    I know this is supposed to be short, but I have been out of commission, and am just beginning to come up for air since my husband, Steve (married 45 years) died of cancer on May 14, in hospice facility for end of life care since May 8.

    The grief book is one of the 5 books on my nightstand right now, including 2 recent IA books, Seana Kelly’s latest, and a beautiful non-fantasy book called Peace Like a River by Leif Enger.

    I know HA have some roots here in WNC, and it is (or has been) difficult for me to go to large cities where their signings are held, but if they are ever nearby, I really want to meet them.

    It’s a hidden gem that is big on family, and like many of Neumeier’s books, features highly competent and honourable characters (which is also what I love about House Andrews books!)

However TLM was is a good change of pace. I’ve about 50 pages to finish and it is excellent. But my heart belongs to Ilona, I own every book the duo has written.

The overall concept is having supernaturals come out of the closet and live openly in the human world, and how’s that gonna work out?

    It’s a pleasant read about a magic-merchant who gets blackmailed into a quest for a relic by the sultan. She battles jinn who are out to get her and there are plenty of hints so far about her past and how she came to be.
    I’m about half way through and am enjoying it enough to finish but if it doesn’t get better I won’t read anymore of the series.

Elena the Brave, by Julie Mathison, is on my “virtual” nightstand – i.e. my phone’s reading app. It purports to be a YA book, probably because it’s a coming-of-age tale, but got a Kirkus starred review, and I enjoyed it just fine as an adult. It’s set mostly in “Old Rus” and shares a lot of folklore with HA’s Sanctuary, so I felt extra smart about being a bit ahead on the background while reading it. 🙂
