Graphic Audio Innkeeper Sale
The Innkeeper series is 40% off on the Graphic Audio website. From their promo
Her Inn is magic and thinks for itself. Meant to be a lodging for otherworldly visitors, the only permanent guest is a retired Galactic aristocrat who can’t leave the grounds because she’s responsible for the deaths of millions. Save 40% OFF Innkeeper Chronicles By Ilona Andrews. https://loom.ly/30BVftQ
If you are wondering how this is different from Audible, GA has their own app. So you install just like you would the Audible app. All of those titles are also available on Audible, but I am not sure if the sale extends there. I will ask Mod R to check. (Update Mod R: Sale only applies to the GA website.)
Annual Mammogram Reminder
Those who follow the blog know that my mother died of breast cancer. Part of it was the Russian health system, but a lot of it was that once she had given birth to my brother, she decided that annual screenings were optional. This is why my children have never seen their grandmother.
The week before Dragocon I was running around like a tornado, trying to do al the things and finish the books, and then a reminded popped up on my phone. I was due for a mammogram. I thought about delaying it, but it takes 20 minutes, so I scheduled it for Monday the 26th. On Monday I dropped what I was doing, went to get it done, and my results came in today. We are good to go for another year.
Mammograms do not catch every incidence of cancer, but they catch a lot of it. If you skipped yours, please make the appointment today. You don’t even need a referral.
Maggie Has Been Sent to the Editor
The new draft of Maggie the Undying has been sent to the editor yesterday. It came in at 182,000 words, and we are not sure how much of that will be kept. But as of now, it is a respectable book size.
How long is that?
- The Fellowship of the Ring – 187,790
- Dune – 187,240
- Great Expectations – 183,349
So there you go. The manuscript will still need lots of edits and will undergo significant changes, but it is complete. It is written. It has a beginning and an end, and stuff happens in the middle.
Hehe. Hehe. He. <– evil laugh.
Schedule Going Forward
We are going to take a week off and decompress, and then we will likely begin work on Wilmington 3. We are planning to begin the serial somewhere around October 1st, although that date is fluid. As you usual, you will get most of the story but not all of it.
To the person who was terribly upset last time because Sanctuary was just like “what I read on the blog,” you may want to skip the serial this time so you will feel you got your money’s worth.
And now I have a poll for you.
Please answer honestly, because things like cover art take 3-6 months in advance and we want to make sure we can plan accordingly.
To clarify, this collected Wilmington Years edition would be in addition to, not instead of the Wilmington 3 individual book.
Arika says
First?
Also I would spend obscene amounts on money for anything House Andrews gives but I voted for the hardcover for convenience sake despite already having the paperback version of the first two Wilmington books.
Rae says
I just buy physical (preferably hardcover) copies like trophies for my completed ebooks.
Tempest says
Wishing you a restful break. May there be all the naps and tea you desire. And other things that make you happy. We’ll try to behave-ish over here.
Doing the mammogram thing on Monday. Will I treat myself to a nice meal afterward? You betcha.
Here’s the obligatory JOIN THE GRAPHIC AUDIO CULT!!! (And that’s fine if you don’t want to join. The cult isn’t for everyone, but I’m sure having fun over here.) So many things to love in the Innkeeper audios, but Arland’s various, “I am but a humble soldier . . .” is high on my list.
Looking forward to the next thing! And being fluffy and chalant about the timing.
Breann says
We have really good Kool-Aid over here at the Graphic Audio cult. 😉😄
Raye says
Yes, Arland is amazing!! Love GA!
Sue says
I try to bring everyone over to the GA cult. Arland yes, but and I cannot stress this enough, Barsa.
Kat says
My only issue with GA audiobooks is that some books become Abridged. I noticed this on Hoopla when comparing original audiobook size to GA version. None of the Ilona Andrews books have this issue, so it probably a publisher decision. I listend to both versions of a book to see how it was done and GA lost small comments from sub characters. So it wasn’t awful, but we need to be aware of these things when purchasing. Other than that I love their work.
Breann says
I think some of the cut part is “he said”, “she said”, etc. When you have different people doing the parts, you don’t have to say all that. Now, I’m sure they do some editing, but overall I love how it turns out! It’s not like when books become movies and you lose a lot. Maybe some of the others needed a bit more trimming that IA didn’t? 🤷♀️🤗
MichelleD says
I love GA but you are right about the cuts. It’s nothing extreme but I noticed it recently in Kate #4 or #5. It was a very small piece with a tiny side character verbal exchange that was gone. It’s not the same type of abridged audio you get where they cut 1/3 of the book. This is literally just a line or two.
Susie says
You’re all making the cult seem attractive. Lots of insider humour and cute banter. Kook-aid. What’s not to love. Do I need to build any alters?
Mmmm. I’ve been avoiding the medical squishing thing so this is a good kick in the pants.
Kathi says
I would buy the ‘simple’ hardcover or the collectors edition as long as it’s a hardcover book.
My wallet voted for the simpler (likely cheaper one) but if the collectors edition exists, I would buy it instead 😅
Emily says
I would buy the ebook for short stories. happy to pay for extra content. I don’t care if all the stories are in one place.
p.s. congrats on turning in the manuscript & best wishes for the time off!
and anyone who complains about the serial. . . I’m trying to think of a suitable pox to wish upon them. it’s mind-blowing that anyone would complain about paying a modest amount for the conclusion of it. people spend more on coffee everyday than an ebook.
the serial is such a gift and labor of love. it’s not just about getting free fiction, it’s about the “bdh book club experience” in the comments, getting moderated by the fabulous Mod R and occasionally having the awesome House Andrews chime in. instead of devouring it in one sitting I’m forced to nibble a morsel at a time and then ponder and wonder and anticipate.
I am thrilled to buy the final product to say thanks, let alone have my own copy to re-read at my leisure.
you are the best. wish you the best.
mz says
You are so right about the serial. I love (and hate, bc I have no p*tience) reading bits and trying to think where everything is going. I also note, for the serial complainer, that things tend to change and wonderfully expand from the serial to the final book.
And how can you not love the back and forths and ModR comments and the AuthorSwoops?
mz says
Looking forward to whether there will be a moat.
And mammoth and big rhino charges (fingers crossed)
mz says
FWD! (sorry)
Steph says
+1. Well said!!
Alix Maret says
Couldn‘t agree more on the serial!
I love checking in regularly for a treat and then gobbling it all up again in one sitting, once it‘s published.
How can anyone complain about your generosity in sharing your work in process? To me, buying the book is an expression of gratitude, redeeming the IOU on all my advanced reading pleasure, AND it allows me to savor the subtle tweaks and additions. (I’m looking at you epic epilogues and bonus shorts!)
Bea says
+1 ditto
I love that IA gives us the choice! I didn’t read the Roman serial, but purchased the audio and ( by accident) 2 signed paperbacks🤦🏽♀️.
I was super chalant and fluffy🤷🏽♀️
Kat says
Wow, a signed book as a gift for a friend! Awesome pre-holiday shopping.
Karen says
You wrote just how I feel!!!
Thank you House Andrews and Mod R for ALL of it!!
jewelwing says
Every bit of this.
Ginni says
One of the best book experiences of my life was being in the Horde during the Sweep of the Heart serial. Oh I loved the giant cat, and I kept voting for Oond because I really wanted to see Kosandian marry a fish! (Team Jazz Fins) I loved feeling like our votes made some sort of difference in the final book. It’s still my favorite Innkeeper for that reason, although Sweep of the Blade is a very close second.
njb says
I have to agree! That serial was amazing amounts of fun. Reading through the comments was both heart warming and funny! Being part of the BDH has brought me so much happiness.

LCKM says
I completely agree with everything above – I buy everything in ebook anyway so it’s basically irrelevant to me if the books are in one edition or three since they’re all on my device anyway, but I’ll purchase for any additional content the authors put out. Apartment living and frequent moves mean all of my favorites are on my devices, with me wherever I go, and I just don’t collect physical books at this point.
I personally really enjoy reading the serial and then seeing how my memory of it stacks up to the final version (which I also purchase in e-book). I’ll often save the serial snippets until I’m having a bad week/ day and then read a couple at once, it’s like a little treat in my day (read with the latte I also buy as a treat…) like others, I really love the collective nature of the serial and getting to see the process! Can’t wait for the new Wilmington 3 – I love all of your worlds and the narrators within them, but I think Kate will always be my favorite (closely followed by Hugh/ Julie who are tied for second, shout out to Roman though)
Desirée says
I voted for collector, but would gofor Hardcover as well 🙂
Tink says
I voted for hardcover, but I’ll buy whichever print version is available because I have all of the other HA books in print and want to keep the collection going.
I’d also buy the ebook because it’s more convenient to pull from the collection when I’m in the mood to reread, and especially if I’m in an unexpected line somewhere and I don’t want to start/continue a book that might make me start to cry to get pissed if I have to stop reading because *of course* my name/number would be called right when I get to the good part. And even though I had LASIK, I might still need to get reading glasses someday, so being able to increase the font size as I get older is a definite plus.
ReadKnitSnark says
I would totally buy the bundled ebook (Wilmington 1-3 + extras) for convenience. But I still want Wilmington 3 on its lonesome!
Series bundles are the best thing for a series reread! No trying to remember what the next book is titled; no digging around the device to find said next book; just finish one book and flip the page to start the next one. Bliss!
Bec D'Cunha says
I’m a solid e book reader these days. But the reasoning is accessibility. My hands can occasionally handle a paperback, but honestly it might be time to see the rheumatologist again. And as we’re currently in a caravan, I can’t afford the weight. 😞
Manymes says
I’m also an ebook reader. I can enlarge the print in order to see it.
Stacey says
I read Lord of the Rings (twice in high school). I also read sword of shanara. I have read dune. I did not read Great Expectations. i have also read some of the 400,000 plus European and American juggernauts so bring it! (with all the patience of course)
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows apparently comes in at 198,000 by the way.
Patricia Schlorke says
Oh my gosh with holding the Sword of Shanara and all the books following it hurt my wrists.
Shogun, Noble House, and the rest of James Clavell’s books did the same thing.
Thank goodness for Nooks, Kindles, and other forms of e-reading. Saves the hands and wrists from hurting after a while.
Stacey says
yes! ebooks are great for the wrists. I was especially bad. As a kid I used to read at night by the light of a doll you had to push the stomach of. I can still do fantastic back arches because putting the book down, holding the doll, and perching on my elbows was the best way to secretly read.
Merano says
I can see the ads now: “Shorter than Great Expectations!” 😊
Nancy H says
I read Great Expectations in junior high English. You didn’t miss anything.
I love long books but have a bad habit of skimming. the thing I find with the serials, is that I appreciate every little detail.
Lenore says
+1 on the Great Expectations in HS
Robyn says
Glad you has a great time at Dragoncon!
Looking forward to Wilmington 3! And Maggie the undying!
I voted for the regular paperback, but would probably buy the ebook too.
Have fun on your week off!
Robyn says
“had” a great time!
I swear I proofread my message!

Enjoy the week of rest!
Thank you for the updates 💗 hopefully all those words will keep the BDH busy a while. I always picture us like Thor throwing his coffee cup and proclaiming “That was GOOD I’LL HAVE ANOTHER”

Also I would need 2 copies – my daughter has fallen in love with the Wilmington Clan & the books!! I’m so excited to share your worlds with her. ❤️
Penty says
I would buy the ebook for convenience and a collectors edition.
Patricia Schlorke says
Congratulations on getting Maggie done. I have read many a thick book and wished for an e-reader at the time. The wrists hurt holding the book after a while.
For the Wilmington series, I chose the convenience. However, I would also buy a collector’s book. Couldn’t choose both in the poll.
Enjoy the break. You both deserve it. As for me, as part of the Horde, I will be part of the fluffy branch of the Horde and look forward to read the weekly Wilmington 3 serial. 😁
Jazzlet says
I missed that there were extra short stories from the blog, if I had taken the time to read that sentence properly I would have voted for the ‘ebook for convenience’ instead of for ‘not interested’. I am clearly not properly awake yet, which given that I’m in the UK and it is after 5 pm is . . . not good.
However ‘Yay!’ for turning ‘Maggie’ in, and ‘YAY’for the length!
I hope you have a restful week, enjoying your pleasures and sleeping well.
Moderator R says
For anyone who may have missed them, you can always check the Free Fiction page on the website for all the blog stories https://ilona-andrews.com/free-fiction/
For the Wilmington Years, currently we have No Heroes 🍄🟫 and Purpose 🦂
Jazzlet says
Thank you Mod R!
I have read them, it’s just the convenience of having everything in one place would be nice. My new lap top is run on Linux, and there isn’t a Kindle emulator, so until I get my head round the other options I’m still using the old lap top for reading books. I try not to use it for anything else, like checking up here as it is so so slow and you know how BDH members feel about having to w**t. 😉
Kim D says
A bit late seeing this, but in case you aren’t aware, Amazon offers a web Kindle interface at read.amazon.com that should be accessible from any Chromium browser, desktop or mobile. Hope that helps you read in a more comfortable reading experience <3

I always buy copies of whatever you write, in every format offered…e book, paperback (trade and/or mass market pb), hardback and collectible edition. Am I obsessive? Nah, just a long time collector of authors who write stories I like to read and the best way I know how to express my appreciation of the pleasure you give me is to do my small part to support your writing by buying ALLLLL the books.

I would buy the collectors’ edition if it wasn’t out of my money range but unfortunately I can only read ebooks due to health issues.

I want to clarify my vote!
I live in Argentina, I learnt english so I didn’t have to wait to read your books.
but nice things don’t travel here.
so, if I was not so away, that the cost of shipping is 4 times the cost I will buy the effing of a collector’s edition.
I really really appreciate and I’m grateful for your work!
Nancy Weaver says
Heaven would be a series as long as “Bob’s Saucer Repair” 💋
Ela says
I wish there was multiple choice, because I’ll buy a ebook (because I prefer ebooks) but if there is a “collector edition with illustrations and cover treatment”, I’ll buy this too (in addition to ebook).
Rohaise says
Me too!
JDavis says
Me too. Ebook for convenience, paperback for my shelf collection, and illustrated collectors edition for the beauty and additional items. And the audio, of course.
Paulette says
I prefer a real physical book to read, preferably a hardcover (special edition especially) but I also get the ebook for convenience since I often reread IA books as comfort reads in places I can’t always bring a physical book. To be honest, if the question was which version would get the most use, I’d have to say audio since I listen while working and in car and the narrators have always been fantastic. (So yes, I also get audio). I don’t do this for all authors or even all books. Just the Desert Isle keepers.
Glad to see I’m not the only one who gets multiple copies!
House DeMille says
aaah serial!!! Wilmington 3 so soon? Yay!!!
I didn’t think I would be able to enjoy a serial format, but I found following Sweep of the Heart a wonderful experience.
Gave you a little something extra to look forward to every week, and it was fun to read the comments.
It felt like back in the day when TV series were one episode per week and you had to wait till next week and had all that time in between to discuss it with your friends…
House DeMille says
in terms of the poll, I might be interested in a collector’s edition but I know it would most likely be out of my budget, so it had to be a “not interested” for me. Normally I can only afford ebooks, and I would rather just get the 3rd ebook individually since I have the first two already.
sarah hindson says
I have to select E books now, my eye sight is failing and the kindle gives me giant print 🙂
Looking forward to reading all of your amazing hard work
– Thank you both for sharing your imaginations with us xx

I want to echo your comments about mammograms. Also please continue to do your own self breast exams monthly – no one knows your breasts better than you do! In 1994, I found my own lump even though I had been having annual mammograms. Yes it was cancer which led to a partial mastectomy and removal of 22 lymph nodes. In 2022, at an annual diagnostic mammogram, the provider said the new protocol is a test every 6 months (one diagnostic mammogram and other breast MRI or ultrasound) for those who have had breast cancer. The MRI 6 months later indicated an abnormality. Further testing indicated a small cancer in the opposite breast for which I had a lumpectomy. I am now in remission once again but continue my every 6 month testing. I am 75 and glad to have gotten to be that age. Sorry I went on so long.
Gwen says
Every success story is wonderful to read and encourages others to get that quick check up! Keep on acting like good wine – age until you are perfect!!
Gwen says
THANK YOU for reminding The Horde to get a mammogram. I was going to skip this year because of my husband’s condition but my clinic called and said “pick a date”. The spot they found was about the size of a sewing pin head but was made of 3 different cell types that are known to change to a form of cancer if left alone after a period of years. It took 5 weeks to get the extraction scheduled but it was worth the 20 minutes the mammogram took on the first day!!
eww says
I would buy the ebook and the hard cover editions. I tend to buy both print and electronic forms of my favorite books so I can have portability as well as something to read if the power is out for an extended time or if reading a screen is giving me a headache. Excited to hear about Maggie being done if not tweaked yet.
Jane Compeau says
This summer, my 45-year-old daughter went in for her routine mammogram and they found a lump that was positive for cancer. (She gets a routine mammogram because I am a breast cancer survivor.) After many tests and one outpatient surgery she is cancer free, with a schedule for 30 some radiation treatments, a prescription, and a very low threat of recurrence. Things have changed so much in 30 years! She doesn’t have to get chemo “just in case” because the tests show what type of cancer she had, with known recurrence and mortality rates. Every step after the initial diagnosis has been encouraging.
My cancer from 30 years ago was also found because of a mammogram. Please get yours! Your children and grandchildren will thank you.
MariaZ says
So glad treatments have changed so much. I remember all 18 horrific months my mother had to go through of chemotherapy for stage 4 ovarian cancer. As so many folks in the day stated, “if it comes back I will not go through that again”.
SoCoMom says
Thank you for a timely reminder.
I chose eversion because I have no new book room and I love being able to take your books anywhere my phone goes. a soecial edition would tempt me.
Yay words! ALL the attentions!

I have to say “squeeee!” For Wilmington 3. Excited is what you would say if you were trying to be nonchalant.
Sheila says
Wish there had been an option for “recommend hardback or paperback purchase for my library”. I would have chosen that option immediately.
Thanks for all you do for the BDH.
Christinaregina says
Request the book(s) be purchased by your library. I do the purchasing at mine and we almost always honor requests. I buy all the IA titles for my personal collection and then purchase them for my public library. I have recruited quite a few readers to the Horde. 😉
Wont says
On the Wilmington poll, I voted for the printed book. I like to have all your books on my shelves. I also always buy the ebook, but I couldn’t show that. 🙂
Michele G says
I love Willmington
– would love a special edition
I am in a smaller place and trying to declutter 😢
Sharla says
Enjoy a restful week!
I’m excited to see how Maggie’s journey as an idea to book to publication unfolds 🙂 However, I love my continuing series with characters I already care about and am invested in their imaginary futures (and pasts!) so I am really looking forward to Wmton 3! And the poll was fun, but, the poll is inaccurate. Because I, and many of the BDH, will purchase an ebook, a paperback and/or hardcover, as well as a special edition.
Thank you all for the posts!
Merano says
I’m really loving the Wilmington stories! Being a fan of lost civilization tales and an archaeology buff, I can’t wait to find out what else is locked up in those “silos.”
kommiesmom says
Unfortunately, one can only vote for a single choice. I would buy the ebook *and* either of the hardbacks – possibly both – though I would prefer the fancy one. The fancy hardback got my vote, but be aware that many of us will buy neat things, just because they tempt us. (I have bought the Subterranean press version of almost all your available books, even though I already have them in ebook and hardcopy – and then bought the fancy ebook, too.)
May I second the mammogram advice? I reached the age of 67 without having a mammogram. (Stupid – I know. My doctor never mentioned it and I didn’t either.) When I changed doctors, my new doctor asked when my last mammogram was and I had to say “I’ve never had one.”
When my first mammogram happened, they found a very small, non-aggressive lump. I had it out the next month and had radiation therapy, but not chemo. I have been cancer free for eight years. Even though I am 75, I still get a yearly mammogram, just in case.
Do it, ladies. It doesn’t take long and is only a bit uncomfortable.
And don’t forget that guys can have breast cancer. If you notice a lump, fellows, get it looked at! The BDH needs everyone it can acquire and hold on to…
Luciana says
I adore these books but have the first two as ebooks and will buy the third as soon as available, so I wouldn’t buy a collected edition.
H says
I would and have bought ebooks for convenience, but always add any and all print books I can. If only there was a “yes all”, lol. C***. Now you reminded me I have to schedule one because I’m overdue. oh well. As always thanks for all you do.
Therese says
I know it’s not an option, but if there were mass market paperback-sized copies available for purchase, I think that would be route I would go. I have all of the original Kate Daniels series in that size, so it would be nice for the Wilmington stories to be packaged in the same size for continuity.

Thanks for mentioning the extra short stories from the blog. I do not understand how I managed to miss Purpose (the Kate and Luther Short Story) as I haunt the blog every day, but I was thrilled to discover something that I hadn’t seen before! I hope you have a relaxing week!

Glad you had a nice time at Dragon con.
I only buy e books and almost never buy box sets. I only buy a box set if it is the only way to obtain a book. There are two reasons for this. First, I like to look the book covers. Box sets usually only give one cover. Second, I can never remember the title of the box sets and often it takes me longer when I want to find it on my kindle again to reread.

With this wordcount it should be Maggie the Mighty. I can’t wait. It will be glorious.
Normally I buy paperbacks, but for this one hardback will be a must. ^^

Since I could only vote for one, I just want to say I would buy any physical book edition of the Wilmington Years 1-3!
(Voted for special edition)
njb says
I voted ebook, but I really wouldn’t mind a signed paperback. With or without illustrations. No hardbacks tho, thanks. They’ve all been eliminated from my library. Thanks!
Bookworm says
It didn’t give me the option to pick two. I would buy the ebook and a collector’s edition.
Elenariel says
The options in the poll refer to the collection of all 3?
I mean, the ebook option is for personal buys as “I have 2 ebooks, I’ll buy another ebook” or “I’ll take the ebook of the new bundle edition instead of just the third single book”?
I’d like a hardcover illustrated collection but all depends on where it would be available: shipping costs, taxes and custom duties…
Smileygirl3090 says
It depends how much international shipping is… I really love the pretties and have The Kinsmen Universe but sometimes cannot afford all of the beautiful books. On the subject of pretties – LOVE the GraphicAudio cover of Magic Strikes with sand falling through her fingers, what an awesome detail, hair braided, Slayer ready…
Kalynx says
First and most important, Im glad your mammogram was clear.
Second, I hope you have a lovely and restful vacation.
Now to far less important things. I dislike paying multiple times for the same content. I own the first 2 Wilmington books and am excitedly anticipating the 3rd. I’ll likely buy the bundle in order to get the stories but it’s frustrating. Less so than the multiple anthologies that other authors publish many of their extra stories in but not my preference. Would it be possible to offer a digital compilation of just the stories in addition to the printed bundles? For a fee obviously. I’m not sure if the cost to you would be worth it but I’d think it would be significantly less than doing a printed version.
Amanda says
As much as I would love the special edition covers etc, and I imagine this is the same for anyone outside of the USA/Canada – it becomes prohibitively expensive to purchase. Hardbacks are generally available in every country, but special editions are usually done from the author’s country of residence, and with postage costs from the USA to anywhere else so dire (and has been for over a year and no signs of this changing), so special edition Ilona Andrews books will be a no go for me. Ill end up doing my usual hardback when available, softcover when not, and ebook all the time, no matter the content.
Judith Brosnan says
It’s a big fat ✔️for Mammograms from me. I had my last one last yr. In the U.K. we have our last scheduled one at 70 . My mother had BC followed by secondaries of Bone Cancer so I’ve been religious about keeping the appts. This time they picked up a tiny lump which I wouldn’t have felt myself so had a lumpectomy within 6/52 followed by radiotherapy. This yrs mammogram is ALL CLEAR🙏🏻☺️.
But DEFINATELY keep those appts & men also as there is a rise in male BC.
I’m afraid I don’t ‘do’ audio books😳. I know but I can’t help it🤪

I voted for the ebook but I would also like the collector however it comes. And yes I would already have bought the paperback because that’s how I roll. Someday there will be an EMP and I will need to have print editions. Thanks for all the entertainment and wonderful worlds you share with us!!!
Marcia Sundquist says
truthfully I would save up and get the hardback and the ebooks too. the thing is I have all the ebooks on kindle and Barnes and Noble on my tablet and laptop so I can’t lose them, I lost the books I had in a fire ten years ago, since a few of them are out of print, like the Questing Beast, I switched over to ebooks now I have my stories with me all the time lol . plus now I have plenty of storage for the books without being a horder at my house if wecombining my husband, son and daughter’s into physical book from the tablets we could open a book store. my count of books is in the area of 2 thousand on B&N, only 15 hundred on kindle lol so yeah we have a little reading problem 😂
Rebecca says
I am super excited about Wilmington 3! I would also like to have all short stories from the blog in ebook (and hopefully audiobook) format.
I am really anxious to read all the things that are likely to come out in the near future— including Maggie! Blood and Magic 2, Blood Heir 2, the Innkeeper Duology— all are much anticipated!
Then of course there is the Arabella trilogy we were promised… No? Eh, worth the shot! 🙂
Angie says
I don’t think I am alone in saying that I will not only buy the ebook, but the audiobook version too and the Graphic Arts version of that… as is evidenced by the fact that I am listening to the GA version of Magic Rises right now, even though I own both Kindle and Audible versions. After multiple moves, I no longer burden myself with hardcopy versions of anything except the random graphic novel, though if you put out your novels in that format, I’d buy Kate in that too.
David D. says
Multiple options are true for me. I would buy a collector’s edition. I would also buy an eBook of the collection, in addition to the normal Wilmington 3 book.
David Becher says
I would love to have hard covers or trade size of your books, but storage space has become an issue. I rarely buy anything but ebooks anymore.
Alix Maret says
Congratulations on completing Maggie and sending it on its way!
What excites me most about the word count is knowing how much you do with your words. You don‘t do gratuitous verbiage; every word matters.
I‘m so looking forward to 2026!
Nancy W says
Hurrah for Maggie & Wilmington 3. I voted E book.
Double hurrah for a clear mammo. I had a lumpectomy yesterday. My mammo in 2018 showed an abnormality that I never followed up on & with a provider change, the system lost it. Anyway feeling ok & my awesome surgeon is very optimistic.
Jean says
Sending a high five and very gentle air hugs!!
Sabrina says
Congrats on a clean mammogram and on finishing the edits! I hope you’ll have a nice, quiet, restful week!
@ModR: I tried the poll, but it tells me “Unable to obtain lock for Poll ID #65”. No idea what it means, and if it’s a me-problem please just ignore, but I figured I’d flag it 🙂
Moderator R says
please try clearing your cookies and then try again. Just tested the poll and it’s working 🙂
Elena says
So sorry about your mom. Thank you for the reminder!
I wish I could vote for more than one option. I have all the books on my Kindle, so I’ll definitely buy the ebook – but I’d love to have the collector edition with illustrations, too (especially if those would be Luisa Pressler’s illustrations!)
Jukebox says
As much as I would love print collectors editions, living in a small apartment with unsure housing security (and having moved 7 times in 13 years) has left me having to choose practicality. One day I’ll build my library back up again…
(But if we ever get American editions of the French KD books, I’ll be soooo on them!)
VannaRR says
I voted for the ebook option but I would also be interested in the fancy collector edition but I can’t say for sure if I’d purchase it. That would depend on where I am financially when it comes out, ya girl is saving for her next year in grad school…
Wendy says
Congratulations on sending your book to final (?) edits! Can’t wait to read it. The BDH is probably like – couldn’t it be longer? 🤣
Carolin says
Glad you got the Maggie draft to the Editor and that you decided on a week off. After so many things going on may your trip be refreshing and restful.
After ModRs lovely Kate Quote post I’m now re-reading Wilmington. If it indeed ends up on the Blog as a serial I’ll be delighted to read it and the comments section as well of course. If your Imagination gets drawn elsewhere I’ll gladly w..t for that too while cheering you on. I still am so glad that we’ll get to read Maggie which I loved from the first teaser snippet….
Rachel says
you didn’t have an option for both ebook and paperback or ebook and hardcover 🙂 so I chose what I’d read first.
Donna A says
Maggie, Maggie, Maggie! Mammogram, mammogram, mammogram! Yeah, yeah, yeah!
With my cheerleader chant over, I just want to throw in a psychic (ha-ha) prediction of 179,304 words for Maggie’s final count (but with an optimistic yet unlikely and unrealistic option of 192,101).
Nifty says
I clicked that I would by the ebook for convenience, but the truth is that I digest 99% of my reading material via audiobook. So if there were a 3-in-1 audio release, I would buy that for convenience. I really liked how Wilmington 1 flowed right into Wilmington 2 in the recent dual release.
Jo L says
ideally the ebook single and combined will come out at the same time. I would buy it for a bit more $ for convenience if it’s released at the same time. if it’s delayed I’ll buy the individual and probably not go back and get the combo book after
Jan F says
I only got to pick one so I said the electronic version of volume 3 to get it into my hands as quickly as possible and I have the volumes 1 & 2 bundle in electronic format. But I wouldn’t stop there. I would immediately start haunting the website until I could preorder the collectors edition with all of the yummy extra stuff. And finally I would also submit comments on the Graphic Audio site and plead for a dramatized adaptation of all three. I want it ALLLLLL !!!
Have a great break, you deserve it.
Margaret says
I agree with the mammogram reminder. A year ago a 7mm growth was found in my breast. I had a biopsy followed by a lumpectomy. No spread was found. Now a year later my mammogram show no new growths. YES early detection is important.
Siobhan says
I could only pick one, when I would buy the ebook because of the convenience and short stories, but a collector’s version (which is what I voted for) for the pretty.
Mzcue says
TBH I purchase books only in digital and audio formats. When multiple books are issued together, it gets harder keep track of where I am when I switch back and forth between ebooks and audio. I would be much more inclined to purchase additional short stories if that were an option than a bundle.
B says
I would buy the ebook (I filled out the poll) at least once and maybe on multiple platforms but you probably don’t want to budget based on how scatterbrained i might be pre release. I would also buy an audobook that runs through the three without pause for long drives but that is probably just me.
Dallas says
I buy the e book so I can read asap but also buy the paperback as I have all the others. I am in New Zealand so takes a wee while for the paperback to arrive
Vickie L says
you forgot the poll option of ” Audio book” because I’m at the stage of life where my only me time is during my driving commute.
Moderator R says
It was not forgotten 🙂 . All of these options are IN ADDITION to the regular individual Wilmington 3 release, which comes in ebook, POD paperback and audio.
JDavis says
Mod R, is there any chance that Kate in Wilmington 3 could be voiced by the incredibly amazing Nora Sofyan? She is how I hear Kate now in my head. It would be wonderful to have her working with Michael Glenn. What chemistry? Please, pretty please?!?
Moderator R says
It’s a bit early to discuss audio narrators and their availability 🙂, and there will probably be an interest to continue with Hillary Huber for consistency reasons, as well as voice age (Nora is doing splendidly as 20-something Kate, Wilmington Years Kate is more mature).
But I am certainly taking record of the BDH preferences and how much the adaptations are appreciated!
JDavis says
Thank you! She’s just so awesome, would love to see her in Wilmington 3 with Michael Glenn. One BDH vote for Nora! Please convey to her and to Michael how much they are beloved of the Horde!
Starling says
Please, please, please do not change from Hilary to Nora. I enjoy both narrators, but it would be like firing Renée Raudman out of the original series after book 8 and the new narrator giving Kate an English accent instead of an anywhere American one — just unnecessarily jarring. Please keep Hilary for Wilmington 3!
Jackie Ward says
I would buy the two indicated ‘cause I like the printed version as well as ebook, if they come out in audio I’ll be getting that too.
Lisa says
For me, option 6: would not buy the books a second time in a bundle, but would happily buy the additional short stories.
Laura Rogers says
With respect to the survey regarding the Wilmington books, I could only pick one answer (I chose the collector’s edition because of course I’ll buy it). I will also buy the ebook version because I do most of my reading these days on my eReader. I will also but two copies of the trade paperback, one for each son. The collector’s edition is for my bookcase. Hope that helps!
Bill G says
I love that “Maggie” is proceeding in such a wonderful size.
To the person who was terribly upset last time because Sanctuary was just like “what I read on the blog” — Pfui!
For the poll, I’ll get the combo ebook and collector’s edition, or ebook and hardbound if no collector’s version.
Enjoy your break.
Amy A says
The poll should allow multiple selections! I’ll buy the ebook and the softcover, and possibly the collector’s edition.
Laura says
Followup to the poll: I would be interested in most of those options (probably not the collector edition), but I’d love some form of paper book! Might even get both ebook and paper book.
Other Barbara says
I would only buy a physical book if there was no other way to read additional short stories that will be in the book. Sigh. I would buy an ebook if it has same stories as physical paperback, since I can read enlarged text on my laptop but would struggle with actual paperback book sized font.
Were there any new secrets shared by house Andrews at the Dragon con? I love dragons, unicorns, the Fay in all sizes. And Bucky. So we get Maggie, Wilmington magic clams & mushrooms, then Bucky and his humans?
Ona Jo-Ellan Bass says
I love ebooks because I have cats. While I love the look and feel of hardcover books, and even softcover books, kitties are absolute death on books. (Or at least mine are.) Ebooks are: easy to carry around, backlit for night reading, and have adjustable print for those of us whose eyesight isn’t quite what it used to be. With that said, you write it, I’ll read it. 🙂
Liz says
Mammogram coming up next week.
Would be happy to get Wilmington stories with extra short stories in ebook.
Kathryn says
Re: Wilmington collection-
I would buy the ebook so I can impulse read it anywhere/any when AND buy a shiny collector’s edition. Duh
Courtenay says
“Hehe. Hehe. He. <– evil laugh."
Why am I suddenly scared?
Kris says
Bring it on!
Kris says
Bring it on! I can’t wait!
nedibes says
I voted ebook, because that one matters the most for me–I read and reread those. However, I probably *also* would buy the fancy collector edition. I just can’t read and reread the fancy ones, lest they get grubby–they sit on my shelf and I occasionally pull them down to admire randomly, or to look at the illustrations when doing an electronic re-read. So I wouldn’t miss that as much if there’s only one choice.
Joy says
So glad to hear your test results were clear!
May your week of restfulness be truly refreshing!
Thank you, Ilona, ModR and Gordon, for all you do for the Horde – We truly appreciate you!
And – I am sure you know this – but just a reminder: people who consciously choose to complain re: your gifts to the Horde must be carrying way more pain inside them that they feel the need to lash out at someone as kind, considerate and gracious as you. It says everything about them and is not a reflection on you at all.
Re: Wilmington 3 – so excited that a combined offering may be an option (will buy either the combo or the 3 separate paperback once the final decision is made) – as I am new to the Horde as of May this year and still collecting dead tree copies of everything in print.
Wishing peace, health and safety to the Horde and those they love!
Bea says
I would buy both the ebook and an actual book be it a special print or not
Stacy says
Regarding the Wilmington books, I would buy a physical copy regardless of what type but I would prefer hardcover. I will buy the collectors edition if you decide to go that direction. I am so excited!
Daphne says
Enjoy your downtime! You guys have worked hard, battled through Covid and still had real life things to tend to. Hope your time off is very restful and satisfying. Also, thanks for the PSA on mammograms. They save lives.
Cassandra says
Congratulations on finishing and I hope you both enjoy your well-earned rest and recharge.
The reminder is timely, I forgot to schedule mine this summer. Will get on that tomorrow.
I have the Subterranean and special editions of many of your books and am awaiting the shipment of Innkeeper Chronicles, Vol 2, so you can guess which one I voted for. All editions are good ones, but I do appreciate the art that adds something special to some already excellent work! You find some amazing artists to work with.
Rest up!!
Marti Garner says
I would buy the Audible version in a heartbeat.
Alexandra Gupta says
Wait I totally answered wrong because I’m jet lagged but subtract one vote from the hardcover and add it to the special edition 😂😂
Brooke Frazier says
I picked hardcover because that’s what I would want, BUT it would depend on how life is at the time. I was lucky to even get merch for the store due to money. I would, at the very least, get it in ebook format though
Lynn says
Stories that have a beginning and ending with things happening in the middle are my favorite!
Tina says
Since I would already own the 3 books in ebook format I wouldn’t want to duplicate by buying a physical book (trying to save space). But I would want the extra short stories !! So if you do have extra short stories and you decide to make them available in hard copy, pls share them also in e-book / on-line format as well !
Keith says
I would probably get the ebook of the bundle, but it depends on price, if the shorts are new, and if it comes out simultaneously with the 3rd book. If I have already purchased the 3rd book, I would most likely pass on it.
a terrestrial being says
I might buy the ebook and the paperback versions, not sure about the paperback version, I have to check if I already own the part 1 and 2 single versions as a have only limited space
Goal is to get as much extras, snippets,… as possible digitally as nowadays digital is my main media (I work a lot not being at home including overnights)
Enjoy your week and rest as much as possible!
Gaylin says
I live in a small apartment and too much stuff causes anxiety. I love having an ebook with over 1,400 books in it and causes no clutter! I wish I could buy paper books, sadly not going to happen.
Momz says
Please keep up with your mammograms, cancer is a sneaky bitc*! In less then a year, I went from all clear to stage 2 invasive ductile carcinoma. I had a bilateral invasive mastectomy, which is breasts, armpit nodes, all fat and then irradiation twice. So please all ladies that see this, do not put off or skip it just because it is inconvenient or painful. Breasts don’t grow back, but I’m a 22 year survivor!
Thank you Ilona for getting it done! I live for the next release of any and all the books you give us. As an original member of the BDH I am emotionally invested in the wellbeing of House Andrews (I am selfish).
Kelly says
TBH I would most likely buy the trade paperback for my shelf in addition to the ebook, as I’ve done for Innkeeper.
Enjoy your rest and stay healthy this time!
Caroline says
I would definitely buy an ebook that had illustrations, if that had been a survey option 😊❤️
Barbara Wright says
re the poll. I have macular degeneration so I buy books to read on a tablet as I can alter the font size. If my site were better I would also buy the paper back because it is a lovely feeling to hold a book
Jeff Wang says
I have the individual ebooks of the first 2 books, and not really room for physical copies, so unfortunately I won’t be buying the bundle. I’d pre-order Wilmington 3 though.
Stephanie says
I wish one could vote for more than one option – I would buy a regular hardcover or a collector edition, whatever gets done. Since I could only vote for one, I went with the collector’s edition, which I would prefer. I’m not keen on another paperback when I already have the previous ones, though. An upgrade would be nice.
Maria says
Glad to hear your mammogram was all clear, and enjoy your week off! I am very excited about Maggie, the longer, the better! Also, fingers crossed that the next project after Wilmington 3 is more Lollipops (yay Arabella!) or Innkeeper! I know I’m probably in the minority for those of us who aren’t fans of the KD world, it would be great to have something to look forward to (after Maggie of course!).
Theresa Kyei-Mensah says
In response to the polls, there’s no option for audible. Unfortunately, some of us only have time for listening to books these days.
Moderator R says
Hi Theresa,
the audio format will be released with the Wilmington 3 individual release, as always. It will be ebook, paperback and audio 🙂, just like there was for Magic Tides and Claims.
The poll refers to the special edition for collectors IN ADDITION to the regular release; the readers who want to have all 3 novellas and extra stories in pretty bindings for display/art/convenient collected ebook.
Martina says
for the poll, I would probably go for both 1 and 4 because I do a lot of ereading, but my favorite books also get shelf space just in case ereaders suddenly become passe.
Susan Conrad says
Let me explain my answer. I would buy the ebook because this way I can have my entire library of books fit into my purse. I no longer buy print books because between my husband and I, we would need a good size library complex to hold all of our books. He still buys the occasional print book, but since I told him I would no longer pack and move those, he may decide to get ebooks.
Henry says
I would buy at least two the collectors edition and the e- book. I may buy the trade book. The trade is the one I would lend out.
Denise D. says
Can’t get enough Wilmington!!!
Olga says
I would actually buy the ebook, the hardcover and the collectors edition. What can I say I’m BDH and a collector of IA books😊
Yoanna says
While I’d love a hardcopy of the book, I would have to wait for it to come through a special order. I don’t think lots of people have heard of Bulgaria 🙂 so we do not get Ilona Andrews books hard copies. Fortunately I have a Kindle and it’s extremely convenient to simply buy the book with a click, wait for a few seconds while it downloads and then dive straight in.
Anh says
So excited that you are considering another collector edition. I hope it will be a signed edition. I will own all limited numbered signed editions that you have published, once my bookseller sends my matched Innkeeper 2.
Just to clarify, the hardcover omnibus choice may be low in the list because all those people may have chosen the collector version. Since we could only choose 1. Should you decide not to do the collector edition, I hope you bump the hardcover up!
Thank you for all you do!! 😊
Patrice says
I likely would buy both the eBook and some version of the print book. Which I rarely do because print bookcase is premium space – but that is how much i love your work ant the artwork that graces it. 🙂
Sharon says
I voted for the ebook because I live with my daughter and have no storage for physical books. That being said, I would totally have bought a collector’s edition otherwise.
Also, I love the blog serials and can hardly wait for the finished books. And congrats on the clear mammogram!
Maura says
As always, thank you for everything you do for us.
Also, as always when you post an entry like this one and have to point out the blindingly obvious, people are weird!
Nicole says
Maybe/hopefully the editors don’t ask you to cut too much from Maggie the Undying. After all, the market seems to accept way longer books again, if you look at other recently published books like Court of Silver Flames or the Empyrean series.
And enjoy your well deserved break. I bet the COVID flue symptoms you had are still lingering. If is anything like the strain I had in August… I still got the cough from it…
Jan Roxby says
Where has Hugh 2 gone ?
Sally says
Sorry but I am far on the visual side of the visual/audio spectrum. Prefer silence to music at home, rarely watch TV (only Disney animated movies really) so the audio books aren’t for me. And what if the audio sounds different from the voices in my head lol?? That said there will probably come a day when I can’t read (too old/blind/something) and knowing there are audio versions as a backup is good.
Kathy La Belle says
I buy the ebooks and audio books. They take up no space in my life and I don’t have to dust them. Radio? TV? Nope. I listen to your audio books over and over.
Lee says
Congratulations on finishing this draft! I hope your week off is restful ad restorative.
This year I got a 3D mammogram, which alleviated the need for an immediate ultrasound (dense breasts) and was more pleasant than the traditional kind. Highly recommend!
And I would purchase the ebook as well as the paperback, but that wasn’t an option in the poll.
The complaint about the serial reminded me of visiting the Grand Canyon, where someone grumbled that it was “just like the pictures, why did we bother coming?” Pathetic. And untrue in your case, since you always add more, change or flesh out some parts, and generally add value to what was already an enormous gift to your readers.
Aaron says
In regards to the poll, I would probably get both the ebook and the trade paperback. I’m not the only one in the house who reads them, so generally it is more economical to buy one printed book than 2 ebooks. On the other hand, the ebook is often available earlier than the paperback. These days, hardcovers are way out of my price range
Lori says
I would buy the Graphic Audio ebook series. I was so excited when your books came out on GA!
Jenny says
Don’t get me wrong, I am going to be the ebook. And the audio book. And would definitely buy the collector’s edition if it comes out. BDH FOREVER!
Faye says
Why can’t I choose more then one option? I always try to get the ebook, audio as well as the paperback at least. 🙁 But maybe I’m just a bit too weird like that. I just would buy every possible format of that book, maybe even in my native language and in english as I read both. Can’t wait for it to come out, but I will do the umpf-thing and be quiet and patient
Brenna says
The convenience of a bundled ebook interests me, because I don’t enjoy expending mental energy (ex. which book was first, again?).
Also, you two deserve ALL the money for giving us such cool alternate realities to live in, for the duration of our precious reading time.
Angela Knight says
https://youtube.com/shorts/G5SGB5YgP2I?si=aK-a8SL70d7vbV-T
I just have to share that because it sounds like the BDH. AuthorElizabeth Wheatley does this character on TikTok called the Book Goblin, and this bit sounds like us. She is funny as hell. Especially the bit about the Viking funeral. Definitely Horde.
NK in AZ says
This is great! Thanks!
Momat says
It killed me to choose “not interested”, but I will buy all 3 individually as e books, for both budget and ease of handling. I’ll hope to catch up on the short stories. And thank you for being so generous with with those. Also thank you for the reminder about the mammogram. I’m 84 I’ve have lost too many friends to cancer. And now so many could be discovered in time if only routine checks are done. Really, thank you.
KMD says
oops, chose hardcover edition instead of collector’s edition. But really, I’ll buy whatever physical option you give. I love the special editions from Arcan Society. They are gorgeous while not being super expensive like the ones from Subterranean Press. (though I own all those except Innkeeper 1).
Debra says
For my favorite books, I try to buy trade paperbacks, although in the past I always went for hardback. The weight difference became important to me. Sometimes I’ll have the print and the audio and the eBook. Otherwise I’ve been buying more eBooks since I hit 1,000 books a few years ago and ran out of space plus I started to think of which books I really wanted to keep badly enough to pack them up when I eventually move. It’s been brutal, though I have about a dozen authors I would never part with.
Lisa says
Here’s my most honest answer. I buy all House Andrews books in paperback because my faves go on my shelf. Then when I do a reread, I end up buying the ebook for convenience *because I am lazy and don’t want to dig out my overcrowded bookshelves* but no matter what format you produce, I’ll buy. I do like having any kind of physical for my shelf tho.
Lisa says
Also thank you for the reminder for the mammogram. I got mine in May, all clear!
djr says
I voted collector’s edition because I buy e-books due to lack of space, but will buy hardbacks of things I really love. On the mammogram front, glad yours was clear! I am one of the lucky procrastinators. Put mine off for years, and when I changed doctors, mine insisted on a mammo. They found 3 bits of interest on one side-one benign, one nobody could figure out, and one malignant. After much discussion, I opted for double mastectomy with no reconstruction. The surgeon told me there was a fourth tumor that went undetected that put me at stage 2. I am a very lucky flattie these days with no regrets about the surgery, but since I couldn’t be a good example, I’m now a terrible warning.
Jill says
I would buy the ebook, I just don’t have room for physical books. I also don’t know how to vote in the pole. I just got the mail today and I’ve gone to the website version of the post and I don’t see a way to vote.
Carrie B says
The last time I had a mammo, they told me the new updated guidelines now say to re-check in 5yrs, rather than every year, and being that I was nearing 50, it made no sense to me. Come to think of it *checks commonplace notebook*, that was in 2019, so I need to make a phone call too!
CONGRATS on finishing and submitting a whole new Mega-Book!
You two could have a mega-pint of something, to celebrate. 🙂 (I recommend frosty southern sweet iced tea…and Milo’s Zero Calorie Sweet Tea with the yellow cap is a great substitute if anyone’s watching their sugar intake.)
I hope you have a wonderful and *actually* restful week!
Cheryl M says
Thanks for reminding all about the mammos, mine is scheduled for the first part of February, it’s a birthday thing. And, guys, you even need talk to your doctors about yours. Just because they don’t function doesn’t mean you’re exempt from the cancer.
Silver says
When you do the graphic audio, the Wilmington Years Collection would be me choice. Pleeeeeeease.
Michelle Downing says
I voted for e copy. As I almost always preorder – when I remember to. Bit I do have some printed copies. Mostly paperbacks from HA.
House Andrews puts out a book the Horde will buy it.
Kat says
My survey answer is: I would buy the audiobook as soon as the pre-order was available. I have vision issues which make small (10 pt. font or less) near impossible to read.
Please remember that as we all age the ability to read small print becomes more and more difficult for many. Audiobooks are the easiest way to still enjoy our favorite authors. I know audio may be more expensive than print, but for many people it’s no longer an option.
Joyce says
Would buy audio book. 🙂
JGrace says
For the poll, wish you allowed more than one choice. I would buy the electronic edition but also probably a collector’s edition, too.
Gail Lefkowitz says
The poll only lets you pick one. I would buy 1, 3, and 4, if all options were available. Maybe just 1 and 4, but I have worn out other IA paperbacks, so no promises. Thank you.
Montgomery Bonner says
Young people like the convenience of eBook, but older persons who learned to read from a parent, grandparent on their lap watching as the words were read, learned to read from a real book, I know I did. I like the feel of the hard bound book in my hands, it has form and substance, it’s solid. I can adjust the print size by just putting it closer or further away from my eyes. It can sit, and remind me, “Hey, I’m here, lets share”. An eBook has no personal connections to really anything. Spending hours on a reader, or PC is bad for your eyes, which will really be bad when you are a mature person like I. Even a paperback is better than an eBook IMHO.
Patricia says
At 62, I consider myself, eh, maybe not “older” but definitely not “young people”.
I love eBooks and my Pocketbook Inkpad 3
Anna says
I’m 61 so I definitely don’t qualify as “young people”. Getting the book closer or farther does not change the font size in any significant way. I read almost exclusively e-books because there’s no way I could carry around my couple thousands books to read this or that as the mood takes me, but my eyes get more tired from doing embroidery than from reading on a screen.
Different strokes for different folk, so don’t be so categorical
Christine says
You make me feel so much better about my 116k word manuscript…
Carrie says
I voted for the collector’s edition, but hardcover would also be awesome. I’m waiting for the day that the entire KD series is available in some amazing collector’s edition (my wallet is already screaming for mercy, but it’ll be so worth it.) Like someone else said, I collect physical books of my favorites as sort of trophies, where I can get a little serotonin boost every time I see them. Also, petting them. Petting them is niiiice.
Anyway, I HIGHLY recommend the GA Innkeeper books! They do an incredible job bringing the story to life, and I just love the portrayals of Arland (who will forever remind me of a blood elf in World of Warcraft, but I digress) and the adorably terrifying Helen.
Ericka says
Here’s my problem with the poll: I buy the ebook. And then I buy a paperback. And then, if available, I get the collectors’ edition. And then I buy the graphic adaption. And then I whine for merch.
If you asked what I buy FIRST, i’d say the ebook.
also, YAY THANK YOU for Wilmington III. And congratulations on Maggie!
Gsg says
New serial?! ::Happy butt dance:: I have had an awful day and this post was just a ray of sunshine.
The first serial got me through some dark times sitting in an ICU waiting room and concluded the day we knew my loved one was coming home for good
Patricia says
I voted “would buy e-book”
Real answer is in between “would buy” and “not interested”
If both the separate Wilmington 3 and the bundle with bonus stories were released at the same time AND the price difference wouldn’t be huge, I’d probably treat myself to the collection.
If separate Wilmington 3 is released well before the collection, I’d buy that and I would most likely not but the collection just for convenience.
Elizabeth H. says
So glad your results came back fine. I had my mammogram done in July and everything is good too!
Have a wonderful rest!
Susan says
To be honest, I buy a hardcover if at all available, and an e-book. That way I have both when I need either.
If a hardcover is not available, I buy the paperback, and an e-book.

When are you going to get to the next Ryder? So many questions, why did Derek leave? how did he get the magic, the silver pelt and size? What did he see when he ate the heart? When do we get a baby girl? The time line is a little confusing to me between Ryder and Willminton, could you elaborate?
You guys are the best story tellers! I so enjoy your books and read them over and over. Thank you.

Hi Debra,
There have been updates to the proposed schedule for releases during the Sanctuary events: https://ilona-andrews.com/blog/sanctuary-release-party-and-transcript/
We will see Wilmington 3 and possibly Iron and Magic 2 before the release of Ryder 2, in order to fill some background info needed.
As to the timeline, the Wilmington Years happen approximately 2 years before the Aurelia/Julie rides into Atlanta 🙂

Congrats on finishing Maggie!🥳 Hope you have a good break

I put Trade Paper because it depends on cost of hardcover, I prefer hardcover but when the cost starts drifting over 30 bucks, it hampers me from that purchase. heck I’m looking for a used copy of the hardback for Innkeepers if I can find one at such a price.
Beth says
PS also just assuming the grand illustrated edition would be out of my budget, but I’ve been known to haunt used book stores for the treasures.
Doreen Armit says
Really hard decision but I love to hold a book and although ebooks are convenient I tend to collect paper books of favourite authors so there is no chance of loss. Don’t laugh, I have had ebooks disappear when transferring to new device.
Naenae says
I hope Tor says Maggie isn’t Thiccc enough and wants you to add more. Actually there is a none zero chance someone over there is part of the BDH.
Patty Haynes says
You two are great authors. I love your books. I am really glad that you don’t spend a lot of time going into intimate details about sex. Thankyou so much!
Anna says
Loved your masterful summary for Maggie “it has a beginning and an end and stuff happens in the middle”, lmao. It reminded of my nephew who had to read a book for school, and, when he was asked about it, said “there’s this guy, and things happen to him”…
I discovered serials thanks to you, I think they’re wonderful even if frustrating (I sooo looooove to w**t for the next instalment). And I’ll buy the e-book (I live in France and it can be difficult to get the paper books, even if I could find a little place on a shelf) because it’s so convenient to have it all in one place ! But then I tend to read and re-read your books
Get a good rest, meanwhile we’ll strive to be chalant
Paul says
My personal preference is for print books because audio fiction books are not personally enjoyable. Strangely, I enjoy non-fiction audio books. Perhaps due to expecting only one voice, whereas fiction should have multiple voices for the different characters (and Narrator) but audio books almost never have different speakers.
Jennifer says
I’m super excited for book 3, but kind of wish I’d waited to see if this came out in a single audible collection as the first 2 books did. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE it and listen to it regularly, but if it comes out with all 3, I’m going to have to rebuy it. 😉
Barbara says
please do huge and his mate. I love them
Helene says
Hi All,
I voted for the bundled ebook
as to Graphic Audio, I really love their presentations. You really get lost in the story. On caveat though, their app is not the greatest. I usually buy the GA presentation on Audible because Audible’s app is very much the better choice.
Also, if you’re a member, your credit buys a GA audiobook for a much lower price.
Shop around…
As to Serials in the blog. This is a gift and should not be taken any other way. The story itself won’t change with the edits but there may be some wonderful details either added or lost in edits. It’s fun to be part of the book pre-edits and then see what the edits accomplished.
Thank you HA The BDH loves you both.
Claudia says
I came to the blog, but I’m not sure if my vote registered. I’d get the ebook for convenience.
Congrats on your mammogram results! And for turning in your opus!
By the way, another reason I love to buy directly from Graphic Audio is that I can get the MP3 files for only $2 more so I can listen to the audiobooks in my car off a USB key without using my phone, which I find a lot more convenient 🙂
Have a great break!
Claire says
Big congratulations on sending in the draft! I hope you have a lovely rest week.
Laura says
Buying the collectors edition would depend on the cover. The iron and magic was so pretty. The earlier kate books covers are not as nice so I just got the paper backs
Scarlett Rebstock says
I gave the ferret bag to a ferret loving
niece. I kept the book hoard for myself. I buy ebooks. However I will buy the special hardback. If you have any book hoard bags left would love to buy for a sister. I turned her on to your books.

The poll was already filled in as “am not interested” by the time I scrolled down to it. I don’t think I clicked anything as I scrolled, but I am on my phone, so maybe?
If there is new material, I’d absolutely buy the books again in an omnibus.
If it’s just more story, then I’d get the ebook.
But if there’s anything visual added, art or maps, I’d buy a physical copy in whatever format is available. I prefer hardcovers but trade works too.
Patty says
Definitely get your “girls” checked regularly! My breast cancer was spotted during a routine mammogram and was caught early. Five years cancer free and counting!
Deebmac says
I would buy the first one I could get hold of,, in whatever format.
Lucy says
In college did the obligatory plow through Atlas Shrugged, 550,000+ but I probably only read 450,000 because I skipped some of the rants, I mean monologues, in the middle lol.
NK in AZ says
Haha! Me too. Read it, enjoyed it, completely skipped the John Galt speech!
Alyssa says
I just want a hardcover copy of any kind to add to my shelf. Special edition or regular hardcover, I’d buy either 🙂
Emily says
I would probably buy a compiled Wilmington Years as a dead tree book, but I’m not sure if I would prefer paperback, hardcover, or special edition. Since I generally read electronic versions these days and have dead tree books for the aesthetics, a special edition would be very tempting, but it would need to fit into that month’s budget.
Kiersten says
I have the first two Wilmington books as paperback, and I am already planning on purchasing the third. Money is tight, but your words and worlds are worth it! I can’t wait to see more of Wilmington. Also curious about what their Castle will look/feel like. Will family come visit? I do so enjoy Hugh and Elara, and can’t wait to meet their kids (cow carrying notwithstanding). What other treasures/horrors are hiding in the Fae Queen’s fortress? Eeek! So excited!
Thank you for bringing us along with your creative journey!
Bill from nj says
182,000 words? I can just hear Jeaniene Frost ‘182,000 words? I thought y’all were writing a novella’ with that laugh of hers:).
Jeanne Strand says
As much as I love holding a book in my hand and turning the pages (and reading favorites over and over and over), I also recognize a shortage of storage capacity in my home for books. Sad as it is to say, my favorite books have been read so many times that the spines eventually break and pages fall out. It is a sad sack of a world we now live in that the preferred medium for reading is an e reader.
But PLEASE keep the Kate Daniels books coming…and the Inn Keeper Chronicles . those are the 2 series that I reread and enjoy probably every other month. I wish the Edge series had more growth but I can live with those characters making guest appearances in your other series. (Make way Harry Potter – you have been displaced!)
Patricia Kading says
To be honest I usually end up with a ebook for reading everywhere, a paperback because I want it and a hardback just because.
Breann says
Mod R, I saw online that there is a a Innkeeper Graphic Novel Volume 2 that is set for publication January 28, 2025. Is that legit? Thanks! 🤗
Moderator R says
Volume 2 of the Clean Sweep Tapas adaptation is coming out in print, yes 🙂. To clarify, it is the Part 2 of the first novel, not a continuation, if you’ve already read all the Tapas episodes.
Release depends on where in the world you are, however. I can only get it delivered in March in the U.K. 😭
Breann says
Thank you! I’m in the US, so maybe one of your kind employers would be so nice as to mail you a copy in January so you don’t have to wait a couple of extra months! 😉
Marianne says
it’s depend. I would love an hardcover but I’m in Europe. If the package is sent from the US, I will probably buy the ebook, because the shipping costs.
Mechcat says
I’m still happily looking forward to weeklyKate!!!
Glad to hear your good news! Y’all have certainly earned some downtime. Thanks for the many hours of reading bliss!!

After covid and con you both must be exhausted. Sleep late, eat treats and relax. I love how you ask for our opinions on things, which is so different than most other authors I read. That’s where the love comes from. I also wish to push mammograms. I found my small lump breast cancer by accident when I was 32. At 29 year mammogram a new small different type of breast cancer was found on annual check. The smaller you find it makes a difference. Bring a friend if you are nervous. It goes quick🥰. So excited for a long book with Maggie so it doesn’t go by so quickly.
Sueoz says
I totally endorse Ilona’s opinion of regular mammograms. Mine picked up my breast cancer nice and early; lumpectomy and radiation followed, now 5 years clear.
trailing wife says
Congratulations on turning in Maggie! I’m excited to see what you’ve done with this departure from your previous series… though honestly this is exactly in line with all your stories. They all started in answer to the question “I wonder what would happen if…”
And it’s perfectly in line with the BDH cry, “Write something so we can but it and then read and enjoy!” We have faith even your grocery list would become worth reading — and you’ve demonstrated it over the years, Ilana, with your How To Write essays. I still remember your demonstration of what could be done with the opening of Little Red Riding Hood, and hope that one day, in the midst all your other projects, you’ll feel the overwhelming impulse to finish it. 😉 Ah well, perhaps it will become a lagniappe for one of your paying projects, like you’ll hopefully have the votes to go ahead with the Wilmington Years bundle.

“trailing wife”. PIMF!!!
Mama died a three weeks ago. It was time — at 98 she’d lived a long and full life, a life that encompassed wartime heroism, two beloved husbands, a career full of scientific achievements and honours, cherished friends, children and grandchildren, and singing beautiful music.
At any rate, after Mama lived with us for the last six months, and nearby for the last decade, it appears it’s going to take a bit to regain my equilibrium. Thank you and the BDH for helping by being here.
Moderator R says
May her memory be a blessing, she sounds like an amazing woman! And may you find that equilibrium. All is fixed 🙂
trailing wife says
Thank you, Mod R. I do like the Jewish way of condolence.

Ah, I’m sorry to hear. Even if you know it’s coming, in that hour, on that day, such a loss is always a shock. I still miss my Mom. I found Bujold’s Sharing Knife series had some helpful perspectives on grief. And, along with HA, ofc, is one my favorite authors. In my experience, grief can hit you in ways you don’t expect. It’s odd that way, and different for everyone. But if you hang in there, time will smooth the sharp edges. (Hugs)
Sunshine 🌞 says
Yay Maggie!! I love how long it is. If the editors cut anything out, can you share it here? I can’t wait!!!
I wish I could say I would buy any of the hard copy, but I am an audio book person. I would also get it in e-reader format.
So in preparation for the next Wilmington book I am listening to the series again. In Magic Tides Kate says that Nick is like a step brother but he still calls her an abomination. As I understand it he thought that about her in the Kate Daniel series because of who her father is; how can he still feel that way after his relationship with Desandra and her kids? One of her children would be considered an ‘abomination’ because of who his father is, but he loves that child and would do anything to protect him. How is Kate’s situation different?
I can’t wait for October now!! Would it be possible to hear something about Derek in book 3, even if it’s just in passing?
Marianne H says
As I am certain many have also commented, I would buy ANYTHING written by Ilona Andrews! I think you could make even the telephone book exciting, humorous, just packed with action, adventure, and touching interactions!! I would buy the hardback (with illustrations and what not, if possible), and I would buy an electronic form as well, as that is so convenient. I would have to buy some physical copy, and would prefer to have a hardback as I feel it would hold up better than a paperback. The paperback books that are my favorites, and that I read and reread many times, begin to show signs of a lot of use, and make me put them away on the bookcases I have reserved for books that are not meant to be handled all the time anymore. These books are precious, and I do not want to cause them irreparable damage. Although it is wonderfully convenient and allows me to put some beloved books on the “protected” bookcases, yet still be able to read them on Kindle, I must confess to a preference for the feel of an actual book in my hands instead of a tablet. There are times and places where I am very thankful for being able to access so many books, on one thin tablet. But I always end up buying a physical copy of books that I love, in addition to the electronic format. There is just nothing that can replace the comfort of holding a good book, and turning the pages fast, trying to keep up with the action occurring in the story!! With my favorite books, of course this includes all books by Ilona Andrew’s🙂, I usually end up buying it in electronic, hardback (if available), and paperback format. I have found appropriate times and circumstances for all three forms.
Please keep your wonderful books coming, in whatever format. I would even buy one of your books in paperback (Yikes, the horror of it!), if that was the only way I could get it!
🙂
I hope you are able to take at least one week to decompress, and that you are refreshed and invigorated by it!! May your creative genius and talent never diminish!!

I’ve always loved print books, butI’m turning more to ebooks (and audio) as I have mild double vision. Ebooks are a wonder – large type and dark backgrounds help enormously.
I am delighted that you’re starting a new serial and as I enjoy reading the stories time and again, that wouldn’t stop me from buying the ebook afterwards. Or any GA production. Looking forward to it!
Kathryn says
I really, really liked the combo audio of 1 and 2 — maybe a Graphic Audio combo of all 3??

Thank you for promoting screening. My aunt and cousin(aunt’s daughter) have both had breast cancer and now my mom has ovarian cancer. No known at risk genes. My gynecologist sends me for so much screening. Mammograms, breast mri, pelvic ultrasounds, now she wants to add pelvic mri (you reminded me to schedule – just back from work trip myself, though not as much fun as Dragoncon).
Kelly B says
I think you missed a poll option….
I will buy the ebook because I must dive in immediately! but I will also buy a collector’s edition with cover art and all that you put together because it brings me joy and I’ve been in the BDH since Kate’s first book. 😉
Gloria says
Thank you for the mammo reminder. I have been very naughty regarding this duty to myself. Have a great rest. I love ebooks and regular audiobooks. I like it when the book is just read. I also love it when a narrator and character come together in a special way. I have heard some awful narrators as well and switched to ebook to get through it. My mind always creates a sort of video of the words and I feel as if I already saw the book to movie without Hollywood ruining the series for me. Also I need to control the clutter baabee!. See you guys when you come back.
Audrey says
I would definitely love a collector’s edition of the Wilmington Years!! I was so sad I missed the special sale of Blood Heir and Iron and Magic. I had everything on ebooks but i recently bought everything Kate Daniels related to reward my 4th reread of the series! I love it! Thank you for that wonderful universe! Really wish i’ll get to meet you at some point! 🙂
Cassandra says
I’ll just say, in case this gets read – while I would generally love all the collector ideas, I can’t read the small print in trade books these days. I really prefer audio if the readers are good. A lot of my job requires me to consider accessibility. Might I please request that those of us with vision issues don’t get forgotten. Thanks!
Moderator R says
There will be an audio format, as always 🙂.
The special editions are IN ADDITION to, for everyone who wants a pretty collection for their bookshelves.
Rachel says
while I voted for an additional hardback I would also take paperback or special edition. really anything house andrews chooses to release 🙂
Kevin says
I would buy a printed book in hardcover, however if that printed book happened to be a collector edition with illustrations and cover treatment, I would not be disappointed.
Linda P Duncan says
I would buy the e-book for convenance and the hardback because I still love books.
Lizzy says
I would buy it in audio, and I would be sad if that version didn’t make it to audio, because I would miss out on the extra stories.
Ariana says
Am currently in Manhattan for my annual ultrasound, mammogram, breast surgeon appointment extravaganza (it sounds more festive than “day long slog into the city to sit around in cold waiting rooms and struggle through rush hour at least once and maybe twice if they’re running late”). But it’s been 13 years with no sign of recurrence- worth it!
Ariana says
Am going to add a PSA to also be sure to get an actual physical exam – my cancer wasn’t visible on the mammogram, my OB/GYN felt the lump and sent me for testing. Which is why they also do the ultrasound for me.
Deirdre says
I love paperbacks & hardcover books, especially the ones with the extras (illustrations & beautifully done covers). My personal hoard is over the 1000 mark!
As I’ve gotten older (mid 60s), I’ve been buying more ebooks, mostly because of the convenience of downloading a book to my phone or tablet (easier to carry & less weight in my shoulder bag when travelling).
Karla says
As an older book hoarder (at 52, I’ve got A LOT of books!), I’ve gone into ebooks, as the physical are difficult to carry and even worse when moving house.. also, it’s much easier to eat and read with an ebook. T
Plus this way I can take them everywhere I go, and as long as armageddon holds off, and technology doesn’t fail, I’m good to go, hehe..
Had my mammogram a couple of months ago, (one of my besties is a breast cancer survivor…)
I will look forward to the next serial book blog, AND being able to read it all over again in the new book, if that’s the case..
Enjoy your well earned break!
David says
Just thought I’d expand on my lack of interest in the 3 story volume… I’m not interested in the large volume (I already own 1 and 2 and will definitely buy 3) unless it was “complete”, meaning there weren’t any further Wilmington Years to come, in which case I absolutely would buy it.
Ashley says
*grabby hands at a hard cover special edition*
Sakura says
I only buy ebooks and I like the original, separate editions because the audio syncs. I buy Kindle with whispersync Audible. I mostly wait until the book & audio are released, rather than read the serial on the blog. I’m not generally interested in a Collectors Edition/Special Edition, etc, but I have purchased a few HA Bonus Editions that had extra stories and audio. I answered Not Interested, but if the bundle had enough new content & audio, I would buy it! Thanks for the awesome stories!
Joanna says
Also, I am still waiting for iron and Magic, book 2 and Maud’s and Arlan next story. You teased us with her brother showing up at the end of the book…… still hanging on waiting for more.
Ellen says
I would buy a printed version of the collection. I just don’t read ebooks. I have a ton of them, but if I like the author I buy the book in paper.
Lacey Pfeffer says
Okay the BDH will want alllll the excerpts from Maggie. Maybe a full version could be offered on e readers? It can’t cost anything extra to produce if it’s all digital, can it? I have never thought about that before actually. Hmmmm…. If you guys write it, we will read it- all of it.
Jeannie says
My paternal grandmother died 2 months before my 4th birthday from metasticized cancer that had started in her breast. My maternal grandmother was diagnosed when I was 8 with breast cancer. She had had the lump in her breast for 15 years before going to the Doctor. She died from complications of that cancer & emphysema when I was 18. I am now in my 50’s, I would have liked to have had any real relationship with either of my grandmother’s, it was not to be.
The screenings feel inconvenient at times, but I do not miss them.
Nicole says
I would prefer a full novel of Wilmington 3 in an audiobook format.
Moderator R says
This is in addition to all the usual formats (audio, ebook and print) during the regular release 🙂
