4 Sleeps ’till Maggie

Blog, Fun, Maggie POST A COMMENT March 27, 2026 by Moderator R

Art @sincerely.candice.slater

“So House Andrews are on tour and Mod R is ‘in charge’. Pah. As if we need a babysitter. When did we ever get in trouble?”

“I have the alphabetized list here somewhere…”

“All right, so we’ve occasionally been in the wrong place at the wrong time. No one can link it back to us.”

“Mod R is cool anyway. She supports Horde rights.”

“And more importantly, she comes up with defenses for Horde wrongs. Which never happened.”

“Nice save.”

“Focus! What’s the situation?”

“Only four sleeps until This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me. Tuesday, we ride at dawn!”

“Um, I can’t actually ride at dawn. I couldn’t take time off work, sorry.”

“We ride at lunch break!”

“That works, thanks.”

“FOR MAGGIE! She’s one of us, one of us, one of us!”

“Imagine, dropped into her own favourite story… historically, we’ve dealt with that very well.”

“Have we, though?”

“Well, we’ve done Nav.”

“Eh. More like Nav did us.”

“The point is: CASTLES! Politics. Assassins. Questionable decisions. Emotional compromise. That’s our natural habitat.”

“Maggie’s adventures are a trilogy, Ilona confirmed it. Seems unsafe to me. That means w*iting for two sequels.”

“Dollar for the swear jar, we’ve talked about this. It’s not like House Andrews even do actual cliffhangers. Cliff-leaners, at most.”

“But with no one coming to save us…”

“Think about it. That means no one’s coming to stop us, either.”

“Ooooh. Game changer! So we can do anything.”

“Even better, my friend. We can do everything.”

Mod R: “Okay, let’s remember fluffiness … is that Andrea’s crossbow?!”

“It’s fine, I’m practically an honorary bouda.”

Mod R: “No weapons during Horde strategy! It’s Ferret Safety 101, people. We are regrouping, we are being chalant, we are—”

“Barsa?”

Mod R: “Resting. You need your strength.”

“Can we get a bedtime story? We’ll lie down and pretend to nap.”

Mod R: “Once upon a time, in the great world of readers, there lived a Horde…”

“Not a nasty, pillaging Horde!”

“The best Horde.”

Mod R: “…and they were given a book, for them and for all readers who have ever wished to get lost in a story…”

“And then, we made it into a bestseller?”

Mod R: “And then, we made it into a bestseller indeed. And we devoured dushegubilly ever after.”

“Read it again, Mod R?”

Me? Today’s must have in use and sight-line coffee mug: “My ability to Even has been SEVERELY COMPROMISED!”

Thankfully it’s TGIF!! Now hopefully I can heard the faculty and PhD students from blowing anything up in their labs until end of the day!

K-12 Ed here and our spring break starts today. I’m normally an “around-the-year” job but I took vacation for this break and I am so glad it lines up with a certain release. I get to enjoy it with no stress, then brace myself for the final charge to the end of the year,

It’s only 3 sleeps for some of us. I won’t go to sleep Monday night because the ebook will be available at 12:01am, so I’ll be staying up to wait for it. Sadly, I can’t pull all-nighters anymore, but I’ll be able to read for 2-3 hours, at least, before having to sleep.

    • Lauren E says

      March 27, 2026 at 11:50 am

            March 29, 2026 at 11:17 pm

I would hang tight until midnight as well, but here it will release at 06:01, so I can be assured of (trying for) a good night’s sleep.

Then it will be devour-devour-devour to my heart’s content, since I entered PTO from Tuesday to Thursday and Friday is a public holiday!

            Whoo!

And also, THANK YOU ModR for your efforts at maintaining our sanity while we wa*t!

          • Mechcat says

            March 29, 2026 at 11:37 pm

Experience has taught me that whenever possible I should avoid specifying limits to my reading plans. Using phrases like ‘a little bit’ and ‘just a few chapters’ tend to lead to problems. From my perspective the problem is that ppl come back 10 minutes (1-6 hrs) later, interrupt my reading (again!) and complain it’s been longer than whatever I said and blah blah blah. Sigh.

My wonderful husband will check to see if I need to b fed/watered, but has come to understand that otherwise only emergency communications should b attempted. Sadly, (happily?) I’m old now and need to eat/sleep/etc more regularly in order to function. And I’m pretty sure this doorstopper book will b more marathon than sprint, so sleeping is likely to b necessary before reading can resume. Like many here, I deeply relate to Elizabeth Wheatley’s Book Goblin. Plus my Clan (in Clash of Clans) will need me to declare war approximately a day after the precious appears. And showup daily to do war attacks etc. Don’t ppl understand new book day is a sacred holiday, occurring on an irregular schedule, and should not b disrupted!

I’m really struggling with what to read between now and Maggie release. It’s like trying to choose the kind of hors d’oeuvres that won’t make me too full before the great feast. Just finished Magic Claims and I’m just realizing how much of the Kate story is still w*iting for us in HA’s heads. We are such a lucky Horde indeed!

I can hear Ilona’s fancy keyboard clicking and clacking from here.

my one and only regret in moving from the west coast to the east coast is that books drop at midnight, not 9PM and those extra 3 hours at my age mean functional vs dysfunctional mom to K1, K2, K3.

Gahhh… I am so excited but also already feeling book withdrawal cause I just know I’m going to devour the book too fast and then I have to wait FOREVER for the next one. I shouldn’t read it. I should just wait and stare at it lovingly until all three books are out and then read all three of them. (Yeah right🤣). But for real, I have a cross country plane trip on April 13 and I’d like to say I’m gonna try to wait so I have a nice book to look forward to, but I’m not sure I can.

I’m finally understanding why my autistic son thinks w*it is an evil word🤦🏼‍♀️ I can’t wait and I’ve finished all my other books and I don’t want to start anything new because I know I need to devour Maggie as soon as it arrives and I don’t like leaving a book unfinished, so I’m hoping listening to IC on Graphic Audio will keep me going until next week….I would like to pretend I am nonchalant, but I belong to the BDH, so…🤷🏼‍♀️

Sighs. Excellent story, Mod. R! Thanks for all u do For the Horde! We’re doing our best to think fluffy thoughts.

But could we ride at midnight instead of w*iting until later? After all, presumably that’s when the ebook will drop. And I’m really more of a late night ‘cat…

    Thanks!

Yes. I am a Boomer, yelling, bc real life is interfering with Maggie.

Let me channel my inner MurderTree: next publication time, you will coordinate with my life. Do you wish to discuss?

    ….

Sorry. Sorry. Forget I was so non-fluffy. I would hate to cause more problems/anxiety for the nice, nice ALs. Or have ModR swat me on the (long) Family Nose. Sorry..

Perfect transition to the weekend and the release of Maggie. I worked a 70-hour week and ran a huge meeting. I am exhausted and peopled-out. I deserve reading Maggie with tea, Orro pastries, and no interruptions (ahem, needy children 👀). I need a room at the Gertrude Hunt. sigh…

I think I missed the Frinn-Day Interview so it was my first time reading it, thanks so much!

    Horde!!!

Rejoice with me, Blackwell shipped my book yesterday!!!! I might have it Tuesday!!!!!! Yipppeeeeeeeeee…………

Now, I just have to figure out how I’m going to read said book while attending a slew of meetings….

I might have to just tell them: this is this, and that is that, I do NOT wish to discuss? No comments, end meeting!

I have read the preview twice and then while waiting I found very long 600 PG novels of litrpg just to satisfy my craving. Then I reread The Inheritance three more times.
Thank goodness it is almost here….my version of chalant was running low.😅.
Thanks Mod R your commentary was excellent example of book loving horde that devours.

This! Nothing hurts more than w*iting for the next chapter somewhere in the middle of the book. No, a book is to devour completly, from first page to last, on release day.

Thank you for this awesome distraction from our w*iting, Mod R…you’re the BEST and our w*iting is almost over! 😁

I’m entered in a 5k race on Sunday, and I think to get myself appropriately pumped up at the starting line, I shall raise my fist dramatically to the skies and shout with a thundering voice:

    “For Maggie!!!! For the Horde!!!!!!”

    Couldn’t hurt! 😂

    • Mechcat says

      March 28, 2026 at 12:32 am

And, who knows, perhaps this will lead to other BDH peeps gathering around u as u all run in the same direction. Sure, it seems unlikely, but, hey, there’s a chance. Traditionally the BDH runs in a variety of directions at any given time. Just watch out for any ferrets underfoot. 😺

            (Better late than never answering:)

I set a new personal record for a 5k (still slower than the herd of turtles that passed me on the course, but I’m just ‘competing’ against myself so it’s all good!)

Sadly, I didn’t see other BDH members…but I choose to believe we were all incognito and practicing for our next ferret heist! 😂

I’m spending the entire day reading today….the BEST way to spend my 67th birthday!!!! 🥳🎉

I requested Tuesday off from my work months ago in anticipation of the book release. My office manager is my sister and I didn’t tell her why I was taking the day off. Over the weekend I mentioned that the book was coming out and I was really excited to read it. She connected the dots regarding the time off and gave me the side eye because I was missing work because of a book. Sigh. I don’t think we can be sisters any longer.

Loved the post, very chalantly remembered to pre-order a copy and very unchalantly screeched when my bookstore sent a mail that it was ready for me to pick up. German horde members, apparently German bookstores already have gorgeous copies and are willing to hand them over! They didn´t even ask for my firstborn! I don´t know if that´s a Europe-wide phenomena, but it might be worth a try if you prefer a physical copy.

Now I did not expect that last evening, so I still need to w… watch some Pursuit of Jade before I get ready to ride and knock on the doors when they open today.
