A year ago Kid 2 tried to cheer me up. Unfortunately I was deep in some kind of funk, and Facebook has served up this memory for me.

  5. I kind of feel that the flying squirrel deserved to have their owner to play along (oh no – dead squirrel!) or at least get some applause.

  6. Yay Pikachu! I have no idea which show that little guy comes from, but that does not stop me from loving him! Halloween’s on a Tuesday this year. Think I’ll get some yellow face paint and sew up ears and a tail. Always a little interesting taking public transit in costume.

    • Pikachu is a character from “Pokémon Go” cartoon. I watched it with my sons in the early 2000’s.

      • My youngest brother was a Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh fan from his early years. Being so much older I used to take him and his friends to Forbidden Planet – which coincidentally sold US import SF&F books 😉 – at weekends. I’ve retained a bit of Pokémon knowledge and can even play the card game!

        • My son was also deep into Pokémon when he was little. Once his auntie was visiting and he started bending her ear, all about Pokémon, so she told him he could have 20 minutes.
          After a few minutes she interrupted the flow to ask a question. He paused, then asked if that would count as part of the 20 minutes, or would be extra time. She decided it would be part of it, so he gently said, no more questions please, auntie, and took his 20 happily.
          She’s still chuckling about it.

  14. OMG – these are hilarious! I spent 4 years in TX when I was in the Air Force, first San Antonio for basic, then Witchita Falls for tech school, the Abilene for permanent base, so I feel you about the weather. The only thing that made it bearable, for me, was Abilene is on the edge of desert area, which usually kept humidity lower, I do better with a dry heat than humid one. I had seen the squirrel one before, iit is funny and a bit freaky too.

  16. Got wonder Just HOW The Squirrel ‘learned’ That!!??!! WHY was The Squirrel try to frame the broom and by association, whom ever placed the broom in the 1st place? WHERE did The Squirrel Get the connection? Has The Squirrel been ‘allowed/subjected’ to watching Crime TV?

  21. I love the response to your daughter! too funny! My oldest is on a dig in Ireland. she fell into one of the 5′ deep cuttings (holes) and sprained her ankle pretty badly. She’s really bummed because this will limit her ability for the rest of the season (2 more weeks left)
    Me: least you didn’t fall on top of the skeleton you were excavating.
    Daughter: No, I fell in next to him. And he’s probably in better shape now.

  22. The Squizzle gets me every time. He’s so dramatic. And so determined to make sure the person filming understands he’s dramatic too. Just adorable! 🤣🤣

  32. I can relate to the Texas one because I joined the Air Force and left a very hot, dusty town in AZ to go to San Antonio, TX for basic training. Everyone (90% from the northeast) complained about the heat and I kept thinking ‘they don’t know what hot is’. Then they bused me to Wichita Falls, TX for technical school and I was there for about a year. I am not saying it wasn’t hot there. I am just saying it wasn’t Yuma, AZ hot is all.

    The Pikachu texts: I can understand both sides and it made me laugh. Also, it’s Pikachu and he’s just so cute. It was very sweet of your daughter to send you that.

    And, then the flying squirrel…LOL Why doesn’t he have his own show???!! That made me bust out laughing. I really, really needed that! Thank you!

  45. There is a great version of the squirrel on you tube with a voiceover, the squirrel asking for cuddles and snacks, and commenting as he adjusts the scene…

  46. Thank you!! Texas was cute and right on. I hate to make light of last year’s deep funk, but that one made me laugh out loud! And I’d seen the squirrel before. There was someone in UK (maybe) news who was showing it and the comments/laughter of her coworkers really made my day. It’s still amazing to watch. Who knew a squirrel could be so smart and funny!

  49. It was only 95 when I took a nap in my car during lunch today in San Antonio. Well, I did park in the shade.

  52. I love ‘Texas’ foam finger. So true. The heat is so hot that by the time you get to October and it finally is getting cooler, ‘cooler’ is 95 and it feels positively chill.

  56. I always giggle at the its hot memes. My favorite is “Im not saying (insert state or city) is hot but I just saw two hobbits toss in ring into a pit” 😂😂

    I love the heat though, born and raised in the Caribbean, 9yrs on Okinawa Jp and 5 yrs in North Carolina. We moved to NJ now and its hot but none of those places hot. I hope Tx cools down for you guys soon.

    I hope the squirrel got some treats for his overly dramatic death scenes.

  60. Omg, love the squirrel. Hate the heat, say again hate the heat. At age 50 turned hot, not the *sexy* hot. Lol. Give me Spring or Fall. All my curtains are closed, living the cave life.

  63. This is completely random, but I woke up this morning desperately wanting a snippet about Helen’s classmates taking a school field trip to Gertrude Hunt. And who else can I share that with but the BDH?

    • I miss Innkeeper so much. I feel bad saying it. Because I love everything else that’s been done and I know I will love everything else to come. But I do miss InnKeeper quite a lot.

      I’d love to see Helen come back for Christmas with Dina and Sean. And maybe a few other Vampires can join in.

      • OMG. I just had a thought. Can you imagine Erra and Caldenia meeting over tea at the Inn? They would becoming best friends!!! Dina’s head would explode imaging all the ways the two of them could end the known universe if someone pissed one them off and they plotted revenge together. Erra would understand Her Grace’s choice to put family over power. And vice versa. Both were raised to defend and rule and lead. And men and women cower before them. Caldenia’s weapon is manipulation, while Erra herself is the weapon.

    That squirrel does dead for a good 2 minutes and doesn’t get the attention that he wants. Poor baby. 😄 🤣 😂

  66. Everyone needs to laugh. Especially when Mother Nature is slowly cooking us. Love the squirrel one. ❤️❤️❤️ I think Louisiana likes to think its weather is hotter than Texas. Right now we are running neck to neck. Too darn hot. Can’t wait for that fat ole high pressure to move!!!

  67. Lol thanks for the laughs- my kids just discovered Pokémon and I don’t think I’m going to make it until school starts again- I think my brain is melting. Although the weather is gorgeous here, so won’t complain about that.

    On an unrelated note (as I don’t know when/where else to ask), is there any chance there will be an innkeeper sweatshirt whenever you guys are up to opening your store again? I know you’re still dealing with finishing your last opening up and I’m thoroughly enjoying my innkeeper t shirt and mug, but unlike Texas, it’s gets cold here early and stays cold for a long time, so fingers crossed you will have pity and add an innkeeper pullover (in gray? Black? Blue? Maybe asking too much? But also, I have small kids so white is…. Not always a smart wardrobe choice). 😂 Many (hopeful) thanks!

  71. That squirrel. The woman recording the video is saying “Oh it’s really boring. Eh. This is also fine” in Mandarin which just makes it even more hilarious. It’s like grandma conversation with a kid.

  74. Absolutely fantastic. Pikachu is a classic… the amount of time I spent leveling him up to 100 on the original Gameboy games… no wonder I have no social life now.

    Thanks for the laughs and I hope you are out of the funk. Thanks for the awesome books, too. The interactions of Derek and the other characters always makes me smile… even though he doesn’t smile as much anymore.
