The list of people who think This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me is one of the best books of 2026 so far continues to grow.
Today, NPR published NPR Staffers Share Their Favorite Fiction Reads of 2026 So Far, featuring recommendations from journalists across the organisation.
And look who made the list:

NPR producer Liz Baker recommends Maggie’s adventures for “anyone who has ever imagined themselves inside a beloved book,” and gives us a shout-out (or at least I like to think so!) mentioning that it’s our girl’s extensive fandom knowledge that will help her save the kingdom.
Congratulations Ilona and Gordon, we are one proud Horde!
You can read NPR’s full list of favourite fiction reads of the year at the link I included above – thank you so much to Liz Baker and NPR for including This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me among such excellent company.

How exciting!
Certified First of June 23rd!
Am I first! 😱.
Whoo-hoo! More accolades! More potential Horde members! Our reach is vast and deep. 🎊🎊🎊🎊🎇🎇🎇🎇
Onward to more yummy reads when they are available! Being fluffy as much as possible on that.
***whispers – No Steve, you cannot get the ferrets involved in stealing the rough drafts and edited copies of the writings.***
Hey, I made it to second. Go me! 😂😂😂😂😂
Steve is probably contemplating other options. Clearly House Andrews has taken ferret heist protection measures with their dryer vents…. But what if he went in through Nav?
Steve would have to sneak around Chernobog and his wife. Possibly have to make small talk with Roman and Finn.
Oh, I got so close! Congratulations!!
Yay!!!
Congratulations! 🎉
I just saw that when I was on NPR and had to come check if it was known.
Congrats!
Congratulations again!! Everything you write is so amazing, including rough drafts and shopping lists! 😁
Congratulations! NPR chose well!
It’s delightful that the rest of the world is discovering the joy of HA’s vivid imagination! Their works are my favorite comfort rereads!

Woo-hoo! Congrats on making another list – and NPR to boot!
Weeeee, congrats!
Oh congratulations!! I feel like we should start bingo cards of the lists and accolades for TKWNKM! I wouldn’t be surprised if all cards were blackout bingo winners.
That is an awesome review from a fantastic list of books. I discovered an author I really enjoy on aNPR book list moons ago. I hope it grows your fan base as it did that particular author’s as this book is so deserving of all the good reviews out there.

Happy, Happy CONGRATULATIONS to HA! 🥳🍾🎉
Definitely feels like the Horde is growing…I was already a supporter of NPR, so this recommendation makes me extra happy.
The BDR has shown NPR our ways. 🙂 It shall be known. Congratulations!
And that’s what no glasses and not enough coffee gives ya. (smacks head) ARRGH for BDH and NPR. 🙂
BDR = Book Devouring Roar 😉
This what the Horde does when 1) we are happy for Mod R and House Andrews; 2) when the Horde is not very happy about something; and 3) when we want more, more, more.
I think that needs to be added to our never-ending dictionary.
This is awesome! Congratulations!
Congratulations!!! HA is the best! No surprise — TKWNKM is great!
That is WONDERFUL!! I’m so delighted!! I’m glad other people will be able to discover your wonderful books and love them, and join the BDH!
Congratulations!
Well-deserved acclaim!
My birthday is next month, and one of my presents to myself is re-reading This Kingdom — yes, yes it is 🙂
So well deserved! Congratulations!
It’s fun to see how many people are enjoying this book! Congrats to House Andrews! I hope these kind of reviews give them the strength to persevere through the hard work of writing!
Huge smile, happy congratulations (no surprise to the Horde, of course) and big hugs to House Andrews. You are a wonder of honesty, kind values and impeccable taste in characters.
This is so fun! Good job NPR! and thank you for sharing to brighten our day!
I like the bit in the review about the timeline changing with every butterfly she steps on – that caught my eye. Grand the book continues to impress – I’m a quarter into the audible version after reading it in a great big gulp and ending up very confused about who was who. Now I’m savouring every word – and so far keeping track of them all. It’s a good narration, lots of accents!
This morning I received a newsletter email from NPR announcing this list, and did I immediately look at the list to make sure TKWNKM is there? Yes, yes I did! My happy little BDH heart beat a few extra happy beats when I saw it! 😂
Congrats to HA: no denying the word is out, you guys are the best authors ever!!! (And Mod R, you are the best Mod ever for so many reasons, not the least of which is always sharing awesome news like this!) 🥰💕💕💕💕💕💕
Yeh! Well earned congratulations!
Wow! Big congratulations!
Monday on the Beacon.tv show Fireside chat, Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham of Critical Role were talking about their current favorite books. She said that This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me is on her must read list because Ilona Andrews is her favorite author!!
If you haven’t watched Critical Role’s Araman live role playing series, it has a similar vibe to TKWNKM, but very different plot.
Woo Hoo! Congratulations!!!
Also, my dental appointment today was spent describing the basic premise of the book without spoilers. (In between fingers and tools in my mouth). Much laughter ensued.
She made me right down title and authors on her prescription pad before I left.😂
Felicia Day’s book group on goodreads also made it their July pick for the book club.
Felicia Day has a book group?!! I must join!
Congratulations on the excellent press!
In different but related news, did anyone else see this delightful headline?
“Gen Z Is Now Demanding ‘Chalant’ Relationships. Here’s What That Means”
The Horde is everywhere! Most excellent!
welp. i feel like i read something from ilona about the goal of maggie was to introduce them as authors to new people.
safe to say it’s been a resounding success.
congratulations, house andrews!
