Subterranean is releasing SMALL MAGICS in print for the serious collectors of KD. Luisa Preissler painted this awesome cover for it.
I looked at that and thought, “Maybe we should write more Kate.” This is Magic Strikes Kate, bloody and hungry. Then I remembered the fandom and came to my senses. 🙂 Readers are awesome. Fandom is scary.
The collection includes Curran POV, a couple of additional POV extras, and the short stories. For the full breakdown and to preorder click here.

The order form shows several more beautiful art pieces (https://subterraneanpress.com/small-magics). I hope they’ll be in/on the book when it arrives. Already ordered!
Sabrina says
Yes, those images are totally gorgeous too!!!
(too many exclamation marks…? Totally deserved tho!)
Geralyn says
Those two pieces will be in the book, plus one more that isn’t finished yet!

It sounds like you’ve created another gem, Geralyn. Congratulations on already selling out the expensive lettered version! May your numbered copies also quickly find loving homes.

That cover/painting is AMAZING. <3

Perfect cover. Love it.
Question for others. I can no longer read real books, even enlarged on kindle is uncomfortable after 1/2 hour or so.
(Have two top eye docs protecting my ok, out of focus sight)
Anyone else permanently left with listening to audiobooks. (Which I LOVE)?
I know goofy but now I do not own the book itself. I am not sure you can leave your audible account in your will.
I loved my books-the smells, touch, sounds. I worked in libraries when young.
Do you collect hardbacks or first paperback editions anyway? Buy to hold on to? Switch to another item?
Did you keep the books anyway?
Anyone buy or print out covers to frame? Other ideas?
Carrie says
I listen to audiobooks frequently and buy digital books, so I’m kind of in the same boat. I love actual books, but for convenience, I need digital and audio. My husband looked it up at some point and, if I remember correctly and it hasn’t changed since, discovered that digital books cannot (or aren’t supposed to) be bequeathed to anyone else. The purchaser owns them for their lifetime & that’s it.
Even so, I’m planning to get rid of most of my hardbacks & paperbacks (EXCEPT my signed first editions and a few others). I have so many, I feel the need to downsize.
MRB says
When I lost my eyesight for a few years, my friends read to me. It helps if they like the same kinds of books.
My grandfather used a machine to enlarge printed books. He still had the touch/smell/sound, but the page appeared to be two feet wide. Might be easier to read than a Kindle.
I do have a collection of books that can’t be read at all, written in a foreign language, in a dead alphabet. Old family heirlooms. To hold on to. If I lost my eyes again, I’d probably keep some of my books in hard copy, but only the ones that were the most important to me. Just holding it in my hand,… I remember. If I used audiobooks, I might print out the covers and keep them in a binder or scrapbook.
Jenni says
Aww, this blog/statement hurt. I am grateful for all you have given us in Kate’s world, but my heart lept at the words “maybe we should write more Kate”. I then felt a bit slapped down with the “readers are awesome. Fandom is scary” comment. It hurts to know that people who love your work are part of the reason you won’t be doing anymore of it (in that series). The fan-girl me wants to yell for you to get thicker skin, but the other (more intelligent and reasonable half) knows I have never been the victim of stalking, hate mail, and the other things I’m sure you deal with. /sigh. Love you both, hope you change your minds- in the mean time I’m devouring everything else you release. 😀
Ilona says
I think if I could be sequestered from the internet and only use it for research, I would probably be a lot more productive. Don’t get me wrong, internet is why we are enjoying success. But it also makes me feel like everything we write is put under a microscope.
To give you an idea, a couple of weeks ago, we published a deleted scene from Arabella’s point of view. It’s already has a page and rating on one of the readers’ sites and one of the reviews says, paraphrased, that they are getting it for free and not getting their money’s worth. This sort of thing comes with the territory, but I don’t enjoy it.
For KD, this is multiplied by 10. Every sneeze a character makes is examined and analyzed and judged. It’s difficult to write under a magnifying glass. I still might talk Gordon into it, because I love the cover. 🙂
Candy Daniels says
Awe…that sucks… people should just cool their ta-tas and just let you guys create stuff for us voracious readers!
Either way, a break isn’t a bad thing. I have to say that I love how you guys still worked in bits of Nevada and Rogan into the HL #4. It gave an awesome taste of nostalgia, while not stealing the focus and lime light away from Catalina. I really love the new book!
If you ever write a series for Julie, it would be nice to see bits of Kate and Curran like that.
Meredith says
If you have any online presence you will be criticized. I once read a horrible, nasty, unprovoked, slap down on a My Fitness Pal excercise post. Exercise for crying out loud! The anonymity of the Internet has not brought out the best in humanity, but has put on full display cruelty, ignorance, selfishness,…all the uglies. I can only imagine how hard it would be to read uglies about creative work, but surely you know you have a huge appreciative audience.
Brent says
All I heard was “we should write more Kate.” 🙂
I refuse to read reviews of my work.
I wish I could recall who it was, but a stage actor (or director, can’t remember) once said (paraphrasing), “Don’t tell me what the review says, just tell me how much space they spent on it.”
Jennifer T. says
Fandoms are the same, no matter what the subject, because they are filled with people. Disney, anime, musical theater, sports collecting…you know how there are archetypes in stories? I wish I could find it now, but I saw an “archetypes of fandom” post a long time ago.
There’s the troll, the cheerleader, the know-it-all, the self-proclaimed expert, the peacekeeper, etc.
I love the cover. This will be unpopular but write more Kate for you. Do it for fun (between contracted obligations) and don’t publish or share until/if you feel like it.
You know we would buy it in a snap, so the timeline is all in your control.
trailing wife says
Well said, Jennifer T. If you ever come across the archetypes of fandom post, please share. It sounds fascinating.
As for me, I am grateful to be a member of the Book Devouring Horde instead of a fan. Being a fan sounds exhausting and not very nice. I can’t imagine complaining about a gift like Arabella’s scene, even if it were not such a delightful bit of writing.
Please, Elana, when the fans get you down remember that the anti-fans of the BDH would happily read a grocery list if you write it — as I recall, you once ran the experiment, so we know that it’s true. 😉

Must. Have. This. The artwork is amazing!

This is how I see Kate. Perfection!!!
Tanja B. says
Omg, this is awesome! The challenging look on her face, her posture… that is how I picture Kate. That cover rocks, thank you!
Her paintings are all excellent, by the way. Maybe we can get a painting of Catalina´s wings? Please…?
Greetings from Germany 🙂
Sam says
I usually don’t care about the covers, and usually just briefly glance at them so that they don’t interfere with my mind’s image of the characters, but I have to say this particular cover looks great!
Paula DiLorenzo says
Awesome cover!
Chachic says
That is gorgeous artwork for Kate!
Cynthia E says
Looks beautiful!! For the oncoming writing stress might I suggest having two different pieces of knitting ready A s stress relievers? Something brain dead you can almost do in your sleep and something you have to focus on a bit, maybe a 5 to 7 on a 10 scale? We are wAiting happily!
gailk says
Beautiful cover . And brings back many happy days reading about Kate and her adventures .
keera says
It looks gorgeous!! I hope there are still copies left after Dorian passes. We put a stop on spending in case we get a direct hit and things get really bad.
Marie says
I read “maybe we should write more Kate” and I thought “hourra, the stupid haters won’t have the last word”. Then I read the rest of the post and wept in frustration. I am so in love with this word, please write more ! There has to be a way to automatically send to the spam folder the hate mail (I hope but have no idea if it can really be done).
Steph says
OMYGOODNESS….you had me there…like more kate…like my heart and eye balls got so big and then….the “nahh” letdown. bahahaha!!!!! Let me just say I would read anything you guys write but Kate will always hold a place in my heart!!!
Michelle says
All I have to say is;
YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSS!!!!!????????????
Ok, I’m over it????
Pat says
Love all your books and that cover looks badass.
That being said, i do think writers need to disconnect from their fans every so often. You come up with what you want to write or not write. Comments are great to see every now and then because they can sometimes give you inspiration or that extra boost you needed to type out a thousand more words but, they can also be toxic and get into your heads causing doubt to circulate. If a few people don’t like something oh well its not meant for them.
BaltimoreBookLover says
“If a few people don’t like something oh well its not meant for them.”
I agree! After Ilona blogged that she was bummed (or was it irritated? 😉 because of some negative review, I went online to try to find a negative review of IA. (Could there actually be such a thing?? I felt like I was on a unicorn hunt, lol.) What I noticed on Amazon was that a lot of the complaints in the lower-starred reviews could be categorized under “not my cup of tea” — and sometimes what the reviewer didn’t like was exactly what I did like in the story!! So it really is true, you just can’t please everybody… And for whatever reason, the House Andrews oeuvre hits all my this-is-great-can’t-stop-reading buttons! (so please keep doing what you’re doing)
P.S. Like many of you, I too had the great leap in my heart !!!!! when I read “Maybe we should write more Kate.” … and then ohhh.

Omg THIS. This is what Kate looks like in my head! It’s so amazing to finally see it on the cover <3 I'd love some more Kate stories, she'll forever be my favorite heroine of yours. Could someone please explain to me the part with readers/fandom? What happened that makes the Authors hesitant to write more of her…? I must've missed something.
Patricia Schlorke says
My copy is pre-ordered. The nice thing was the publisher sent out an e-mail in June for those who purchased the Kinsman limited edition book last year. When I saw the cover for Small Magics, I wanted to order it before the copies sold out. 🙂
It’s really awful that people sent you crap mail about the Kate series. I can understand why you finished it with Magic Triumphs. You don’t need that again.
As I’ve said before, I’ll read what you write.
Stefanie says
Wow, the cover is really beautiful! And Badass! 😉
It’s great that people love books, and to get invested in a characters and series, but why do they have to attack the author, creator of a story if they don’t like where the story is leading, a character gets killed or whatever. It’s the authors story and if they want something different, they should write their own story and don’t bitch about someone elses.
That’s bullying!
Lily says
While I would love more Kate Daniels stories, I think I prefer her to have her happily ever after, but I would love for you to write Julie’s story, that little snippet was a tease ???? so I’m hoping someday you can write it, I’m also hoping for the 2nd Iron Covenant book. Anyways, hope you will someday reconsider, I’ll keep being hopeful and waiting, even if you decide not to I’ll still wait in case you change your mind, loved Sapphire Flames by the way, thank you for all you do.
Michelle says
Ahhh! You’re a terrible tease. PLEASE, please write more Kate! I’d love to read about Julie’s adventures with Erra too. I’ve bought all your books but the KD world is by far my favorite. And is there anywhere else to get the new Curran POV? Love reading these!
Katherine says
This is my absolute favourite cover ever. It’s fabulous & perfectly represents Kate ????
Tyler says
Oh wow! I love that! That’s how I picture Kate in my head.
Lorie says
This is the best depiction of Kate Daneild I have ever seen! I LOVE this! ❤❤❤❤ As for the readers versus the fandom, I hope that you know there are infinitely more people who love you and your characters than not. I would love it if you wrote more in Kate Daniels’ world. If you don’t, that’s okay, too, because I am grateful for everything you wrote in that world and am re-reading them again for the umpteenth time. Sending you both much love, great respect and endless gratitude.
Cindy says
Please write some more Kate and Curran. They are my favorite series. I am reading the whole series again now. This is how I deal with wondering if the hurricane is going to hit us. I’m from your neck of the woods, Oklahoma, where you don’t wait days to see if a tornado is going to hit. Very stressful.
KC says
That cover is really, really awesome. It is the quintessential Kate. ????????????
As to Fandom… you’ll never please everybody. Ignore the negative nancies, naysayers, and nitpickers.
You guys write the stories you want to write, and as long as you’re selling there’s an audience obviously cheering you on.
But as a fan I’ll say this, I’ll never say no to more KD set stories, in fact I’ll enthusiastically cheer you on (especially if there’s more Roman! ????), but that entire contingent of characters has such great stories. Conlan, Julie, Andrea, Derek… I mean there’s so many characters I adore in addition to Kate and Curran. I’d be thrilled with more, period. ^_^
Back in my entertainment days, fans used to complain all the time about a certain title that was dropped (IE when would there be more). If the fans who complained had actually bought it, they’d have had more of it. One year because I’m that sort of OCD personality type at times, I actually kept a tally of all the comments we received in that regard, and if they had all bought it, heck even if just 20% of them had bought it there’d have been more.
I don’t know what it is per se about the internet but people like to tear things apart in verbiose ways, cheer things on with a far more subtle thumbs up “like”. I learned a long time ago, there are just some folks who feel entitled to your hard work for free, and want you to write it the way it is in their head, not the way you as the creators have mapped out for the story journey.
There were times we’d be doing official panels and fans would stand up and tell others not to give us money, but go to X website (an illegal piracy site) and watch it for free. ????
@Gordon and @Ilona – can I/we have some more please? ????
P.S. Pre-ordered.
Chris says
Best Kate cover EVER!
Henry says
My copy with matching number plus Christmas presents are on order. It’s that time again. Sometimes my gifts are excellent and sometimes the opposite. I know at least three of my recipients are IA Blog followers, but don’t purchase Collector’s editions. I hope the inks don’t have chromium or nightshade in them. One is very alergic.
Jean says
There’s a part of me that really wants to look like that and be like that – like Kate. Then I walk past a mirror, and oh, well, real me. Sigh.
Thank you for all of the people and worlds you create. Re-read “Alphas: Origins” recently. Had forgotten how scary it is, and what a good story it is! High speed rollercoaster!
Pete says
Thank you for saying that is Kate. For some reason I was thinking Grace, and the sword kind of clashed. The cover is Awesome.
Sandie says
Any chance we might be able to but the cover as a print. That’s a really great image.
Boohoo says
That is how i pictured kate when she first met curran and did the “hey kitty kitty” thing.
Thank you for being the writer that you are. I will always love kate because she introduced me to you. AlThough i accept that you are not going to continue writing her stories from kateverse, please know. I will still be among the first to preorder if you ever become reinspired to write again. But then, you are forever going to be in my preorder list.no matter what it is about.
Have a great day ????

Here kitty kitty is scratched on the wall !!????????????
Ellen D says
What’s scratched on the wall to her left? Geek mage first?
Patricia Schlorke says
I had to zoom in at 300% to see it. The scratch reads “Geek the mage first”. 😀
The more I look at this cover and read the comments, the better I like it.
Too bad the Wanted poster on the job board didn’t have Curran’s face on it. 😉
Stacie McC says
I LOVE that “Here kitty kitty” is scratched on the wall beside Kate! 😉
Jenette says
That cover is to die for!
Debbie says
Don’t want to scare you with more fandom but please, please consider more Kate and Curran. Love all the characters in Kate’s world!!
Also, love Julie and hope you will still write her story. ????

Gorgeous cover!
The Internet is a great tool, but the users have a lot to answer for.
Annamal says
That is so like the Kate in my head (not that your covers weren’t great, but sometimes the Kates on them seemed a little more fragile than I would expect).
I am very sorry about the fandom…
Momo says
This is great *-* love it. Already saw the placeholder for it on subterranean but the pics where missing. I shall order it and gift it to myself for Christmas.
Before I get my hopes up: all the stories have been published before right? I am a bit confused by the “additional povs”.
My fangirl heart hopes for more stories in all you universes: Kate, HD, Innkeeper. But I guess the fandom can get kinda toxic. 🙁 we are sorry that we might be part of the problem
Write the stuff you want to write, we will probably love it anyway *hehehe* already infected with IA-virus and there is no need for a cure *-*
Susan says
They are not doing innkeeper anymore? Oh sadness….
Taya says
yes they are, they just had other books to write atm
Susan says
They can take all the time they want. I think Innkeeper is their best series.
Sharon says
I don’t want the book (I have all of books in eformat and am avoiding killing trees) but I want that cover. Exactly how I saw Kate from the beginning.
artsyblacksheep says
You will be able to get them from Luisa’s website. 🙂 she sells prints of some of her book covers.
Nancy says
I agree totally on the open concept kitchen. I don’t want distractions when I’m cooking, and I’ve been known to destroy the kitchen while cooking. Also, after working all day, I would go home and collapse and even meeting friends for dinner was a lot of effort, forget hosting them.
I will buy whatever you write. My Subterranean Small Magic’s has been ordered for.a few weeks now as Subterranean sends me emails on their releases. I’m looking forward to a possible future Innkeeper hardback release from them. Unfortunately, I didn’t know about Subterranean until recently, so I missed out on the earlier publications. Thank you for your worlds and characters.
Ti Birchrose says
Yes, you need to write more Kate. ???? But I’m hoping for, say, a trilogy about Erra and Julie and how that whole thing works out. Pretty sure we already know, but we ????must????see????it????happen????. Pretty please. ????
Melissa R. says
Wow, this is a fantastic representation of Kate! My heart too leaped at the comment about writing more Kate but understand that might not happen. I love everything you two write and am happy to await your next creative endeavor????
K D says
Love the cover. I preordered as soon as it was available. I can’t wait to get it in my hands. I’ll miss Kate, but that last book was such a perfect ending. I would love more stories set in that universe though. (and the completion of the Iron trilogy, of course). Maybe something from when the magic first returns? Or whatever. I’ll read whatever you write.
Susan says
There was a Hugh trilogy. Is that canceled?
kommiesmom says
Nope. Next book comes out Christmas(?)*, I think. I have to assume the writing is mostly done as I & G are spending a lot of time on Hidden Legacy now.
There’s a list of what comes out when, probably on this site somewhere. Sorry, I haven’t been worried enough to find it.
I just buy things as soon as I can.
*If you consider it, Christmas is not that far off. (Eeek! Christmas!)

I would have preordered (I have all your books in both formats) but I live in Australia and the postage is as much as the book!????????
I’ve just renovated my home to have s butlers kitchen, so have open plan of island bench with kitchen tucked away! Totally agree with focusing on the cooking and leaving the mess for later ???? but I’ve had to get used to parenting (yelling)from the kitchen when the 4 kids are playing up!! That Mother hearing is a useful skill!

Awesome cover!
artsyblacksheep says
ah….it would be nice if there’re more Kate’s stories on the way. Readers’ opinion are more important than fandom, don’t you think? 🙂 I quit fandom, it is better to enjoy the thing you love alone. Why do I have to listen to some strangers and allow them to lecture me how I should love the things I like?
Anyway, I will keep buying your books in the future, no matter what. Have a nice day!
Lynne B says
I seriously love anything you write! Haven’t read one yet that I didn’t! So sorry you have to deal with people that just need to get over themselves. The internet is a great tool, but it certainly gives people the chance to say mean things they would probably never have the courage to say to someone’s face. I was taught when I was little that if I couldn’t say something nice, not to say anything at all. It would be nice if we could get back to that view of things. I little courtesy and kindness never hurt anyone.
Thanks again for your awesome work! I would love to be that talented! Write on, House Andrews! I will read it all!

This is exactly how a picture Kate. I agree with a previous comment that other book covers (while awesome) Kate seemed fragile. This Kate is older, no nonsense and a “try it” look to her…
Angel Mercury says
I would Love more Kate, but I also can’t wait for more Catalina. Not to mention more Dina and Maud and really I want to see Julie again~~! So really what I’m saying is I’m looking forward to your next books.
I agree with everyone else, that cover is great.
NicoleAllee says
Love this cover!
Am convinced you could write a compelling enough grocery list that I would enjoy reading it.
Have been wondering about those dragons you dreamt up and whether Egyptian mythos ever inspires.
Regardless- I enjoy reading what you are inspired to write.
Take care of you
Ray, IAGeek, Craine says
I, like everyone else here, have allof your books and wait breathlessy for each and every “Next Book”. Kate introduced me to you and I follow you like I follow only a VERY few authors. I pre-order everything and then wait, wringing my hands and shuffling from foot to foot, until the book gets released. Then I read them twice. The first to just plain read it and get lost in it and the swecond for all the little things I messed.
IA Geekdom Rules!!

Innkeeper is my favourite series, the Baylors are a close second. But I wouldn’t mind more Julie and Derek, more Hugh…
In short – whatever you chose to write, I’ll read it. 🙂

Wow, this Kate is incredible. *-*
Emily says
If you wrote the phonebook for Kate’s Atlanta, the BDH would read it.
I am also quite pleased with the cover art. Haven’t decided if I will buy the book. But let’s be honest, I probably will. LOL

I’d definitely buy a copy of that phonebook just to see what it would look like post collapse. The yellow page ads alone are sure to be interesting.

Amazing cover. It’s so gorgeous. And of course, if you are inspired to write more Kate books, I will buy them.
Next time they do a special edition have them include the Kate Daniels grocery list from your blog. I’d pay to get that in paper form.
C.D. Lewis says
The art details are fun, from the “here kitty kitty” to the dark spatter on her jeans and chest. So much fun 🙂
Kathy says
Wow wow wow – this looks incredible!!! The Kate series was the first of yours I read and is still one of my top favorite series! (Side note- both my dad and my uncle (previously both staunch “No Fantasy” folk) got hooked on this series as well.) I’ll always take whatever more Kate you offer!
Claire M says
Already pre-ordered.
Such a beautiful cover!!! And I’m another who totally sees that as Kate! Can’t wait to have it in my hands.
A says
Will it be available from other online retailers as well?
The shipping to Israel is about 65 USD so no way I can afford both the book and the shipping 🙁
Skye says
I won’t be buying the book, but would strongly considering buying some of the artwork if it became available. This artist *knows* Kate and appears to have read at least one and probably more Kate books, because is Kate in more detail than I’d dreamed. Beautiful work.
And I like that Kate’s storyline is essentially over. Time for someone else’s story. We’ll never have that early Kate again and that’s great; she’s perfect and she’ll never be perfect in exactly that way again. She’s my favorite kickass heroine ever.
Anton says
Please post links if you decide to sell the artwork. I use a kate/curran piece for a desktop and would love to have a poster size of this cover on my wall.
jo says
I loved Kate and her adventures but I think you guys ended it perfectly!! Fingers crossed julie gets some stories ????
Anton says
I wait for the day that your Kate universe is shared with the masses via a movie series like Peter did with the Tolkien series. In my eyes you two are just as good at creating a world just as magical as Tolkien ever did. It might be weird but I have read every one of your books at least 10 times and I still notice new things that make them magical to me. If there is a heaven, I hope it resembles your universes and I’m either a busy Arbitrator, a First, or a House Baylor family member. On another note, her painting of Kate is how I always pictured your description.
mimi says
Reading the comments you get this a lot but I wanted to add my support. When you feel ready please come back to Julie and Derek not only is the world extremely realistic and well thought out the characters themselves are so humanising and believable! Please take what time you need and when/ if you do feel like returning to their story you have my if not most of your reader’s complete support. Good luck with your writing and I loved both of the new books released in the Sweeper series!! Lots of love you guys!
Amy says
Stunning.
Margaret R says
That’s exactly how I always imagined how Kate would look. Lovely and strong! Personally I think you finished Kate and Curran’s story exactly as you should, I’d love to have more stories in the “universe” though. Especially the story of how Saiman faked his own death (he he – I WISH!)
Kamis says
Wow this is amazing, sadly i’m too poor for it:/
Amy says
Oh wow, Kate is stunning and looks like such a badass! I always imagined her to be less conventionally attractive in the face, and with darker skin, but this definitely works too.
I Love the little Easter egg on the wall- Luisa must be a fan.
Amy says
Dammit. This pic makes me greedy for a TV series ????????????????????
Eli says
Love Kate and her world. Would be an epic TV show, if that ever becomes a possibility.
But, after reading the Sapphire snippets, I’d really like a book full of the cases and misadventures of Arabella, Leon, Bern, and Catalina. Just the daily PI stuff. 🙂

Same, I’ve always pictured her like Gal Gadot with a bit more muscle. This illustration is pretty close to what she looks like in my head. Very cool and the artist is really talented.

I just stared at that cover for five minutes, remembering and missing Kate. That’s a great cover.

We’s scary? Blink blink? No I understand. For every 10 sane sensible and admiring fans there is one who is batsh*t crazy and ruins it for everyone. Thanks for sharing so much of yourselves with us.

I love the “Here Kitty Kitty!” On the wall above her left shoulder. A perfect detail for a spectacular cover. It’s exactly how I picture Kate. Already preordered. Can’t wait!

Beautiful cover except for the botoxed brow. Kate would not use botox.

I’m interested in pre-ordering, but it doesn’t say anywhere WHEN it will be released, and since $75 is about my entire book budget for a month, when is super important.
JWharmby says
When I ordered mine it said the expected delivery is sometime in December. It wasn’t more specific than that. I checked the card I used and the transaction says pending so it looks like it charges you at the time of purchase rather than release.
Siobhan says
Thank you! I’ll just have to hope there are some left. December is good — I can ask for a Christmas present ????

Please write more Kate.

Write what your heart tells you too. Right? But still would love a Julie book. I’m invested in all of your series. And I doubt I’m unique in that.

Cover looks good, but I really prefer the original Kate Daniel covers on the first two in the series. Magic Bites and Magic Burns. I’ve always pictured Kate as a little more exotic than the more recent covers.

Oh… DUH! I only just now realized who did the cover art…
I love Luisa’s work. I’ve played a few computer games where she was part of the art&design team and also remember her from my P&P RPG days… I think she did some stuff for the “Aventurischer Bote” a German RPG Newspaper…

Yeah, it’s on my list. I’d recommend writing more Kate Daniels. She was a hoot ! Also liked the mysteries she had to unravel – always starting with something small.
Fandom be damned – fans might not always agree, but then they can write their own damn stories. If you follow (a series of) stories by a writer you take the chance that the writer might do/write something you don’t like…too bad, deal with it !
I personally was sad to see Saiman go (perv that he was), mostly because of his norse roots…there were others too that I was sad to see die off in the series, but it was realistic. Some did, some didn’t – and I was happy about the ones that didn’t.
tl/dr: More Kat please, thank you with sugar on top
