By popular demand – I wonder if other authors get so many demands, heh – here is the Cast of Characters. This is a basic version. You will have to wait until Maggie’s site, the app, or the Companion to Kair Toren, for the images version.
This thing is hyperlinked and should be spoiler free. Not every character is included. Some are meant to be discovered and others are too minor to mention.
Blanket permission to print and share on socials.

Very helpful thank you!
But… am I blind or is Silveren missing?
From the article 🙂 :
“This thing is hyperlinked and should be spoiler free.“
No, he’s always there. In the shadows, in disguise, but always present.
“Only the Shadow knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men”…
It’s the Invisible Man until he’s not quite so invisible anymore. 😉
🤣
maybe Silveren is Latour 😉
He is creeping in the shadows as usual 😀
La alegría que siento cuando mis booktoker favoritos de estados unidos hablan sobre uds sin que sea colaboración me hace chillar de alegría. Ya he visto a muchos en tik tok hablar de éste libro.
first???
Dawn it – too slow! 🤷♀️🙂
Thank you so much for this….very helpful!!
Woop Woop! Always a pleasure to read more
So cool!!!! Thank you! You guys are amazing. Sorry we are so demanding. Wait. Fluffy! I meant chalant and fluffy! 🙂
Hope you are getting some downtime to rest and relax. Probably not, but I’ll keep hoping.
But just in case they are, on behalf of the Book Demanding Horde: “Yes, yes, TKWNKM was very nice to read and to listen to on Audible, and it sounds like you did an amazing amount of work on the tour … but what have You Guys done for Us *lately*???
Whine is the Companion Art Book/ the Graphic Audio adaptation /Maggie 2/ Hugh 2/ Metal Rose 2/ the next Innkeeper/ the further stories of Arabella / etc etc etc coming out???”
Btw — “whine” is NOT a typo in that…
+100
Sometimes I wonder if we should be more fluffy, and then I reload the webpage 10x day.
Thank you for feeding your loving horde.
Thank you! 😁
Thanks for this list!
Yay thank you! This is so much better than my notes doc!
Thank you!! This is great. Also, just a note that I love the map in the book. I am really glad to have a hard cover to pore over. It’s really such a thing of beauty. This list is a nice complement!
I love the map too. 🙂 I printed it out on large paper, am coloring parts of it and will start annotating with information on my second re-read.
+1 — I printed the map, too, and diligently marked each location Maggie went during the book. Thank you for proving it for us. Team Facts Are King!
Providing it for us. Typos — sigh.
lol, I would totally be doing this if I had the technology. Quite possibly multiple copies, for different features.
And if HA ever gets around to doing more maps, some of us would clearly be here for it. As it is, we’re peering desperately at the east and west sides of the continental map, hoping to spy whatever lies outside the margins.
Wait wait wait. Where’s the printable map?!
There’s an extended map image here 🙂 https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/this-kingdom-preview-art-maps-and-questions/
I was going to do this myself when I re-read the book. Thank you for writing it all down in one place!
Thank you so much! Worth staying up after midnight for this.
Thank you! Are we allowed to print and place in our books? Because my notes are all over the place. I was listening to audio at work, reading the deadtree in the afternoon at my kids after school practice and the ebook before bed.
One nicely written out log would do wonders for my brain.
Printing for self use is fine 🙂
I’m gonna print this out for my book club. Thank you, thank you thank you
This is fantastic! Thank you for sharing. I had a note sheet started but this is so much better.
Thank you. I had startef listing the charavters, but the desciptions are so helpful.
We are so spolit.
Wonderful! Thank you!!
Is this really spoiler free?
Maggie’s last name doesn’t happen until chapter 29.
::slaps hand over twitching eye:: Thank you, I edited it.
lol, I wasn’t going to ask; just figured maybe it wasn’t a big enough spoiler to rate? It was still there just now, on clicking the This Kingdom Cast of Characters button at left (not the download one).
When I first read it (after Ilona’s comment saying she’d edited Maggie’s last name out), Maggie had no listed last name. Now it shows Maggie the Undying(Maggie’s official full name). Is this on purpose or a bug? I see the same for Maggie’s listing regardless of how I get there.
Mod. R, feel free to delete if this is not helpful.
It’s on purpose 🙂
Just wanted to flag that the *spoiler* last name is still appearing in the doc when using both the link and the download button 🙂
Umm, surely the name of the ten year old princess whom we haven’t seen or heard of in this book is more of a spoiler than Maggie’s mostly unused last name;P
No, not really, the princess’ name doesn’t reveal any kind of plot points from the book 🙂
Hmm, I’d thought that the fact that there is a princess at all might be interesting in the future. Also I had assumed that the revealed name was the original Earth name, but if it was the Rellas family name, well, ok, it was a spoiler;)
oh I just randomly thought to check the blog and there’s a post. yippee as I was so late to the last one!
Just finished reading this. thank you so much for sharing this. the horde thanks you for this meal 😁
My birthday was March 31st. This was the perfect gift to myself. I just finished the book. Absolutely, riveting. I couldn’t put it down. Love it. Can’t wait for the sequel
It wasn’t until reading this that I realized the Sun Margrave isn’t from one of the 8 Great Families. That’s interesting…
Good point! But then, in medieval Europe, smart and long-lived monarchs generally ensured that their top royal officials were “monarch-made men” raised by royal favour from comparative obscurity. They owed their status, wealth and position to the monarch rather than to long-standing family lands and power — and were well aware that they could lose it all again just as quickly if the monarch became displeased with them. Sheer self-interest dictated that they were loyal to the monarch and his best interests rather than to the competing concerns of one of the great noble houses.
Although it isn’t mentioned, I expect in Rellas, the heads of the other six Chambers — and especially the Treasury — are similarly NOT members of the Eight Great Families.
I thought about that too when reading. I wondered if maybe the position is so important, that it trumps the family house? Like the Pope changing his name? He’s now the Sun Margrave and must serve all of Rellas. Just a thought. 🤷♀️
Thank you so much!!! As an audio listener, this is so needed by me.
Didn’t realize there was a Savaric Princess – did I miss that in the book somewhere?? Or is it in Maggie 2? 😉
No, that has not been revealed on the page yet 😀 I say that as a Maggie-like fan with four rereads under my belt. Too young to be a contender for the throne, though
Thank you! Best novel ever.
Oh this is so helpful! Thank you!
Oh this is awesome. Thanks! The Horde is spoiled with the goodies.
Also looking forward (fluffing and p@tiently) to the one with images. The pics so far have been AMAZING.
I’m thinking maybe we should be the Book Demanding Horde… Thanks, Mod R, for all you do for us!
I had no hand in this one, it’s all Ilona 🙂
Wonderful and thank you. I was about to put pen to paper to make my own list. Now I can use yours to make notes. squee
Thank you!
Thank you.
Thank you Ilona! These are great descriptions and so helpful!
Yes we try our best to stay chalant and you spoil us with so many goodies, it’s hard not to ask for more. You are so good to your very loyal and loving BDH!
Thanks for this!
There r only 6 great houses listed. I wonder if we r allowed to know who the other 2 great houses r? It would b helpful to have them all listed in one place.
What an amazing world y’all have created!
The other two are mentioned once in Chapter 10: the Jals and the Graives. They don’t get much play in this first book because they are non-martial families: the Jals produce grain and the Graives build roads and castles.
This is just the basic list of useful main players, as Ilona explained in the article. The other two families are named in the book, but they do not play a prominent part in the first part of the story 🙂
Thank you!!! Exactly what I needed! You’re all very kind.
oh thank the lord. I was slowing down to build this because the world is so rich and the premise means everyone already knows who everyone is. LOL. YAY!
I wonder when we will meet Ramond’s aunt… Will Maggie make a trip to Selva in book 2? 😀
Thank you! This is so helpful! 😀
Also, this is going to bother me, so I thought I’d ask. Is it Ray-mond or Ruh-mond?
OMGOSH, so good! I can write in the margins! Thank you! 😊
This is awesome, thank you! The care you show for us readers is only one of the many, many, MANY reasons you are by far my favorite authors!
And can I just add: it took me a while to finish reading (life just gets in the way of more important things like my reading habits!) so I have been avoiding the blog. (I didn’t want to be tempted to read spoilers and I know I can’t stop myself sometimes!) 😂 Now that I’m done reading, I need to tell you this book is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!
I had very high expectations for This Kingdom (and with any other authors I would have probably braced myself for a let-down due to my impossible hopes), but I know you guys never disappoint…and you certainly didn’t!!! This book far exceeded what I expected!
The world building was so complete I actually found myself next to Maggie so many times! The characters were my favorite part: they were so real I wanted to reach out and give a character a big hug/smack in the head/high5/punch (or worse!) so many times during the reading (sometimes to the same character!) 😂 They are all so real…so completely defined. Just amazing…
Thank you for the wonderful gift of this guide and the book…I’m on my second read and this guide will no doubt help me catch things that I missed.
I know you had to jump right in and work on Maggie 2, but be sure to take time for yourselves. Celebrate, relax, recharge, and above all enjoy, and know how much your fans love you and appreciate your work!!! 💕💕💕
I think I’m learning something new, like there is a princess???
Loved thr great families colors!!!!
Thank you so much for this! Not going to lie, the world-building and back-stories have been a little overwhelming and this has really helped me keep up with it all.
gordon lol
Thank you.
Thank you!
I don’t know if this is the right place for these questions –
1. the zoom chat was closed on friday by the time I got to the site, is there another place to read/see the spoiler part of the zoom?
2. How much of the original book that Maggie has read over and over did Ilona Andrews have to actually write or imagine before starting this book? Did they write it in great detail before doing Maggie’s adventures in the book or do they make it up as they go?
I also would like the spoiler part of the zoom on YouTube please:)
+1
I like that in your previous works women are just as powerful and dangerous as men, but Rellas seems like a boy’s club at the House level. Hopefully we will meet more interesting women in the next book.
Umm, there was lady Yolenta, lady Bors (part of a couple, but still) and a slew of female knights, not to mention the fact that Maggie herself is probably the most dangerous person in Rellas. If every important character were female, it would be as boring as if every important character were male, I think.
I find this comment baffling. There are male and female knights, females at all levels.
Rellas and the neighbouring powers include women at multiple levels of influence, from knights to House figures, mages, clan leaders and social movers and shakers . Maggie herself is a particularly formidable presence in that setting, probably the most powerful of all in the view of some of us. There is a range of female power represented in the text.
Different parts of the narrative can emphasise different structures and dynamics, and how that is interpreted can vary from reader to reader 🙂 It’s an interesting balance to keep an eye on as the story develops.
At the House level, which is the one Smug references, some of the powerful and dangerous women from some families are dead before this story begins. So we only get to see their influence as backstory, but it’s there nevertheless.
Cherrypicking is an ever-present temptation in reading and real life. 🙂
“Yay! Rawr!”
You are so wonderful to us BDHers, I was pat*ently wa*ting for the companion book and website, thank you for this preview!💖
❤️❤️Thank you! Thank you! We always try to be fluffy and chalant…but…well…it’s hard to be p*tient! So many questions! This list of characters will go in my book along with room for notations.
I’m quite miffed. I’ve been reading your books for years…how have I never found your website before?! Also, very annoyed that now I’m waiting on TWO sequels from you…>_< (The Inheritance and TKWNKM) There would be more, but the Inheritance whetted my appetite for more of the Inn Keeper Chronicles, for the moment, so I can go a little longer waiting on that series to continue.*disappears to read all the short stories and blurbs she's missed out on*
Welcome to the BDH! Have fun!
Welcome to the Book Devouring Horde, and I wish you great enjoyment of all the fun stuff we have gotten from our beloved House Andrews over the years. The most important thing to remember is that we get great snippets and bonus scenes in the blog, so KEEP COMING BACK!
Rejoice! We welcome another Horde member home from wandering the wilds! The BDH increases!
For the Horde!
Thank you!!! This is amazing! 🙏💜
Stelka plushies please?
I second this request.
Adding a nonchalant third plea for Stelka plushies
Wasn’t the Yolenta family power Copper Glean? It says so in the book
Yes, they are able to find metals and I think also jewels with it.
Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Maggie. <3
Thank you so much.
amazing! thank you so much ❤️
THANK YOU. it can be overwhelming in a book this dense with places and people to keep up. The way ya’ll write makes it a pleasure to explore.
Please remember empty cups give nothing, so fill your cup often with many good things.
I was wondering if the Companion Book might also contain a calendar and measures of Relles.
Again many thanks
gosh, this is what I needed. I feel like I keep getting Solentine, Sauven, and Silverin mixed up. Their names are just so similar.
Thank you!! I was creating my own as I read, but this is much better!!
Thank you so much!!
I suspect authors of this kind of fantasy, with a vast array of characters and associations and settings, tend to get requests (if not actual demands) for guides of various kinds.
To me, the map is most important, because it’s easier for me to keep track of characters and their associations by verbal descriptions than to visualize spatial relationships that way.
However I’m not going to turn down a cast of characters in a book of this scope. And the artwork is fabulous, so to have a bunch of it in one spot would be so cool! No demands, all appreciation for whatever we get.
Thank you! Thank you! House Andrews once again proves their greatness!
Thank you! Honestly, I had to re-read the first 50 pages just to figure out who’s who! The names are so unpronounceable that trying to skim over them lost the thread. I was wishing for a cast of characters and a way to pronounce them. Reading these names is like reading Tolstoy’s Lord of The Rings! Love the book, though.
Most of the main names, like Everard and Raymond, Will and Kaiden, are fairly standard, but depending on reading pace or familiarity with the genre, I can understand others can feel a bit dense at first 🙂
For anyone who prefers audio, the narration is a masterclass, and absolutely helps anchor both pronunciation and character distinctions.
Glad to hear you’re enjoying the book overall!
I’m listening to book as my second reread so I can get the full scope. My first read I just devoured, now I’m savoring! It’s so good!
Thank you for giving us a feast of epic proportions. I tried to pace myself through the initial reading so I could take it all in and now find that the second reading is even more filling.
I know we keep asking for more salt, a few more mushrooms and maybe another rudberry pastry, but the Hoard is well and truly fed.
Please take time to take care of yourselves; we can wait for the next courses.
I am sorry for being dense but him being the leader of the Redeemer Order is a spoiler? This is explained in Chapter 9, that is not very far into the book and it is the first time his name is even mentioned?
I am just wondering because he is mentioned several times and if someone who is reading the book for the first time would like to remind themselves who Silveren is, being able to look up that he is the leader of the Redeemer order would be good, no?
Silveren is not an active character. Maggie and the others only talk about him.
I guess it’s like when characters in a book in our world would discuss real political leaders and possible conspiracy theories.
You wouldn’t put those politicians in a list of characters just because the main characters talk about them.
Same could be said for Matheo, they only talk about him, only he’s the main reason Reynald decides to help Maggie plus Matheo is Reynald’s son.
So that earns him a place on the spoiler free character list.
Is Lavia in Book 1?
Thank you! 😍 I was already thinking to start my own version…
Sushi is not in the character guide and neither is Tzeri! We need animal friends listed too!!
What she said!!!!!!!!
thanks a lot, very helpful
Thank you! As always you are generous and amazing.
Sending love to House Andrews &(Moderators) from the great white north
Annnd it’s downloadable! Thanks so much Ilona. This is hands-down one of the best book communities ever! Thanks for much for all you and the whole crew do for us!
Oh thank goodness, I was trying to recall some of the characters and for the life of me, I could not figure out where they came in or who they belong to. Thank you.
A little late in noticing this:
“You will have to wait until Maggie’s site, the app, or the Companion to Kair Toren, for the images version.”
Excuse me… an APP??? Yay! Rawr!
My excuse is that my brain full of tax info – doing them for my mom and myself. Ugh!
Ummm …… small problem ….. the cast list only includes the humans …..
You are so good to us!
Oooh, love the list! All those families boggle my brain, this is so good to have.
The “DeMarrs” reminded me of the “Mar” family in Bayou Moon. Maybe it’s just me, but it made me smile thinking it was intentional. Love that series and all of your books!
Definitely not just you 🙂
❤️❤️❤️☺️
Since I’m cookin’…Isadau made me think of Isabeau from one of my favorite 80s movies. So fun! 😉
This is very helpful and should be in the book!
Thankyou!
Thank you for this. I was wondering if you or any other horde member still had the page that had the cast members pictures on it.
I can’t find it and I think it would help me a lot matching the characters in the book with the picture art of the characters.
I think the problem I am having is there are a few characters that have similar names and am getting confused on who is who. Love the book though. Thank you
The post is on the first page of the blog 🙂 https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/an-accurate-stelka-guide-to-the-humans-of-kair-toren-character-art-roundup/
Will there be a list of mystery characters? Like…who was that shady fella that followed Maggie to the Garden?
What about Cai? Isadau? So many questions…*burning curiosity 😂
Love this, and very useful.
A minor spoiler might be Maggies last name.
In chapter 6 she’s still Maggie Haley
Why is Lasa’s surname listed as Olgren – are they related somehow?
There is a great review of The Kingdom will not kill me over on the SFFWorld site. They loved it. (Of course)
Seriously, THANK YOU SO MUCH for this! It’s extremely helpful!! I found myself getting lost in all the names. The names are always my downfall!
Will badges/lapel pins of the various house crests be made available? to purchase or to even print?
Brilliant. Thank you
I just finished the book, and now I am sad. But also happy, because it was a tremendously excellent book. Thank you.
Thanks!
