This Kingdom Has a Voice

Blog, Maggie POST A COMMENT February 18, 2026 by Ilona

And that voice is Kristen Sieh.

Audiobooks are, by nature, transformative. It is very rare when the author and the audio performer’s vision perfectly aligns. When you listen to your own book on audio, there are always little things that jar you out of the experience. A line that is spoken with the wrong emphasis. A rhythm that is just slightly off from how it should sound in your head.

Kristen Sieh is spot on. She is utterly amazing. This book has a massive cast. So many people, and she embodies them all.

She was kind enough to record some previews for us, and I have links for you. You can view the video on your social networks or below.

Will this eventually get the Graphic Audio treatment as well? I need to know how many versions to budget for. 😆

      • Moderator R says

        February 18, 2026 at 2:35 pm

Graphic Audio approach authors for adaptation rights, not the other way around 🙂. So this is a question best asked of them.
Atm, I have no official news about it.

          February 18, 2026 at 3:32 pm

This is well noted!!! They will be approach alright!

I am happy – I still prefer your versions, with narrators you picked, over the GA ones. but it won’t et me listen to the auddo files – I keep getting gray boxes saying the audio file is corrupt.

    Audible is offering two versions:

    Macmillian Audio on March 31st, 21:34 h
    Tor on April 2nd, 21:33 h

Is there any difference (apart from the publication date and the one minute?)

    • Moderator R says

      February 18, 2026 at 2:57 pm

Hi Zirella, are you in Europe?

You are seeing both the US and U.K. publisher editions 🙂

      • Zirraella says

        February 18, 2026 at 10:39 pm

Hi Mod R, yes, I am in Europe.
Did Kristen Sieh have to read the UK version with a British accent and different British vocabulary (football/soccer, truck/lorry, chips/crisps)? Then I’ll have to wait for the US version…

        • Moderator R says

          February 18, 2026 at 10:58 pm

No, the books is not adapted for the British edition. Maggie is American, it would not make sense for her to speak in Britishisms.

There are many accents in the book, however, including British ones 🙂

          • Zirraella says

            February 19, 2026 at 7:37 am

Thanks, Mod R, for the fast reply! Already preordered! Probably won’t have the time to listen until the weekend, but having the precious is better than having to wa*t for the precious. So Macmillian version it is 😁.

This is so exciting!! I have a ritual with Ilona Andrews books: new releases get a print/eBook read first, then the audiobook (usually on repeat 😄). I’ve already preordered both and can’t wait to dive in!

This Kingdom isn’t even out yet and I already want it to be a movie in the Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter style (where the movie is a fairly faithful adaptation of the book) just so Henry Cavill can play Solentine.

Ooooh, I can’t wait for the book! I probably won’t listen to an audio version as I prefer to read but it sound awesome! I might just be tempted enough to try it, a little over a month left. Somehow it’s even worse than when it was a year, now it’s SO CLOSE, I can almost see myself getting it and starting reading.

It’s like you planted a seed, watered it, fertilised it, sang to it and now we all get to watch it grow!

I can’t wait to finish reading this novel. Kristen is now the voice in my head for it. She’s a perfect fit! Well done!

  25. Ally says

    February 19, 2026 at 6:52 am

I like her voice and think it’s a great fit!

I have never liked audio books and much prefer regular reading. I am just not an auditory learner – I have to see it – and the same is true of reading.

But I have decided to read This Kingdom once with my eyes and once as a tandem read. I didn’t know tandem reads were a thing. You listen to the audio book and have a physical or ebook to follow along. I am intrigued. I pre-ordered the ebook and placed the audio book on hold at my library.

All the kudos to Kristen and IA because I decided This Kingdom will be my first attempt! Made the decision because I am sure I will read it twice and I really enjoyed Kristen’s voice 🙂

  27. Megan says

    February 19, 2026 at 7:17 am

I normally do not like audio books, podcasts, or guided meditations, as the voice transitions between characters and emphasis are just not right. But I like her voice a lot. I may have to get the audio book.

  28. Melissa says

    February 19, 2026 at 7:35 am

Thank you so much House Andrews for picking such an excellent narrator! I am off to pre-order the audio right after I contact GraphicAudio to ask them to do Maggie – actually, I will ask for “This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me.”

    • Régie says

      February 19, 2026 at 9:09 am

      Hi Melissa,

I contacted them on Reddit. They have a sub page and are very responsive… They said “ What a great suggestion”
What they should say is: “ on our way to request adaptation rights” lol

If they feel the might of the Horde, this will happen 😉

        February 19, 2026 at 9:13 am

Hi guys, so GA usually allows time for the regular audiobook sales. They don’t want to intrude on that. We are excited for the GA to adapt this title, but it will be likely later. 🙂

My laptop is showing me black rectangles with a bar across the play button. Going to the YouTube link shows me what is probably the first video, where Kristen introduces herself and reads about Maggie wanting to go home. After that it’s random dog videos, some totally worth watching (Dog In Winter is a winner). I can’t figure out how to get to the second Maggie video. Not an existential problem, of course.

    • Moderator R says

      February 19, 2026 at 11:24 am

Please clear your cache 🙂 Both of the videos play on the blog.

      • jewelwing says

        February 19, 2026 at 12:09 pm

I searched how to do that. It was easy to clear the YT cache on my iPhone. However I read this on my MacBook. After following the instructions in the article all the way through clicking “Empty Cache” – and just finding that sucker was quite the process – the same bar still guards the play button, and the button still doesn’t work. However, it’s also still a First World problem, so no worries. Off to deal with RL!

That IS the perfect voice based on the preview release I devoured when it came out. I rarely buy audio books these days, preferring the quiet of reading, but I’ll be picking it up in both formats this time. Congrats on finding an excellent narrator that fits your vision so well.

Well done Ms. Sieh – welcome to the hoard.

I love her voice. Now I’m hoping she’ll be the main character and narrator for the eventual graphic audio production…

  37. Olivia says

    February 19, 2026 at 8:22 pm

As a blind adult who used to be a blind child, I can attest from the reader’s point of view that a narrator can make or break a book. The wrong narrator can leave you feeling like something was lacking even if the book itself was well crafted. The right narrator can make magic.
There are scenes of books I remember perfectly, down to where I was when I heard this particular scene. I can remember every intonation of the narrator’s voice, it can be that impactful. I have a feeling this will be one of those.

Yay for audio!. I already have a movie going in my head about whatever I’m reading. Audio makes this easy. I know, sometimes I am taken out of the story momentarily when they use prone or supine improperly, when the accent is on the wrong syllable and it’s a very common word and you know they are not reading like they are paying attention to what they are saying. It’s human though I guess. I just jump back in.
