating this world.

Hi, Are you going to release Magic Triumphs on Auidble the same as Hugh’s book? I keep looking but cannot find it.
Ramona says
Many thanks for a wonderful series. I’ve read the previous books several times and will, in time, reread this one. I have spent so much time and $$ trying to find another author with the same gift for creating fabulous female characters and breathtaking battle scenes – none comes close to what Ilona and Gordon create.

I don’t know what to say. I binge read all the previous books before I read Triumphs and I’m a little lost now. I worship at the feet of the Author Lords and I can honestly say that they are my favourite author of all time. I look forward to whatever they write next and I will buy it, not just borrow from the library, as I have to own them to be able to return to their worlds again and again. Thank you so much, Ilona Andrews.

I am so sorry it is over. This book was pretty much a series of cameos, meant to bring the many characters of the series to a stopping point. It was plot-thin with all the visitors jumping in and out. It needs a LOT of novellas to make up for the structure that was presented.

Thank you for the series. Endings are always sad. Adora dying made me cry. The ending you wrote honoured the core of who the characters are, which I am grateful for. I hope it doesn’t mean the world has to end.
I am hoping that Erra’s journey is next. She has had such sadness in her life, it seems like an unending war alongside her brother. I like that she is the next person to guide Julie.
Thank you for creating such a wonderful world and people.
