On Amazon, the publisher of this audio is W.H.B. Their listings are public domain books and probably stolen titles.
This is not a legitimate listing. It is fraudulent. Your money is going to a pirate. The recording is of bad quality and sounds like it might be read by an AI. If you got scammed, I strongly urge you to return your copies for a refund. We will try to get refunds for you when we get this taken down, but I don’t know how long it will take. This is a really tense moment, because we really don’t want you to be taken advantage of and we are trying our best.
BDH, we need your help. Please report these listings are fraudulent on Amazon and Audible when requesting your refund. Please help us get this taken down.

I think it has already been taken down. The link was broken. I had the same thing happen to one of my books, and when we got it pulled, the link broke.

Some jerk claimed to have written one of my books when my publisher retired last year. He also claimed a bunch of Harlequins. Harlequin was NOT amused. Guy lived in another country. It was word for word the same. I and all my fans raised holy hell, but it was Harlequin that took care of the creep.
it’s just nasty that this has happened to one of your audiobooks. But thank you for the heads-up on Audible/Small Magics. I had it in my wish list and was pretty close to purchasing it. I am a little sad, as I was very excited when it appeared. I’ve been hoping for it to be recorded for over a year. But piracy isn’t the way to go here. At all!
The pirated copy of Small Magics audiobook has been taken down from both Amazon and Audible. 🙂

I downloaded a copy of it before you posted this. I was wondering why there was a new voice who was being used when your current narrators as so excellent. The good news is I used one of my monthly credits which are starting to pile up. So time to contact Audible and get my credit back.
After I read this I went to Amazon, looked up customer service, and finally connected with a live person. I reported the fraudulent link, sent them the link to the blog post, and looked at the “correct” link they sent to me for the audiobook. I showed them the information that proved the link was to a fraudulent product and the person I spoke with contacted their supervisor. They thanked me for reporting it and sent a follow-up message to let me know that they had given me an Audible credit for taking the time to report it. They must have been inundated with reports yesterday, because when I checked today, it was taken down from Amazon. BDH for the win.
How do we make sure we have the right version? I ordered it and I have no idea if it is the correct one. And now it isn’t even listed on Amazon or Audible
There is no “correct” version. Small Magics does not have a legitimate audiobook format.
If you purchased an audiobook of it, it is the pirated one- please head to your Audible orders list and get a refund 🙂.
Wow, I don’t understand how Audible could let that happen. I wasn’t able to return the book online because I had paid cash for it. I called them and they refunded me without any issue. I was on the phone less than two minutes. I’m so sad, I thought this was a bonus surprise from you two. I had received a New from Ilona Andrews email from Audible with your picture on it and immediately purchased it. What an elaborate fraud! Now I’m wondering if the narrator’s name was also fraudulant? She or at least her name is attached to 8 other titles. I’m so sorry this happened to you.
Sadly with AI I think this is going to be more and more prevalent… luckily I don’t like audio recordings of books…
FYI for anyone else who purchased the audiobook from Audible. Their policy is to not offer refunds unless you purchase with a credit but I paid by credit card because the book was cheaper than my credits ~ which should have been warning sign. I contacted the chat tech support and after explaining (twice) that they sold me a pirated they did give me a credit.
Oh my god!! I bought one! Thanks for sending this; I can’t believe they would let them list an audiobook and not confirm with the author or their agent!

This is outrageous I’m so sorry it must be causing you all massive stress. Sending hugs to you and hope it’s resolved soon
ugh and Audible was having thier site wide sale and I just bought a ton of books I hope I didn’t buy this accidentally. Amazon let’s a lot of fakes through on all sorts of items. even though they could improve thier processes they have decided not to.
As an aside, I came across Fated Blades (book) on Apple Books a little while after it was released. I almost purchased it, but didn’t recognize the other name on the copy right (I think it was Chris something). Also I remember you saying it was a Kindle only release. I meant to send in an email, but got distracted by life… This post just reminded me of it. I checked again and it’s not there anymore. Glad this one was taken down quickly!
I downloaded the book before I got the news. Listening to it, I kept wondering why you would use that narrator. This recording was not even close to your usual quality. Audible/Amazon immediately refunded my payment.
I hope this awful experience won’t stop you from publishing the real thing in the future.
