Happy Monday! This is going to be just me rambling post. It’s too early for coherency and I am on my first cup of tea.
Please wish a swift recovery to Mod R who is feeling a little under the weather and had to wait to get antibiotics over the weekend. We are unsupervised for today.
Hurricane Beril made landfall as Category 1 storm in Houston, completely missing us. We won’t even get rain. See below – we are the gold star.
We could use some rain, but the temperature dropped to lower 90’s and it’s a bit overcast. We are grateful for a reprieve from the heat but concerned about the flooding in Houston.
I have a list of things to do an arm long, not the least of which are making a Tiktok account, editing and uploading the final advertisement trailer for Sanctuary, and reviewing our inventory for the merch store. We are test driving a lot of promotional ideas with this release.
I don’t want to do any of it. I just want to edit and tinker with the unconfirmed project. It’s like an eye doctor visit: in this sentence, better verb one of verb two? One or two?
It is no secret that some BDH members go above and beyond by finishing not just one of our series but all of them. To those of you who have read everything, please accept this award for your tireless dedication, attention to detail, and superior reading skills.
My tea tastes like boiled water. I mustn’t have brewed it long enough. I put another bag in there. That ought to fix it. Gordon bought me this amazing Valentine’s Day tea from Harneys and it is has been my first cup of tea for the last 6 months. They are out of tins on the website, because my husband must’ve bought all of them, hehehe.
Almost finished the Dragon Belly Shawl. The need to have a project overrode my indecisiveness. I used 800 yard skein from Wendy’s Wonders and I must say, the color changes are so smooth. I will post the final when it’s done, but here are a couple in progress. It looks even more vibrant in person. I had to drop the quality down because of the loading times.
Look at these transitions.
Very impressed.
A lot of you emailed asking if there will be Lollipops Part 3. Probably, but please don’t hold us to it.
There is very little fuel left. All the brain power is going into the edits. I have asked everyone to be patient with me and explain things slowly, because half of the time I have no clue what day it is or what they are talking about.
And that concludes our Monday ramble. We wish you an easy and low-stress week.
Lovelee says
Happy Monday❣️ Have a beautiful day 🤗
Hanna says
I wish house Andrew’s a low stress cool week that will allow their brains to recover a bit!! Thanks so much for the award, all your works are a pleasure to read.
Johanna J says
Hope Mod R feels better soon! Thanks for the Monday post. 😊
Amy says
Glad to know that you guys aren’t in the path of the storm. I was wondering about it. Good luck with all of the braining!
Kathleen says
Those transitions are gorgeous.
VannaRR says
‘Do you know how much braining it takes to make words go?’ I feel this in my SOUL. This summer I’m in a high-intensity playwriting MFA program. In the last 3 weeks, I’ve produced more new content than I’ve ever had to create.

Happy Monday. Hope mod R gets better and the edits go smoothly.
Rita P says
Wow! That shawl is amazing! LOVE those colors! And I hope mod R gets better soon!
You guys are the best and I hope your edits go smoothly.
Also, I’m on of first 10 comments!
njb says
Get well soon, ModR! Sorry you’re under the weather!
Hehehehe. That’s a cute award! Re your morning cuppa, it’s a Monday! And the dragon shawl is definitely pretty.
I kinda thought the lollipops snippet was done, but will adore anything more you decide to do on it.
Yep, sorry for Houston! It floods and loses power with a normal storm. So even a category one will have amazing impact.
Patricia Schlorke says
I hear you about Beryl missing central Texas. The joys of a hurricane that kept everyone on their toes.
Hope Mod R feels better soon. 🙂
If we get a Lollipops part 3, great. If not, that’s ok too. Take all the time you need.
Hope the edits go smoothly, the yarn work doesn’t get too tedious, and the brain can recover.
MariaZ says
So glad to hear you are OK Hurricane wise. We need rain here in Virginia, this is our second summer of drought. I have a brand new garden in, it’s only 3 years old. I can’t afford to lost it. There goes my water bill. With all the heat and humidity we of course have thunderstorm warnings. Why, do they miss us. I can see the sheet lighting flashing all over the sky. I hear the might boom of thunder. The wind is rustling mightily in the trees. A drop or two is all I get. On the other hand my brand new roof is fine. Four more months and it is paid off.
jewelwing says
RVA area here, moved in last year. I feel your pain. It’s not just the drought; it’s heat stressed plants from the 90s/70s temps virtually every single day for weeks. Water runs right through the coastal soils. The flip side is, even in the 1.5″ we got last Sunday, the roof (not old itself, but the rafters of the indoor plumbing era addition are set improperly on the ancient tin of the original structure) leaked only a tiny bit. So fixing it can wait a month or two longer.
MariaZ says
Here in NOVA the rain just beads on the hard packed & baked red clay. I heard that Hurricane Beryl will of course miss Virginia and is heading toward Canada.
Leigh says
Yep, dry and dusty on the Rappahannock River.
Liz says
Feel better Mod R! Braining to make words is hard. That’s why I lurk.
Michelle D says
To Ilona and Gordon – great news all around!
For those of us in the UK
Waterstones finally has the print version of Sanctuary live on their website
Beth says
How did Waterstones get it 3 weeks ahead of the US?
Moderator R says
I think Michelle is talking about the paperback preorder ☺️
Michelle D says
Thanks for clarifying the information I posted Mod R.
Hope you’re feeling much better

Sending good vibes all around. Wishing Mod R a speedy recovery and HA speedy edits. The shawl is gorgeous! Happy tea drinking! Going drink some myself, iced tea I made from Trader Joe’s Black Mango tea.
Proud Bookworm says
Get well soon to Mod R! Good choice on the Valentine’s Day tea. I have one tin, so Gordon didn’t buy all of it… 🙂 Wishing you all the energy you need for the tasks that you face!!
Norbert says
Thanks for the award!
Get well soon to Mod R!
Wendy says
Get well soon to Mod R.
Glad Beryl missed you and you had a slight reprieve in temps. Our weather in California is cooling down a little thankfully. But it’s wildfire season.
The shawl is gorgeous
Claire-Charlotte says
Haha! Thank you for the award! My sister and I read everything House Andrews in English and everything published in French. If I spoke something else I probably would have read in that language too. It’s so much fun, like reading the books for the first time again.
Have a wonderful week with very little brain power needed ❤️
Joanne says
That should be an extra award for reading everything available in two languages!
Miranda Sutton says
I love a good tea but my favorite company, Fire Mountain, is going out of business…. so I ordered 3lb of my favorite lol. I pray that Mod R has a speedy recovery. Thank you both for your hard work! I can’t wait for the next one lol.

Upstate NY is experiencing 90+ heat. I believing, I can do heat, did too much yesterdays and now my brain cells are scrambled. Nothing planned for today but AC!
Gsg says
Not an author, but I brain at work, and as soon as I get home, the bra comes off and the brain sinks to somewhere around my butt. No braining after hours. Unless I’m paged. Nothing better than taking that bra off at then end of a long, hit day. Amiright?
Emily says
yes. you are right.
I wore a bra for the first time in years recently in Florida and it’s going back on the never again list. miserable all around.
both the bra and Florida in the summer.
Brightfae says
Lovely ramble! The shawl is gorgeous. Relax and hang in.
Beth says
Mod R—- Sorry to hear that you’re under the weather. I’m visualizing you in a comfy chair with a “cuppa” your favorite tea and your feet upon a nice soft pouffe. Please take good care of yourself. We can’t do without you(and wouldn’t wish to).
jewelwing says
Seconded! Please take good care of yourself. Herding cats can wait until you’re up for it again.

Dragon belly.., it’s beautiful!!! And really does evoke the vibe of its namesake.
Love the award 📚📚📚! Have read all the series, all the free stuff, everything and come back over and over. Started a new author to fill time but online readers are predicting she kills the leads and that’s what I love about HA! I never have to worry about that kind of development.
Mod R! Feel better soon!
Daniela says
I`m glad you`re safe from the storm!
I wish all the best to Mod R!

As I read this, I am sitting at the service/repair shop waiting for them to tell me what is wrong with my transmission, why it was my fault (therefore voiding any potential warranty), & what the ransom will be. So I humbly accept your award. I’d like to thank you for braining the words when it mattered, which made my accomplishment not only possible but thoroughly enjoyable. You’ve earned that second teabag; in fact, drop in a third!
Bailey says
Was really hoping we’d get a nice soaking to fill up the lakes. Complete miss!
Merano says
So good of Beryl to give your house a pass 🙂
“how much braining it takes…?” HA so very true. We understand. However, I do have problems when so much grammar is left out that I can’t understand someone’s post. If it takes a lotta my own braining to decipher it I pass on it. None of your posts have been indecipherable yet, so we’re good.
And I love Harney & Sons tea! I’m waiting for winter hoping the price of their White Christmas tea goes down. Much as I love it, I can’t possibly pay $30 for a tin of tea!
Niki in Philly says
So happy to have found lollipops, ER visit for significant chest pain in my 8yo last night and mama bear wanting to grab a dr and shake them!!! lollipops let me wait pa*****ly in waiting room. Thankfully all okay but cardiologist is on our calendar now this week which is surreal. I’m moving onto comfort reading innkeeper again because Fridays cardio and ECHO can’t come soon enough for me. Hope everyone else can have a low stress week tho!
Jean says
Sending many hugs!!
Moderator R says
I hope everything has a happy ending!
jewelwing says
Oh gosh, how scary! Hope it turns out to be minor and easily resolvable.

Dear Mod R – I wish you a speedy recovery 🌺
Thank you House Andrews for the award 🥳 I have enjoyed reading (and rereading) every book you wrote and I am looking forward to reading everything you will write 😍
Jean says
Get well soonest, dear Mod R!!
“Lens one or lens two?” – I think that is required on day one of opthalmic medicine classes!!
Glad Beryl missed you! Agree that rain would be a blessing in many places this summer!
Tea, strength, onward!!
SoCoMom says
Glad you are safe from the storm and glad you are getting a heat break. We’re getting one here as well.
Your shawl is beautiful – the name really is apt. I’d just want to snuggle into it and giggle – or something similar that is dragon-like. Maybe I’d wrap that delicious BDH trophy in it and guard it with other treasures.
I have zero brain power over here. Have had one hell of a year every week so far in 2024. Dealing with Eternal Paperwork from Bureaucratic Circles of Hell, compounded with other Life Issues. It’s too hot to make tea. If I had full on a/c, I’d probably go with with the Herbal House Tea, especially made and served at The Well Within; then I’d put on Brian Eno’s “Music for Airports” and tune out – ahhhhhh.
Sending well wishes to ModR and perfectly brewed tea to HA.
jewelwing says
`Thank you for the award Ilona! Hope your brain revives. A comment above just made me realize I have missed my afternoon auto shop appointment due to fried brain. Off to phone and apologize profusely.
Olivia says
I hate when I make tea and it just tastes like boiled water. It’s such a letdown. The shawls sound beautiful. Also, thanks for our honorary award!
Di says
I think this heat wave has sucked all energy from everyone. Have fun tinkering with the new book!
Savannah says
just be careful with the hurricane
Harriet says
::hugs:: here’s to smooth writings, and easy account creations.

Wishing ModR the best of health. And one of my good dog friends just sent pictures around her neighborhood showing all the trees that came down. Both broken off (I suspect they were rotten, they were BIG trees) and some from the roots (generally trees are shallow rooted). Very devastating and scary. Bad year for trees, Milwaukee lost a lot of them in spring from storms and straight line winds.
Sioux says
I’m shocked at the idea that there are people who read your books and HAVEN’T read all of them. Are they having connectivity problems in their trip to Jupiter? Because I can’t think of any other reason for that to happen.
Ms. Kim says
+1
John says
I’m afraid that I am one book short of all of them.
I bought it, started it, put it aside, and am not planning on going back to it.
Alphas. It’s not for me.
MaraDarling says
That’s fair. You still get the trophy because you bought it and tried it.
Dawn says
Do we get a special award when we read all of the books more than once?
i think I’ve read all of the series at least twice (probably closer to 5 for Kate and Hidden Legacy).
How many of us have read Iron & Magic over 5 times waiting for book 2??😁
Ms. Kim says
I am so relieved Beryl missed you but sorry you don’t get any of its rain. Pinellas so on water restrictions and I look favorably on any tropical storm and or Cat 1 that wants to drop its rain on me.
wont says
For ModR, I hope your meds kick in soon. It’s miserable to be miserable. 🥹
For some silly reason I thought Beryl would not hit us. If only. We lost power last night. Very heavy wind and rain. We woke up today to learn huge ( really huge) trees have fallen at both ends of our street. The street is blocked. So, here we are, again, in a miserable situation. Yes, I’m whining. We’ll get through I’m not sure when.
Bibliovore says
Sympathies. That wind was not fun to listen to.
sarafina says
We got a little bit of rain in DFW around 2 pm. Cloudy, with temps under 100 so that’s still too hot but better.
Barbera says
I’ve been enjoying a bit of Harney’s “Paris” tea. A very nice one. Best of editing to you!
William B says
And some of the BDH have not only read all of your work, but read it multiple times.
And we thank you for your braining
Donna A says
Thank you for the award, though I thought the books were reward enough. Hopefully your brain rests and recovers, and that goes out to all the weary brains, mine included! Get well soon ModR, eat up that chicken noodle soup and come back to us.
bege says
I learned that our brains do their PHYSICAL housekeeping when we are asleep, just saying.
Sue Young says
Glad the hurricane is missing you, we’ll get the rain in central Illinois and we can use it. We may get 5 inches which is a little too much. I think tomorrow will be a good day to stay inside and do a re read of Hidden Legacy. Or Innkeeper, I haven’t decided
Sue F says
Hope Mod-R feels better! Why do things always seem to happen on weekends…
And I know this is probably too late, but would love to see the award “trophy” available in the merch store when it opens. I’d buy it and display it preferentially in front of the other mostly pretty random awards and certificates I have!
AP says
Wishing Mod R a speedy recovery! 🤗
Thank you for the award – it’s beautiful! 😄
May the BDH stay very chalant until whatever gets published whenever!
Colleen C. says
Sending positive thoughts to Mod R the Efficacious!
Bibliovore says
I live between Houston and Galveston. Was up at 5 am listening to to wind and power was out shortly after. Power has been back for 30 minutes now. Roof is fine but the yard is full of twigs and branches. Clearing some now but the rest will have to wait after I have slept.
Bibliovore says
Glad I had your books to reread.
Betty says
If you haven’t you need to try Grand Wedding Tea from TWG Tea. It’s my absolute favorite and replaced my morning Lady Grey. And I found it by recommendation of another favorite author who is a tea drinker. That shawl is awesome.
Sam says
Swift recovery to Mod R, and Happy Monday to you!
Unconfirmed project – I can’t wait!
Thank you for the award. I’d like to thank my parents and teachers, who taught and inspired me to read, and House Andrews, who created stories fabulous enough to re-read.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to refuel so that your braining will be effortless and you can make words go again… 😀
Shellb says
That color transition was flawless.
Jackie Ward says
Wishing mod r a speedy recovery, Thankyou for the award much appreciated.
Robin says
Wishing a swift and smooth recovery to ModR.
My emergency kit has a few used paperbacks that I have not yet read. My area of Alabama has had a few instances of power outages lasting 4 or more days. When one must conserve battery life; and the internet is not available either, I have reverted to old school for emergency use.
Our electricity is supplied by elderly above ground wires on poles that are energized by a hydroelectric dam which is older than the wires. Here in tornado country we are always one strong gust from feeling “powerless”.

we keep ours out all the so they’re charged and accessible. so far we’ve used them twice for random unplanned blackouts and they’re great!
Angela says
not to mention if the brain processor overheats or needs fuel. I can only imagine!!
Rachel says
Are there extra special numbered awards for the Horde members who go above and beyond to read everything, and then reread, and read it all again and again? And every time a new book in a series is published, you have to calculate when to start rereading the series in advance of the release date, so that you finish the last book just as the new release loads on the kindle? Asking for a friend.

ModR, I hope you feel better quickly!
Ooh, the Valentine’s Day tea sounds so good! I’ve been drinking Harney’s Chocolate Mint or Victorian London Fog.
I’m trying to start a new scarf, but I am a very, very beginner in crocheting and I am still figuring it all out, so it is slow!
Your Dragon Belly Shawl looks great!
Thank you for the award! So fun!

Ona Jo-Ellan Bass says
Thanks for the award. I’ve been reading your books since …um…well, the Kate short story, then the Edge books. It’s been a process, slowly acquiring paper backs, then ebooks, then audio…Loved the Innkeeper books when they first appeared on the blog, picked up paperbacks at the local Dollar store, listened to audio on long commutes until I didn’t have to do those any more, then used them as bedtime stories. I think I have everything, and have read everything. If I’ve missed something, then it isn’t listed on your website. More to the point, thank you for the many wonderful books, for all your long hours writing and editing. Especially the editing. Waiting for the happy moment when Sanctuary is available in book format, and looking forward to the mystery project. Can’t say thank you enough for all the hours of happy reading/listening.
Bill G says
Best wishes for healing to Mod R. Glad to hear you’re outside the storm’s path; some experiences are best to avoid, eh? I too eagerly await the next episode of Lollipops. And the ‘Their stories’ vs. ‘In chats’ bit managed to take my alleged memory back; over half a century back. Somehow a scenario from one of Doc Smith’s “Skylark” novels still lingers, and was pulled back. The protagonist, a scientist, was chastised for the fact that his speech habits were rather sloppy. And he made a quite erudite reply about how his writing would always be proper, but speech was ephemeral and so he didn’t bother to keep it precise.
Sechat says
wishing Mod R a swift, complete recovery.
TikTok soumds like a blessing and a curse.
I can’t swear *yet* that I’ve read everything, but now I have a mission to earn that lovely trophy
When my oldest was a tween, she loved the Babysitter’s Club series of books (novella length),,,,so much so that we parents just subscribed to the series as a monthly mail order. Set and forget.
Imagine our family’s surprise and delight, roughly four years later, when she received a letter (instead of a book) stating that she had read ALL the books; approximately 60+ in the main series, a dozen or so in the junior babysitters spinoff (a little like Blood Heir)’, and another half dozen odd novel length books. The cherry on top was a certificate deeming her an official member of the Babysitters Club!
Shiloh Walker says
from one writer to another… I love the braining explanation.
also, have so much envy on the shawl.
Farmwifetwo says
The hurricane comes tonight until Thursday. The special weather statement arrived yesterday. There’s a lot of unseeded acreage in my corner of the world including across from my house, we don’t need anymore rain.
Your shawl is beautiful. I am envious how you found the mental space to do it. There’s always time. I have a printed cross stitch but instead keep rereading very fluffy books. I will get there….
Chris V says
I just realized I have a whole wall filled with your awards for the many, many, many times I’ve read all of your series in their entirety! Go me!
Natalie Jane says
Thank you for the award🤩 But seriously, reading your material is rewarding enough🥰 I’ve read everything at least twice and it will forever be something I read again and again when I’m frustrated I can’t find anything else as much as I love your books!!!
That shawl is amazing also😍

Yes, those transitions are seamless & so very beautiful! I’m glad the hurricane missed you, but wish you could get some cooler temps & rain. Not monsoon-giant-bucket-dumped-on-your-head rain, but soft, ground nourishing, gentle, normal (is there such a thing?) rain.
Wishing Moderator a swift recovery–gosh, how miserable to go through the weekend sick & suffering, having to wait to get antibiotics!
EEBrown says
I am honored by this award. I read and reread your books as my favorite authors, but never would I have imagined this thoughtfulness.
Wishing you peace and prosperity as you continue to cultivate characters and worlds that stir the imagination. Thank you for your continued efforts.
With heartfelt appreciation.
Carrie says
Hope your braining goes well.
My brain is also stuck in low gear and the timing belt is off.
I’m recovering from my hubby being in hospital since Friday night. (Brought him home last night; he’s basically fine now.) It was exhausting, between the stress, not sleeping well, trying to find things to entertain my young daughter while we were at the hospital all day (we just moved to FL for my husband’s job and have nobody nearby), and the doctors were waffling over the diagnosis and whether they were doing surgery or no. (They settled on multiple diagnoses and no surgery.)
Last night, I was pouring juice for my daughter from a bigger container into a smaller cup. I even told myself to watch the juice level so I don’t spill it. I just poured the entire 20 oz into the 12 oz cup. I couldn’t put the brakes on fast enough. (I don’t even know why I’m using all these car metaphors. I know very little about cars but it’s all I can think of.) Juice spilled all over the counter and dribbled down the cabinets onto the floor. Sigh.
That just took 20 minutes to type, proofread, and edit. I think I’m going back to bed.
Mod R, hope you’re feeling better soon!
jewelwing says
This is your brain on trauma. I hope your life settles down to a more manageable level of chaos soon.

Thank you for my BDH Finished Everything Award. I’d like to humbly thank HA, my Kobo, online book stores as well as my public library for helping to make it all possible.
That author chat bit is a hoot!
Bobbi says
Many thanks for the lovely award. I may have earned 4 or 5 by now like most of the BDH. Wishing much of the US a reprieve from the heat. We are supposed to have one last day in the 100’s. Very unusual for the Willamette valley in Oregon to be this hot this early in the summer.
Wey says
I thought “yay I get an award!” Then remembered I haven’t read all of the kinsmen stories. Sounds like i might’ve found something to do while I hide from the heatwave in my city.
I have that shall pattern! Seeing yours makes me think I should finish it before the mermaid blanket I’ve been trying to finish for years.
Your yarn is spectacular! Absolutely gorgeous!
Good luck with the edits. That’s one of the things about being a writer I don’t know if I could do. I’d either end up with a new story or never finish because I went cross eyed. We will wait pati…pa… with voracious appetites.
Henry says
Thank you for reminding the BDH how busy you are and down times are necessary for cleaning the cobwebs out of your system.
The reading plaque looks nice. I believe I have read everything at least twice except for the Alpha’s book. Many I have read more than three times. I could do Alphas only once.
Mod R get well soon.
Ericka says
Hope you feel better soon, Mod R!
While they are unsupervised, someone should get Gordon on the horn and ask him things.
I spent a lovely weekend drinking daquiris on my dad’s pool deck and now I am broken. No more braining! Want daquiris! I anticipate this whole week being a challenge.

There is a search function at the bottom of the page. If you put in “Lollipops” it shows you the post straight away 🙂.
You can also check the tags under the title of a post. In this case “Arabella Baylor” will bring up all the posts about her.
Or check the blog home page https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/. Lollipops 1 is still on the first page of blogs 🙂.
Once the story is finished, it will also be added to the Free Fiction page, here https://ilona-andrews.com/free-fiction/

I live in northwest Houston and we got the direct hit. Living without power is the hard part. A Cat 1 hurricane is not so bad, but no power, temp in low 90s and no relief in site. It’s so hot everyone sits in their cars to cool off. Me and my dog just trying to stay cool.
Jane Compeau says
The colors in your shawl are beautiful! It looks like a relaxing knit too, wonderful!

Love the video! And the production company name! 😁 I’m having a hard braining day as well. I saw Christmas Eve and thought “Oh no, I didn’t realize it was that far out.” and then realized it takes place DURING Christmas and it’s coming out next month. 🤦♀️ You did great with it (or with whomever you got to make it)!

Oh, Ilona! For good, strong tea, you need loose leaf. Try East Friesian blend. Yum and great for early morning brain cell stirring.
DeeAnn says
The only problem with the BDH award is it doesn’t mention when we have read all your books at least 4 times over the years. Yes, that would be me. When I need a good book and can’t find anything I want to read, I always reread you, Grace Draven or Patricia Briggs. Actually I have several other authors I reread too. The list is long.
