But while tryin to find the Wilmington Years books – because those are self-published – I realized that Small Magics and the Wilmington series are not on our store.
I do not know why.
They are uploaded now and you can grab Small Magics for free, so if it’s been missing from your collection, or if you would like to test drive Kate Daniels series, now is your chance.
If you are a new reader, Small Magics is an anthology of short stories and bonus content. The story you want is The Questionable Client. It might be best to skip the bonus content for now as a lot of it won’t make sense. Also, Kate Daniels will turn 20 years old next year. Some of the themes and wording will seem outdated by modern standards.
If this is your first time downloading from our store, you are going to buy the book as normal, and you will get two emails, one from the store and the other from Book Funnel. If you have a gmail address, the Bookfunnel email will bein your Spam folder.

I picked up the whole Kate Daniel’s series on Graphic Audio. It is my go to for audiobook listening. “Kate says hi” is just as funny the third time as it was the first. I just wish Kate could slap some man into Saiman!

Wow — 20 years ago! I recall where I was when I read Magic Bites (8 states away and 3 jobs ago) and thinking that was kinda cute, I’ll buy the second book… Then I moved to Atlanta — loved finding locations from the books (I used to live near Cutting Edge’s office in Decatur) — and before long I got swept up and assimilated into the rampaging BDH. But 20 years… ?? Well, I am mumbledy-mumbledy years old now, so it must be true!
Replying to myself… When House Andrews started getting the hardcover treatment, your August release dates fit perfectly with my mom’s August birthday. She loved your books too, so for 2 years in a row I went to your Atlanta bookstore signing and got her your newest book signed for her birthday. She passed 10 years this August and I now have her 2 signed hardcovers. Mom did not get to see the conclusion of the series, but I am so glad we got to enjoy your books together. She would have loved Hidden Legacy and Maggie — all your kick-ass heroines.

One more thing, said with the utmost gentleness. I’m a writer and I know this. Wrestling with a book that isn’t cooperating is HARD. I can’t imagine anything more guaranteed to give me a massive case of writer’s block than having to post word count. Granted, House Andrews write with blazing speed, little though it seems that way to the Horde. (Of which I am a proud member.) Ilona and Gordon may not have my issues, as I have gotten writer’s block with every single one of 60 plus novels. Blocks are part of my process. But I would gently suggest not asking for the count if they don’t volunteer it. Stressing creatives out is not the way to get a book out of them.
House Andrews have been very transparent with the wordcount for Maggie 2 and have given several updates 🙂 It’s time to write that is hard to come by atm no, and thankfully not writers’ block.

I frikkin’ love that scene! After being told not to challenge them, she kicks in the door, threatens them, kills the big mouths, and continues to kick ass until Curran is okay. One of the best (of many) scenes!

I can’t believe it’s been 20 years!!!! I found KD after the Romantic Times review of the 3rd book. It convinced me to get #1 and then I had to run and get 2 and 3 as soon as I finished. If I remember correctly there was only one copy of 2 at the Barnes and Noble and I was so relieved to have grabbed it! IA has been an autobuy ever since.
I love Kate’s callback in Magic Tides to any violence on Conlan’s part being a deliberate act and not attributed to a loss of control. Conlan IS very much like his father…and his mother. lol
I forgot. I agree with others’ that Kate is timeless. The dystopian aspect makes any technology or wording retro, as opposed to outdated. It’s technology that cannot exist anymore, regardless. I never feel like it’s outdated.
20 years. Wow. I was lucky to come across Magic Bites right as it was released and knew right away it was special. I’ve spent many, many hours of reading (and now listening) to the series. It’s helped me get through stressful times. I would call it timeless.
That last quote that Kate says at the council meeting is my absolute favorite! And of course, when it gets thrown back in her face later and the plot thickens, it gets even better.
A questionable client, when it was published in another anthology was my first introduction to ilona andrews. Years passed before I found it again and sat down with the series. I’ve been a proud bdh member ever since.

Has it really been 20 years. Doesn’t seem possible. I remember the book catch(not my attention and I loved it and shared it with my Mom and sisters and got another copy to send to a friend working overseas. Wow. 20 years.

For a series that began 20 years ago, I think it has held up remarkably well. I re-read it at least once a year, and Magic Tides/Claims are my goto when I am stressed

Just recently re-re-re-read the KD books in time order, incl Wilmington and Blood Heir. Please, please when will we get Blood Heir 2, Iron Covenant 2 (which was written’ish 6 years ago but “too dark” for Covid) and Wilmington 3. I finished Blood Heir last night and was traumatized by lack of next steps 😂 This BDH member has no w*%t left in her, lol but a lot of chalant. I’m very very glad for the next Maggie book but KD has a special place in my heart.
When oh when can we get the next story in Kate Daniels’ world? Dying to read more!
