    • ModR – I know you only post “First” if one of the Horde asks, and it always seemed a little needy to me until it happened to me. Not needy at all. Just confirming our status as a stalking Horde member 🙂

        • I was thinking of a shirt that has the website banner at the top and with a “First” comment by Mod R. The one and only time I have gotten it I totally took a screenshot and wanted to make a shirt out of it lol

    • Feel a kindred spirit with you, Ronald… I, too, have a hard cover AND the audiobook. Which only previously occurred with the Ilona Andrews Graphic Audio books. Finished the hardcover and bought the audio less than 48 hours later because you can’t get housework done when rereading a dead tree book. Absolutely NO regrets.

  17. I believe it, it has spoiled me for anything else. I have started maybe 15 books since finishing Maggie and nothing is catching my attention. I bought a never fail Terry Pratchett in audio book and it failed. I willprobably not meet my annual reading goal this year because im hyperfixtated on Maggie.

    • SAME! I literally have discontinued reading more books since Maggie than in my entire life before. Can’t get past the first chapters. Or the prologues. Or sometimes the first few pages. Nothing measures up. I’ve tried switching genres, switching formats, everything. Nothing works.

        I’ve changed genre… it’s taking me a while. So far, I’m on Chapter 4 and it’s a good book…

    • Same here!! So glad to be a stalwart, celebrating, pat-on-the-back member of the Horde because I was so smart (okay, lucky) to find IA years ago. So much enrichment to my life!

    • Of course you’ll meet your goal, if only through rereads of This Kingdom while we wait for #2 to manifest in the real world. Also rereads of the last few years of House Andrews books…

    • Nice to know it’s not just me. Just finished latest reread and I can not settle w anything I start. The hives from my latest allergy adventures weren’t helping, either. At those r finally fading. Argh, just that kind of week, I guess.

    I was at a Bookish event this weekend and talking (clearly) about books and one woman who i only knew for the space of time at the crafting table turned to me and asked “Have you read THIS KINGDOME WILL NOT KILL ME?” and my husband was so impressed with my restraint for only cracking open the flood gates of praise and suggestions.

    She was not (yet) a member of the BDH but i have hopes for the stranger i will probably never meet again nor probably wouldn’t recognize in the future.

  31. i’m so glad i’m not the only one obsessed. i bought the ebook then the audio. according to my chirp ap i’ve been listening to it for 27 days straight. i just get to the end and start it over. of course i listen to it while commuting and while crafting so i get a lot of listening in and i’m not ready to move on yet. i have a massive amount of audio books for these purposes but it is sooo good i can’t move on yet. sigh.. when is the next one out?

  32. Well what did you expect? We don’t love books indiscriminately, the writing reels us in. When an author(s) is consistently putting out books that have great plots, characters we wish we could meet irl, world building that is incredibly interesting and well developed, I’m in…all in! We ask for more!😂

    So as a BDHer, an avid, sometimes rabid fan, I wish you the best of all things, you both deserve it. Congratulations 🎉

  34. Is it possible to please ask Tor to print more copies of the previously released special editions of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me? Since they see the book is popular?

    The reseller prices are…a lot.

    • Special editions are usually created through separate partnerships/licensing arrangements with the special edition retailer.

      Tor publishes the standard editions, and they cannot simply decide to print more OwlCrate copies, for example, themselves.

  37. Congratulations! Throwing rice paper confetti* with gleeful abandon!

    I too have had some difficulty in moving on from TKWNKM, and ended up finally finding something completely different _last night_ which worked and is a relief. Much as I love the book I do need to read something else between rereads!

    * It rains a lot in the UK and many places have rules about throwing confetti that will get cleared up by wild life rather than turn into a soggy, difficult to clear up mess.

    • There’s a simple solution for this!
      Throw edible, wildlife-safe confetti!
      Seeds of native vegetation, dyed bright colors(with wildlife-and-plant-safe dye)!
      You could even recruit small children to join in the sing and dancing and tossing of of confetti!
      Small children would *love* that! Iremember from when I was a small child myself

  44. Yeah! Congratulations! Well deserved! I have the Kindle version, Audiobook and the Waterstones hardcover. I bought the vellum so fast I missed it was for the US book so I’ll probably buy that too. I’m going to buy the UK vellum when it’s available too and am excited to order the special book edition whenever it’s available. Wonder if I’m overboard.

    • I ship Isadau and Solentine…. Arvel is not a good person deep down. He just fakes it really, really well.

      • Arvel meets Maggie, admires her, and his first instinct is to lie to her about who he is. That seems problematic at best. Then he drags her to the joedurar-bringing her to the attention of a great number of prominent ppl. And he is definitely not good at listening to what SHE wants, or what is best for her. Gotta love the line about Arvel making his interest into her problem!

  62. In the Science Fiction and Fantasy category, a couple of titles I recognized ahead of Maggie were continuations from well beloved series. Considering it is the first book in a series, and the first book House Andrews wrote in this category, that makes the win even better.

    I had to read the book 4 times before I could bear to put it away and try something else. My vote is that I don’t care how many words are in the sequel, I will read them all. Keep all the words

    I recently found the post linked below after ordering a copy of This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me from Blackwells (not Waterstones) in an attempt to acquire a copy of the book with beautifully sprayed edges. >.< I'm Canadian, so returning the book is not an option. Waterstones is out of stock on their website.

    Perhaps an art project would be in order? Do you know if there is a way to dry brush the edges of the book? Perhaps a strip of velum could be printed to slot over the closed book edges; although that won't feel the same. Let me know your thoughts.

  80. I belong to four book clubs and this is the first book I have ever finished and immediately went back and reread the whole book again. I just didn’t want it to be over! I hope the Ilona Andrews team write the sequel soon, because I can’t wait!
