The Magic Binds full cast dramatized adaptation will be released on Tuesday, March 25th. The preorder is available on the Graphic Audio website, as well as on Audible and all the other usual third party retailers.
Of course, we got sample goodies!
What do you mean, ‘do I need cake right now‘? Kate. Beloved. We ALL need cake right now.
The three Queens guarding the line of Shinar – this Mishmar scene always gives me Canada goose bumps.
There is a third official sample on the preorder page I linked above: Kate and Curran visiting Roman about their wedding. Wedding planner shenanigans: engaged!
The next GA Ilona Andrews releases are:
Burn for Me, Hidden Legacy 1 on April 25th. You can also find find it for preorder on Audible etc.
Magic Triumphs, Kate Daniels 10 on May 20th – there is an update to the date here, it was previously set to come out on May 2nd, but the script is just too epic and Nora never lets a project be just good when she can make it amazing. A spoonful of sugar, intense editing, sound design and lots of loving work makes the final battles and psychotic ancient dragons go down! Ehhh, you know what I mean. Neig wishes. Preorder should go live on third party retailers sometime next week.
I’ve seen some concerned comments wondering how much content will be abridged from Magic Triumphs and Burn for Me because the length of the traditional audiobooks and the length of the dramatized adaptation always appear to have several hours of difference.
Having pored over both scripts, I’m happy to confirm the answer is: virtually nothing was cut! Those were in fact Nora’s first words to me when we started discussing Magic Triumphs, and who can blame her? Certainly not us hehe.
The differences in duration come mainly from the fact that animated dialogue has a different rhythm than a single narrator reading. Dramatized battle scenes, for example, rely a lot more on dynamic back and forth and the majority of GA actors are really embodying the snappy deadpan Ilona and Gordon wrote for their characters. Renee Raudman has her own signature cadence, which is the favourite of so many, but I know a lot of readers prefer to increase the speed of traditional audio.
Audio effects and interpretation can also supplant certain descriptive passages and action tags, with no difference to content. We can hear that the actor is laughing while delivering the line, or that the birds are singing while a conversation is taking place, the narrator doesn’t have to specify it to us.
You can read more about the adaptation process in previous interviews with members of the Graphic Audio team here and here.
I have covered in more detail how to buy and the accessibility of the GA app in this post, which you can also supplement with the Graphic Audio Help FAQ on their website.
More posts, squee! I love checking in and seeing a new post, and I so appreciate the effort it takes to keep us informed. Thanks!
+1! Thanks Mod R! 🤗
The samples all sound amazing!
Yes! Thank you!
Thanks so much for clips!! Shiny!
I have been loving re-experiencing the Kate Daniels universe through GA. It has been a much needed comfort re-read this year and I can’t wait for the rest of them to be released.
❤️❤️
Yay! Thank you for the sample goodies Mod R!
I’ve already pre-ordered everything on GA’s website. Hee hee!
I think this has always been my favorite book in the series. Roman really makes it a fun book while all of the other madness and mayhem happens around Kate. And Curren doing the normal guy-type thing when getting married of staying as far away from the decisions as Kate will allow him makes it even more fun. The sound bites show that this is going to be a great audio book!
I”m so excited! Can’t wait for the Hidden Legacy, that might be my favorite series of all time.
I can’t stop laughing after listening to all three clips. Knowing what was coming for all three made me laugh even harder.
I am seriously considering buy this version of the book. I really want to hear the following: when Kate comes back from Mishmar and Erra materializes in the house with Curran and Derrek colliding in the living room, Kate’s ballet scene after she finally makes her decisions about the wedding, and Erra’s reading of what’s on Kate’s body. 😀
I also might buy Magic Breaks, since that was the first book I read of Kate and company. Especially when Hugh teleports Kate and Ghastek to Mishmar, and then when Kate meets her grandmother, and the whole Swan Palace scene.
Thanks Mod R for the scene clips and the laughs. In a few weeks, I’m getting my right knee replaced, so I need all the laughs I can get.
I pre-ordered Magic Binds and Magic Triumphs. I also got Magic Breaks. Nice splurging on myself right now. 🙂
Good luck on your surgery and best wishes for a speedy recovery! 🤗
Thanks!
“When he finds out who I’m going to marry, he’ll have an aneurysm!”
I love Roman’s voice on this. Is it the same actor in all the previous ones? The more samples I listen to, the more I consider buying these even though I usually don’t like audio books.
The same Roman 🙂
I ready very fast and most audible books seem slow to me. Also, I prefer the voices in my head while reading it myself to a single narrator. But these…. they’re luring me in…
I typically didn’t like audio books, but LOVE these. I might be addicted, I think. 🤔 Oh, well! 😄
Typical audio books seem to drag for me, but these have a good pacing. You can adjust the speed too, but I usually don’t need to for these. Also, if you’re hard of hearing (I am), it easier to tell who is speaking when it’s not all the same person. When I’d try traditional audio, I struggled to know who was saying what.
The sound effects and different actor voices really make it come alive for me. If I could only pick one, it would be reading, but these are great for things I have to do that don’t really allow reading. Long drives, doing housework, exercising…. (I kinda use it as an incentive to do things I don’t enjoy.)
Last I checked, there’s a 40% off sale going on now. If you’re concerned though, you could try borrowing one from your library, if it has digital options (many do!). I’ve checked out some that way (from other authors) that I didn’t feel a need to own.
Sooooooo good! Highly recommend! 🤗
I bought the first 3 Kate Daniels books. I cringed when I saw that the length of the first will be over 9 hours of hearing it read to me. It generally takes me way less time than that to read a book of that length. But I will admit it is very entertaining and I can listen to it while making dinner. It’s difficult to read a book while making dinner and not have… less than optimum cooking results.
I like the echoy thing with Erra.
Ghost-Erra!
I did too. At first I thought the actor who is Kate also was Erra’s voice. Then I read the cast list. Erra is a different actor. However, in that scene, Kate and Erra sound the same. Wow!
Veeeeery much intentional! Nora is a casting and a directing genius!
That scene is about the continuity of the bloodline, about how much Semiramis-Erra-Kate are an unbroken line of female power. “The blood bred true” and they are the only chance Shinar has against the toxicity that threatens to extinguish it: Roland.
Yep! Still, the actor who did Erra’s ghost voice did an excellent job of sounding like the actor who did Kate’s voice. 😀
I just LOVE the Graphic Audio productions, they really live up to the hype!!
I’ve been so impressed by the GA versions of your books. They’re so good and they do them so quickly!
Really looking forward to GA Hidden Legacy.
oooooh, I can’t wait for the releases!
No blaming here, the more the better.
I always wondered about ‘what was cut’ because GA audios are shorter. Thank you for explaining!
I just hope that the abridged version doesn’t cut more scenes like they did in Sweep of the Heart. The scene where Dina stands up to the Assembly is just gone in the GA version. And that was a big favorite scene of mine. I think the folks choosing what to cut don’t necessarily read the series, and don’t realize when something has a presence over the entire series, and needs to be included.
The folks deciding what to cut are the directors of the production. They do read the series, because they’re the ones adapting the script and then recording with each artist 🙂
Yay! More Graphic Audio! More clips! Cool things cometh!
I feel called out! Most of my traditional audio books are automatically set to at least 1.1x speed. I have really taken to Graphic Audio.
squeeeee so happy – thank you
I have loved all of the graphic audio versions. And I loved all of the audible versions. I can’t wait for the rest of the books!!!! GA just brings extra depth and detail to the story. Don’t get me wrong, I loooove Renee. This is just next level!
I have all the Kate Daniels audio books which I love, but these graphic audio books put more ?? , mmmmm , can’t find the damn word so I’ll just go with More, (have got my daughter into them too ), absolutely love them thanks .
Very excited for this. Kate and Co keep me company very nicely!
The pronunciation of
Roman
As ROW-mON
vs
Ro-Man
Is strange to my ears…
I’m Sure both are correct.
My question is this “Was this something that HA suggested/directed/had any input on?/or was just something the GA team creatively implemented?
The pronunciation in the samples is the correct one, as intended by the authors 🙂 . More details here https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/roman-audio-follow-up/
“In the US, the name is associated with RO-man as in citizen in Rome. In Eastern Europe, it’s associated with romance, hehehe. Okay probably not really, but it’s pronounced as Ro-MUHN, emphasis on the second syllable.
He is a man of Russian descent. We do not mind how the readers pronounce it, but we don’t want confusion when it comes to the audiobook releases.”
Question: I love Graphic Audio and preorder all your stuff, but I was just curious since I know they buy rights to your books and then produce them as they see fit. Do you get any money for the actual sales of the GA productions? (Like does any of my preorder money make it to you other than when they buy the rights from you?). Note: I won’t stop buying regardless but I am curious.
Hooray!
I love Renee’s version of the stories but I’m enjoying this as well as the voice of Curran is the same in both Magic Tides and so it’s very seamless.
Though, I agree – I did have to listen to Renee at 2x speeds.
Regardless, thank you Mod R and Nora and team.
I have the books on a loop so this is a good way to break up the listening 😀
Thank you, Mod-R, for keeping us informed on all the goodness coming our way!
We appreciate you!
Peace and safety to you all!
Nice!
Thanks for the clarification on why there is a difference in length. I read somewhere they they may cut out parts, but knowing the cadence and eliminating the “he said/she said/they laughingly-jokingly said” is the main reason for the time difference has me rethinking some books I passed on.
This is off topic, but apparently I won a set of the Clean Sweep part 2 graphic novel stickers! They are so cute! Thank you to the makers of them and anyone else who had a hand in it! 🥳🤗
Yay! Congratulations!
Love ❤️ it soooo much
Oh, my gosh. So good! Can’t wait (for any of it). 😂 GraphicAudio rocks.
All pre-ordered! So excited!
Mod R, you do such a great job with this blog! Thank you! Appreciate all the info.
Those are fun! Thanks!
So many treats coming !!!! Thank you Graphic Audio, thank you House Andrews, best news I’ve seen in months! So looking forward to the start of Hidden Legacy … oh mercy, this is going to be SO good!!!
FYI all, Chirpbooks has most of the Graphic Audio productions of Kate on sale right now, for $3.99-$4.99.
https://www.chirpbooks.com/series/kate-daniels-andrews-audiobooks
Chirpbooks is an audio book retailer. They have an app just like Audible, but it’s just straight pricing. They have specials (you can get on their daily mailing list) and you can follow authors so you’re informed when their works go on sale.
Thank you so much for this link. I don’t mind getting my favorite series (aka KD, Innkeeper and a couple more) as soon as they come out on GA (I even pre-order). But, I’ve been wanting to try other graphic audio books and couldn’t find Graphic audio through my library system.
This site seems to have good deals on certain authors…
Thanks!
I have all the regular audio versions and actually prefer them to dramatize versions. I’m probably in the minority on that. It’s like loving a book and going to see the movie, it’s not the same. Same reason I never buy abridged versions. Will we still be getting the full versions in the future? Both versions, or only dramatized? It’s different if it’s not cut as you said, but the difference in playing time is huge and a worry.
The traditional, one-reader audiobooks will never be replaced by the dramatised versions. They are produced by the authors or publishers, and part of the book release. They will continue.
The dramatised versions are produced baby Graphic Audio as their own separate business endeavour, after they purchase adaptation rights.
OMG Roman the Wedding planner. I’d forgotten all about that part.
He’s my favorite part of the book!
Amazing…sigh… I was going to hold and listen both Magic Binds and Magic Triumph at the same time but I don’t know if I can hold until May 20th…. Two long months…
Thank you so much for sharing 😊
Damn it! I wasn’t gonna. I didn’t want to like these because of worry that I would lose the version of the books that I have in my head. But I listened to the first sample and laughed so much! My eyes are wet from the laughing. Sigh. This might be fantastic. Has anyone else shared my concerns?
Woohoo! I am loving the GA versions and I am thrilled that more of the wonderful stories by Ilona Andrews will be available soon!!
Thank you so much!
I’m glad that you and so many of your fans love the audio productions of your books!
But, I love the original audio books with a narrator reading your books. I have bought many on Audible and borrowed some from our local library. I hope these original version continue to be available!
Thank you so much for all your creativity, hard work, wonderful characters in amazing worlds!
