Blog, Fun 100 Comments | POST A COMMENT June 5, 2026 by Moderator R

Friday is Horde enrichment activity day, because otherwise we start to think Steve ideas make sense.

Behold, the Ilona Andrews crossword for June 5th:

Across

  • 2. Border-lord title with excellent fantasy credentials.
  • 3. Kinsmen whose family drama comes with built-in force blades.
  • 5. Ever merciful and kind to a fault. Title.
  • 7. Its prophecy speaks for all the covens; tortoise throat spit on the house.
  • 9. Old dragon whose Horde fans survive on two snippets and a prayer.
  • 10. The cutest argument for pressure sensors in dryer vents.

Down

  • 1. Criminally fluffy galactic merchants.
  • 4. Dye miracle worker with robbery-level bargaining skills.
  • 6. The moon people, the swamp elders and mud crawlers, ancestors to one of the galaxy’s greatest showmen.
  • 8. To admire the vampire full moon among the flowering apple trees, first serve this Earth beverage.

This is a static image, not an interactive puzzle, because the blog is many things, but not a puzzle app. You can copy it by hand, or save/print the image if you prefer paper and pencil.

This is completely optional and strictly for fun. If crosswords make your eye twitch, or the clues are too chernobogian, please feel free to ignore it with the most esteemed Mod R’s blessing.

The answer key is here.

Happy puzzling! Mischief responsibly this weekend.

ModR knows us too well; we definitely need “enrichment activities” to keep us occupied. 🙂

Steve’s ideas are starting to make sense . . . or at least fun to try. How many of us are up for “borrowing” the ferrets for a heist?

Yes, I giggled at many of these. ModR knows her people.

I am so thankful Iloma made the site easier to use and navigate. Everyone please check it out as it may have features you can now benefit. You maybe able to use it to work on the wonderful puzzle!

So glad the new accessibility tools are helping! That is exactly the sort of use case Ilona had in mind when she explored the options for plugins.

Just to clarify for everyone: the new tool can read highlighted text aloud. House Andrews are being very careful and thoughtful about AI use, and this is strictly an accessibility feature while better long-term options appear. The priority is to make the site easier to use for all readers 🙂

5 is familiar, what I thought it was isn’t in the books I have.

The full quote is: “The ________ is merciful and kind to a fault.” with the _____ being a title of one of the characters.

This is near the end of chapter 6 of the applicable book. I feel like saying the series will give it away? But if you want more of a hint just let me know!

The title he mentions is no longer held by this person. The title is now held by a half-blind weretiger who drives like a maniac.

On a different note, I convinced one of book clubs to read Maggie, and have successfully indoctrinated at least one friend to the Horde!!! In the course of doing so, we got into the weeds about drezmur vs. dursan. After careful (re)reading, it seems like drezmur are taller at the shoulder, but dursans have bigger overall bodies? Please confirm! Also, other than the cover art, will we ever, pretty please with Shana’s sambocades and Clover’s special honey on top, get artwork of these two creatures??

Thanks for the dragon’s name! That story must be from before I started reading the blog. And I’ve read Fated Blades and knew that was where it was from, but I don’t have easy access to the book to flip back through it…

I got the first five quickly, then needed to really stress the brain, and finally plunder my resource material when gears started smoking.

    I feel … accomplished!

I first heard 2 Across in Grace Draven’s audiobooks. 🙂

I had to find 3 Across and 6 Down (also vivid from the audiobook).

I went to look for our beloved dragon story to check the spelling of the name, but could not find it in free fiction or by search.

Really enjoyed the crossword. Had to check a lot of spellings.

Thank you for the puzzle. 100%. However, true BDH devotion is when you have listened to the Graphic Audio books enough that even your teenage kids recognize the same voices used across different series.

I’m very sad to say I’m horrible at remembering names of creatures and people! I want to know the answers and which book they are from!

Loved the puzzle! I answered Camarine instead of Margrave for the border lord clue, but otherwise I did awesome!
