The Tor UK cover for This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me (Maggie the Undying, Book 1) has officially pivoted its artistic leaning.
Behold the transformation, from the previous texture emphasis on the left into the more atmospheric, midnight reverie new edit on the right.

It’s just that there are so many surprises about our Maggie — special editions, appearances, novella-sized extended previews at the end of January and so on — that I lose track of how many secrets I am keeping sometimes! There’s a joke in there somewhere, but I’m too busy admiring the fab sprayed edges.
As Ilona explained previously, the UK market overall tends to respond more strongly to a grittier, mood-forward sensibility, hence the darker edges, deeper tones, and now the more nocturnal and introspective tonal nudge. I’m not sure how representative my own preferences are of the wider audience, but the new version makes me think of van Gogh’s Starry Night, with the hypnotic/dreamlike quality which is perfect for Maggie’s immersive story.

It looks like the new cover is a painting copy of the original painting, but done a century later with smoother techniques. Still very pretty though.
I love the UK cover! I know it’s what’s on the inside that counts and all that, but I still vastly prefer the UK cover over the US one.

Ok hear me out…we organize a trip to the UK for the BDH and we stop at a lovely bookstore and buy out all the copies.
looks like the Aussies have the same cover as the UK, wondering if the EU covers will be the same…. BDH members from around the world can do a tour…especially if the Author lords might be convinced to take part, traveling to the countries it’s safe for different members to visit if HA were to tour multiple counties 😍
but i fear that touring at that level may be hard time wise and stress wise for HA, so I may have to scale back my imaginings of a world wide BDH retinue of fans travelling along behind them (if only transporters were a think of reality).

But when I went to Amazon Australia, it was showing the local edition as a paperback, due on 31 March 2026, same date as the US/UK hard covers. Is that correct?

OK, yes, the UK cover is prettier than the US cover and those sprayed edges are beautiful. However, you can’t change the font size on a physical book, be able to read it if you’re stuck in line at the grocery store and you need a dedicated room if you have over 1000 books – ask me how I know. Still, I do wish my Fire came with those sprayed edges….

Is there any chance that the Kate Daniels books will have a UK updated cover? I cannot tell you how bad they are from a UK perspective. I’m a librarian, love kd will always get the books but really hard to recommend them as the covers signal a very lower quality romance romance book. Sorry. 😞

I love this!! Hadn’t preordered a copy before because I loved the slightly grittier look of the UK copy but preferred the sprayed edges of the US one. Problem solved! So far this is my favourite version . Blackwells here I come 😀
Good thing I’m in the U.S., heheh, because I love the U.S. cover. So tired of black and brooding covers. It’s fun to see the differences, though. I’ll be honest; I’m not super-excited about Maggie, but the pretty U.S. cover entices me to read it.
*(ducks at howls of outrage from the Horde)* Fret not, I have tree dandruff copies of almost everything else HA has written in an era where I’ve mostly switched to library books and ebooks. I need my brother to hurry up and make his holiday-ish visit so that he can give me my copy of _The Inheritance_ already. Tree dandruff books are my most precious.

I preorderd very soon, when I read about the sprayed Edges. They often are only in the first Edition.
But I preorderd on Amazon. Amazon shows now 2 UK editions. They are called „Main market“ and „Open Market – International Sales Exclusive“. The second one shows the sprayed edges.
Now I don‘t know which I will get, because Amazon does Not Show an ISBN for my Order.

It will not be a British English version, no. Maggie is American and the book is in first person.
I’m in the US and I want the UK version. I like the mood forward, grittier version, please. Where I live, we don’t have UK weather, but I wish we did- one day, I will live in Invernessshire or Glenco. In the meantime I would love a moody book cover.

So the US version will be the one on the left? I actually love those comparison pix where you notice the 10 differences, like how the bird(?) head is slightly lower on the right, and the tower is shifted to the edge, the darker sky. Will we get the beautiful painted page edges in the US?

The US copy will have sprayed edges, but not the same ones, no.
Copies with signed or stamped signature sheets will be the special edition boxes, which I cannot yet give details about 🙂

I preordered from Amazon as soon as it went on sale but if that won’t be the sprayed edge edition I need to change my order to whatever retailer required. It’s such a pretty book & I NEED it lol
