Agnes kind of reminds me of Aunt B.

Hah, I hadn’t thought of that.

I found that website a couple of years ago. While these gals may not be Sydney material they have some epic stories.

Have you seen the Horrible Histories sketch about her? I actually found the sketch on Youtube – it’s only 2 minutes 30 seconds ^^

I like the Sigrid the Haughty story.

My sister sent me the book for Christmas last year and I love it!! A clear case of great minds thinking alike though, I sent her daughter ‘Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls’ for HER Christmas present (which is really for my sister as my niece is too young for it just yet).

It really is a beautiful book. I was drawn to it in the bookstore and bought it immediately because I was sure there were so many people in my family who’d enjoy it. As it turns out, I haven’t really shown it to any of them because later that day I decided the book is MINE! It’s wonderful. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have one of those built-in bookmarks. It seems like the kind of book that should just by how it looks.

Thank you! I love that site! What a fun way to learn history!

Great stories! I just kept reading through them since morning and cannot stop:-)

Loved the site! I wish they would make movies on these women though. Their stories don’t need romance. Their adventures are enough.

In case you were wondering (and even if you weren’t), Laurel Thatcher Ulrich said “Well-behaved women seldom make history.”

I loved the one about Anahit, and this one about Agnes is awesome too. I’m sorely tempted to buy the first volume of the book! Seems like my kind of read.
jewelwing says
Both awesome. The Anahit one had me in tears of laughter.

So many wonderful stories about amazing people.

At first, I didn’t realize the stories were about real women. Now that I know,
I like it all the more!

Love the Afghan Queen, I visited that country this spring how wonderful and sad at the same time.

I didn’t know about that site, thank you! Most Disney Princesses have been horribly passive individuals who sit around and wait for someone to save them. And that gets into the heads of the kids who watch those. I think Pocahontas was the first timid step (that I saw) towards portraying “the Princess” as someone not entirely docile. But Princess Fiona rocks! And so did Mulan. There may have been others after but my kids are too old to use them as an excuse to go and see a Disney film. Lol
That might actually be a good study some day. “The ebb and tide of how women are perceived in society: through the eyes of Disney”.

Unfortunately, Disney doesn’t accurately reflect society, since it’s hesitant to put forth controversial material. It took them a long time to have a black woman lead the story, although I seem to recall they had Middle Eastern characters first (Aladdin). And how long did it take them to have an overtly homosexual couple, and that was only recently, and a lot of cities/states/countries boycotted the film because of it. I’m drawing a blank on which movie it was, but it was fairly recent.
