If you missed the previous post, here are the highlights:
- This is preorder, because our printer stocks vellum specifically for us and we don’t know what the demand will be.
- The preorder will run 06/08/2026 to 07/08/2026; at which point it will start shipping.
- US only for now. Working on UK, CA, and AUS. Need a fulfillment center for each.
- We will include a map of Kair Toren by Becka Designs Cartography – the contracts has been sent, so unless something goes wrong, it will be in there.
- If you want your bookplate personalized, write it in at the time of order in order notes.
- The stickers will be random and may include other designs if we run out of what we have

PS: For everyone in the US who ordered the UK hardcover edition of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me, UK hardback-sized vellum inserts will be added to the US store later this week, for US shipment only.
We are staggering the listings to avoid the confusion of two different sizes during the initial preorder rush. For reference, the UK hardback is the 16.5 x 4.1 x 24.2 cm edition.
To celebrate, here is a small snippet from Maggie the Undying #2.
I Am Going
I shifted my shoulders, trying to adjust to the weight of the chain mail, and carefully measured clay powder with a small scoop. The chainmail was bulky, heavy, and awkward, and I hated it. Pressida packed me into it to build up my endurance and get me accustomed to wearing armor. I clinked when I walked.
“Please,” Kaiden said.
“No. Absolutely not.”
Kaiden crossed his arms on his chest. This was Gort’s I-do-not-approve pose, and he imitated it perfectly, except that it worked for Gort because he was six foot three, two-hundred and fifty pounds, and had arms like tree trunks. At twelve, Kaiden was barely five feet tall and had arms like chopsticks. Effort: 100%. Intimidation: 0%.
I poured the premeasured clay powder into the bucket.
“Kaiden, you are not going.”
“Why?”
He tried to load menace into the word. It sounded frighteningly familiar. Kaiden had chosen two primary male role models: Everard and Gort, and he was slowly turning into some sort of terrifying meld of the two. I was really failing at this guardian of a minor thing.
“Because it will be dangerous.”
“I’ve been in danger!”
“Yes, and that was due to a failure on my part.”
“There will be other boys my age there.”
“And those boys are squires training to be journeyman knights.”
“So? I can kill most of them. I’ve had proper instruction.”
I stopped weighing and looked at him. “It’s not about killing other boys. Besides, those boys will be in the rear with the supply carts.”
“I can be with the carts.”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t trust you not to sneak off to the front.”
I resumed scooping clay into the bucket on the scales. I had managed to find an equivalent to kaolin clay, which improved the lathering of the soap. It tested well in our basic recipe.
“I promise to stay with the carts.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“Why?”
Was that what having a little brother was like?
“Because I know you. You will not be sneaking off to the front or staying with the carts, because you’re going to stay here, with Clover, and look after the house.”
Kaiden raised his chin. “Clover is going.”
I glanced at Clover, who was moving between our workers, checking things off on a piece of paper. “No, she isn’t.”
“Yes, she is. She was packing last night.”
Fayla gave him a look. “Ratting out your siblings never works out well.”
He stood a little straighter and announced in a calm voice, “I’m not ratting her out. I’m correcting a regrettable misunderstanding.”
Everard had no idea that his tiny clone was making my life difficult.

Kinda interesting Kaiden WANTS to be in a battle, so far hes avoided them he knows people die in them. Maybe Gort’s a bad influence. I wonder if she (Maggie) will end up a knight in the end that would rather be interesting giving her the standing she needs
I don’t think Kaiden wants to be in a battle, he just wants to stay close to Maggie and Raymond. The same with Clover. I’m betting they both go wherever our H/h go.
As for Maggie wearing armor, It might just be like putting someone in a bullet proof vest, just in case. It doesn’t necessarily mean she will be fighting.

Was it ever officially announced the amount by which the vellum doesn’t fit the UK Waterstones edition (with the sprayed edges)? I see that they have a white border, and I have a paper trimmer, so I am wondering if I am verrrrrry careful…

Just a thought, though I’m in Australia, I have the UK Waterstones special edition. So I should order the UK vellums when the UK store opens as they will fit my book (and vellums sold from the Australian store may not (if/when an Australian store is able to be opened))
Firstly, Australia was served by the UK publisher and UK edition – so as far as I can figure out, the store in Australia would have the UK sizing for sale anyway 🙂
Secondly, even if they are different Aus/UK , there’s a possibility the Australian printer will just be able to print and cut at whatever size so there will just be a few orders who get the different layout.
It should not take such drastic measures as ordering overseas, hopefully.

So I am in the US but ordered the UK Tor version through Blackwell. Should I invest in a nice paper cutter or will I be able to order UK vellums to be shipped in the US?

If you’re in the US: an option for the UK-sized vellums will appear next week in the store, for delivery only in the US. This is done to limit confusion and the amount of orders that would go for the wrong sized set.
There will also be a companion book to Kair Toren, which will have the arts, the snippets, the maps etc – if you prefer to w*it for that 🙂

I’m going to speculate on Fayla and possibly the misunderstanding. I realize Mod R can’t confirm or deny, but it’s going to be fun.
I think the misunderstanding is about the hair comb (see end of TKWNKM) Maggie is wearing at the end of book 1. It’s that or another misunderstanding that is numerous between Everard and Maggie.
I think Fayla is either in Everard’s service or in Solentine’s service. I’m leaning more towards Everard’s service since Maggie is in chainmail making soap. She could be teaching Maggie how to fight so Maggie doesn’t end up the way she ended up at the end of TKWNKM.

I’m curious about something…is there, within the vellum package, a suggestion of exactly WHICH page the vellum pieces would best be placed in? There are several possibilities for most characters (places we very first meet them AND/OR when we KNOW what each character’s name is)? Certainly there will be almost as many different placements as there are books to place them in…but I’m curious if House Andrews has recommendations? TY!

If you are in the UK, waiting for UK-sized vellums – there is a printer who has the designs and sizes and has produced beau-ti-ful samples. House Andrews are waiting on confirmation from the fulfilment centre for UK packing and shipping, and then that will made live in the store too.

hello Mod R. I’m pretty sure you answered this question on a prior blog, but just to confirm, will these vellum prints also be available when the goodie box comes out? Just trying to determine if I should order them now or wait for the box with all the goodies.
Ilona described the box as “modular”. You will get a chance to choose the tier of it. So if you already bought vellum, you can exclude it.
Disclaimer: the plans and dates for the box aren’t finalised or official, so all details are subject to change 🙂
It is well known that soap-making is an extremely hazardous hobby or small business venture, so it is nice to see that Maggie is finally taking safety seriously while doing it. To her original totally inadequate safety goggles and heavy work mitts, she has now added full-coverage mail armour. Excellent! Does the outfit include a helmet with a full-face visor?
It is disappointing to see the BDH falling down on the job so badly. The vellum pre-orders have been open for almost an entire day now, and the orders have only exceeded the initial estimates by 800%. Tsk! Tsk!
Of course, the international pre-orders have not yet been opened, so we may yet be able to redeem ourselves…

I am restraining myself (except for the Everard mug) because things get better. I would have gotten a European version of This Kingdom if I had known they would be so beautiful. (Tor could have done better.) I’m waiting on the Graphic Arts version for a audio version. I will wait at least 2 weeks before ordering Vellum unless there’s a shortage of lambskin and then I will order immediately.
For full clarification, modern vellum is made of cotton or cellulose, and is not the historical calf or lamb skin parchment.

Two further US special editions are due, on top of the announced OwlCrate one released in April.
The first is due in July but we still don’t have official permission under the contract to announce it. The publishers have to make the first step there and grand unveiling.

I wish I was in the 800% club but I will chalantly w**t for the UK size to fit my prettiest edition. But the size difference has made me realize that I kinda locked myself into overseas editions for the whole series or they won’t match. I always seem to choose the hard way on accident.

Well, I broke down and ordered this vellum set, and then went and ordered the hard cover, as a gift to myself. I’m turning 65 later this summer and my original celebration has to be cancelled for a surgery, so I’ll have this lovely book and eventually the vellum and other pretties to enjoy instead.

Oh. Whew! Just finally finished book #1 and I was afraid where it was going to leave us. I had visions of two, no three, very deadly and extremely upset men undoing all of Maggie’s hard work. But this snippet gives me much hope.

You can its called MyUS Shipping you get a “address” for yourself in the US and then they ship it to you wherever you are. It’s not the cheapest, but when you want somthing that’s not shipped internationally that’s how I do it…

US hardback: 6.6 × 1.4 × 9.5 inches
UK hardback: 16.5 × 4.1 × 24.2 cm
Allowing for everyone listing their dimensions in different units and in different order, it looks like International HB is the same/within 1 mm from the UK edition.

Have the vellums for the UK Waterstones edition been posted yet? I’ve tried to be chalant and started checking just “late last week,” but I still haven’t seen them and wasn’t sure if I missed the link somewhere.
