I don’t blame you for wanting a NDA to all NDAs for this one. I can just hear it now “oh come on…tell me what’s happening…. I won’t share.” Then they say to someone else “oooo! I just heard the best news”, and before anyone knows it everything is out on the internet.

Not trying to derail things, but I’m just wondering what it is exactly that beta readers do and how they end up doing it?
I presume it’s not proofreading for typos etc… More like “the cloaked figure was clearly character x. Is it meant to be that obvious?” That sort of thing? Or general comments on pacing, character relateability etc…?
And how do people become beta readers? Is there somewhere you can sign up? Or is it a get to know authors/publishers and eventually they’ll ask you kind of a deal?
If you go to “Authors seeking free betas” at https://www.goodreads.com/topic/list_group/50920-beta-reader-group, you can volunteer to beta read a novel that is in line with your reading preferences and timeline to complete. A beta reader provides feedback (with specific examples) on things like world building, plot holes, pacing, dialogue, characters, and general impression. For example, the story might be about a murder but you feel that the police reacted in a totally unrealistic manner (something you could find out just by googling). Or a story may be set in New York but it’s obvious the author never spent any time there. That sort of thing.
