We have fun news. If all goes well, we should have some free fiction available for you on the blog soon, hopefully before the month’s end.
We’ve received edits for Ruby Fever. They are extensive, as we expected, so Ruby Fever will be ready for the beta read in late January/ early February.
We also concurrently have this other project that we can’t discuss yet. It’s a bit labor intensive.
Due to the volume of our current professional obligations, we are going to step back from blogging. During the pandemic, so many of you sent us messages letting us know how much the blog and the community meant to you, and in response, we’ve tried to blog every weekday because it was that little bit we could do to keep everyone’s spirits up.
The pandemic has lingered but one can’t exist in a state of crisis forever. From now on, we will blogging a couple of times a week. We will still have fun content like free fiction, quizzes, and upcoming zoom chats with other authors. This doesn’t mean we are divorcing or quitting writing. It just means that after doing our best to be a cheerful spot, we are shifting back into a more professional lane. It’s time.
We’ll have more for you on the upcoming releases and other news when we get a bit more words on the page.
Lilith says
I’ve loved all your entries, Ilona. Thank you so much for the regular entries. I’ll continue to look forward to your biweekly ones.

If we don’t have a chance before – I hope you have a restful Christmas, and good luck with all the projects and resettling into the professional lane (hopefully you won’t have other people trying to cut in lane in front of you – I hate when that happens, especially if they don’t indicate!)
Ash says

Thank you for all the fun and inspiration you give us through your books and your blog, and we appreciate the need to conserve your own energy/time resources! Please know that for those of us who are healthcare providers, the pandemic isn’t winding down – but I completely agree that can’t be your problem.
Sincere thanks.
Moderator R says
Thank you for all that you do, Cheryl!
As the adaptable beings we are, pandemic reality has become our new normal. And isn’t that just sad.
Kat says
Totally agree that the pandemic is far from over. I work in healthcare in the UK and this is the worst it has ever been in the 16 years since I qualified.
This blog has provided much joy in these tough times and I am so thankful for your work.
Super important to do whatever you need to do to keep going, we all love you and will be here whenever you can.
Jazzlet says
I hope you stay safe from omicron. Please try to remember when you encounter any numpty or nasty that they are by far out weighted by those of us who are really grateful for the NHS and all those who work there. <3 <3 <3
Kat says
Thank you! The vast majority are lovely like you but there are some horrors out there.

kommiesmom says
Thanks for all the windows into your days.
We will miss the little bits of random “life experience”, but there is no reason you should have to spend the effort to blog about them. We should be big kids by this time.
Rest if you can and enjoy the holidays!
Bruce says
Love the blog, but love the books even more. If one has to be reduced, let it be the blog!
Mary Cruickshank Peed says
I like your blogging. It’s like the cream cheese frosting on the cupcake. But the professional is the cupcake and if I have to choose, I’ll take the cupcake.
Harriet says
Thank you for all the extra work you put in to make our lives easier. It was a time I could laugh when there was precious little to laugh about.

Ilona says
Mod R is not going anywhere. Have no fear, you guys make enough work responding to just 2-3 posts a week to keep her more than busy. 🙂
Kim says
Ah yeah, we’re good that way! Job security for Mod R! (JK)
Patti says
You’re both wonderfully creative, talented and in many ways even more important, you genuinely care about others. Best wishes for a ovely Christmas and New Year and may the professional endeavours be uncomplicated and fulfilling.

How the BDH becomes a ravenous horde aka how to drum up sales: “we have a project we can’t talk about”
Can’t wait for this top secret project!
Fern says
Thank you for keeping spirits up – hard to believe we’re a few weeks away from 2022. I am so grateful to House Andrews and ModeratoR for making this online community a positive space. That last Zoom was so epic. Hard to believe there was a time before ModR and their tin foil hat. I have laughed and cried so much during this crisis time. I hope that you receive ten fold the kindness you give. Happy holidays to you ????.
Moderator R says
*Hugs*
Amanda P says
I love all your blogs, I don’t get on every day due to work….. Boooo!

Hugs to all. ????

Should be “Mod R.”
Kate says
Thank you so much for your blog. During the intense isolation of the pandemic- it was such a rest to read your fun thoughts and bits about my favorite literary worlds and everyone’s reactions and comments.
I don’t think I actually realized how much I enjoyed that. Thank you.
Kat M says
Your time has been appreciated. So much. The past couple years have been rough, but there was comfort to be had here. Thank you both, and your staff, for all that you do. You are awesome.

Frances Leask says
Thank you for being a bright spot in our pandemic restricted lives. I’m amazed that through it all you managed to keep your musings up beat. What a skill. Thank you so much.
Kim says
A couple of times a month would’ve been hard. A couple of times a week? Still golden!
You absolutely were a bright spot, but it shouldn’t be an obligation. It should bring you joy, too. You never, ever let us down (despite the whiners out there, the BDH continues to grow and sing huzzahs.) Me, I’m embracing the idea that your work means more for me to devour!
Lila says
Dina and Beast? Why does it say Ep.3 in description? Is there a webtoon I have no idea about? Such a cute art. <3

Cool! Free stuff to read!! I just went back and read some of the old free stuff and enjoyed it once again. Looking forward to the new and good luck with the edits and the new project. Not to worry, we understand needing time. Blogging takes more time and attention than one thinks it will and y’all need it for other things now. The BDH will be here (probably panting for anything new, hehe) The community won’t disappear.
Yea!! Writing!! That means more fun stuff to buy and read later.
Becky says
You had me at Free Fiction.
Lyn Trewella says
Thank you so much for all your hard work on the blog. So often a high point of my day.
I look forward to future posts however often they are available. They will be worth waiting for and a lovey surprise when they pop up.

‘We also concurrently have this other project that we can’t discuss yet. It’s a bit labor intensive.’
Is Gordon going to try and change the oil on his Alfa?
Glad to see you guys getting into a rhythm again, that is a good thing!
Andrea Smith says
I’m guessing the artwork posted above is the labor intensive project. It seems to match another piece of artwork we’ve seen “style wise” recently.
Daisy says
Thank you so much for all your cheerful posts during this difficult time.
You guys stepped up and provided a real public service when so many of us were just struggling to get through the day-to-day. The energy that must have taken on top of your own stuff had to be intense- I was amazed on a daily basis. You really went above and beyond.
Imperfect as it is, we do seem to be at a new normal. I look forward to whatever the new normal looks like in this space. Thank you for providing a lovely place to visit!
Andrea Smith says
Thanks, Ilona and Gordon for the bright spot you have given us over the pandemic. It’s unbelievable that things have not leveled out by now. I hope we see a light a the end of tunnel soon and it not train lights.

Thank you, House Andrews and Moderator R, for keeping the spirits up during the crisis! I went to your blog immediately after reading the news, to bring things to balance again. Many times I even skipped the news 🙂
But the times, they a’changin. So free fiction soon, more interesting projects, and Moderator R stays – all of them fun news, indeed.
Happy and enjoy-full writing and moderating!

Thank you for all the lovely snippets, stories and tales about your pets that you sent our way via the blog. They made the sometimes crazy situation these past two years instantly lighter every time an entry appeared.
This is very much appreciated and I’m looking forward to seeing items appear as they might whenever you feel like it, however often that may be.
Your secret projects on their reveal turn out to be amazing books. So whatever it is, I’m hoping it’ll be something as fun for you, as it’ll be for us.
Hope the Ruby Fever edits go well and won’t keep you from enjoying the coming holidays.
Lynn Thompson says
Thank you, Ilona Andrews for the post. I appreciate the heads up. I have enjoyed reading your blog daily. It has made the pandemic easier to endure. However all good things come to an end eventually. May you have a wonderful holiday season and whatever.
Cece Donovan says
Understood. We ❤️ You for all you have done. I can’t imagine the time it all takes, but the BDH ultimately wants you to write! Thanks for all of the insight into the writing, editing and publishing process. It is so fascinating, something I never understood. Happy Holidays! Looking forward to Ruby Fever. Meanwhile, there’s always rereads and listening to the books on my bike!
Tiger Lily says
Thank you to House Andrews for everything you do (especially on the blog during this time of pandemic), Mod R for herding cats, and the BDH for all of the great comments I have read. It was a nice way to stay plugged in and engaged with others especially at the beginning when many of us had to withdraw from public interaction. It felt safe, uplifting and fun while also acknowledging people’s struggles.
Jazzlet says
Thank you for the ast two years. I am glad you are stepping back, I hope you find the edits of Ruby Fever easier than the initial writing, that you enjoy the secret project, and that you get some rest too!
trailing wife says
You’ve gone above and beyond for your readers with this blog, Ilona. Thank you for nurturing this refuge from the world’s craziness. The BDH can maintain the conversation, I suspect, while House Andews returns to normal patterns.
Sarah says
Thank you so much for creating a lovely space that I knew I could visit for a smile, a laugh, or just a cool bit of information about whatever was on your mind! It meant a lot and helped me get through this weird COVID time while keeping my sense of humor.
I am looking forward to whatever you tackle next, at whatever frequency works best for y’all!
Abha Dhupkar says
Hey guys,
Would really like to thank you for brightening up my (and many people’s) day with your blogs. They helped, A LOT.
And as always…will look forward to devouring your next book…..
Patricia B. says
The almost daily blog posts truly have been a bright spot these last two years. Thank you for the safe space to stay connected when it was sorely needed. You are both awesome people. Big Hug.
Also, great to know Mod R will be staying on. The tin foil hat is a legend in the making……. 🙂
Emily says
I feel like the last time we got told you weren’t going to be blogging, we got some form of update almost every day for a week…
But seriously. Take the time you need. BDH shall persevere with fewer updates!
Moderator R says
???? Hiatus taking could use a bit of work, you’re right hehe. But this is not a hiatus, just a slower pace, so it will be easier to manage.
Relin says
And easier for everyone to manage is important! Thank you for all your work House Andrews and Mod R!
AP says
Thank you House Andrews for all the extra time and attention you’ve given us – it really has been a huge help in keeping spirits up!
Mod R has been a wonderful addition to your team – thanks much to her too! Managing the BDH is a job and a half! ????

I also want to applaud you on the addition of Moderator R to Team Andrews. Her warmth and lightheartedness compliment your style beautifully.
Sara T says
Love the blog. Thanks so much for posting frequently for so long. One of the first things I check each morning. 🙂
RabidReader says
I believe that in spite of the lift your blog posts have given us, it is time to put on our grownup pants and start coping on our own. You’ve shown us the small joys and whimsy that can be found in your daily life, it’s time to start looking for those things in our own lives.
We can cope. We may be kinda whiny for a little bit, but it’s time. Thank you so much for all your help during the worst of the pandemic times.
Sarah Richardson says
Thank you so much for entertaining us fans for so long. It really has been a bright spot in my life, and I appreciate how much work it has been to keep up with the blogs on a daily basis. I will continue to enjoy the blog posts when they come out whenever that might be, and in the meantime I will reread some of your fabulous books.
Bill G says
Less blogging and more writing sounds fine to me! Yay, even!
Rufina says
Thank you so much.
I am one of those, for whom the blog and the community means a lot, and it helped me more than I could ever explain in words during the darkest times of the pandemic.
Thank you, thanks a lot.
I am looking forward to all new entries -whenever they come- and all the lovely new books 🙂
Have I mentioned already that I thank you? 🙂

Lori Clairmont says
Merry Christmas
Thank you for everything you do.
Patricia Schlorke says
I join in the BDH and say thank you for all you do. Mod R’s wrangling of the BDH is so cool, and we just absorb her into our ranks. 🙂 I hope everyone has a safe and wonderful Christmas, Hanukkah, and New Year.
For all the Hello Kitty fans (we’re looking at you Matilda), Simple Human (the ones who sell sensor pumps for handwashing and trashcans) teamed up with Hello Kitty to have a limited time Hello Kitty trashcan and sensor pump. It’s so darn stinking cute!
Sivi says
Thank you and looking forward to any of the blogs no matter when they get published. You guys have been great throughout this and I just wanted to say thank you
Michele G says
I appreciate every thing that is written on this blog. And fully understand that you need to get back on track with what is best for you.
When you want to send us an update / cat & dog pics / house Andrews shenanigans, then I personally will be delighted with that. ❤️
We will be here. Thank you.
Melissa says
So many chuckles for me from your blog posts among the other interesting items. Even when I don’t comment, please know I am smiling or growling or laughing or whatever whenever I read your blogs. Thank you to the stars and back (to paraphrase).
Hilary says
The blogs are a fun treat during the weekday that adds an extra bit of sunshine to the world. But it’s just that, an extra treat, and I will appreciate any bits and bobbles that pop up, no matter how frequent or infrequent. Much appreciation for the extra notes during the pandemic, and totally agree that while the disease remains, life does go on. Wishing you lots of holiday blessings and lots of fun writing whatever you end up writing.
As an aside… my mother’s a retired English teacher if you ever want help working on edits… I’d be happy to help and that’s only partly because I’m super excited to read anything you write! hehe
Rose says
Thank you so much for what you’ve done and continue to do!

Leslie says
Thank you for all that you do for your fans, House Andrews! Your blog posts are always a highlight to my day, but will be just as cherished when they are not as frequent because you are busy living life and writing!
Johanna J says
Thanks for everything you (House Andrews and ModR) have done. Getting our lives back on track is something positive to move toward. You all certainly deserve it. We’ll look forward to any new blog entries and stories you send our way on whatever schedule.
Wishing you a holiday and new year full of nothing but the good stuff. Hey, anything is possible. ????
Cathy says
I have loved keeping up with y’all.
Lena08 says
Thank you so much for everything you’ve done and are still doing. It has meant a great deal and it did help to keep my spirits up, and forget for a moment about what’s been going on around the world. It was a much needed break and thank you so much for helping us. I also read and reread a lot of your books and that helped too. You are such wonderful, caring and thoughtful people.
Meredith says
Please take some quiet time and worry about yourselves first. We’ll always be soooooo thirsty but you just gave us Fated Blades, which made me want to re-read Kinsmen, which made me want to re-read Edge, etc. on and on in a neverending loop.
Happiest of Decembers to you and the fam!
Sarah Richardson says
Meredith, I did the same exact thing. Finished rereading the Edge, and thought, “is it too soon to reread Hidden Legacy?” Maybe I’ll wait a few months so I have time to forget my favorite bits.
SuperJD says
Good with me, I love any posts you care to share but I’ve never expected anything. Above all, have fun!
Becky says
It is amusing that you had to specify that you are not divorcing or quitting writing just because you aren’t posting everyday. 🙂
Moderator R says
You would be surprised at the messages with speculation on House Andrews’ personal lives. Not only do these break the social norm boundaries, they have a degree of familiarity and frankly callousness that is outraging.
And the “you’re not working together because you’re divorcing and that’s why Ruby Fever is delayed” is chief amongst them.
Patricia Schlorke says
Whoa! Uh?! Those who think and say that are rude and inconsiderate. To comment on someone’s personal life like that, I have no words. ????♀️
jewelwing says
O_O To paraphrase someone or other, my ability to even has been severely compromised.
*Yes, I do know whom I’m paraphrasing.
Dirk says
I bet this has been answered before – but how could one become a beta reader?
I’m sure there are only about 2 million volunteers to do this, so I assume I’ll get an immediate response to this request /sarcasm 🙂
Moderator R says
Hey Dirk,
I don’t know if you mean in general or specifically a beta reader for House Andrews books, but I’ll address the specific: usually there is a call for Beta readers on the blog with self published books. For example, see here from 2019 https://ilona-andrews.com/2019/sweep-of-the-blade-beta-read/
There may be some expertise requirements, depending on the topic, but not necessarily. A note that beta readers are different from proofreaders, editors, experts, ARC readers etc. There are examples here that illustrate some of the differences https://ilona-andrews.com/2021/edits-and-more-edits/ and here for general requirements https://ilona-andrews.com/2021/questions-on-writing-part-1/
This type of call happens for traditional published books, too, but the process there is more out of the hands of the author and sometimes the beta readers are already lined up for them.
So keep an eye on the blog, in short ????.
Allison says
I have loved the Blog from the time I discovered it. You all (House Andrews, Moderator and kids) are awesome. I will still be eternally grateful for a weekly, semi-weekly or bi-weekly post of your wonderful posts.
Happy Holidays to all of you.
Graziella says
As with other comments – grateful for all your postings & if it needs to be less frequent, so be it. Look forward to the Christmas gift of free fiction (you spoil us, not that im refusing…!).
If we don’t hear from you before Christmas, wish you & your family a very good Christmas & rest as you need.

Hey Graziella,
There will definitely posts before Christmas, it’s just a slower pace of a couple of times a week, not a hiatus! 🙂
Sharon says
Thank you for all the pandemic blogging. It has been wonderful.
Have fun in the writing cave and I look forward to RF when it comes out and whatever free fiction you manage amongst the stuff that puts food on the table.
Compliments of the Festive Season to Gordon, Ilona, Mod R and K1 and K2.
Regards, Sharon

Renewal and refocusing is the fuel for dreams! And I am addicted to your version of spice…. Lol also, I want to thank all of the BDH for their empathic, supportive, humorous support of your fellow hordlings. I don’t have room in my life for mean, and being here is a safe zone on rough days❤️ Thank you, all of you, and Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays/blessings to you. ????

Hi, from Melbourne Australia. I discovered your blog last year and I absolutely love all the everyday snippets that you post. It has definitely been nice to know that my gorgeous cat is not the only crazy pet out there. Enjoy your Christmas:).

I can’t not read “It’s time” without reading it as Rafiki. I don’t know why my brain is like this.
Kat in NJ says
Danielle, I thought it was just me: I did the same thing! Too much Lion King?!! ????
Emily says
This window into your world is amazing, as are all of you! Thank you so much for being so accessable and dedicated to your fans!!! I can’t wait to see what comes next, but take care of yourselves first! Happy Holidays!!!
Kat in NJ says
Your writing is always happily read, whether it shows up via the blog, short stories, books, etc. (and no matter how often it appears!) Some may grumble at the prospect of fewer blog entries, but ignore those people…and know how much the rest of us love and appreciate you! Thank you, thank you, thank you! ????
Susi says
Thank you for being a cheerful spot! All the best with the edits, secret project and freeeee fiction – yay!

My phone died just as I entered a comment so please forgive if it’s a duplicate.
Wonderful news that free fiction is coming and the blog entries are a gift and very much appreciated!!
As to RF soon needing volunteer beta readers- my hand is up and waving madly???? I will keep a look out for when you send the request

Thank you for carrying on as long as you did! The blog is always a bright spot in my day, but honestly, having to wait a few days just ratchets up the anticipation, and the delight when a new post comes through. I worry about you working too hard (yes, I know it’s ridiculous and you have your lives well in hand. I worry a little anyway) and knowing that you are stepping back from the blog makes me feel better.

Many thanks to House Andrews and Mod R for all you did to lift our spirits during the pandemic. It was much appreciated and helped a great deal!

Since you are changing the rhythm of life, it’s a good moment to say ‘Thank you for all the effort you made during the pandemic’. It was a bright place in a dim world.

Thank you both for being a source of entertainment and humor fir us during a VERY difficult time! You are good folks and we do appreciate all you do for us. Have a safe, healthy and happy Christmas and I hope Santa brings you EVERYTHING you want because you have been VERY good this year! 🙂

Thank you! For all the blogging that you have been doing. My husband had to actually go to the office for work yesterday and as I was walking him out I mentioned how it felt like old times. Good luck with the upcoming obligations.
Annie says
I wondered how you kept up with daily blogging with your schedule. I’ll take whatever you offer and be very happy with it. I do have a question…received notice that Ruby Fever is available pre-order on Kindle. Will all your future books only be on Kindle? I’m sure you’ve discussed this but I honestly can’t remember…sorry. Being a Nook owner, I’m used to all my books being in one library and am having trouble remembering I need to go to 2 libraries now. Thank you!
Moderator R says
Hi Annie,
Ruby Fever will be available at all the usual retailers, not just Amazon. We’re aware that Nook preorder doesn’t show up yet and we are working to solve it.
Thank you for your patience ????
Patricia Schlorke says
Thank you for the update for the Nook pre-order. 🙂

Thank you so much for all your blogging over the last two years! Glad that you are stepping back. And thanks, Mod R, for your cheery presence!

“This doesn’t mean we are divorcing or quitting writing.”
So sad that you had to clarify that. Must be some unpleasant experience with panicked fans behind that.
On another note, isn’t that just the Catch-22 of fans? If you don’t have them, your work is a bit pointless; if you do, you start feeling obligated to keep delivering. Either way, self-care is most important. Blog as much or little as you want, we are not your bosses!
FBR says
Thank you for being a bright spot for all of us.

I love IA fiction, be it free or paid 😉
Speaking about Free Fiction, I stumbled upon a dead link to the beginning of Hugh 2 on the book order page. Weak Sauce.
This link is also mentioned in the blog post of Aug 13,2021.
That link is dead as well.
Has Weak Sauce been pulled or has it simply been moved to another location and I just haven’t been able to find it?
TIA
Ilona says
It’s been pulled because we locked all snippet posts.
Jessica says
I’m really looking forward to seeing the webcomic version of Innkeeper.
Jackie Bowser says
Thanks so much for all your blogging. Totally understandable you are stepping back to a sustainable frequency that give you the time to work on all your awesome projects. Love you both! And Mod R.
Gabrielle Roberts says
I honestly and sincerely check the blog to stay up to date on book releases and to make sure that your family unit is still hanging in there. Through the blog I’ve become invested in the health and success of house Andrews.
Thank you for sharing part of your lives and creative process with your fans.
Please know I see your post as a bonus, and not as an entitlement ❤
Jen says
There were many wonders hidden in this horrible pandemic, and the joys of joining the BDH was one of them! Thank you for creating a safe and warm on line community and a place to go that always cheered me up. I am now ready for the world again in for whatever House Andrews would like to propose!
